Postpartum Psychosis Part 2

Sep 06, 2017, 02:13 PM

It's a mental illness that can be both frightening and shocking for new mums and their families.

I'm talking about Postpartum Psychosis - a severe condition which begins suddenly following childbirth. Symptoms include hallucinations and delusions, often with mania, depression or confusion.

It affects 1 or 2 in every 1000 mothers and last year became a major story line on the soap Eastenders.

Little is know about the causes of Postpartum Pyschosis but the University of Worcester is is currently carrying out a major study into it. Lisa Jones is the Principal Investigator for the Mood Disorders Research Group at the University of Worcester .
