International Scribe Peter Martel Speaks about his new Book on South Sudan

A new book on the history and memoirs of #SouthSudan from before Independence to present day is expected to hit the bookstores sometime soon.

The Book titled; “First Raise a flag; How South Sudan won the longest war but lost the peace,” reflects on the meaning of Nationalism, the Power of hope and the endurance of the human spirit.

The author, British journalist Peter Martel has spent ten years gathering personal accounts from South Sudanese and people who witnessed key moments including the Anyanya one struggle, the referendum, and independence from Sudan leading up to the current situation.

Martel has reported from South Sudan for more than a decade including as a BBC correspondent in Juba where he reported from for three years and later led the AFP East Africa news desk as Editor.

Speaking to Miraya Breakfast show from his base in Nairobi, Martel explained what inspired him to write the book.
