Ministry of Gender Child and social welfare to formulate policy to protect children without parental care

Episode 30,   Dec 11, 2017, 06:12 AM

The National Ministry of Gender Child and social welfare plans to formulate a policy on children without appropriate parental care to address issues of children living and walking on the streets.

The Undersecretary in the ministry Esther Ikere says the need for a policy stems from a rising number of children walking and living on the streets across the country.

According to Ikere, an assessment carried out by the ministry found that some of children living in the streets, have parents, many others are orphans, and another category comprises children from poor families.

Ikere says a policy to provide protection for these children will be launched early next year.
