Martin Reader played elite sport at the highest level on the biggest stage. Martin is a retired Canadian male beach volleyball player. He competed for Canada at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. He relised his childhood dream of representing his country and spent seven years on Canada’s beach volleyball team. With clear vision and driven by a passion for the sport, Martin now shows us how to be Olympic. His compelling view of leadership, strategy and performance, brings the ability to be Olympic to our own daily world. Here's what we cover with Martin in this show. When someone asks Martin what he does, how does he like to reply? How does Martin define success personally?  How far back can Martin trace his dream to be an Olympian and represent Canada? Martin released his dream, then almost immediately retired, what was his thinking at that moment? Getting to the Olympics seemed to be the dream and not to win at the Olympics, did Martin think he could win? Coping with pressure - earn the right! In London Martin “gave himself permission to play freely"… we don’t do that in life, whats that mean? Martin’s morning rituals and routines. In the heat of battle, in the Olympic moment, bringing yourself to the moment on the court? The three I’s of performance. What’s the secret to transitioning from practice to game day delivery? To get to the Olympics Martin employed a strategy to win the first 3 points, why that strategy? How can we immediately become Olympic?  Martin’s parents gave him exposure to different sports as a kid, did it contributed to his success in life? Installing a sense of grit and determination into our kids. Martin wrote in a journal as a  kid he wanted to go to the Olympics, does he journal today? How does Martin personally deal with disappointment in his career? How Martin deals with the resistance in his mind that wants to slack off? Martin quoted Bobby Maximus “the mind is primary” how do we incorporate the mental into group sessions? We discuss a moment in competition where Martin finally understood just who he was. What's Martin’s goal in discomfort this month? The song that best describes Martin as a man?     LINKS Martin Reader Instagram https://www.instagram.com/martinjreader/?hl=en   Off Ball Athlete https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/offball-athlete/id1303795672?mt=2   Strive Life Athletics https://strivelife.ca   The Mojo Radio Theme song by Crimson Royale https://www.crimsonroyaleband.com   The Mojo Radio Show http://www.themojoradioshow.com   The Mojo Radio Show Answering Machine 08 7200 6656 08 7200 MOJO   The Mojo Radio Show copyright Gary Bertwistle & Darren Robertson   Products or companies we discuss are not paid endorsements. What a Ride!”
