The small cemetery with a big history
Work to revamp a small cemetery in the middle of Northampton is set to start today.
The Cemetery of the Sisters of Notre Dame is all that's left of the Notre Dame Convent School which once stood in Abington Street.
The convent school was closed in the mid-1970s and by 1979 it, along with orchards, a chapel and tennis courts, had been demolished.
All that remains now is the cemetery in Notre Dame Mews.
This first stage, costing £8,000, will see graves and the crosses on them restored. It will take three months.
