Khe Sanh, South Vietnam: U.S. Marines man the fortified perimeter of Khe Sanh Jan.22nd awaiting the anticipated Communist offensive in the northern area of South Vietnam. Some 5,000 Marines are manning the Khe Sanh redoubt and Allied reinforcements have been moved into the area in preparation for what may develop into a pivotal battle of the war. Military observers believe some 30,000 to 40,000 North Vietnamese infantrymen are poised in the area below the Demilitarized Zone.
