(Photo: The U.S. Navy destroyers USS Epperson (DD-719), inboard, and USS Robert A. Owens (DD-827) at Bath Iron Works, Maine (USA), on 19 January 1948.

Epperson was launched on 22 December 1945 at the Federal Shipbuilding and Dry Dock of Kearny, New Jersey (USA), and was placed in mothballs and towed to Bath Iron Works in December 1946. She was redesignated DDE-719 on 28 January 1948 and completed by Bath Iron Works and commissioned on 19 March 1949.

Robert A. Owens was laid down on 29 October 1945 at Bath Iron Works and launched on 15 July 1946. Work was suspended until 1948. She was reclassified DDK-827 on 28 January 1948 and commissioned on 5 November 1949.
