In its report Equipment Crisis for Disabled Children, launched at the House of Commons last week, we highlight why children are being deprived specialist equipment to keep them safe. 16-month-old Asher Watkin needs to have a specialist seat that keeps him properly supported when he is feeding to stop him choking on his milk yet his local council provided something that was totally unsuitable for his needs. Here, his mum Tara talks to BBC Radio Essex about the struggles they have faced trying to get Asher what he needs. Newlife’s Policy Development Manager, Clare Dangerfield, also speaks about the legal obligation that local authorities have to provide essential disability equipment to children like Asher.
