Gordon Chang, Daily Beast, in re: Journal of ___ Education: universities are planning to discontinue the Confucius Institutes. These are units on American college campuses, ostensibly to teach Chinese language and “a little Chinese culture.” In fact, the Chinese govt negotiates agreements requiring confidentiality – secret American university-international activity? Turns out that Chinese intelligence agencies are operating out of them. There are about 100 left, and fewer to come. US Defense Department says: no DoD funding if it has a Confucius Institute. China is imposing rules on Hong Kong children obliging them to sing Communist songs (“March of the Volunteers”) plus “patriotic education.” Today the Chinese ambassador to Canada penned an op-ed saying that the indictment of Ms Meng was due to “Western egotism and white supremacy.” Charles Burton has begun to write about this. It'll go badly for Beijing. Note that Canadians of Chinese descent are not colonized; they went there most volitionally.
