In the early 1900’s St. Petersburg Florida was known as the “City of Green Benches”. At their height some 2,500 benches lined the downtown streets and parks, inviting residents and tourists alike to slow their pace, enjoy the weather, and make acquaintances of strangers. The green benches became a symbol of the city's hospitality.
