Lee Ohanian, Hoover, in re: Water is in abundance, esp on the East Coast. However, California, in the breadbasket of the Earth, is facing the possibility of a permanent drought and the state’s infrastructure being unable to deal with it. We need to store rainwater but have not. Have a series of dam breaches; water shortages century after century. . . . LA: Called benign neglect. The decision not to replace water piping is penny-wise and pound-foolish. Cast iron pipes. Lifespan of fifty years, hadn't been replaced for many extra decades and of course burst. $13 million in repairs. The seventy-five-year old pipe hadn't been scheduled by the department to be replaced. We're asking for trouble. Why are we neglecting maintenance and setting ourselves up for million-dollar replacements. The pols came together to claim that climate change is the cause – Obama, Feinstein, Boxer, Brown came together in the Central Valley; worst drought in Cali in 1,200 years. Farmers were struggling. Everyone thought that with all that brass there’d be a solution, but none was offered. A media opportunity. Now, limits per day per person: in 2020, your household may have 50 gal per person per day, and it goes down from there. The media failed to mention this much.
