Episode 801,   Feb 15, 2019, 11:00 AM

Plans are underway to impose heavy fines on individuals who continue to buy commodities packed in plastic bags.

The Ministry of Environment and Forestry last year announced a ban on the importation of the polythene bags, but the items have slowly found themselves back onto the market.

Speaking exclusively to Radio Miraya the undersecretary in the ministry, Joseph Africano Bartel said penalties will be imposed on sellers and users of the plastic bags.

The Undersecretary is also warning owners of hotels and private property along the River Nile that their structures will be demolished for encroachment onto public land.

He spoke to Sworo Charles Elisha in this interview.
