On February 20th, 2019, the Supreme Court of India, in a written the judgment ordered for the eviction of over ten lakh tribal and other forest-dwelling people across 16 states. This judgment came after the Union Government failed to defend the Forest Rights Act, a law made to protect the rights of these people.
