Summer Break 2019 - Sheffield United

This week’s episode takes us to a city that hasn’t seen Premier League football for over a decade. Sheffield has a storied history of first division footballing successes but its been some time since the city had a representative at the top table of English football.

Back in 2006/07, it was Neil Warnock’s Sheffield United who had their turn at being the highest placed Sheffield side in the league structure. It lasted a year and, to this day, Warnock maintains that it was all Carlos Tevez’s fault.

This time around, the club has a markedly different feel. Chris Wilder has carried the club up two divisions and got them playing a smart, tactically astute football with a minimal wage bill.

Will Wilder succeed where Warnock faltered? Is the Premier League a step too far? Or will the last season set up the Blades to cause a shock?

Joining us today is one of the luminaries of the Sheffield United fan media. James Socik is better known by his twitter name Blades Analytic. Starting out as a self-described “fanalyst” he now works for Peterborough United as a data recruitment analyst.
