Trade matters: why trade deals affect everything and what to do about it

Sep 05, 06:00 AM
This week we’re discussing trade. Trade is a key way in which we relate to other countries and stake out our place in the world, and trade terms can create wide-ranging effects domestically for both trade partners.

Over the last few years, we’ve seen how true this is, with, in particular, our dealings with the US being talked about as having the potential to create monumental regressive effects in this country.

Meanwhile, we and other rich countries have a responsibility to create a radically more just world through our trade with developing nations, rather than exploiting countries we have already taken so much from.
