Episode 6: We Need to Talk About Emery

Sep 23, 12:12 AM
Episode 6 of Saved by the Bellerin sees the pod with a fully fit lineup as Dean, Sammy, Ryan, and Rafael review a turbulent week for the club, starting with a disappointing 2-2 draw against bottom dwelling Watford.

The lads go back to front, examining the continuing leaky defense and ponder how much of the incredible shots against totals are down to poor defensive tactics?  They also weigh whether the system will be changed when Kieran Tierney, Hector Bellerin and Rob Holding return to full fitness or whether Arsenal requires a full tactic rethink even after the lineup returns to fitness?

They then turn their attention to the still unsettled midfield and the curious combinations manager Unai Emery starts there.  Ryan takes an extended pass at the team's attacking line and questions whether the team should continue playing Pierre Aubameyang at left wing or whether he should become the full time striker?  The continued questions of tactics and lineups pull the team around to a hard assessment of the manager.

Has Unai Emery found HIS groove as Arsenal manager, or are the poor road results, now in year two, signals that Emery may be over his head?  The pod then moves to a review of Arsenal's 3-0 Europa League win over Frankfurt, highlighted by 18 year old winger Bukayo Saka's breakout performance.  The youngster scored the second goal of the match and assisted fellow first year player Joe Willock, who scored Arsenal's first.  Has a long-term silver lining emerged from the inconsistency, in the forms of Saka, Willock and Mateo Guendouzi?
