Latest evidence points to sleep-disordered breathing (snoring, mouth breathing, stopping breathing, restless legs, grinding) having a greater impact on children’s health and wellbeing than we initially thought. The consequences can be far-reaching, from behavioural and developmental risks to physical changes including changes to the way the heart functions. Dr David McIntosh has been an advocate and researcher in this area. He is an Ear, Nose and Throat surgeon (ENT) who wants to improve the trajectory of kids lives by treating excessive snoring appropriately.
In this two-part series we will cover some fascinating areas including what normal nighttime breathing is, why sleep is important, what snoring can do to a child, the best way to work out if your child has problem snoring, the best timing for getting it reviewed and treated and the role of sleep in brain development.
