Episode 19 - Life after stroke or brain injury: Living with hemianopia

Oct 29, 2019, 03:43 PM

Rory and Brian describe what it's like to see and live with hemianopia - which affects one side of their vision

If a stroke affects certain parts of the brain then this can affect your sight. Strokes can cause vision problems including visual field loss, double or blurry vision and can also affect visual processing.

Rory and Brian both live with hemianopia, which primarily affects one side of their sight - Rory's from a stroke and Brian's a result of a brain injury from a motorcycle accident.

The two friends share about coming to terms with their sight loss, common mishaps, and highlight the importance of getting out and meeting people with a similar sight condition through RNIB's confidence building courses.

Brian says "Everyone has to learn how to cope with it in their own way"

They believe socialising, music, and laughter are some key ingredients.
