David Cox was a U.S. Marine veteran who was found murdered in Medfield, Massachusetts.

The film A Few Good Men was based partly on a series of events that David Cox was involved in while he served in the Marine Corps. While stationed at Guantanamo Bay, Private First Class William Alvarado wrote letters to a Texas Congressman with the intent to complain about the conditions there. A group of Marines were then involved in a hazing incident in order to
"punish" Alvarado.  Later, Cox was upset part of his life was used for the film. In January 1994, the former Marine went missing and was later found dead.
