We discuss the Iranian presidential elections, which are scheduled to be held on Friday, June 18, 2021. Current Chief Justice of Iran, Ebrahim Raeisi, appears to be the front runner, while Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, is viewed as engineering the outcome of the elections and the future political transition as he suffers from ailing health.
Iranian journalist and scholar, Arash Azizi, joins us for the latest episode of our podcast Commodity Clipp in order to discuss developments in Iran. Azizi is the author of the biography of Iran’s IRGC’s ex-Quds Force Commander, Qassem Soleimani, who was assassinated in Iraq through an American drone strike in January 2020. Azizi’s book is titled, “The Shadow Commander: Soleimani, the US, and Iran's Global Ambitions.” Aside from his scholarly work at New York University, Arash covers developments in the Middle East and North Africa region for various media outlets.
