Manuel has a PhD in History from Kings College London. His dissertation was titled 'Selling the People's Game: Football's transition from Communism to Capitalism in the Soviet Union and its Successor State'. In his own words, this led to him falling into journalism. As well as his role with transfermarkt, Manuel is the owner of @FutbolgradLive and covers the Bundesliga for Forbes.
