Hello, hello everyone, and welcome back to episode three of the Social Marketing Advice Podcast. This is your favorite social media guru, Deborah Brownell, and I am super excited to get into today's podcast. I've got some juicy news, hot trends, and tons of changes happening in the vast, ever-changing world of social media." But first things first, who's heard about Meta's new app, Threads? EVERYONE is talking about it and Just a few days ago, Threads marked a milestone, reaching a whopping 100 million users, outpacing even the mighty ChatGPT as the fastest-growing app ever. Talk about some serious speed! It took just two hours for Threads to hit two million users and a mere seven hours to hit the big 10M. And guess what? It's only getting started. Now Mark Zuckerberg himself tells us that the majority of users joined purely from 'organic demand,' which, if you ask me, is just fancy talk for 'people are loving it!' And guess what? They're not monetizing it until they hit 1 billion users. So they're going big or going home. Did you hear how a Canadian judge just ruled that a thumbs-up emoji carries the same weight as a signature, how wild is that? I also learned that Email still reigns supreme with 4.37 billion users worldwide, even ahead of Facebook and YouTube. So think you need to be exploring other ways to promote your business off of social? Email marketing can be a powerful tool for prospecting, managing current client experiences, and even for keeping up with past clients. PLUS LinkedIn just changed its algorithm to give more visibility to relevant content. So, fellow marketers, it's time we adapted our content to fit this new landscape? I would say so. In other news, Twitter traffic took a hit with the arrival of Meta's Threads. While TikTok just landed the #1 spot in app revenue, earning a cool $1 billion in consumer spending, PLUS ChatGBT experienced a 10% drop in worldwide traffic. So is the novelty wearing off? And I’m sure you’ve noticed all the marketing for the new Barbie movie right? It's EVERYWHERE! With over 100 brand partnerships, experiential marketing activations, and social campaigns, they're really bringing Barbie back to life. They've even partnered with Airbnb to create a Barbie Dreamhouse and Opi Nails to create a Barbie nail color. How fun is that? Now if that isn't creative out of the box marketing, I’m not sure what is! On a final note, let's talk about content repurposing. Yes, you heard it right, 46% of marketers believe repurposing content is a strategic move, especially with tight budgets. It saves BIG BUCKS and is less time-consuming than creating new content. So, take it from the pros, sometimes it's not about reinventing the wheel, but rather polishing the one you already have. I know I’ll be doing this much more for my clients over the next few months! Now let's dive a little deeper into the Threads phenomenon. Threads operates much like Twitter: you can follow other users, interact, post, share, and even private message. It's just exploded onto the scene, with more than 10 million registered users in just 7 hours and over 95 million posts shared. So, Twitter, watch out! In response, Twitter has put some changes into motion. They're planning to limit tweet reads per day. If you're a Twitter Blue user, you can read up to 8000 tweets per day, unverified accounts get up to 800, and newly registered and unverified accounts can read up to 400 tweets per day. While I may personally not agree with that step, It definitely makes you raise your eyebrows! Now Before I wrap up today's podcast, let's not forget about TikTok Live, Reddit's holiday insights, and Instagram expanding collaborations to three accounts. So much is happening in the social media space, and it's my job to keep up with it all! As I end today's episode, let me leave you with a little nugget of wisdom. Hiring a professional who knows the ins and outs of these platforms, who stays updated with their changes, and understands the algorithms can truly make a difference in your business. Remember, your online presence is a powerful tool. So use it wisely, and it can elevate your brand to new heights! Now that's it for this week's episode of the Social Marketing Advice Podcast. Join me next week for more exciting news, tips, and trends. Until then, stay savvy and keep innovating!
