And of course, in a past episode that you can get to listen to my review of this film and see why I like it so much. I know people that went out to see it based off of my review and they also enjoyed it.
00:00:37:19 - 00:01:04:09 Unknown So I'm not crazy. I am not the crazy one here. Okay, If you didn't like it, you're the crazy one. Okay, let's get that straight. Anyway, I'm Suzanne Stein. I'm glad to have you here. And this was a wonderful interview. It's not often I get to direct I'm sorry. Not often that I get to interview the director of a favorite film of mine.
00:01:04:11 - 00:01:37:15 Unknown So I'm pretty stoked about this. So, yeah, we had a wonderful talk. She answered my questions beautifully, wonderfully, truly. And I think she's got a great film. I really hope I'm very hopeful that not only does this work get discovered later on her next film gets discovered, and then one day people are going to look back and go like, who first saw her as the great director that she was going to be?
00:01:37:15 - 00:01:58:22 Unknown To all of us who who watched the movie, the indie movie that started it all. They're going to go to Silas Lindenstein. He knew what was up because he saw it. This film needs to get seen by more people. That's that's what I'm definitely saying for sure. So, yeah, so I should just get into the interview, you know?
00:01:59:02 - 00:02:14:20 Unknown So I want you to sit back, open your hearts and open your ear holes and listen to the seven Questions interview episode with writer director Nicole Rachel
00:02:14:20 - 00:02:17:00
00:02:17:00 - 00:02:44:21 Unknown How are you doing? Good. Yeah. So my name is Silas. I'm with, uh, you're watching a movie with South and Style, And then also, I'm very excited about this film. I hosted another show called Black and a Half, which really likes to focus on movies that feature people, persons of color and historically, disenfranchized folks.
00:02:44:23 - 00:03:16:03 Unknown And Dandelion was. The trailer was wonderful. I love to bring bring that in. So I was like, okay, I got to check this out. And let me first like, I think it's my favorite movie of the year. I will say that I did get to see it last night. And yeah, well, there is. I will. Absolutely. It's, um.
00:03:16:05 - 00:03:43:09 Unknown You had such delicate moments of the little shots you had of the surroundings when you would focus on those, those little bits and then the, your flashbacks while she was playing, there was just so many and it really would really came through to me is as an artist myself, this, this longing of not being where she wants to be in her life.
00:03:43:11 - 00:04:17:24 Unknown I had the my wife came in the room was like, what do you watch? And I stopped it and I had to talk to her like 15 minutes about how this film was affecting me. Like in that moment. And absolutely. The When you wrote the film, did you originally did you have in your head a black actress for the role or was that from auditions?
00:04:18:01 - 00:04:32:05 Unknown Oh, okay.
00:04:32:07 - 00:04:53:24 Unknown Mm hmm.
00:04:54:01 - 00:05:19:18 Unknown I kind of myself, but. Mm hmm.
00:05:19:20 - 00:05:28:16 Unknown Yes. And then.
00:05:28:18 - 00:06:20:16 Unknown Mm hmm.
00:06:20:18 - 00:07:47:11 Unknown Yeah, that one. Oh, yeah. So I. I just like that was. Oh. Hmm.
00:07:47:13 - 00:08:29:01 Unknown Yeah, That's wonderful. I it's. I mean, even just from the casting perspective, bear of as far as being open, I get so many audition notices to go in and where they they seem fully invested on, on casting the look that they want for it. And I applaud you for being open to finding the right soul for the for the role.
00:08:29:03 - 00:09:22:02 Unknown Yeah, I also. Mm hmm. I love that it and the voices in it. Like she. She has a wonderful voice. And this is the first movie I've seen in a long time where I was like, Is there a soundtrack coming out? Because I think I need to get that soundtrack right. That was exclusive. That's. Oh, that's fantastic. I'm down.
00:09:22:08 - 00:10:19:13 Unknown I will be downloading that. That day and that, I think, Oh, that'll be from. And I love the music because I do I do enjoy the music genuinely that, that, that type of music I it's not my go to and I love that it challenged me when I saw the trailer and I was like I was with a black actress and I was like, it's not what I it's not in my mind what I'm going to think when I see a music a music film.
00:10:19:15 - 00:11:05:23 Unknown But then I'm like, Well, at the same time I have Tracy Chapman on my on well, you know, on my iPod. Here was I'm ancient. Oh, was was there any jewel in there? Um, yes, it was. I just. I just listened to Jewel on Marc Maron and WTF talk about how she used to tell people to shut up at audio like when she was opening for people because they were being rude to her.
00:11:06:00 - 00:11:35:21 Unknown Yeah. Oh she she would feel this. She would feel oh that the I won't spoil it but like yeah that, that that would be, would be so fantastic. I hope this goes far. I hope it really I really do hope it goes far. Um. I do. I do. So on my show I always ask everybody seven questions that are the same.
00:11:35:23 - 00:12:00:09 Unknown It's it's my world famous seven questions. And love to hear your answers to these. Number one is, what are you most nerdy about? And nerdy doesn't necessarily mean like it doesn't mean Star Trek or Star Wars, but what is that thing that you really deep dive into that you know a lot more than maybe most people? You're going the rabbit holes.
00:12:00:09 - 00:14:03:01 Unknown Like what? What's that thing that excites you? And I know they could be films, but the screen movies you're that's that's great. Are you a big horror fan in general or is it that franchise. Oh, the amazing Love it. All right. Number two, what's something that you love to eat? Yeah.
00:14:03:03 - 00:14:36:07 Unknown Oh, okay. That is a that's a good I will I will grab that at frozen yogurt. I will grab the frozen yogurt if I'm there and I see pistachio because it's not always there. I do. I do. It's got that mint. Like it's a fake mint, right? It's like I'll take, I'll look for it. I'll look for that.
00:14:36:09 - 00:15:44:04 Unknown Number three, what's something that you love to drink that I love? That comes natural wine. What? Oh, okay. Okay, okay. That sounds hipster. And that would be Oregon for sure. Yeah, I like that. Okay. Okay. Oh, I won't look that up. Okay, Number four, What kind of music do you love? I mean, indie. Yeah. Okay. Well, I suspected so.
00:15:44:07 - 00:16:34:04 Unknown Oh, well, that one of a number five. What do you love to create that to go back to your film real quick. I really did love how much you in it. I loved the writing combined with the the imagery that you had on that. And that I do feel is not usually someone is so heavy on one or the other.
00:16:34:04 - 00:17:03:17 Unknown And it was just that. I think that's why it was so beautiful to me because the the language and the words spoken and then these beautiful images would pop in. And I was like, It's the best of both worlds for me, for the writing and tell. All right. Okay. It's okay. Awesome. Okay. You bring joy in all different ways, visually, visually.
00:17:03:19 - 00:17:22:00 Unknown Number six, What's a game you love to play? Yeah. Okay. Oh, that could be a fun one. Yeah, Like, yeah. Okay.
00:17:22:02 - 00:18:53:00 Unknown Yeah, that's. Oh, I love that. Okay. Yeah. Last question. In 100 years, once someone read your biography, what do you want to be remembered for while you're there? I mean, this is I think it's very clear you're you are you are a solid filmmaker. This is dandelion is a it's a delight. It's so thank you for putting it out there.
00:18:53:02 - 00:20:18:06 Unknown I might have a I. Oh, yeah, absolutely. Did. Did you, um, how long was the story in your head before you're able to get it out of you? Yeah. Like, did it like, um. Like, like it wasn't that I. Is it. Is it like a muse or is like. What Do you know what sparked dandelion for you? Like what it was that made you suddenly go?
00:20:18:06 - 00:21:12:08 Unknown Was it an image or as well, like, I, I think that's a that, that's a shame. I'm like it's, well, I will say I was very impressed because the list that they showed me for Seattle screenings was very when they first announced it was very it was only like a few theaters. And I was like I was like, Oh, it's okay.
00:21:12:10 - 00:22:09:08 Unknown And then I watched it and I was like, I can't believe that. And then I got an updated list and suddenly it's in Weymouth. I think it's like in 12 different theaters here. Like it's like it's but it trip it tripled in the last week of where it was going. Oh, guess. Yeah I, I you're going to have well in the Seattle Seattle film critic society you're going to have an advocate here pushing for this film as we get close to award season.
00:22:09:08 - 00:23:47:09 Unknown I'll tell you that. Yeah that that my my big thing with awards has been it allows it it gives it usually forces some other people to to watch it or you know that they just wouldn't have they would they wouldn't have thought of it unless there's so much we are we are in an age that we're all trying to get eyeballs on content and we're being distracted.
00:23:47:09 - 00:25:06:23 Unknown And I don't see things that I want to see, like I'm so distracted by things that like, yeah, that will have if I did not. Yeah, no, it's crazy. Okay. I know. I got I got to wrap it up now. I was expecting that. But Nicole, I want to thank you so much for spending your time with me and sharing this film and getting it out there for us.
00:25:06:23 - 00:25:32:08 Unknown So I'll be pushing for it. And. And good luck. Okay. Thank you.
00:25:32:08 - 00:25:34:21
