Single Malt - Double Barrel Now we are going to head to the Two Stacks Single Malt, and as I touched on in The Signature Blend, Single Malt is a great benchmark whiskey for comparing whiskeys made in different countries.
Single Malt is made everywhere, and as a result, it's a great way to compare whiskeys that all are made from 100% Malted Barley.
What sets the Single Malt from Two Stacks apart is that there are three components of Single Malt as follows;
50% of what’s in this bottle is triple-distilled Malt. What we do with each distillation is to concentrate the alcohol and also get more interaction between the spirit and the copper pot still that must be used in Malt whiskey production in Ireland. We call this “Triple Malt,” and this 50% is aged in the ex-Oloroso Sherry casks.
We follow that with 40% double-distilled Malt, and we age that in ex-Bourbon casks. With a double distillation, we get the ABV into mid 50% 's which brings different flavors to the table and gives a wonderful spectrum range of flavors.
What shakes this whiskey up is the Peated Malt component, which is at 10%, and this is again aged in ex-Bourbon casks. When people taste this Single Malt, the peated component will come to the fore and will remind many of an experience with Scotch. For those people who love a nice peated Scotch, this is definitely a whiskey that would be of interest to them.
