<v Speaker 1>Wednesday, August thirteenth, twenty twenty five. You are listening to
<v Speaker 1>the Daily Dose Sports podcast and I am your host,
<v Speaker 1>Clint Daily, coming to you from the Oahiah City here
<v Speaker 1>in Denver, Colorado, and we are back for another week
<v Speaker 1>of talking sports with a dose of common sense. Hey,
<v Speaker 1>Happy Wednesday to you. Hope your week is going well.
<v Speaker 1>Hope you had a good weekend. I hope you, your family,
<v Speaker 1>your friends, everyone in your world is staying strong and
<v Speaker 1>healthy right now. And hey, we are getting into a
<v Speaker 1>fun time of season. It is on the horizon. Gonna
<v Speaker 1>have college football here soon, Gonna have the NFL here soon.
<v Speaker 1>But it's not here quite yet, however, And you know me,
<v Speaker 1>this is not my thing, but Maylick Baseball is actually
<v Speaker 1>starting to heat up in a few ways. We have
<v Speaker 1>a number of tight division races and they look like
<v Speaker 1>they may come down to the wire, and I mean,
<v Speaker 1>I can't even believe them, but kind of starting to
<v Speaker 1>watch a little bit at MLB over in the American League.
<v Speaker 1>The American League East is tight. Toronto has a slight
<v Speaker 1>lead on those surging Boston Red Sox, and the Yankees
<v Speaker 1>meanwhile are starting to fade. What is going on there.
<v Speaker 1>I mean, could we really end up with a Major
<v Speaker 1>League Baseball playoffs and the Yankees not get in. I mean,
<v Speaker 1>it's possible, right. The American League West is also getting tight.
<v Speaker 1>We have the Astros with Carlos Korea back on the
<v Speaker 1>field for them. They've got a slight lead over the
<v Speaker 1>Seattle Mariners, who seem like they always are kind of
<v Speaker 1>expected to do something, but they never do. The Rangers
<v Speaker 1>are in the hunt as well. Over there in the
<v Speaker 1>National League. All three divisions are very very tight. And yes,
<v Speaker 1>even that National League West is tight because the Los
<v Speaker 1>Angeles Dodgers haven't been able to shake the San Diego Podres,
<v Speaker 1>I mean, the most expensive team in history. Well, they've
<v Speaker 1>been banged up and the Podres, meanwhile, have been red hot.
<v Speaker 1>Surely that lineup is going to take over eventually, right,
<v Speaker 1>The Dodgers just have too much. Once they get everyone healthy,
<v Speaker 1>they'll just take over, right, it will, right. But we
<v Speaker 1>also saw some Major League Baseball history this past week
<v Speaker 1>when Jen Powell officially became the first female umpire in
<v Speaker 1>Major League Baseball history. That took place on Sunday. You know,
<v Speaker 1>it took more than a century of baseball for a
<v Speaker 1>woman to get that opportunity, and Powell had certainly paid
<v Speaker 1>her dues. She had worked more than twelve hundred games
<v Speaker 1>across a decade of umpiring in the minor leagues. And
<v Speaker 1>then on Sunday, Jen Powell stood behind home plate for
<v Speaker 1>the first pitch in the first game of a doubleheader
<v Speaker 1>between the Atlanta Braves and the Miami Marlins. And it
<v Speaker 1>was a historical moment. There were dozens of family members,
<v Speaker 1>there were friends, supporters who came out to the field
<v Speaker 1>with handwritten signs to cheer on Powell, Powell making her story.
<v Speaker 1>One sign read the time has come for one and
<v Speaker 1>all to play ball. Another sign said so Marlin's second basement.
<v Speaker 1>Otto Lopez stepped up to home plate to face Brave's
<v Speaker 1>pitcher Joey Wentz. Hey the cell phone cameras where flashing
<v Speaker 1>fans took in this amazing moment in baseball history. And
<v Speaker 1>then on the very first pitch, Powell caught a pitch
<v Speaker 1>by Wentz that was nearly a foot inside the plate
<v Speaker 1>as a strike. Well, hey, we all make mistakes, right,
<v Speaker 1>It was just a slip up. But then after the game,
<v Speaker 1>Powell admitted she had a dream the night before about Lopez.
<v Speaker 1>She said it wasn't really what he had said it was,
<v Speaker 1>or just how he had said it in the dream,
<v Speaker 1>and she wasn't sure why, but like she just thinks
<v Speaker 1>it's funny how he always says one thing but does another.
<v Speaker 1>And sometimes when otto doesn't say what he's feeling, he's
<v Speaker 1>actually saying a lot more than if he had And
<v Speaker 1>if he wants to go out with his friends, fine,
<v Speaker 1>just say so, just go have fun and don't worry
<v Speaker 1>about her whatever all that. Man. Anyways, congrats to Major
<v Speaker 1>League Baseball and umpire Jen Powell. This was one amazing
<v Speaker 1>historic accomplishment. I can't wait to see her take one
<v Speaker 1>more major step for women everywhere when she botches a
<v Speaker 1>call in the postseason.
<v Speaker 2>Two, you ugly hate field, man, Hey, hey, I may
<v Speaker 2>be ugly in hate field, but I what was the
<v Speaker 2>third thing you said?
<v Speaker 3>Hey?
<v Speaker 1>Dam does With the college football and NFL seasons coming quickly,
<v Speaker 1>we are going to take a look at some of
<v Speaker 1>the biggest early games on each schedule that could end
<v Speaker 1>up being very impactful this season. Plus, every team in
<v Speaker 1>the NFL right now has some hope. Right everyone is
<v Speaker 1>hoping to get out of the gates quickly and start
<v Speaker 1>racking up those wins well, as our deal o US
<v Speaker 1>Top five will show us sometimes that isn't nearly as
<v Speaker 1>important as you might even think. But first, speaking of
<v Speaker 1>making history, we saw well sort of some history made
<v Speaker 1>in the NFL preseason this past week because Jacksonville Jaguars
<v Speaker 1>kicker Cam Little stole the spotlight from Travis Hunter's NFL
<v Speaker 1>debut by hitting a seventy yard field goal during Saturday
<v Speaker 1>Night's game against the Pittsburgh Dealers. Hey, had it not
<v Speaker 1>happened during the preseason, Little's kick would have broken Justin
<v Speaker 1>Tucker's NFL record by a full four yards. That's amazing.
<v Speaker 1>He had room to spare too. And you know, I
<v Speaker 1>don't know that much about Cam Little, I'll be honest,
<v Speaker 1>I really don't. But if he's anything like Justin Tucker,
<v Speaker 1>I will warn the massage therapists in the greater Jacksonville.
<v Speaker 1>Are you be careful? Is all I'm saying. Be careful.
<v Speaker 1>It wasn't all good news in the NFL, as we
<v Speaker 1>have already seen a few significant injuries in this preseason.
<v Speaker 1>The Indianapolis Colts lost quarterback Anthony Richardson at least for
<v Speaker 1>a little bit, to a dislocated finger just weeks after
<v Speaker 1>signing a massive contract extension, The Los Angeles Chargers lost
<v Speaker 1>tackle Rashawn Slater. He suffered a torn pateller tendon in practice.
<v Speaker 1>Minnesota Vikings receiver ron Dale Moore blew his left knee
<v Speaker 1>and he's gone for the year. Baltimore Ravens rookie cornerback
<v Speaker 1>balal Cohne was carted off the field on Thursday and night,
<v Speaker 1>also a victim of a knee injury. The Kansas City
<v Speaker 1>Chiefs lost safety Dion Bush to a torn achilles We
<v Speaker 1>weren't done. Miami Dolphins running back Alexander Madison will miss
<v Speaker 1>the entire twenty twenty five NFL season due to a
<v Speaker 1>neck injury that he suffered against the Bears in their
<v Speaker 1>first game on Sunday. And Friday night's preseason game between
<v Speaker 1>the Detroit Lions and the Atlanta Fielkens was actually canceled
<v Speaker 1>in the fourth quarter when Lions defensive back Maurice Norris
<v Speaker 1>tried to tackle Falcons running back Nathan Carter and suffered
<v Speaker 1>a neck injury. Now, they say Norris is recovering and
<v Speaker 1>he should be Okay. These just keep racking up, But
<v Speaker 1>I want you to remember these preseason injuries. When the
<v Speaker 1>NFL bumps otter season to eighteen games, because that is coming.
<v Speaker 1>They are going to drop either all or all but
<v Speaker 1>one of these preseason games, and then they're gonna add
<v Speaker 1>one more game to the regular season because you can't
<v Speaker 1>keep charging season ticket holders full price for these games
<v Speaker 1>where there's so many injuries, not much benefit. Oh and
<v Speaker 1>they keep canceling these preseason games as well. That's been
<v Speaker 1>done a couple times. Now, get ready, they're gonna say, hey, fellas,
<v Speaker 1>we're gonna do you a favor. We're gonna cancel the
<v Speaker 1>preseason great, and we're gonna add another regular season game.
<v Speaker 1>Don't say you didn't know, because it is coming. A
<v Speaker 1>little bit of college sports news this week as three
<v Speaker 1>departing members of the Mountain West Conference are actually suing
<v Speaker 1>the league, alleging it improperly withheld millions of dollars and
<v Speaker 1>misled them about a plan to accelerate Grand Canyons membership
<v Speaker 1>into the Mountain West. Boise State, Colorado State, and Usta
<v Speaker 1>State have filed an updated lawsuit in the District Court
<v Speaker 1>of Denver arguing the conference and the commissioner willfully disregarded
<v Speaker 1>the league's bylaws and intentionally and fraudulently deprived the schools
<v Speaker 1>of their membership rights. The three schools are all headed
<v Speaker 1>to the PAC twelve after this coming season, and they
<v Speaker 1>are seeking damages for millions of dollars because they say
<v Speaker 1>there was harm that was caused by the Mountain West,
<v Speaker 1>including withholding of money earned by Boise State for playing
<v Speaker 1>last year in the College Football Playoff. Now, the three
<v Speaker 1>outgoing schools argue the Mountain West exit fees, which could
<v Speaker 1>range from nineteen million to thirty eight million, are also
<v Speaker 1>unlawful and they shouldn't be enforced. And then, of course,
<v Speaker 1>the lawsuit says the Mountain West concealed a plan to
<v Speaker 1>move Grand Canyon into the league without informing their parting schools. Now,
<v Speaker 1>I'm not sure how this lawsuit that's up. If I
<v Speaker 1>had to guess, I would bet the schools in the
<v Speaker 1>conference will end up settling out of court and some
<v Speaker 1>money will change chance. But put that stuff aside, just
<v Speaker 1>real quick, one brief nue. The new PAC twelve is
<v Speaker 1>going to have Oregon State, Washington State, Boise State, Colorado State,
<v Speaker 1>Fresno State, San Diego State, Texas State, and Utah State.
<v Speaker 1>And then Gonzaga is going to be a non football member. Hey,
<v Speaker 1>I get that's an average football conference, but that NEWPAC
<v Speaker 1>twelve is going to be loaded in basketball. That conference
<v Speaker 1>is going to be legit. I can't wait for that
<v Speaker 1>NEWPAC twelve to start because that's going to be a
<v Speaker 1>fun hoops conference. Finally, you know, I tried to avoid it.
<v Speaker 1>I want wanted to avoid it. I haven't talked about it,
<v Speaker 1>but I'm afraid I'm gonna have to talk about it
<v Speaker 1>because there is a new trend taking place in the WNBA.
<v Speaker 1>I'm gonna try to get through this. Bear with me.
<v Speaker 1>You've got youngsters with you, and you need to plug
<v Speaker 1>their ears. I don't know, do what you need to do.
<v Speaker 1>Don't say you weren't warned. But apparently we have a
<v Speaker 1>new trend taking place in the WNBA where fans are
<v Speaker 1>lobbing sex toys out onto the court in the middle
<v Speaker 1>of games. There. I said it, it's out, they say.
<v Speaker 1>A group of crypto investors is claiming responsibility for a
<v Speaker 1>series of incidents where green sex toys were tossed onto
<v Speaker 1>WNBA courts, adding a strange wrinkle to a league that's
<v Speaker 1>already kind of weird but so far, WNBA games in Atlanta, Brooklyn, Chicago,
<v Speaker 1>LA and Phoenix have now seen bright green let's just say,
<v Speaker 1>objects thrown out onto the court during games. The incidents
<v Speaker 1>have spurred at least two arrests and an uproar from
<v Speaker 1>the WNBA and their fans. Now, I'll be honest, this
<v Speaker 1>story would actually be kind of funny, except that, of course,
<v Speaker 1>the WNBA takes itself way too seriously. You think I'm wrong,
<v Speaker 1>You're like, no, they don't. They don't take themselves that seriously.
<v Speaker 1>Check out this quote from Minnesota Link's head coach Cheryl
<v Speaker 1>Reeve last week. This has been going on for centuries,
<v Speaker 1>the sexualization of women. This is the latest version of that,
<v Speaker 1>and it's not funny and it should not be the
<v Speaker 1>butt of jokes on any radio shows or in print
<v Speaker 1>or in any comments. Now I've said before the WNBA
<v Speaker 1>takes himself too seriously, and the WNBA is just completely
<v Speaker 1>tone deaf. But please remember this before we go down.
<v Speaker 1>This is a sexualisation thing. This is an anti woman thing,
<v Speaker 1>this is a homophobic thing. Please remember we have seen
<v Speaker 1>this happen before at NFL games. I can think of
<v Speaker 1>one specifically. It took place in Buffalo, during a Bills game.
<v Speaker 1>Was that the sexualization of men? Was that homophobic? Or
<v Speaker 1>was that also a sexualization of women? Because I don't
<v Speaker 1>know what that was, but we've seen it before. Let's
<v Speaker 1>not act like this is brand new once again. Find
<v Speaker 1>me a more tone deaf group than the WNBA. Wait
<v Speaker 1>a second, remember when the WNBA players bore that pay
<v Speaker 1>us what we Deserve t shirt at the All Star Game? Huh?
<v Speaker 1>Maybe this is just what people think they deserve.
<v Speaker 3>You ugly hate failed man.
<v Speaker 2>Hey, hey, I may be ugly and hate field, but
<v Speaker 2>I what was the third thing you said? So?
<v Speaker 1>The college football and NFL seasons are coming quickly, and
<v Speaker 1>it is interesting every year because with football games only
<v Speaker 1>being played once a week, we are always trying to
<v Speaker 1>solve the mystery of who is who in the NFL
<v Speaker 1>and who is who in college I mean, teams play
<v Speaker 1>one week, they look great, we think we have them
<v Speaker 1>figured out. The next week they look terrible. Okay, so
<v Speaker 1>who is this team really?
<v Speaker 3>Well?
<v Speaker 1>Today? I'm at dy, what does We are going to
<v Speaker 1>look at a few games very early in the season,
<v Speaker 1>I mean in the first few weeks in both college
<v Speaker 1>football and the NFL, and they are going to give
<v Speaker 1>us some big clues as to who is who. Let's
<v Speaker 1>start off in college football, where sometimes I feel like
<v Speaker 1>it's a little bit easier to figure out these teams
<v Speaker 1>because there's only so many truly quality opponents on each
<v Speaker 1>team's schedule. We'll get ready for some early games that
<v Speaker 1>are going to be very revealing in Week one, August thirtieth. Hey,
<v Speaker 1>don't look now, kids, but that is coming very very
<v Speaker 1>quickly m Mountain Standard time. I'm convinced I know why
<v Speaker 1>they're doing this at ten am. Because each team has
<v Speaker 1>young players. They don't want them to be that nervous.
<v Speaker 1>The number one Texas Longhorns are going to be facing
<v Speaker 1>number two in the Coach is pulled, number three in
<v Speaker 1>the a People Ohio State Buckeyes in the Horseshoe. Quarterback
<v Speaker 1>arch Manny will be getting his first start for Texas.
<v Speaker 1>Ohio State has new coordinators on both sides of the ball,
<v Speaker 1>and they are going to be trying to figure out
<v Speaker 1>which quarterback is really going to take that job and
<v Speaker 1>run with it. Hey, both of these teams are loaded
<v Speaker 1>this year, and losing this game won't take either of
<v Speaker 1>them out of contention unless you get blown out either way.
<v Speaker 1>This first game is going to give us some big
<v Speaker 1>clues as to how each of these teams are going
<v Speaker 1>to be this year. I can't wait for that one.
<v Speaker 1>Also in Week one, later that day at five point
<v Speaker 1>thirty pm, we will get the number nine LSU Tigers
<v Speaker 1>going to Death Valley to face the number six Clemson Tigers. Hey,
<v Speaker 1>Brian and LSU need to win an opener. They are
<v Speaker 1>currently zero to three in their opening game under BK
<v Speaker 1>LSU quarterback Garrett Nessmeyer. They're already saying he might be
<v Speaker 1>a little bit banged up and he should be one
<v Speaker 1>of the top quarterbacks in the country. But it isn't
<v Speaker 1>just LSU. Clemson needs this game too. Dablos Winny is
<v Speaker 1>hoping this team can get back to the national championship
<v Speaker 1>kind of picture. Quarterback k Klubnick needs a big start.
<v Speaker 1>We've got SEC versus ACC, Dabbo versus Brian Kelly. Hey,
<v Speaker 1>this is going to be very interesting in week one.
<v Speaker 1>Fast forward to Week two, where we will get an
<v Speaker 1>evening game that features number fourteen Michigan going to Norman,
<v Speaker 1>Oklahoma to face the Sooners. Now, remember Michigan head coach
<v Speaker 1>Ron Moore is a Sooner, a lump and he is
<v Speaker 1>going to take that self administered suspension in week three
<v Speaker 1>and four against Central Michigan and Nebraska. Of course, for
<v Speaker 1>all of that, you know Jim Harbaugh cheating stuff. Also
<v Speaker 1>keep in mind Oklahoma head coach Brett Venables. He needs
<v Speaker 1>to win, He needs to win badly. Michigan versus Oklahoma
<v Speaker 1>in week two, that's gonna be big. In week three,
<v Speaker 1>we get another revealing game when number twenty one Texas
<v Speaker 1>A and M goes to South Bend to face the
<v Speaker 1>number five Notre Dame fighting Irish. Of course, the Irish
<v Speaker 1>went all the way to the National Title Game last year,
<v Speaker 1>but remember they had to kind of hold on for
<v Speaker 1>dear life to get past A and M and that
<v Speaker 1>season opener. Now, Notre Dame lost some people. I still
<v Speaker 1>think put a playoff contender, and I think A and
<v Speaker 1>M is very dangerous this year. Don't say he didn't know.
<v Speaker 1>They didn't lose much at all. This could be a
<v Speaker 1>huge game in week three. Let's fast forward just a
<v Speaker 1>little bit. We go to week five, where we get
<v Speaker 1>two early season conference games, and both of these are
<v Speaker 1>in primetime. On September twenty seventh, Hey, block that day
<v Speaker 1>out on your calendar. First up, we get a Big
<v Speaker 1>Ten battle where number seven Oregon goes to number either
<v Speaker 1>two or three Penn State. Hey, spin it however you want.
<v Speaker 1>Penn State needs to be someone like a real, live,
<v Speaker 1>actual ranked team. Also, remember the last time we saw
<v Speaker 1>Oregon they were getting curb stomped in the College Football
<v Speaker 1>Playoff by Ohio State by twenty This game will give
<v Speaker 1>the winner a leg up in the Big Ten. This
<v Speaker 1>is a big one. Also, in week five, we get
<v Speaker 1>a big SEC game when the number eight Alabama Crimson
<v Speaker 1>tied go to Athens to face the number four Georgia. Hey,
<v Speaker 1>I know it will only be late September. Looking at
<v Speaker 1>the schedule, the winner of this game is going to
<v Speaker 1>have an inside track to get to the SEC championship game.
<v Speaker 1>Bama needs a bounce back year this year. They stumbled
<v Speaker 1>a bit last year. Georgia is still Georgia, but they
<v Speaker 1>lost some people. These are five big college football games
<v Speaker 1>that are going to give us some very big clues
<v Speaker 1>as to who is who, and they are going to
<v Speaker 1>all be played before we ever get to the month
<v Speaker 1>of October. I can't wait for it. Let's move to
<v Speaker 1>the NFL, which I actually think is more difficult to
<v Speaker 1>calculate because on any given Sunday, any team can win.
<v Speaker 1>I mean, every NFL team has talent. So here are
<v Speaker 1>a few early season games that are also going to
<v Speaker 1>tell us a lot going forward, and again we're keeping
<v Speaker 1>them early. We start off in Week one and I'm
<v Speaker 1>skipping the Dallas Philly game, which should be interesting on
<v Speaker 1>Thursday night, But we get the defending AFC champion Kansas
<v Speaker 1>City Chiefs going to Los Angeles to face their AFC
<v Speaker 1>West rival, the LA Chargers. Now, both of these teams
<v Speaker 1>have already gotten some rough injury news this year, but
<v Speaker 1>both of them also have big expectations. Also, the Chiefs
<v Speaker 1>have a seven game winning streak against the Chargers. Can
<v Speaker 1>Patrick Mahomes keep that rolling? Is Jim Harbaugh going to
<v Speaker 1>get his quarterback Justin Herbert to finally live up to
<v Speaker 1>his expectations for a Week one game? Oh, Charges versus
<v Speaker 1>Chiefs is great. Also in Week one, we're not done.
<v Speaker 1>We get a rematch of the AFC Divisional playoff game
<v Speaker 1>last year between the Baltimore Ravens and the Buffalo Bills. Now,
<v Speaker 1>in that game, the Ravens put up four hundred and
<v Speaker 1>sixteen total yards to the Bills two seventy three. However,
<v Speaker 1>the Ravens had some ill time turnovers, maybe a drop
<v Speaker 1>or two. Will this game make up for that, of
<v Speaker 1>course not, but it might give us a hint as
<v Speaker 1>to how each of these teams is going to look
<v Speaker 1>this year. Moving forward to Week two, I want to
<v Speaker 1>keep an eye on that Washington Commander's team this year
<v Speaker 1>because they exceeded all expectations last year. They go all
<v Speaker 1>the way to the NFC Title Game, where they lose
<v Speaker 1>the Philly Well, in Week two, the Commanders will go
<v Speaker 1>to Green Bay to face a Packers team that I
<v Speaker 1>don't even know what to expect. Last year, the Packers
<v Speaker 1>looked good at times, they look bad at times. They
<v Speaker 1>had problems with consistent but they made it to the
<v Speaker 1>postseason before they also lost to the Eagles. Well, are
<v Speaker 1>the Commander's going to take a step back this year?
<v Speaker 1>Are the Packers going to take a step forward this year?
<v Speaker 1>I don't know, but I can't wait to find out. Also,
<v Speaker 1>in Week two, we get another game between two teams
<v Speaker 1>that are hoping to take a big step forward when
<v Speaker 1>the Tampa Bay Buccaneers go to Houston to face the Texans. Now,
<v Speaker 1>the Bucks were ten and seven last year they lost
<v Speaker 1>to Washington in a really tight wildcard game. They actually
<v Speaker 1>played Washington pretty tough. Was Tampa maybe better than we thought?
<v Speaker 1>Not sure? And then the Houston Texans saw a quarterback CJ.
<v Speaker 1>Stroud take a bit of a step backward last year,
<v Speaker 1>but then he also did rally them to a playoff
<v Speaker 1>win over the Chargers before they ended up losing to
<v Speaker 1>the Chiefs. This game in Week two could be very interesting. Finally,
<v Speaker 1>we get to Week three where we could see some
<v Speaker 1>major fireworks because the Cincinnati Bengals and that high powered
<v Speaker 1>Joe Burrow offense will go to Minnesota to face a
<v Speaker 1>Viight Kings team that just might have all the pieces.
<v Speaker 1>But we need to see what quarterback JJ McCarthy is
<v Speaker 1>going to look like in live action. Of course, last
<v Speaker 1>year he was lost for the season with that knee injury.
<v Speaker 1>Sam Darnold took over and led the Vikings to a
<v Speaker 1>fourteen and three record. Joe Burrow versus JJ McCarthy, Jamar
<v Speaker 1>Chase and T. Higgins against Justin Jefferson and TJ. Hockinson.
<v Speaker 1>Oh yeah, this could be a shootout. This could be
<v Speaker 1>a really fun game, and this could be another early
<v Speaker 1>season clue as to how each of these teams is
<v Speaker 1>going to do. We remember you should be stopping by

<v Speaker 1>and there are some ugly, so make sure you're stopping
<v Speaker 1>by there. You can also email the podcast anytime you

<v Speaker 1>baseball cap, they have it all over there. Just go
<v Speaker 1>check out what we have going on over at dailydosports
<v Speaker 1>dot com. Now, as we do so many weeks shut
<v Speaker 1>through Daily Dose, we need to get over to our
<v Speaker 1>Daily Dose Top five. So, like we just talked about,
<v Speaker 1>we have some really interesting early season NFL games coming
<v Speaker 1>when this regular season kicks off, and that is just
<v Speaker 1>a few weeks away. I mean, we only looked at
<v Speaker 1>five games, and there's a million other ones out there
<v Speaker 1>that are great matchups, and of course every team wants
<v Speaker 1>to win their opener. Statistically, it honestly doesn't matter that much.
<v Speaker 1>But you just feel a little bit better when you
<v Speaker 1>start the season with a W right, But what about
<v Speaker 1>when you start the season with a bunch of w's.
<v Speaker 1>What about when you start the season with a winning streak?
<v Speaker 1>Does that guarantee success? Well a little? But today our
<v Speaker 1>deal with those top five is counting down the best
<v Speaker 1>starts ever to an NFL season, and we'll look at
<v Speaker 1>how each one of these teams actually ended up. So
<v Speaker 1>we actually have a four way tie at number five.
<v Speaker 1>Because four teams have started the NFL season by winning
<v Speaker 1>their first thirteen games. It's a lot of wins. In
<v Speaker 1>twenty eleven, Aaron Rodgers led the Green Bay Packers to
<v Speaker 1>win their first thirteen games, but they would eventually lose
<v Speaker 1>to the New York Giants in the playoffs. The two
<v Speaker 1>thousand and nine New Orleans Saints won their first thirteen
<v Speaker 1>games as head coach Sean Payton and quarterback Drew Brees
<v Speaker 1>would go on to win Super Bowl forty four. The
<v Speaker 1>two thousand and five Indianapolis close won thirteen games as
<v Speaker 1>Peyton Manning and that offense were torching opponents. But then
<v Speaker 1>they got to the playoffs and they actually got smacked
<v Speaker 1>in the mouth by the Pittsburgh Steelers and lost in
<v Speaker 1>the divisional round. And then the nineteen ninety eight Denver
<v Speaker 1>Broncos were coming off of winning the Super Bowl with
<v Speaker 1>Terrell Davis and John Elway in ninety eight. They started
<v Speaker 1>the season thirteen and oh and then May lost the
<v Speaker 1>game to the New York Giants, but the Broncos would rally.
<v Speaker 1>They would end up winning Super Bowl thirty three. Starting
<v Speaker 1>the season thirteen to oh seems like you'd almost be
<v Speaker 1>guaranteed to win the Super Bowl. But today we have
<v Speaker 1>four teams that did it, and the Super Bowl winning
<v Speaker 1>percentage was only fifty percent. Those thirteen game winning streaks
<v Speaker 1>to start the season coming today tied at number five,
<v Speaker 1>and I guess number four, So we moved to number
<v Speaker 1>three and we have another tie, but it's just between
<v Speaker 1>two teams. Because back in twenty fifteen, the Carolina Panthers
<v Speaker 1>had a pretty good defense and they had the MVP
<v Speaker 1>in quarterback Cam Newton. They started the season with an
<v Speaker 1>amazing fourteen and oh record. They rolled to the Super Bowl,
<v Speaker 1>but then in Super Bowl fifty they were beaten by
<v Speaker 1>a little bit better defense when Von Miller and the
<v Speaker 1>Denver Broncos were the beginning of the of Newton's career,
<v Speaker 1>also starting with fourteen wins in a row. We're the
<v Speaker 1>two thousand and nine Indianapolis Colts. Peyton Manning and that
<v Speaker 1>offense got to avoid their nemesis to New England Patriots,
<v Speaker 1>so they went all the way to the Super Bowl,
<v Speaker 1>and in Super Bowl forty four they were beat by
<v Speaker 1>those New Orleans Saints in the Big Game. Both of
<v Speaker 1>our number three teams started the season fourteen to zero,
<v Speaker 1>neither one of them ended up being Super Bowl champions.
<v Speaker 1>They come in to day at number three. We moved
<v Speaker 1>to number two on our list of teams that started
<v Speaker 1>the NFL season the strongest, and we get to one
<v Speaker 1>that still owns a slice of history because the nineteen
<v Speaker 1>seventy two Miami Dolphins are the only team in NFL
<v Speaker 1>history to finish the entire season without a single loss.
<v Speaker 1>Don Shula led a team that featured both Earl Morrile
<v Speaker 1>and Bob Greasy at quarterback, plus they had Mercury Morris Dad,
<v Speaker 1>Larry zamkab be a Jim kick. They have that nasty
<v Speaker 1>defense that held opponents to just twelve points per game.
<v Speaker 1>The Dolphins went fourteen to oh in the regular season,
<v Speaker 1>then they beat Cleveland and Pittsburgh in the playoffs, and
<v Speaker 1>then they beat Washington in Super Bowl seven. The seventy
<v Speaker 1>two Miami Dolphins won seventeen games in a row to
<v Speaker 1>start the season, they won the Super Bowl, and they
<v Speaker 1>come in today at number two. So we reached the
<v Speaker 1>number one team on our list of NFL teams that
<v Speaker 1>had the strongest start in history. And we go to
<v Speaker 1>the two thousand and seven New England Patriots. Bill Belichick
<v Speaker 1>had maybe his best team ever with Tom Brady and
<v Speaker 1>Randy Moss and Wells Welker and Lawrence Maroney and Kevin
<v Speaker 1>Faalk and Teddy Bruski and Junior Sea and Rodney Harrison.
<v Speaker 1>That team was loaded. The Patriots finished the regular season
<v Speaker 1>sixteen to h. They beat the Jaguars, they beat the
<v Speaker 1>Chargers to go eighteen to oh, and then went to
<v Speaker 1>Super Bowl forty two, where they were double digit favorites
<v Speaker 1>to beat the ten and six New York Giants. Of course,
<v Speaker 1>Nolan told the Giants they beat up Brady, and of
<v Speaker 1>course Eli Manning made that improbable throw to David Tyree
<v Speaker 1>and the Giants pulled off one of the biggest upsets
<v Speaker 1>in Super Bowl history. The New England Patriots have the
<v Speaker 1>longest winning streak at eighteen games to start an NFL
<v Speaker 1>season in history. They just didn't win the Super Bowl. Hey,
<v Speaker 1>expectations change when you start the season so strong. The
<v Speaker 1>target on your back gets bigger as you win all
<v Speaker 1>those games, and you start feeling the pressure of winning
<v Speaker 1>every single week, and all those things tell us why
<v Speaker 1>out of the eight teams on our list today, only
<v Speaker 1>three of them ended up winning the Super Bowl. Hey,
<v Speaker 1>next week in the Daily Does, playtime is over. The
<v Speaker 1>football season is going to beginning. Here we will be
