<v Speaker 1>Wednesday, September seventeenth, twenty twenty five, you are listening to
<v Speaker 1>the Daily Dough Sports podcast and I am your host,
<v Speaker 1>Clinton Daily, coming to you for the MAA High City
<v Speaker 1>here in Denver, Colorado, and we are back for another
<v Speaker 1>week of talking sports with the Dallas of Common Sense. Hey,
<v Speaker 1>Happy Wednesday to you. I hope you had a good weekend.
<v Speaker 1>I hope your week is going well and that you,
<v Speaker 1>your family of friends, everyone in your world is staying
<v Speaker 1>strong and healthy right now. And I sincerely hope that
<v Speaker 1>you watched that Canelo versus Crawford fight this past Saturday night,
<v Speaker 1>because if you did, Hey, you actually saw some sports history.
<v Speaker 1>Terrence Crawford moved up two weight divisions to challenge Canelo Alvarez,
<v Speaker 1>and he scored the biggest win of his career, a
<v Speaker 1>unanimous decision victory to win the undisputed super middleweight championship
<v Speaker 1>on Saturday night at Allegiance Stadium in Las Vegas. Hey,
<v Speaker 1>that was Jordan putting up sixty three in the garden.
<v Speaker 1>That was Joe Montana in the two minute drill. That
<v Speaker 1>was Tiger at Augusta. That was Gretzky leading a rush
<v Speaker 1>with open ice ahead of him. I'm not saying Crawford
<v Speaker 1>is the goat, but Crawford is now in the conversation. Hey,
<v Speaker 1>I told you last week. I fully expected Crawford to
<v Speaker 1>outbox Canelo because Crawford is a slick fighter. That didn't
<v Speaker 1>surprise me. It didn't even surprise me that Crawford was
<v Speaker 1>such a good counterpuncher all night. Again. Crawford is a
<v Speaker 1>slick fighter. He's a gym rat. What I didn't expect
<v Speaker 1>was for Crawford to outpower Canelo. I thought Canelo would
<v Speaker 1>be stronger than Crawford, land a few body blows, maybe
<v Speaker 1>hurt him at least a little, and narrowly win the
<v Speaker 1>fight because he was a champ. He got to beat
<v Speaker 1>the champ, right. That's not what happened. And I started
<v Speaker 1>to get concern just seeing Terence Crawford walking into the
<v Speaker 1>stadium because it looked like he was carrying that extra
<v Speaker 1>weight really naturally. And one thing to remember, Crawford is
<v Speaker 1>thirty seven years old. There's been a lot of talk, well,
<v Speaker 1>Canelo is older, Canelo is a little past his prime.
<v Speaker 1>Canel is only thirty five, Crawford is two years older. Okay,
<v Speaker 1>so the fight starts, they feel each other out. I
<v Speaker 1>had Crawford winning the first few rounds. I thought Canelo
<v Speaker 1>maybe won the fifth round, and what I saw on
<v Speaker 1>the fifth round is what I believe changed the fight,
<v Speaker 1>because in that fifth round, I thought Canelo actually connected
<v Speaker 1>with Crawford and actually got a piece of him and
<v Speaker 1>hit him pretty hard, and you saw Crawford kind of
<v Speaker 1>smile back at him, and I went, uh oh, because
<v Speaker 1>then Crawford came out in the sixth round way more aggressive,
<v Speaker 1>and I think we started to really hate Canel's power
<v Speaker 1>didn't hurt him, and Canelo may have realized then too, Yeah,
<v Speaker 1>this isn't going as expected, because then we saw Crawford
<v Speaker 1>hit Canelo a few times, and I think Canelo realized
<v Speaker 1>he didn't have the power advantage that we all thought
<v Speaker 1>he would now. I scored the fight one eighteen to
<v Speaker 1>one ten in favor of Crawford. The judges scored at
<v Speaker 1>one sixteen, one twelve, and then two of them had
<v Speaker 1>at one fifteen, one thirteen, again as usual. I have
<v Speaker 1>no idea what fight the judges were watching, but knowing boxing,
<v Speaker 1>I was actually just amazed they didn't give Kanelo the win,
<v Speaker 1>even though he had been thoroughly dominated all night. Hey,
<v Speaker 1>we've seen it before from that filthy sport. But here's
<v Speaker 1>hoping that we start seeing some more entertaining, big name
<v Speaker 1>fights like this one in the future, because that was
<v Speaker 1>a really fun night. And I know there's talk of
<v Speaker 1>a rematch. I'll be honest, I don't know if I
<v Speaker 1>want to see a rematch. I didn't see anything that
<v Speaker 1>gave me hope Canelo could win because Crawford was just
<v Speaker 1>better in all phases all night. Hey, todam it does
<v Speaker 1>another week down in the NFL and college football. Today,
<v Speaker 1>going to take a look at a few winners and
<v Speaker 1>losers from that week in football. Man, you might have
<v Speaker 1>heard me just say that this win actually put Terrence
<v Speaker 1>Crawford into some pretty elite company. Our daily dose Top
<v Speaker 1>five will take a closer look at exactly that. But first,
<v Speaker 1>a couple of news stories I do want to touch on,
<v Speaker 1>and one is in the world of the NCUBLEA. Did
<v Speaker 1>you hear that thirteen men's college basketball players from six
<v Speaker 1>different schools were involved in gambling schemes, including betting against
<v Speaker 1>their own team, game manipulation, and sharing information with third
<v Speaker 1>parties for gambling purposes. The NCUBA announced that last week,
<v Speaker 1>yeah players associated with Eastern Michigan Temple, Arizona State, New Orleans,
<v Speaker 1>North Carolin Line of A and T, and Mississippi Valley
<v Speaker 1>State are under investigation for gambling violations. That is, according
<v Speaker 1>to the NCAA, none of the players, though they say,
<v Speaker 1>are currently enrolled at the schools where those infractions occurred. Now,
<v Speaker 1>I have a couple of observations on this one. I
<v Speaker 1>am noticing that this is basically all irrelevant players on
<v Speaker 1>basically all irrelevant teams in the grand scheme of things. Now,
<v Speaker 1>maybe that's just a wacky coincidence, but I'm not sure
<v Speaker 1>I believe that. I actually believe that is almost by design.
<v Speaker 1>Hey hit the irrelevant guys at the irrelevant programs, and
<v Speaker 1>let that be a warning to the relevant players at
<v Speaker 1>the blue blood programs that they could get themselves in
<v Speaker 1>trouble if they aren't careful. And Secondly, I strongly doubt
<v Speaker 1>we're really going to hear that much of any true
<v Speaker 1>punishment that's handed down for any of these infractions. All
<v Speaker 1>these guys are going to get a certain talking to,
<v Speaker 1>But I really believe this is just posturing, and I'm
<v Speaker 1>not sure it's really gonna serve as enough of a
<v Speaker 1>deterrent because we're not gonna hear about any punishments. We're
<v Speaker 1>not gonna hear about jail time. None of those things
<v Speaker 1>are gonna happen. It's going to keep happening. It's probably
<v Speaker 1>going to get worse. And one final story that at
<v Speaker 1>least I found interesting because it seems that the Baltimore
<v Speaker 1>Ravens had planned to draft University of Colorado quarterbacks should
<v Speaker 1>Dour Sanders. They claimed they were gonna take him in
<v Speaker 1>the fifth round of this past twenty twenty five NFL Draft,
<v Speaker 1>But before the Ravens could turn in the card, the
<v Speaker 1>former Colorado buff star let it be known to the
<v Speaker 1>Ravens he didn't want to be on that roster. He
<v Speaker 1>didn't want to be on a roster with Lamar Jackson
<v Speaker 1>because he wouldn't have a chance to play anytime soon.
<v Speaker 1>You see, Sanders knows that Jackson is a two time MVP,
<v Speaker 1>he's one of the top players in the league. He's
<v Speaker 1>not gonna lose his job in Baltimore anytime soon. So
<v Speaker 1>he conveyed the message to Baltimore that he didn't want
<v Speaker 1>to be drafted by them and that he preferred to
<v Speaker 1>end up in another place where he might have a
<v Speaker 1>chance to play sooner. So the Ravens instead drafted an
<v Speaker 1>offensive lineman no one's ever heard of, and Sanders fell
<v Speaker 1>to the Cleveland Browns. So he didn't want to be
<v Speaker 1>behind Lamar Jackson. But currently he's listed third on the
<v Speaker 1>Browns depth chart, behind Joe Flacco and fellow rookie Dylan Gabriel.
<v Speaker 1>But when you stop and think about the whole situation,
<v Speaker 1>Sanders called the Ravens a team with an incredible quarterback
<v Speaker 1>to learn from and a team that is always in
<v Speaker 1>contention for a Super Bowl that he didn't want to
<v Speaker 1>go there because he would struggle to get playing time.
<v Speaker 1>I mean, forget the player development in a franchise with
<v Speaker 1>a history of winning, Forget that the head coach is
<v Speaker 1>among the best. Never mind the role model that Lamar
<v Speaker 1>Jackson would provide, or the weapons on both sides of
<v Speaker 1>the ball that say would inherit if God forbid, something
<v Speaker 1>happened to Jackson and shouldor found himself on the field.
<v Speaker 1>This was about shad Door Sanders. He wanted the spotlight.
<v Speaker 1>He wanted the chance at playing time, even if it
<v Speaker 1>was for a notoriously garbage heap of a franchise. I
<v Speaker 1>know it got thrown around a lot. Why should or
<v Speaker 1>Sanders fell? But this says a lot about Sanders and
<v Speaker 1>about the people that he has around him. It's no
<v Speaker 1>wonder hefel you chose to back up Joe Flacco and
<v Speaker 1>Dylan Gabriel with a terrible team over backing up Lamar
<v Speaker 1>and a contender. Again, your level of entitlement just doesn't
<v Speaker 1>really match your level of talent. So Week two of
<v Speaker 1>the NFL is now complete, and as usual, we've got
<v Speaker 1>a few winners and we've got a few losers from
<v Speaker 1>the week. Let's take a look at a few of each.
<v Speaker 1>I'm gonna give our first winner to a team that,
<v Speaker 1>at least right now, might look like the best team
<v Speaker 1>in the league. It's early. I'm not fully in on
<v Speaker 1>this quite yet, but the offense is putting up big numbers,
<v Speaker 1>and now with the addition of Micah Parsons, the Green
<v Speaker 1>Bay Packers just might be a Super Bowl contender if
<v Speaker 1>they can keep this all together. Hey, they run the
<v Speaker 1>ball effectively with running back Josh Jacobs, and I haven't
<v Speaker 1>witnessed it personally just yet, but quarterback Jordan Love is
<v Speaker 1>apparently putting up some big numbers when he plays. And
<v Speaker 1>again now with Michaeh Parsons that Packers defense, they might
<v Speaker 1>be one of the top units in the league. Here
<v Speaker 1>are some more good news the Packers' next five or
<v Speaker 1>six games. Yet they're highly winnable. Hey, don't be surprised
<v Speaker 1>if Green Bay is undefeated. When they face the Eagles
<v Speaker 1>in November, they probably will be undefeated. That is going
<v Speaker 1>to be a heavyweight fight. But I will give our
<v Speaker 1>first loser to the Cincinnati Bengals, of course, who every
<v Speaker 1>single year we discussed it here on the Dose, how
<v Speaker 1>they just keep trying to get core Joe Burrow killed,
<v Speaker 1>and it looks like they've kind of accomplished that this
<v Speaker 1>year because Burrow is now out indefinitely with turf toe,
<v Speaker 1>which I know that sounds minor, it's not. It's basically
<v Speaker 1>torn tendons in your toe. You can't walk, you can't
<v Speaker 1>play with it. And hey, on Sunday, the Bengals managed
<v Speaker 1>to beat the Jaguars. They are not to and o,
<v Speaker 1>which sounds great until you remember they've beaten the Browns
<v Speaker 1>and the Jaguars. Next up for Cincinnati Vikings, Broncos, Lions, Packers.
<v Speaker 1>Good luck. It's almost like the Bengals should have spent
<v Speaker 1>some money on their offensive line. They just never do that.
<v Speaker 1>And before you want to tell me about Browning stepping
<v Speaker 1>in and he's gonna be fine, just remember last year
<v Speaker 1>Joe Burrow was throwing for four hundred yards and they
<v Speaker 1>were still losing. Are you gonna tell me Brownie's gonna
<v Speaker 1>throw for more than four hundred yards? Because I don't
<v Speaker 1>believe that. I'm gonna give a winner, and I'm gonna
<v Speaker 1>give it to a guy that has at least looked
<v Speaker 1>really good through two weeks of the season, and that
<v Speaker 1>is Indianapolis Colts quarterback Daniel Jones. Hey, through these first
<v Speaker 1>two games, Jones has now thrown for almost six hundred
<v Speaker 1>yards and the Colts are two and oh they lit
<v Speaker 1>up the Denver Broncos defense on Sunday. Hey, the Colts
<v Speaker 1>might win that AFC South at this rate. I'm not
<v Speaker 1>sold on their defense quite yet. They need to get healthy.
<v Speaker 1>They got a lot of guys out the Daniel Jones
<v Speaker 1>is playing really well so far, but I will give
<v Speaker 1>out another loser. And I know, I know this is
<v Speaker 1>only temporary, but I do not like what I am
<v Speaker 1>saying from the Kansas City Chiefs I know they don't
<v Speaker 1>have her sheet Rice, I know Xavier Worthy is out,
<v Speaker 1>but it's not the passing game I'm worried about. Through
<v Speaker 1>two games, Quarterback Patrick Mahomes is the chief leading rusher.
<v Speaker 1>The Chiefs have zero run game, no wide receivers. Oh
<v Speaker 1>and by the way, no pass rush because past rusher
<v Speaker 1>Chris Jones he doesn't look like he used to. You know,
<v Speaker 1>I've been saying it the past few weeks, but teams
<v Speaker 1>are no longer afraid of the Chiefs like they used
<v Speaker 1>to be. Yes, I know they'll get better. I expect
<v Speaker 1>them to rally, I expect them to improve, but the
<v Speaker 1>Chiefs aren't quite the same. They just aren't. I will
<v Speaker 1>give one final winner in the NFL this week, and
<v Speaker 1>I Am going to just give it to NFL offenses
<v Speaker 1>in general. You know, many times as the season starts,
<v Speaker 1>we see defenses kind of hitting the ground running and
<v Speaker 1>then offenses take a little while to gel and kind
<v Speaker 1>of get up to speed. That hasn't been the case
<v Speaker 1>so far this season. NFL teams are scoring some serious
<v Speaker 1>points right now. Teams are averaging over twenty three points
<v Speaker 1>per game, which is the highest average we have seen
<v Speaker 1>since twenty twenty. This past weekend, we saw more than
<v Speaker 1>fifteen NFL teams score at least twenty five points. Hey,
<v Speaker 1>the NFL has tilted the game in favor of the offenses,
<v Speaker 1>and it shows no question about that, which brings us
<v Speaker 1>to our final NFL loser. And that is, unfortunately the
<v Speaker 1>NFL officials. And again it's not fully their fault because
<v Speaker 1>the league asks them to see way too much. But man,
<v Speaker 1>we are seeing some really bad officiating. And yes, I
<v Speaker 1>am bitter about the nonsensical flag against my Broncos that
<v Speaker 1>hurt them so much. I'm not gonna say it cost
<v Speaker 1>them the game, because they hurt themselves enough to cost
<v Speaker 1>them the game. But it wasn't just that. What in
<v Speaker 1>the world are refs looking at In that Chiefs Eagles game.
<v Speaker 1>We're seeing defensive players be flagged constantly for little tiki
<v Speaker 1>tac fouls, But on every play, just about I see
<v Speaker 1>an offensive tackle stand up before the ball is snap.
<v Speaker 1>We're seeing guys jump across the line early. I don't
<v Speaker 1>understand it. Are they just ignoring it because it's happening
<v Speaker 1>so much that I have to think it's not an accident. Hey,
<v Speaker 1>the NFL officiating is clearly not in regular season mo
<v Speaker 1>just yet, but it needs to hurry up and catch
<v Speaker 1>up because it has been bad. But now let's move
<v Speaker 1>over to college football, which is almost now one month
<v Speaker 1>into the season, and yes, we are starting to learn
<v Speaker 1>some things fast over there. Let's take a look at
<v Speaker 1>some winners and lose those in college football as well.
<v Speaker 1>I'm going to give our very first winner and I'm
<v Speaker 1>going to give it out in college football to comedian
<v Speaker 1>Bo Vaughn. Also, I'm drinking like Monster energy drinks sometimes,
<v Speaker 1>which are delicious, but they make you want to pay
<v Speaker 1>think you want to beat your wife. Du dude, I've
<v Speaker 1>seen a lot of dudes drinking Monster that you know
<v Speaker 1>they're going home to punch. Why in the world would
<v Speaker 1>I do that? Because it seems that Vanderbilt quarterback Diego
<v Speaker 1>Pavia told the Vonne that if his Vanderbilt Commodorees went
<v Speaker 1>into Colombia, the home of the number eleven South Carolina
<v Speaker 1>game Cocks, and won the game, that von could go
<v Speaker 1>out with his nugget of a hot mom. Well. Pavia
<v Speaker 1>threw for one hundred and seventy seven yards and two touchdowns,
<v Speaker 1>and Vandy smoked the game Cocks thirty one to seven.
<v Speaker 1>It was quietly one of the biggest upsets of the season,
<v Speaker 1>and it is a comedian that will be reaping the
<v Speaker 1>benefits of it. Hey, it's kind of weird to say,
<v Speaker 1>but this might be the best Vanderbilt team in history.
<v Speaker 1>I will give out our first loser, though, and that
<v Speaker 1>is to UCLA quarterback Nico ima Lava. You remember im Lava, right,
<v Speaker 1>He was at Tennessee, but he wanted Tennessee to give
<v Speaker 1>him more money and they said they wouldn't. So he
<v Speaker 1>went to UCLA and they ended up actually well actually
<v Speaker 1>saying they'd give him more money, but then they gave
<v Speaker 1>him less money than what Tennessee was going to give him.
<v Speaker 1>So he was going to go back to Tennessee, but
<v Speaker 1>then Tennessee didn't mind him back, so now he's at UCLA. Well,
<v Speaker 1>this past weekend, the Tennessee Volunteers were hosting Georgia. They
<v Speaker 1>were the host of College Football Game Day on ESPN.
<v Speaker 1>The game went to overtime. It was big time college
<v Speaker 1>football and New Tennessee quarterback Joey Aguilar he's actually really good.
<v Speaker 1>He threw for three hundred and seventy one yards. He
<v Speaker 1>had four touchdowns. Meanwhile, Nico is playing at UCLA in
<v Speaker 1>front of one hundred and seventy five people in the stands,
<v Speaker 1>and UCLA is getting smoked by New Mexico thirty five
<v Speaker 1>to ten. And UCLA just fired their head coachter Sean Foster.
<v Speaker 1>So I mean, good luck, kid, you got greedy, and honestly,
<v Speaker 1>this has been painful to watch. Whoever is giving that
<v Speaker 1>kid advice you failed and as a result, he's a loser.
<v Speaker 1>But I'm gonna give a winner, and I'm going to
<v Speaker 1>give it to a conference, and that is the Southeastern Conference. Now.
<v Speaker 1>I know, going into the season we were saying how
<v Speaker 1>there might not really be an elite team in the country,
<v Speaker 1>and based on what I've seen so far, I still
<v Speaker 1>stand by that. But the SEC is as strong as
<v Speaker 1>it has ever been, top to bottom. Do you realize
<v Speaker 1>there are right now twelve SEC teams ranked in the
<v Speaker 1>top twenty five. Almost half of the top twenty five
<v Speaker 1>is in the SEC. Might sound crazy, but the SEC
<v Speaker 1>could get four, maybe even five teams into the College
<v Speaker 1>Football Playoff at this rate. Will any of them win it,
<v Speaker 1>I'm not sure. But if four or five get in,
<v Speaker 1>oh they're taking a big chunk of that playoff money.
<v Speaker 1>Because that is a big chunk for each one of
<v Speaker 1>those teams that makes it. I'm going to give you
<v Speaker 1>another loser, and that is to Tennessee placekicker Max Gilbert,
<v Speaker 1>who missed a forty three yard field goal at the
<v Speaker 1>end of regulation that would have given the Volunteers a
<v Speaker 1>win over number six Georgia, but instead he missed and
<v Speaker 1>Georgia went on to win in overtime. In fact, Max,
<v Speaker 1>you know what, No hold on a second, I'm not
<v Speaker 1>giving a loser to a kicker. I always say it,
<v Speaker 1>and I'm gonna say it again. Kickers and punters are
<v Speaker 1>not football players. Unless you're going out and making tackles
<v Speaker 1>or blocking, you're not a football player. Hey, if you'll
<v Speaker 1>let it come down to a kicker or all bets
<v Speaker 1>are off, take care of business and quit blaming those
<v Speaker 1>poor little nerds. I remember that you should be stopping
<v Speaker 1>by dailydosports dot com every week to check out what
<v Speaker 1>new things we have going on over there. We have
<v Speaker 1>links to the podcast, we have links to new articles
<v Speaker 1>every week, and in fact, this week I took a
<v Speaker 1>look at how those Denver Broncos managed to shoot themselves
<v Speaker 1>in the foot against the Indianapolis Cults. So make sure
<v Speaker 1>you head over and check that out. But you can
<v Speaker 1>also always email the podcast at Dailydowsports at gmail dot com.
<v Speaker 1>And if you need to pick up some Daily Dose gear,
<v Speaker 1>if you need a T shirt, a hoodie, a sweatshirt,
<v Speaker 1>a baseball cap, you can find links to over at
<v Speaker 1>Daily doosports dot com. Make sure you check that out
<v Speaker 1>every single week. Just a few more winners and losers
<v Speaker 1>to hand out in college football, and I'm going to
<v Speaker 1>give a winner to a team that I didn't have
<v Speaker 1>that much hope for, but the USC Trojans. They might
<v Speaker 1>be a little sneakier than expected. Now the Trojans are three.
<v Speaker 1>Oh I know, they haven't beaten anyone. You don't even
<v Speaker 1>have to look, but they are beating who they play
<v Speaker 1>quite easily, and they are showing some signs they might
<v Speaker 1>end up being a little bit dangerous. Head coach Lincoln Riley,
<v Speaker 1>he's kind of got this offense figured out and it's
<v Speaker 1>up to par and we're gonna find out real soon
<v Speaker 1>what USC is made of. Because they play Michigan State
<v Speaker 1>this week. That'll be easy. But then check out those
<v Speaker 1>slate of games. USC has Illinois, Michigan, Notre Dame, and Nebraska,
<v Speaker 1>So we're gonna find out real quick if USC is real.
<v Speaker 1>But they look good so far. Speaking of Notre Dame,
<v Speaker 1>I have to give him a loser because the Fighting
<v Speaker 1>Irish are now zero to two and it's by a
<v Speaker 1>combined four points. After losing that heartbreaker in Week one
<v Speaker 1>to Miami twenty seven to twenty four, the Irish lost
<v Speaker 1>again on Saturday to Texas A and M by a
<v Speaker 1>single point, and that loss could cost them a college
<v Speaker 1>football playoff birth because remember, Notre Dame doesn't have a
<v Speaker 1>conference championship to lift their strength of schedule. Notre Dame
<v Speaker 1>is going to have to be perfect rest of the way,
<v Speaker 1>and they might even need a little help. But they've
<v Speaker 1>had a hard time trying to figure things out against
<v Speaker 1>top competition in those first two weeks. First week, I
<v Speaker 1>didn't think they gave the ball to Jeremiah Love nearly enough.
<v Speaker 1>Second week they gave it to him enough. But A
<v Speaker 1>and M's offense is a problem. They couldn't stop them.
<v Speaker 1>Notre Dame's in a little bit of trouble. Now They've
<v Speaker 1>got to play really well the rest of the way.
<v Speaker 1>We'll give out our final college football winner this week
<v Speaker 1>to a team that is outperforming well at least my expectations,
<v Speaker 1>and that is the Miami Hurricanes. Because all the Miami
<v Speaker 1>Hurricanes have done so far is beat two top twenty
<v Speaker 1>five teams. First they beat number six Notre Dame. Then
<v Speaker 1>they beat number eighteen South Florida, and I fully expect
<v Speaker 1>them to beat Florida this week. Florida's billion aper. His
<v Speaker 1>seat is red hot right now. He can't even sit down.
<v Speaker 1>But you know, I picked Miami to be a playoff team,
<v Speaker 1>but I thought they might maybe slip once in games.
<v Speaker 1>Right now, they're looking strong, and honestly, you could make
<v Speaker 1>a case Miami should probably be in the top five
<v Speaker 1>based on what they've done on the field. They are
<v Speaker 1>definitely a winner, and our final loser can go nowhere else.
<v Speaker 1>It simply must go to Clemson Tigers head coach Dabo
<v Speaker 1>Swinney because the Tigers dropped another game on Saturday, and
<v Speaker 1>this time it was to unrank Georgia Tech. So Clemson
<v Speaker 1>is not one two and remember they had to come
<v Speaker 1>back against Troy to get the one. Clemson quarterback k
<v Speaker 1>Klubnick was expected to be a Heisman candidate. Right now,
<v Speaker 1>he has just three touchdowns and three interceptions. But Clemson's
<v Speaker 1>offense has no playmakers. They're averaging just nineteen points per game.
<v Speaker 1>And don't forget they still have SMU, Florida State, and
<v Speaker 1>South Carolina on that schedule. Now, don't get me wrong,
<v Speaker 1>if they could figure things out, they could still back
<v Speaker 1>the way into the playoff. Hey, just get to the
<v Speaker 1>ACC title game like last year and maybe you could
<v Speaker 1>get in. But right now this doesn't even look fixable
<v Speaker 1>because the Clemson Tigers are just not very good now.
<v Speaker 1>As we do so many weeks here through Dela Dos,
<v Speaker 1>we need to get to our dayly dose Top five.
<v Speaker 1>Like I said at the top of the show, on
<v Speaker 1>Saturday night, Terrence Crawford made some history and placed himself
<v Speaker 1>among the greatest boxers in history. And that might sound
<v Speaker 1>like hyperbole, it isn't, because when Crawford beat Canelo Alvarez
<v Speaker 1>on Saturday, he won his fifth division title. Crawford has
<v Speaker 1>not won titles at lightweight, light welterweight, welterweight, light middleweight,
<v Speaker 1>and on Saturday night he won super middlewaight. But do
<v Speaker 1>you realize that places him on a very shortlist of
<v Speaker 1>fighters with the most division titles. Today, our dealy Dose
<v Speaker 1>Top five is counting down the fighters with the most
<v Speaker 1>titles in history, and you're going to see Crawford does
<v Speaker 1>indeed belong in the conversation among the all time greats.
<v Speaker 1>So let's start off at number five. Wow, and we
<v Speaker 1>actually have kind of a three way tie for number five,
<v Speaker 1>and now with Crawford, this is a four way tie.
<v Speaker 1>But we'll start at number five and we're going to
<v Speaker 1>give this to Thomas the Hitman Hearns, who finished his
<v Speaker 1>career sixty one, five and one. But the star from
<v Speaker 1>Detroit got the first of these five championships back in
<v Speaker 1>nineteen eighty with the TKO finished up a Pinocuavis that
<v Speaker 1>gave him the welterweight title. Two years after that, he
<v Speaker 1>won the super welterweight title against Wilfred Benitez. I was
<v Speaker 1>number two. Hearns defended that title on a few occasions.
<v Speaker 1>Then he moved up to middleweight, super middleweight and light
<v Speaker 1>heavyweight and he found more success. He kept winning and
<v Speaker 1>he put his name in the boxing record books with
<v Speaker 1>five titles he helped throughout his career. But you know,
<v Speaker 1>Thomas Hearns made no physical sense because if you ever
<v Speaker 1>saw him fight, he was tall and skinny, he had
<v Speaker 1>that seventy eight inch reach. Oh so he just stood
<v Speaker 1>outside and beat with the job no, because he had
<v Speaker 1>sledgehammers for hands. Go back and watch him knock Roberto
<v Speaker 1>Duran unconscious. Tommy Hearns was such a dangerous fighter, and
<v Speaker 1>his first round against Marvin Hagler is still the greatest
<v Speaker 1>round of boxing I've ever witnessed in my life. Tommy
<v Speaker 1>Hearns won five different division titles and he comes in
<v Speaker 1>today on our list tied at number five, although I
<v Speaker 1>guess he's actually kind of tied for third. Whatever, Tommy
<v Speaker 1>Hearns is five. Also tied with Hearns at number four
<v Speaker 1>is a guy who fought Tommy twice and did pretty
<v Speaker 1>well against him. Because Sugar Ray Leonard went thirty six,
<v Speaker 1>three and one in his career and he was the
<v Speaker 1>second five division champion now. Sugar Ray won titles from
<v Speaker 1>welterweight to lightheav in nine years from seventy nine to
<v Speaker 1>eighty eight. First, he got a late stoppage against Wilford
<v Speaker 1>Benitez to pick up his very first world championship. He
<v Speaker 1>defended that twice. He went to super welterweight and he
<v Speaker 1>won that in a ninth round stoppage. Leonard's third title
<v Speaker 1>came in eighty seven when he squeaked out a close
<v Speaker 1>split decision over Marvin Hagler that I don't know if
<v Speaker 1>he actually won, and he won the super middleweight and
<v Speaker 1>light heavyweight title as well. Sugar Ray Leonard won five
<v Speaker 1>different titles in five different divisions owned by the Way.
<v Speaker 1>Leonard fought Tommy Hearns in eighty one. He won a
<v Speaker 1>fourteenth round TKO, which is kind of jacked up because
<v Speaker 1>Hearns was actually head on all cards, but Ray heard
<v Speaker 1>him and got him in trouble and now to stop
<v Speaker 1>the fight. The two fight again to a draw in
<v Speaker 1>eighty nine, but both of them were way past their prime.
<v Speaker 1>But Ray Leonard comes in today at number four. At
<v Speaker 1>number three, we have the last fighter that is now
<v Speaker 1>tied with Crawford, Hearns and Leonard, and that is undefeated
<v Speaker 1>superstar Floyd may Weather Junior, who of course retired at
<v Speaker 1>fifty and zher and is considered one of the best
<v Speaker 1>boxes of all time. Of course, Floyd was raised in
<v Speaker 1>the gym. He started his boxing championship run in the
<v Speaker 1>super featherweight class and beat Gennaro Hernandez back in ninety eight.
<v Speaker 1>Mayweather dominated that division for a number of years, and
<v Speaker 1>then he jumped up to higher divisions. He beat Jasei
<v Speaker 1>Castillo back in two thousand and two got the lightweight belt,
<v Speaker 1>then he added the junior welterweight belt after beating Arturo
<v Speaker 1>Gotti in the sixth round, and then he got a
<v Speaker 1>win over Zab Judah and Oscar dal la Joya in
<v Speaker 1>two thousand and six. In two thousand and seven and
<v Speaker 1>became a five division world champion by taking the welterweight
<v Speaker 1>title and super welterweight titles. Hey, there's no question Floyd
<v Speaker 1>is one of the best ever. My only issue I
<v Speaker 1>have with Floyd was that he rarely ever fought great
<v Speaker 1>fighters when they were in their prime. Really smart business
<v Speaker 1>for Floyd, but really bad for boxing. So I probably
<v Speaker 1>hold a grudge for that, but you can't question his greatness.
<v Speaker 1>Floyd Bayweather comes in at number three. Okay, so we've
<v Speaker 1>had three guys, and if you add Crawford, four guys
<v Speaker 1>that have tied with five division titles. At number two,
<v Speaker 1>we have a guy that actually has six. Might surprise
<v Speaker 1>you a little bit, but do not forget the Oscar
<v Speaker 1>de la Joya, who went thirty nine and six. Was
<v Speaker 1>the record holder for most titles in different weight classes
<v Speaker 1>for a number of years, but Dale Joya began to
<v Speaker 1>collect belts in the lower weight classes. First was at
<v Speaker 1>super featherweight. In that same year he beat Jorge Piez
<v Speaker 1>and claimed the whiteweight title. His third belt came at
<v Speaker 1>the expense of Julio Caesar Chavez, where he beat the
<v Speaker 1>Mexican fighter and won the light welterweight title. Well, then
<v Speaker 1>he fought Parnell Whittaker, and that was quite a test actually,
<v Speaker 1>Whitaker gave him all he wanted, but Oscar came out
<v Speaker 1>on top and took the welterweight title. And then he
<v Speaker 1>moved up one more weight class and challenged Javier Castelejo
<v Speaker 1>in June of two thousand and one and won the
<v Speaker 1>light middleweight belt. Three years later, he set the record
<v Speaker 1>when he got his sixth division title by beating Felix
<v Speaker 1>Sterm to earn the middleweight title. Hagler, Hearns, Leonard, and
<v Speaker 1>Mayweber all tied at number five. Now, hey, I wasn't
<v Speaker 1>surprised by any of them, but you kind of forget
<v Speaker 1>about Oscar de la Joya, but he had six titles.
<v Speaker 1>He comes in today at number two. So he reached
<v Speaker 1>the fighter that has held more division titles than anyone
<v Speaker 1>in history, and we've got a clear cut winner because
<v Speaker 1>Filipino sports icon Manny Pacquiao, who finished his career sixty
<v Speaker 1>two eight and two, started as a flyweight back in
<v Speaker 1>ninety eight. He won that title. He picked up super
<v Speaker 1>bantamweight in two thousand and one. Then he beat Marco
<v Speaker 1>Antonio Barrera and Juan Manuel Marquez to get the featherweight
<v Speaker 1>and super featherweight divisions. He wasn't done. Manny Pacquiao won
<v Speaker 1>division titles at flyweight, junior featherweight, featherweight, junior lightweight, lightweight,
<v Speaker 1>your welterweight, welterweight, and junior middleweight to give him eight
<v Speaker 1>titles in all. Manny Pakiow comes in today at number one,
<v Speaker 1>and he's too ahead of the next closest guy now.
<v Speaker 1>Is holding the most titles a true measurement of the
<v Speaker 1>greatest fighter ever? No, I don't think it is, but
<v Speaker 1>it does show you the versatility and determination and ability
<v Speaker 1>to adapt to fighting different styles at different times in
<v Speaker 1>their careers. I told you earlier. Terrence Crawford's win does
<v Speaker 1>at least place him in the conversation among the greatest
<v Speaker 1>fighters ever, and our Daily Dose Top five today proves
<v Speaker 1>that is absolutely true. Hey, next week on the Dose,
