today's commentary, all right, And from there we will close out with a

a flat back the type of commentary dealing with the prophet Isaiah a man.

So we'll just go through this, all right. The title of this commentary

is Tunnel Vision Isaiah. In the year that king Isziah Isaiah died, I

saw the Lord seated on a throne high and exalted, and in the train

of his robe, filled with the Temple, filled the Temple. The Book

of Isaiah, chapter six, verse one. He lay perfectly still, trying

to remember where he had been when the vision started. As the vivid,

almost painful scenes replaced in his mind, he shuddered. Excitement and terror flowed

through him. Years had passed, but the memory and the associated feelings were

as wrong as during his original experience. Then he had been in the temple

alone, and yet not alone at all, for the vision had plunged him

into God's presence. God didn't arrive, he had been there the entire time.

Isaiah suddenly realized that the Grand Temple was little more than a container to

hold the train of the Robe of the Holy One of Israel. After the

vision, Isaiah had lain prostrate on the marble floor, afraid to even move

yet again, Isaiah tenttively touched his lips with his tongue, expecting to feel

blisters. The angel so long ago had approached him with a glowing coal and

placed it on his mouth, But instead of the searing pain of burn,

Isaiah had experienced a deep warmth of forgiveness that had flowed into the roots of

his soul. That gracious act brought the results of that counted to sharp focus.

The old prophet's eyes flew open, and he sat up over on the

crude table. The leather scroll lay open where he had left it late the

previous night. He glanced at the quills and ink pot, anxious that he

might have forgotten to care for them in his exhaustion. In his exhaustion,

the neat line of pens and the sealed ink brought a smile to his leather

cheeks to his face. That was not his doing. She had quietly tidied

up after him. Again, he stood, letting his ancient joints ease into

duty for another day. His eyes fell on the last words he had written

before aches and tiredness had overtaken him. There will be peace and security in

my lifetime. The Book of Isaiah, chapter thirty nine, verse eight.

King Hezekiah's words had filled Isaiah with sadness. Now he saw them as a

turning point. As he bowed his head for a morning prayer, Isaiah knew

that the scroll must now be filled with words for the future. He also

realized why God had once again filled his sleeping hours with scenes from that shattering

and decisive moment when he had first seen the Lord in the temple, God

has sent him with a message that would not be heard by most of his

audience. He bore news that could have changed the present but now, but

would actually make a difference in the future. He had advised, warned,

and rallied, rallied against injustice and sin in his own name, But his

message would be safe to fulfill its ultimate purpose in latter times. Tiredness ebbed

away, Isaiah settled himself once again on the stool. Anxious to start.

The aged prophet opened the ink pot, dip the quill, and began to

write. Comfort, Comfort my people, says our God, says your God,

the Book of Isaiah, chapter forty, verse one. As the words

began to flow, he wondered whether those who read his words would be as

comforted as he was in writing them. Amen, back to the future.

What have you concluded about God's purposes in your own life? How do the

people around you know that you're committed to God for the long run? How

would you describe the most compelling of you or vision of God that shapes your

decisions and actions. The story continues to learn about Isaiah's background as Israel's one

of Israel's greatest prophets. Read the Second King's chapter nineteen, verses two all

the way to Second Kings Chapter twenty verse nineteen, along with the Book of

Isaiah itself chapter six through twelve, are a good place to start. Amen.
