So today's message, we will go through this commentary within the Book of Judges,

all right, and then from there we would close out with a prayer.

We would close out with a priestly blessing, and we would close out

giving all the praise, honor, glory to the most hot God of Abraham

Amen? Halleluj y'all. So here we go Today's Bible reading the Book of

Judges chapter eleven, verses twenty nine through forty. Recommended reading the Book of

Numbers chapter thirty, verses one through two, the Book of Proverbs chapter sixteen,

verse three, and also the Book of Matthew chapter five, verses thirty

three through thirty. The title of this commentary is wordsmith All right, here

we go. Words are everywhere. We're bombarded by words every day, radio,

TV, billboards, newspapers, magazines, contracts, email, school projects,

et cetera, et cetera. We use words to write list, letters,

proposals, and emails. And we use words to communicate with our spouse,

children, employer, clients, and friends, as well as with God

and even in our own personal reflections. A wise person once said, familiarity

breeds contempt. That might be true of words as well. We've grown so

accustomed to some words that they've lost their meaning. For example, what does

the phrase big sale mean retail outlets anymore? President's Day Sale, Christmas in

July Anniversary sale. Retailers are getting more and more creative as they dream up

reasons to declare that they've slashed their prices, and political rhetoric broadcast twenty four

hours a day on cable news network rings hollow in our ears as well.

The same is certainly true of promises that we make with no intention of keeping,

whether we be, whether they be directed to ourselves, to others,

or to God. Jeftha, the mighty warrior and commander of Israel's army,

made a vow that he would sacrifice whatever came through his door upon his return

if God were to allow him to try up over the Ammonites, and God

kept this end of the bargain. Upon Jeffah's return, his daughter greeted him

as she danced through the doorway. Can you imagine an inner turmoil, the

emotional wrestling, the mental games Jephtha must have played to try to escape this

predicament. Would anyone have thought less of him if he hadn't fulfilled his promise?

This was his daughter, his only child. But all evidence in this

story indicates that Jephtha was a man of his word. He made a promise

and he keep it. Words may not mean much to us, but they

can mean a lot to God and God's eyes. A promise as a promise.

Ecclesiastics, Chapter five, verses fourth through five expresses it this way.

When you make a vow to God, do not delay in fulfilling it.

He has no pleasure in fools. Fulfill your vow. It is better not

to vow than to make a vow and not fulfill it. In other words,

keep your word mean what you say to God. Consider for a moment

the promises you've made to God. What commitments have you made regarding your time,

money, future, gifts and talents? Have you kept your end of

these bargains God has? Have you kept your word? Amen? Things that

take away from the commentary What promises have you failed to keep for which you

need to ask God for forgiveness? You need to ask for God's forgiveness?

What factors make it hard for you to keep your promises or sometimes cause you

to break your promises? In what ways? Has God been faithful and keeping

his promises to you? All? Right? So there you have it?

All right? That is the commentary for today. Okay. It was based

on Jeff though the mighty man of Israel. He went to war, defeated

the Ammonites, and he kept his word with God, saying, hey,

if you deliver these enemies in my hand, that I was sacrificed whatever comes

out of my house, you know. And his daughter came out, and

his daughter was the only child he had, so that was very hurtful and

painful for him to do that. But in the law of Moses, it

was a commandment to you know, keep your word. You know, if

you make a vow to the Lord, you gotta do it. So being

a man of your word was a commandment. So what I'll love to do

regarding this reading of this commentary, I would like to read it thoroughly through

the scripture. Okay, so we're going to go through the Book of Judges,

chapter eleven, verses twenty nine through forty. All right, Then the

spirit of the Lord came upon Jephtha. He crossed the lead and Manassa.

Manasse passed through misput of glead, and from there he advanced against the Ammonites.

And Jeffa made a vow to the Lord, if you give them Emmonites

into my hands, whatever comes out of the door of my house to meet

me when I return, and triumph from the Eemonites will be the Lord words,

and I would sacrifice it as a burnt offering. Then Jephtha went over

to fight the Ammonites, and the Lord gave him into his hands. He

devastated twenty towns from Aroor to the vicinity of manith As far As Abel,

Karim, Karamim. Thus Israel subdued Aman. When Jephtha returned to his home

and Mizpah, who should come out to meet him but his daughter, dancing

to the sound of tambourines. She was an only child. Except for her,

he had neither son nor daughter. When he saw her, he tore

his clothes and cried, oh, my daughter, you have made me miserable

and wretch because I have made a vow to the Lord that I cannot break.

My father, she replied, you have given your word to the Lord.

Do to me just as you promised, now that the Lord has avenged

you of your enemies, the Ammonites. But grant me this one request,

she said, Give me two months to roam the hills and weep with my

friends, because I will never marry. You. May go, he said,

and he let her go for two months. She and the girls went

to the hills and wept because she would never marry. After the two months,

she returned to her father, and he did to her as he had

vowed, and she was a virgin. For this comes the Israelit custom that

each year the young women of Israel go out for four days to commemorate the

daughter of Jephtha, the Giladite. Galadite. All right, so I would

like to also read the recommended scriptures according to this. Okay, so let's

go to the Book of Numbers, chapter thirty, verse one through two.

Vows. Moses said to the heads of the tribes of Israel, this is

what the Lord commands. When a man makes a vow to the Lord or

takes an od to obligate himself by a pledge. He must not break his

word, but must do everything he said. All right, now, let

us go to the Book of Proverbs, chapter sixteen, verse three. Commit

to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed. And in

other translations of Proverbs sixteen verse three, it'll probably say like, commit your

works to the Lord, and let your steps be established, and let your

thoughts be established. So you know, similar concepts are right. Now,

let us go to the Book of Matthew, chapter five, verses thirty three

through thirty seven. So what the Messiah said regarding oats and pledges or your

word, it would have you. Okay, again, you have heard that

it was said to the people long ago. Do not break your oath,

but keep the oaths you have made to the Lord. But I tell you,

do not swear at all, either by heaven, for it is God's

throne, or by the earth, for it is his footstool, or by

Jerusalem, or is the city of the Great King. And do not swear

by your head, for you cannot make even one hair white or black.

Simply let your yes be yes, and your no no. Anything beyond this

comes from the evil one. Amen. Okay. So even the Messiah addressed

us. You know, the Messiah understood that a lot of cases people would

really keep their word or what have your certain situations, you know. And

the clear example of that was when the Messiah was going through betrayal, and

Peter said, would never deny y'all, would never, but I would never

leave you, nothing like that. And when the time came, when push

come to shove, you know, Peter folded up, you know what I

mean. And as I even told Peter that, hey, you know,

when the rooster crowds three times, you know you're gonna deny me three times

and then the rooster of a crowd, you know. So as you know,

keeping your word and making vows and stuff, man, it's very important

and powerful, you know what I mean. And we gotta be careful and

things we say and how we go about commitment. You know, if you're

not going to even do it or go through with it, don't even bring

it up or say it, you know what I'm saying. And many of

us in our lifetime, me you, we've all at one point failed our

own words, you know what I mean. We're all full of it.

At one point, you know what I'm saying. We'll be like, oh

yeah, I'm gonna do this. I got you this and that, and

it never came through, or people do that to us vice versa. You

know, that's just human nature, that's just life that happens. That's why

even in the Lord's prayer that Matthew six six, you know, just forgive

us our depth, we forgive our debtors, because along the way, people

haven't kept their word towards us, and we have our word towards each other,

you know. So we got to always have that forgiveness and mercy and

grace about everything, and that patience and kindness understanding with guarding other people's interactions

and how they go about their words or what have you. You you know

what I mean. And we just got to be more understanding and patient regarding

things and not expect too much out of people, you know what I mean,

because everybody has different agendas, different attentions. At the end of the

day, you might meet a real few people, a few real people who

really keep their worder or even go beyond it, but in most cases it's

not always the case, you know what I mean. So all when we

make things to the Lord, we commit things, we got to do our

part for God. You know. God wants us to be more honest,

have better honest scales, you know what I mean. God hates a God

hates a lying scale, He hates abomination, he hates dishonest scales. You

know. Proverbs tells us that, So we got to be more honest with

ourselves, be more honest with God, and be more honest with people.

You know, the times we en people a lot more disingenuous than ever.

People are not really sincere, you know. And you got to say,

we're in perilous times, okay, we're the days of Noah. So we

know that God's word is pure Amen. And we know that the Lord's word

is what stands forever. And we know that God's words are forever. Having

the earth joall pass away, but God's word forever, Amen. And God's

word fails not Amen. We got to remind ourselves of that, okay,

So always just keep in mind of that, all right. So that was

the commentary within the Book of Judges, you know, keeping your word and

doing your part and so forth and so forth. We got to apply to

start our lives and make better choices with this. Ain'mmen. Now what I
