<v Speaker 2>It features two famous and very gorgeous rachel's Rachel McAdams

<v Speaker 2>in London. In the movie, the two had a teenage

<v Speaker 2>romance that ended because one of them left the you know,

<v Speaker 2>close knit little community. This could be traumatic. Did you

<v Speaker 2>grow up religious and or are you still religious?

<v Speaker 1>I'm extremely religious now, honestly, like I'm so religious.

<v Speaker 1>Uh No, we didn't grow up very religious. They my

<v Speaker 1>family is. They're Catholic. But the only one that was

<v Speaker 1>super religious was my grandma because she would like pray

<v Speaker 1>a lot and everything else. But it wasn't like she

<v Speaker 1>was trying to get everybody to be Catholic and like

<v Speaker 1>very religious as well. She just had like that's like

<v Speaker 1>the most religious thing, and she had a lot of

<v Speaker 1>like Jesus and Virgin Mary Saints and like all these

<v Speaker 1>like like stuff everywhere. Yeah, and I still have some

<v Speaker 1>of her stuff, so like part of my thing looks

<v Speaker 1>like the middle part of it is just very like religious,

<v Speaker 1>and then the rest of my shelf so like in

<v Speaker 1>your yeah, I think it's like all her stuff. But no,

<v Speaker 1>my we did go to church a couple of times,

<v Speaker 1>but we never like went frequently, nor was I like

<v Speaker 1>told to pray a lot or anything or you know,

<v Speaker 1>then when it got to me, they were gonna baptize me.

<v Speaker 1>tried to do when I was a teenager, but I

<v Speaker 1>are baptized either, so I'm like, it doesn't really yeah,

<v Speaker 2>So, actually, my mom's dad, my paternal grandpa, was a

<v Speaker 2>preacher in the Church of Christ, which is I don't

<v Speaker 2>know if I would say famously, but it's pretty like

<v Speaker 2>known that they hate the gays. It's pretty anti LGBT.

<v Speaker 2>So it was interesting because when I came out, he

<v Speaker 2>was still alive, but my mom said, don't tell Papa

<v Speaker 2>void and he actually died like a year later, so

<v Speaker 2>I didn't really have to tell him. But anyway, I

<v Speaker 2>went to that church when I was like little, but

<v Speaker 2>my mom wasn't that into it, so there would be

<v Speaker 2>like periods of time where we would go.

<v Speaker 3>Yeah, I just I don't. I don't believe in God.

<v Speaker 2>I remember thinking that at some point we were going

<v Speaker 2>to it was gonna be revealed that like it was

<v Speaker 2>like Santa right, like this isn't real. That never happened.

<v Speaker 2>Then I found out that people really do believe in God.

<v Speaker 2>So I was like surprised, like honest to goodness, surprised

<v Speaker 2>because I thought that it seemed like like a fairy tale.

<v Speaker 1>I like, even as at a young age, you were

<v Speaker 1>just like this is yeah.

<v Speaker 2>I thought we were like going through the motions like

<v Speaker 2>this is Easter Bunny, there's Santa, there's Jesus.

<v Speaker 3>I didn't get it.

<v Speaker 2>I was like what I mean, I realized like oh,

<v Speaker 2>because my my parents would say they believed in Tanna, right.

<v Speaker 2>But then as you get older, they're like no, like

<v Speaker 2>of course not, yeah that didn't really happen.

<v Speaker 2>So anyway, it is interesting because as I get older,

<v Speaker 2>not that I am religious at all, Like I don't

<v Speaker 2>really think that there is necessarily like a God or

<v Speaker 2>some sort of like higher being, but I do think

<v Speaker 2>that there is something like after you die, which is

<v Speaker 2>like for a long time in my atheism. I was like,

<v Speaker 2>nothing happens when you die, Like there's just nothing. And

<v Speaker 2>then I remembered my grandpa, not the Preacher, one different

<v Speaker 2>grandpa when he died because he had a heart attack

<v Speaker 2>or something, and then they brought him back to life.

<v Speaker 2>He said that he was in this peaceful place and

<v Speaker 2>he saw his brother and dah da da, and he

<v Speaker 2>was like upset that they brought him back. And then

<v Speaker 2>when he actually like for real died like years later. Yeah,

<v Speaker 2>he was talking to his brother that had died years before,

<v Speaker 2>and my grandma saw him like and he's like, yeah,

<v Speaker 2>he's right there, like blah blah blah. And it's like, yeah,

<v Speaker 2>you could attribute that to like he's probably on a

<v Speaker 2>lot of drugs because he was on hospital. Yeah, But

<v Speaker 2>also I do think there's something to be said for

<v Speaker 2>there being some sort of like an afterlife. And I

<v Speaker 2>like to hope, right, I hope that I hope that

<v Speaker 2>my animals that have passed are with my grammy because

<v Speaker 2>she was such a huge animal lover, and I hope that,

<v Speaker 2>you know, there's a place. She would always tell me, like,

<v Speaker 2>there has to be a heaven for animals, Caitlin, because

<v Speaker 2>I think in the Bible something says that there.

<v Speaker 3>Isn't for animals, like animals are not like humans. But

<v Speaker 3>she was always like that, she's like for animals.

<v Speaker 2>Yeah, so I always hope that there is some sort

<v Speaker 2>of afterlife and my Grammy is there with all of

<v Speaker 2>her Chihuahas and poodles and all and all of my

<v Speaker 2>babies and to take care of them. But yeah, but

<v Speaker 2>get older, I am more like, oh, I think that

<v Speaker 2>But I'm not religious and I've never been a church person. Yeah,

<v Speaker 2>or burning desire that you want to share about this movie?

<v Speaker 3>I'm dying to know.

<v Speaker 1>Okay, So, as we were talking earlier, when this movie

<v Speaker 1>first came out, I was definitely on all the comments,

<v Speaker 1>all the reviews of it, and a lot of people

<v Speaker 1>that surprised me. They thought that a very famous the

<v Speaker 1>spinning scene was super explicit shouldn't happen. It was disgusting,

<v Speaker 1>but I really enjoyed it. So that could be a

<v Speaker 1>hot take to you know, other people. What's what's your

<v Speaker 1>hot take?

<v Speaker 3>Yeah?

<v Speaker 2>Okay, Well I said, this movie is so fucking good.

<v Speaker 2>It goes against my usual hatred of movies directed by men.

<v Speaker 2>It's a man, A straight man directed this, and I

<v Speaker 2>was shocked because I do not think that that sex

<v Speaker 2>scene was like too much. I think that it was

<v Speaker 2>pretty realistic. Obviously, not everybody spits in each other's mouth.

<v Speaker 2>But I liked that there was this like kink factor

<v Speaker 2>because I think that we also, like we don't want

<v Speaker 2>to over sexualize lesbian sex scenes, but also I don't

<v Speaker 2>think we want to sanitize them to be like, oh,

<v Speaker 2>they're just like so chaste and they're just like lah

<v Speaker 2>like no, like they're getting like down and dirty like

<v Speaker 2>and so I liked it. And then when I looked

<v Speaker 2>it up and it was directed by a straight man,

<v Speaker 2>I was very surprised because I feel like he did

<v Speaker 2>a really good job. I don't feel like it was creepy,

<v Speaker 2>like blue is the warmest color. I don't feel like

<v Speaker 2>he exploited them, And I have not heard anything. I mean,

<v Speaker 2>hopefully they had some sort of an intimacy coordinator as well,

<v Speaker 2>must but yeah, I.

<v Speaker 3>Thought the sex scene was very realistic.

<v Speaker 2>Another thing that I liked about the sex scene was

<v Speaker 2>that Rachel McAdams kept like her top on. Yeah, but

<v Speaker 2>we do see her boobs at another point in the scene.

<v Speaker 2>But I do wonder if it's like in the contract,

<v Speaker 2>a totally different setting and we see Rachel Weiss, who

<v Speaker 2>is named Roneite in her photography studio and she's photographing

<v Speaker 2>heavily tattooed elderly people. So that's cool.

<v Speaker 3>I think they're trying to show she does kind of

<v Speaker 3>edgy things. I don't know.

<v Speaker 2>So someone else that works in the building calls to

<v Speaker 2>her and calls her Ronnie. So she goes by Ronnie now,

<v Speaker 2>but we find out that her name is Ronite, that's

<v Speaker 2>what everyone at home calls her. And the person is like,

<v Speaker 2>you need to speak to this man, Ronnie and then

<v Speaker 2>they don't show what happens next, and then we cut

<v Speaker 2>to seeing her in a bar getting drunk and then

<v Speaker 2>having sex with a man in the bathroom, and it

<v Speaker 2>was just funny because my wife was like, I thought

<v Speaker 2>this was a lesbian movie. I was like, I think

<v Speaker 2>she's by I think maybe, like not everyone's a lesbian.

<v Speaker 2>There's just there's a gay love story. But anyway, it

<v Speaker 2>was just funny because she's.

<v Speaker 3>Like, oh, she's.

<v Speaker 1>In the bathroom.

<v Speaker 2>we weren't expecting you. And she goes to hug him,

<v Speaker 2>probably because she's a woman and he's married.

<v Speaker 2>he keeps saying like you are free. It's obvious he's

<v Speaker 2>And st cries and then he says, I can't accept

<v Speaker 1>the history of but, butch, but but and fem labels,

<v Speaker 1>as well as discussed different staffag sexual preferences and the

<v Speaker 1>names for them, because I clearly don't know how to

<v Speaker 1>say it, so educate me.

<v Speaker 2>That's funny because sometimes I try to write butch and

<v Speaker 2>my phone auto corrects it to bitch.

<v Speaker 1>I try to write bitch and it corrects it to bud.

<v Speaker 3>That's so funny.

<v Speaker 2>Okay, So this is a really good exciting topic for

<v Speaker 2>me and probably for other gays.

<v Speaker 3>I don't know.

<v Speaker 2>I think it's interesting. I'm excited to share my experience

<v Speaker 2>because I love to talk about my experiences because I'm

<v Speaker 2>a Leo Resi and I don't know. I want to

<v Speaker 2>hear yours, and I want to talk about some things

<v Speaker 2>that I learned. So I think I will start with

<v Speaker 2>saying I first heard the terms butcher and fem when

<v Speaker 2>I was a teenager, so like early two thousands.

<v Speaker 3>But this was also like an era of like, no,

<v Speaker 3>don't label yourself. You're putting yourself in a box, you know, So.

<v Speaker 2>It was kind of to me, at least the people

<v Speaker 2>I was around people didn't use those labels. I have

<v Speaker 2>always really only been attracted to more masculine presenting lesbians,

<v Speaker 2>but I've never dated someone that specifically like said I'm

<v Speaker 2>a butcher, I'm a mask or whatever. I see it

<v Speaker 2>a lot with older and younger lesbians.

<v Speaker 3>It just I don't know. My era was very like

<v Speaker 3>we don't use labels.

<v Speaker 2>I think it was because it was also the era

<v Speaker 2>of like, if you are into something, you have to

<v Speaker 2>like prove that you're not a poser.

<v Speaker 1>Oh my god, the type of things.

<v Speaker 3>I thought that part of where the like no labels

<v Speaker 3>came from.

<v Speaker 2>Anyway, Also, I very much identified with the term lipstick

<v Speaker 2>lesbian at that time, which is so it's such a

<v Speaker 2>silly term because it seems like it's saying most lesbians

<v Speaker 2>don't wear lipstick, so you're like lipstick lesbians.

<v Speaker 3>I think a lot of lesbians wear lipstick. Yeah.

<v Speaker 2>Anyway, point being, this is all interesting to me, and

<v Speaker 2>so we'll get into the history. So butch and fem

<v Speaker 2>identities have always existed, but the specific terms seem to

<v Speaker 2>have become prevalent in the US in the nineteen forties.

<v Speaker 2>So butch's often had to present feminine during the work

<v Speaker 2>week and then could dress more masculine at bars on

<v Speaker 2>the weekends. So in the fifties, more women started to

<v Speaker 2>become full time butches, so they were like refusing to

<v Speaker 2>dress more feminine to like fit in at like a

<v Speaker 2>desk job or whatever, and something interesting that I didn't

<v Speaker 2>know a lot about until I watched If These Walls

<v Speaker 2>Could Talk Too, which we're gonna do an episode on.

<v Speaker 2>But it's really hard to find it anywhere I know,

<v Speaker 2>so probably gonna have to buy.

<v Speaker 3>It on DVD.

<v Speaker 2>But in like the sixties and seventies, in second wave feminism,

<v Speaker 2>there was this huge pushback against butch lesbians or any

<v Speaker 2>more masculine presenting lesbians because it was like viewed as

<v Speaker 2>like you're trying to like be a man or something,

<v Speaker 2>and it's like so misunderstood. There are people that were

<v Speaker 2>butch lesbians and did transition, but there are also people

<v Speaker 2>that are butch lesbians and strongly identify as women. It's

<v Speaker 2>there are different ways to present and like I've said before,

<v Speaker 2>you can be masculine without being a man or wanting

<v Speaker 2>to be a man, and you can be attracted to

<v Speaker 2>masculinity without wanting to be with a man. Yeah, so

<v Speaker 2>I think it's very interesting. So the criticism that many

<v Speaker 2>butchers met with then in the sixties and seventies and

<v Speaker 2>still now is that whole like trying to be men

<v Speaker 2>thing and butchers have always subverted societal expectations of womanhood

<v Speaker 2>by expressing themselves through masculinity, and fems have always been

<v Speaker 2>more than just feminine women. Femmes subvert expectations by expressing

<v Speaker 2>femininity outside of patriarchal ideas. So sometimes something that I'll

<v Speaker 2>see is people identifying as like hyper fem or like

<v Speaker 2>dressing extremely feminine to the point where it's like this

<v Speaker 2>is obviously to me for other girls and.

<v Speaker 3>So so yeah, so it's it's interesting.

<v Speaker 2>It's just it's just a different type of energy and

<v Speaker 2>performance of gender.

<v Speaker 1>Right.

<v Speaker 3>Gender is a social construct. If you guys didn't know that.

<v Speaker 2>Gender and sex are different, we can talk about that

<v Speaker 2>another day. So, as many of you know what, butch

<v Speaker 2>is mainly used in white culture, and stud is mainly

<v Speaker 2>used in Black culture for a masculine leaning lesbian. The

<v Speaker 2>term stud can be traced back to the sixties and

<v Speaker 2>should not be used by non black masculine presenting women

<v Speaker 2>to describe themselves. I've seen a lot of people do this,

<v Speaker 2>and I hopefully on accident, I think that a lot

<v Speaker 2>of what I've seen is stem, which is like stud femme,

<v Speaker 2>so like a butchy theeme.

<v Speaker 1>Like in between what the.

<v Speaker 2>Of course, which I always thought butch meant fat butch,

<v Speaker 2>but apparently it also means that I've seen fat butchers

<v Speaker 2>in the early two thousands using themselves anyway, point being,

<v Speaker 2>you shouldn't be using stem if you're white because it

<v Speaker 2>involves stud and stud refers to black lesbians.

<v Speaker 3>So I also thought this was interesting. I tried to

<v Speaker 3>find like a more.

<v Speaker 2>Like specific history for the term mask, because literally I've

<v Speaker 2>never heard that term until TikTok, but I feel like

<v Speaker 2>it describes the type of people that I've attracted to

<v Speaker 2>more than butch, because when I see people that identify

<v Speaker 2>as masks, they are often basically I would say, like

<v Speaker 2>a soft butch, like when I think of butch, and

<v Speaker 2>a lot of women that identify as butch, it is

<v Speaker 2>often like blue collar worker, short hair, button ups, which

<v Speaker 2>I am also attracted to. But I also be into

<v Speaker 2>like a golden retriever mask type of vibe.

<v Speaker 3>So so it's interesting.

<v Speaker 2>So I can't find a specific history of the term mask.

<v Speaker 2>It's just been really popularized recently, and I thought that

<v Speaker 2>was interesting. And so there are so many other identifiers

<v Speaker 2>that have developed within these different terms such as like

<v Speaker 2>a chopstick lesbian, Like I said, middle of a lipstick lesbian.

<v Speaker 3>That no one uses that term anymore that.

<v Speaker 2>I know of, but in the early two thousands that

<v Speaker 2>was just like a fem lesbian. And so maybe in

<v Speaker 2>another episode we can go into like some of these

<v Speaker 2>other specific identities. But I really want to talk about

<v Speaker 2>sexual preferences and sexual identity in this segment because it's something.

<v Speaker 3>That I see people like mix up a lot.

<v Speaker 2>They mix up like if someone is a top, then

<v Speaker 2>they must be butch, or if someone is butch, they

<v Speaker 2>must be a top, and things like that, and I

<v Speaker 2>think that that is weird and.

<v Speaker 3>Wrong, so I want to talk about it.

<v Speaker 2>So Okay, Another thing I think is interesting, which I

<v Speaker 2>think I've kind of talked about. When I was younger,

<v Speaker 2>I never heard queer women say top or bottom. I

<v Speaker 2>only heard gay men say that. I've literally only heard

<v Speaker 2>it within the last ten years. Maybe, but I do

<v Speaker 2>feel that people naturally like identified in a certain way,

<v Speaker 2>but it was never said, like, I never had the term.

<v Speaker 3>Top or bottom.

<v Speaker 2>But I have also never been with a partner that

<v Speaker 2>would want me to top them in those terms, So

<v Speaker 2>I guess I've just been lucky. But I have only

<v Speaker 2>found tops, and I was not being specific and asking

<v Speaker 2>for them. So a top is someone that takes a

<v Speaker 2>more dominant role in sex. That is often while I

<v Speaker 2>laughed at this, my wife laughed at this, But it's true, Okay,

<v Speaker 2>often the giver of penetration, not always. A bottom is

<v Speaker 2>a more passive role and is often a receiver of penetration,

<v Speaker 2>not always. A switch is versatile to both a stone

<v Speaker 2>top or a touch me not is someone that prefers

<v Speaker 2>to only give and not receive any stone bottom or

<v Speaker 2>a pillow princess is someone that prefers to receive and

<v Speaker 2>not give. So like, I think there's a lot of

<v Speaker 2>confusion that people have where people will be like they

<v Speaker 2>think a bottom and a pillow princess are the same thing,

<v Speaker 2>and they're not. I I am a bottom, right, I

<v Speaker 2>feel like I basically said that without saying it, but

<v Speaker 2>not a pillow princess. And there's nothing wrong with being

<v Speaker 2>a pillow princess. But I'm not that, and I want

<v Speaker 2>people to understand that. And I've had like in the past,

<v Speaker 2>when I would go get my nails done by like

<v Speaker 2>a straight woman, she would say like, oh, well, obviously,

<v Speaker 2>you you don't do anything to your girlfriend. She's not

<v Speaker 2>my wife because like you have nails and I'm like,

<v Speaker 2>well we have other body parts now. And also there

<v Speaker 2>are things that lesbians qualify as sex that don't involve penetration,

<v Speaker 2>and did you know like that, Like.

<v Speaker 3>I don't know how do I describe this.

<v Speaker 2>I mean, I'm gonna say, like a lot of people

<v Speaker 2>come from things happening to their clit with nothing being

<v Speaker 2>inside of them. So I'm just saying there are things

<v Speaker 2>that bottom stew that pillar princesses don't do. My understanding

<v Speaker 2>is pillar princesses don't do any of those things, and

<v Speaker 2>stonetops don't want to see any of those things. Therefore

<v Speaker 2>they're like a perfect match match made in heaven.

<v Speaker 3>Yeah, exactly. Yeah.

<v Speaker 2>Another thing that I think is you know interesting, is

<v Speaker 2>there is like this weird when I talk about like

<v Speaker 2>toxic masculinity within lesbianism or within like queer women, something.

<v Speaker 3>That I see a lot is this weird?

<v Speaker 2>Like somehow people that identify as tops like oftentimes talk

<v Speaker 2>down about bottoms.

<v Speaker 3>And I will never understand this because don't you need

<v Speaker 3>a bottom? Like if you're like I've just love Yeah,

<v Speaker 3>I'm like I'm confused.

<v Speaker 2>Yeah, so I don't understand that, but yeah, it's a

<v Speaker 2>if you are a top, you probably need somebody that

<v Speaker 2>is a switch or bottom, right, So I don't get Yeah,

<v Speaker 2>And uh, I really want to talk about this because

<v Speaker 2>I've been seeing so much stuff online where people just

<v Speaker 2>assume that if someone is a butcher, a stud, that

<v Speaker 2>that means that they're all always a top or they're

<v Speaker 2>a stone top. And then when they hook up with

<v Speaker 2>someone that is more masculine presenting and they're okay with receiving,

<v Speaker 2>they're like, that's weird.

<v Speaker 3>That gives me the eck.

<v Speaker 2>And I'm like, oh, I'm sorry, Like you can't just

<v Speaker 2>assume what somebody wants.

<v Speaker 3>You have to talk to them, We have.

<v Speaker 1>To communicate, yeah, my grown.

<v Speaker 3>Ups, Like, I don't know, it's just so weird to me.

<v Speaker 2>And also something you know, I've seen as people saying
