<v Speaker 1>Welcome to But I'm a Lesbian, the podcast where we
<v Speaker 1>serve all battye SaaS, queer film reviews, and everything in between.
<v Speaker 1>Whether you're a baby gay or a.
<v Speaker 2>Queer elder, we're here, We're queer, and we're diving deep
<v Speaker 2>into all things lesbian. We're your hosts, Caitlin and Angelina.
<v Speaker 2>Get ready for some Sapphix seratonin. Okay, this week we
<v Speaker 2>are discussing another early two thousand's favorite. Yeah, I can't
<v Speaker 2>think straight. So this film debut in two thousand and eight,
<v Speaker 2>which is technically the year that I graduated high school.
<v Speaker 2>I was going to explain the whole story of why
<v Speaker 2>it's only technically, but we don't need to know. But
<v Speaker 2>that's all that's technically, guys, a year that I should
<v Speaker 2>have graduated high school, but it happened different. And it
<v Speaker 2>stars Lisa Ray and Shira and Cheth. So this movie
<v Speaker 2>is loosely based on the writer and director's love story
<v Speaker 2>with her wife. So the writer director is named Shamim Sariff.
<v Speaker 2>This is she wrote it about basically her love story
<v Speaker 2>but changed a few things. So it made me think,
<v Speaker 2>if you were to make a movie based off of
<v Speaker 2>your love story, Angelina would you cast as leads? And
<v Speaker 2>would you make a cameo in it?
<v Speaker 1>Okay, so this is not accurate in terms of look,
<v Speaker 1>and it's just because I like these two people, and
<v Speaker 1>I mentioned before one of them was like my crush,
<v Speaker 1>and this one I feel like you're gonna think as well.
<v Speaker 1>So for me, obviously, i'd pick Angelina Jolie. Oh my god, yes,
<v Speaker 1>that's right, like we have like, oh my god, we
<v Speaker 1>already have the same name. Yeah, she doesn't need to like,
<v Speaker 1>you know. And then for Yami's part, I would pick
<v Speaker 1>Alice Braga.
<v Speaker 2>Who's that she is?
<v Speaker 1>I don't know if you remember when it was like
<v Speaker 1>do you have like a crush?
<v Speaker 2>And I never looked up what she looked like.
<v Speaker 1>Okay, i'll show you after.
<v Speaker 2>But she's hot and she is if anyone that doesn't know,
<v Speaker 2>and she has.
<v Speaker 1>A Brazilian girlfriend. Oh yes, so cool. I would make
<v Speaker 1>a cameo in it, but i'd probably just be like,
<v Speaker 1>you know when they do like you're at a store,
<v Speaker 1>you're the cashier something like that, you know what I mean?
<v Speaker 2>Yes, Okay, I love that. I would Okay, but being
<v Speaker 2>a cashier thing is so funny because I feel like
<v Speaker 2>Stephen King likes to make cameos in movies and shows
<v Speaker 2>that are of his books, and he's in one of
<v Speaker 2>the IT movies. He's like the guy working at the
<v Speaker 2>thrift store or whatever. So I was like, yeah, yeah, okay.
<v Speaker 2>So I did think about this a lot, and I
<v Speaker 2>don't know why I made this question, and then I
<v Speaker 2>stressed myself out about it.
<v Speaker 1>I don't know.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, okay, but but for my wife, for while, I
<v Speaker 2>would I would cast Monica Raymond, who is from high Town.
<v Speaker 1>Why did I know you were going to choose that?
<v Speaker 2>I feel like they sort of remind me of each other. Yes,
<v Speaker 2>So so I'm like, that's cute. And then I was like,
<v Speaker 2>but who would I cast for me? Because I was
<v Speaker 2>thinking about looks, and I was like, people have told
<v Speaker 2>me that I recently look like Parker Posey, but she
<v Speaker 2>is too old to uh be with Monica Raymond and
<v Speaker 2>also to play me. So so I chose Kat Dennings
<v Speaker 2>because I could see that. Yes, Okay, I was like,
<v Speaker 2>because she's also like a thick white girl with dark
<v Speaker 2>hair and interesting notes and light eyes and big boots.
<v Speaker 1>Okay, but I can see that, or Megan Fox Okay.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, but she's she's too skinny, and that wouldn't work.
<v Speaker 2>I'm so specific on I'm like, somebody like.
<v Speaker 1>Mine is completely different than.
<v Speaker 2>I love it because it's true, like I should have
<v Speaker 2>thought like who could tell the story? Well? But you
<v Speaker 2>know what, I also do think like Cat Stuttings would
<v Speaker 2>do a good job.
<v Speaker 1>I think because she's funny.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, like Nick and Nora's infinite playlist, right, yeah, infinite.
<v Speaker 1>Right, The's infinite place.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, it starts to sound wrong, and I was like what,
<v Speaker 2>and uh, she's kind of like silly in it. Yeah,
<v Speaker 2>And so also I was like, should I cast her?
<v Speaker 2>Because my wife had like a big crush on her.
<v Speaker 2>She used to watch all her Like yeah, so anyway,
<v Speaker 2>that's really fun. I do think, well, would you start
<v Speaker 2>it in my own Yeah?
<v Speaker 1>Would you make the cameo? Oh?
<v Speaker 2>I know it wouldn't be the star. I probably would
<v Speaker 2>make the cameo, but I I don't know what I
<v Speaker 2>would do. I like, I don't like I could play
<v Speaker 2>my own mom when it's like the youngest version of
<v Speaker 2>me or something, because you know, we're going to talk
<v Speaker 2>about in a few weeks, we're going to talk about Gia. Yeah,
<v Speaker 2>but I rewatched it and uh, here's a little interesting
<v Speaker 2>tidbit that I forgot. Meyla Kunis plays baby Gia and
<v Speaker 2>Angelina Joe Lee plays grown up Gia. It makes sense
<v Speaker 2>because they do have like similarities. So I was like,
<v Speaker 2>maybe I could play the mom version of whoever plays
<v Speaker 2>like baby me?
<v Speaker 1>Yeah? You know what that could worry?
<v Speaker 2>Yeah? Okay, So I thought that was so cool and fun.
<v Speaker 2>But I also wanted to see do you have any
<v Speaker 2>hot takes or burning desires for this movie, like anything
<v Speaker 2>you really want to share?
<v Speaker 1>Okay. When I first watched it, I did not notice this,
<v Speaker 1>but watching it again, they are so well, I mean,
<v Speaker 1>this is the early two thousands, but they were so
<v Speaker 1>obsessed with weight. The moms in there were constantly on
<v Speaker 1>the daughters about like you shouldn't eat this, you shouldn't
<v Speaker 1>do that, you should keep the weight off. And it
<v Speaker 1>was just so like thrown in their shirt, right, Yeah,
<v Speaker 1>yeah that's true.
<v Speaker 2>And you know what, I didn't even write about that,
<v Speaker 2>which usually I notice that, and I feel like I
<v Speaker 2>was so like, whatever, I know it, and it was like, yeah,
<v Speaker 2>did you have any other things that I don't want
<v Speaker 2>to Honestly, no, it was just that because I hadn't
<v Speaker 2>realized at first.
<v Speaker 1>When I first watched it, I was just like, okay,
<v Speaker 1>like more paying attention to their love story and like
<v Speaker 1>what they were saying. Yeah, but somehow I missed the culture.
<v Speaker 1>So I'm like, whoa. When I was watching again, I
<v Speaker 1>was like, that is so weird.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, yeah, that was life, That's what it was to be.
<v Speaker 1>What about you?
<v Speaker 2>Okay, well what did I say? Okay? First, I had
<v Speaker 2>to mention that the cover, like the cover photo when
<v Speaker 2>you go to stream it, doesn't it look like the
<v Speaker 2>L word? Yeah, Like it's like black and white and pink,
<v Speaker 2>and I think it has almost looks like it has
<v Speaker 2>like a skyline like the OL word. I don't know.
<v Speaker 2>It literally was so two thousand and eight because the
<v Speaker 2>L word was really popular at that time, and they're
<v Speaker 2>like it's gay, let's make it look like the OL word.
<v Speaker 2>They're like pink, yes and so. And then I said, oh,
<v Speaker 2>this is something good. I said, I something good, something good,
<v Speaker 2>something more deep than the cover looks like always. I
<v Speaker 2>was like, I love how the characters challenge each other
<v Speaker 2>to think for themselves and break free of societal and
<v Speaker 2>religious expectations, because it seems like there was like in
<v Speaker 2>the beginning, like one of them seemed like she's so
<v Speaker 2>like liberated in certain things and was like challenging the
<v Speaker 2>other one. But then it's like but she was still
<v Speaker 2>like obsessed with like I have to marry a Mayana
<v Speaker 2>yeah da, And so it was like interesting to see
<v Speaker 2>them like bring out these different things and really like
<v Speaker 2>question each other because I feel like sometimes the best
<v Speaker 2>way to like learn that maybe you're thinking is kind
<v Speaker 2>of close minded, or you're not maybe you're making not
<v Speaker 2>the best decision is for somebody to like flat out
<v Speaker 2>be like why do you feel that way? Or like
<v Speaker 2>why do you think that? And it can be like
<v Speaker 2>kind of uncomfortable, like I think I I don't know
<v Speaker 2>if I talked about this, but I like always remember
<v Speaker 2>this time where I I think I did. I said
<v Speaker 2>something kind of like body shaming about someone and it
<v Speaker 2>was someone that I didn't like, so in my mind
<v Speaker 2>because I body shame myself my whole life, I was like, oh, well,
<v Speaker 2>that person's an asshole, so let me talk about how
<v Speaker 2>like they're fat. And then someone a friend was like, oh, Okay,
<v Speaker 2>why don't I like the body shaming part of that?
<v Speaker 2>But I get what you're saying or something and then
<v Speaker 2>I felt like so embarrassed and bad about it. And
<v Speaker 2>this was like over ten years ago. But I think
<v Speaker 2>about it before I ever say anything like that, you know.
<v Speaker 2>So sometimes someone really pointing things out to you, even
<v Speaker 2>if it's like awkward in the moment, is the best thing.
<v Speaker 2>So I try to remind myself that when I have
<v Speaker 2>the opportunity to say something to someone and I'm like, oh,
<v Speaker 2>I don't want it to be weird. So I like
<v Speaker 2>that they did that they led with curiosity. That was
<v Speaker 2>something that I learned in a training I did about
<v Speaker 2>like racial bias, microaggressions, and it was talking about like
<v Speaker 2>you need to lead with curiosity instead of judgment. And
<v Speaker 2>that's something that's so hard for me because if I
<v Speaker 2>think that somebody is going to be like conservative, Republican
<v Speaker 2>or whatever, I like already don't like them, and then
<v Speaker 2>and then I'm like, shouldn't I be like asking them,
<v Speaker 2>you know, kind of like well, why where did you
<v Speaker 2>hear that? Or why? Instead I'm like, oh, fuck you,
<v Speaker 2>I don't like you, and I need to not do that.
<v Speaker 1>So there needs to be a balance.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, it's so hard for me. So I thought they
<v Speaker 2>were a good example of that. They weren't just like
<v Speaker 2>okay by yeah anyway, So I'm excited to hear your
<v Speaker 2>recap of it since I talked so much about it.
<v Speaker 2>But we're going to take a little breaky first and
<v Speaker 2>then we'll get back into the recap. So while we're out,
<v Speaker 2>think about who you would cast in a movie of
<v Speaker 2>your life.
<v Speaker 3>And let us know in comments are on social media.
<v Speaker 2>Welcome back to but I'm a Lesbian. This week we
<v Speaker 2>are discussing I can't think straight?
<v Speaker 1>Yes, okay. So the film starts out with this like
<v Speaker 1>huge house and you can tell that these people are
<v Speaker 1>very rich, rich rich, like super rich. They have a maid,
<v Speaker 1>they have like floors, like I want to say, their
<v Speaker 1>house is like three stories or something.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah. I was thinking about how when we watched Happiest
<v Speaker 2>Season we were like, oh, they're rich rich, way more
<v Speaker 2>They're way more rich.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, think of that, but like times ten. Yeah. So
<v Speaker 1>it starts a woman is seen getting ready at her
<v Speaker 1>parents' house for her engagement party. Her name is Tala.
<v Speaker 1>So they're also in Jordan as well. Yes, have you
<v Speaker 1>ever been to Dan?
<v Speaker 2>Pretty sure you haven't?
<v Speaker 1>No, I want to, I'm like, yes, I haven't.
<v Speaker 2>I know, like I feel like you would have told
<v Speaker 2>me if you had.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah.
<v Speaker 2>When I was a kid, I had a friend that
<v Speaker 2>family was from and they would go there like every
<v Speaker 2>year and she would always tell me about it. But
<v Speaker 2>I've never been there, so I was like, oh my god,
<v Speaker 2>this movie is the place that my friend Summer was
<v Speaker 2>from thirty years ago. Anyway, So they're in Jordan.
<v Speaker 1>Yes, So Tala's getting ready for her engagement party. We
<v Speaker 1>see an annoying man talking to Tala's sister and he's like,
<v Speaker 1>I hope this is the last engagement party that your
<v Speaker 1>father has to pay for because your sister basically calls
<v Speaker 1>them off all the time. And the sister just stays quiet,
<v Speaker 1>and I'm like, ew okay, sister, because she agrees with
<v Speaker 1>it as well, and basically that there's a lot of
<v Speaker 1>shame and Tala's just like I don't care. So at
<v Speaker 1>the engagement party, which is very extravagant, Tala's family members
<v Speaker 1>and friends talk about how many engagement parties she's broken
<v Speaker 1>off and they're like, I hope she doesn't do it
<v Speaker 1>this time. They're talking about how she broke it off
<v Speaker 1>after the dinner she broke it off before, and they're
<v Speaker 1>just like everybody's kind of studying her to see, like
<v Speaker 1>is she going to break it off? But she's just
<v Speaker 1>dancing and she's having fun. She's just like, no, I'm
<v Speaker 1>not going to break it off.
<v Speaker 2>They're like probably thinking she kind of acted like this
<v Speaker 2>the other times, but they're like.
<v Speaker 1>They're like, last time, she waited till after the dinner,
<v Speaker 1>and then she waited for like her sister to have
<v Speaker 1>like a drink in her hand, like drinking it so
<v Speaker 1>that she like spit it out. So her uncle comes
<v Speaker 1>over and he's just like, oh my god, of course
<v Speaker 1>you love this man. He's rich and he's a Christian.
<v Speaker 1>And she's just like, yeah, I love him. And they
<v Speaker 1>also talk about her uncle that has a lot of
<v Speaker 1>women as well, and so he's just like it's okay,
<v Speaker 1>you're like me. And then I said, tell his older sister, Lemia,
<v Speaker 1>the one with the annoying man, I said, she seems
<v Speaker 1>like a bitch because she kind of is.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, she was, that is it. I thought she was
<v Speaker 2>really pretty. I was gonna see you pretty one. And
<v Speaker 2>then I'm like they were all pretty, but I just
<v Speaker 2>was like, oh she's pretty.
<v Speaker 1>And then I was like, oh, she's kind of a bitch.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah that honestly so. And then back in London, we
<v Speaker 1>see a woman named Layla and she's speaking to her
<v Speaker 1>father about eventually taking over his business. She does not
<v Speaker 1>want to do that because she says she's no good
<v Speaker 1>at it, but the father's like, no, you're gonna do great,
<v Speaker 1>like you got this, not your sister, her younger sister.
<v Speaker 1>So we learned that Layla is dating a man named Ali,
<v Speaker 1>and her parents really like him because they're like, he's
<v Speaker 1>so nice, he's like a good Muslim man, which that's
<v Speaker 1>what we want, right, and Layla's just like, yeah, you know,
<v Speaker 1>I like him. So Ali comes over to pick up
<v Speaker 1>Leaila because they are going to hang out with Tala.
<v Speaker 1>Ali and Tala know each other because one of Tala's
<v Speaker 1>fiances or ex fiancees. They went to school together and
<v Speaker 1>her and Ali just stayed friends. So when Tala and
<v Speaker 1>Layla meet, they have an instant connection, and it's kind
<v Speaker 1>of awkward because the mom is just so like, she's
<v Speaker 1>so rude. Tala's mom is so rude because she's asking
<v Speaker 1>Layla like, why are you Muslim? Basically oh no, then
<v Speaker 1>she's like you're also Jewish, and so she's just like
<v Speaker 1>this is too much. Yeah, because they are debating over
<v Speaker 1>Palestine in Israel.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah I know.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah.
<v Speaker 2>I was like, oh, I mean obviously very well. Yeah
<v Speaker 2>also right now, yes, so yeah that was interesting. Also, Yeah,
<v Speaker 2>the mom is so like the typical what you think
<v Speaker 2>of like a snooty rich person.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah she is. She's beautiful, but she's so like snobby,
<v Speaker 1>like she's just like whatever, and she's constantly bringing Talla
<v Speaker 1>down because she's just like, let's see if she can
<v Speaker 1>keep this engagement and this and whatever. She's just like,
<v Speaker 1>don't eat anything because I just took in your dress
<v Speaker 1>like two more inches or something.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah. Also, like not that it would matter if they
<v Speaker 2>were skinny or not, but literally all of these people
<v Speaker 2>are super skinny.
<v Speaker 1>They're already skinny.
<v Speaker 2>Beh my god, don't eat anything. It's like, oh my god,
<v Speaker 2>she'll still be a double zero. It's like not that
<v Speaker 2>big of a deal.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, she doesn't wonder to eat anything. The wedding's like
<v Speaker 1>not even like the next day or anything. It's like
<v Speaker 1>a week away, and she's like, don't eat anything, just
<v Speaker 1>start herself.
<v Speaker 2>That's that's okay, right, So sad.
<v Speaker 1>So oh yeah, I put She basically commented on that,
<v Speaker 1>but Tala doesn't say anything. So then they have a
<v Speaker 1>conversation about Palestine and Israel, and Layla seems a little
<v Speaker 1>bit thrown off, like you said, because she's being met
<v Speaker 1>with this like curiosity of why she subscribes to this religion,
<v Speaker 1>why she has these like views. And Ali tells Tala
<v Speaker 1>like lay off, like it's okay, Like don't you're kind
<v Speaker 1>of making her like feel uncomfortable. But back at home,
<v Speaker 1>Layla's mother is also annoying, I said, and criticizes her
<v Speaker 1>and Yasmin about their lack of interest in their Indian culture.
<v Speaker 1>Oh but then a little sister, Yeah, Yasmin's a little sister,
<v Speaker 1>the one that like wants to be a chef, and
<v Speaker 1>she's like trying to make new food and the mom's
<v Speaker 1>just like, why don't she make Indian food? And she's
<v Speaker 1>just like, well, I'm trying to like branch out.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, because she was making Ethiopian food. I think, yeah
<v Speaker 2>she was.
<v Speaker 1>She was making the open if you open food, and
<v Speaker 1>the mom was just like ew, what is that?
<v Speaker 2>Well, some people are such haters, but I understand. She's
<v Speaker 2>like I want you to like keep your culture alive.
<v Speaker 2>But also I was like wow, I've had Ethiopian food before.
<v Speaker 2>Now I feel so cool. I know what they're talking
<v Speaker 2>about because I only, like last year, tried it and
<v Speaker 2>I love it, and I knew I would love it
<v Speaker 2>because I love all food. But yeah, I was like,
<v Speaker 2>oh my godhead she because later they're making the little
<v Speaker 2>bread that now yes, but anyway, but you're like, I
<v Speaker 2>know that I had that in Jera in Jerah.
<v Speaker 1>Okay. I was like, okay, okay, I know it, I
<v Speaker 1>know it.
<v Speaker 2>Okay, So yeah, the mom Mom's mom's a hater.
<v Speaker 1>Both of the moms are haters. But I'm guessing they're
<v Speaker 1>supposed to be the stereotypical, like you said, like overbearing
<v Speaker 1>mother that just wants the best for their daughters, but
<v Speaker 1>like they're going about it the completely wrong way by
<v Speaker 1>trying to control them. So the next day Ali uh
<v Speaker 1>takes I mean it takes Layla to go play tennis,
<v Speaker 1>and he's like, oh, I have a friend Jeff, and
<v Speaker 1>Tala's going to be there, so you'll just play her
<v Speaker 1>because I owe Jeff a game. And they're playing tennis,
<v Speaker 1>but they're like staring at each other. There's always that
<v Speaker 1>like intense eye contact in lesbian movies they're like playing tennis,
<v Speaker 1>but they're not just playing tennis. There's something else going on.
<v Speaker 3>What is that?
<v Speaker 2>Uh in bring it on? They're like, you're totally cheerfucking
<v Speaker 2>not Oh yeah, they're tennis fucking each other.
<v Speaker 1>They were the way they were like serving the ball.
<v Speaker 1>I was just like, oh my god. Right, And so
<v Speaker 1>I thought they had like the chemistry. They're like maybe
<v Speaker 1>suddenly flirting with each other. I feel like Tala was
<v Speaker 1>definitely flirting with Laila and Leila was just like, whoa,
<v Speaker 1>I don't know what I feel like this. Yeah. So
<v Speaker 1>then back in the locker room, they're like talking to
<v Speaker 1>each other and Tala's asking Layla, like what are your passions,
<v Speaker 1>Like what do you want to do? And she's just like, well,
<v Speaker 1>I like writing, but I not doing it professionally, like
<v Speaker 1>I never let anybody read my work. And Tala's just like,
<v Speaker 1>oh my god, you should let me read your work.
<v Speaker 1>And then she cuts Leyla cuts herself and she like
<v Speaker 1>goes over and she's like let me like help you
<v Speaker 1>with that, and they're just like staring at each other. Yeah,
<v Speaker 1>She's like I know what to do. And so then
<v Speaker 1>the next day they are talking on the phone and
<v Speaker 1>Tala invites Leyla to watch her in a polo match
<v Speaker 1>without Ali because he can't come. But she's just like, you, like,
<v Speaker 1>what's come over? Like, you come over and we'll hang out.
<v Speaker 1>So then Layla lies to her parents because she doesn't
<v Speaker 1>want to the lunch would interfere with the polo match,
<v Speaker 1>but she's like not telling them that she's gonna hang
<v Speaker 1>out with Tala. She's just like, oh, I have other
<v Speaker 1>stuff to do, which already she's just like, why am
<v Speaker 1>I lying about hanging out with Tala if she's just
<v Speaker 1>a friend.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, Like she already feels different.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah about it, she knows, And so she's watching Tala
<v Speaker 1>play and it's like she's very into her. Tala's in
<v Speaker 1>this like well I don't know if well, no, I
<v Speaker 1>was gonna say, you've never played polo, right, Yeah, So
<v Speaker 1>she's in like the get up for it, and so
<v Speaker 1>Tala's just like coming over and flirting with her, and
<v Speaker 1>Layla's just like still, I feel like Layla's a little
<v Speaker 1>bit more receptive now at this point because they're staring
<v Speaker 1>at each other and she's also like interested in Tala.
<v Speaker 1>Tala is a business woman on her own aside from
<v Speaker 1>her parents like many other businesses, because she wanted to
<v Speaker 1>see if she could do it on her own. Oh yeah, because.
<v Speaker 2>She didn't get a small loan of a million dollars.
<v Speaker 1>She must have got a small loan honestly.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, probably, but now she's running it on her own.
<v Speaker 1>Now she's running it on her own, and she's like,
<v Speaker 1>I need to get this really big order in order
<v Speaker 1>to like prove that I can do it myself. And
<v Speaker 1>so the next day, La Layla calls Tala and they
<v Speaker 1>meet up and she gives her some of her like
<v Speaker 1>some of her work, and so Tala's like reading and
<v Speaker 1>she's like, whoa, You're so talented, Like you really you
<v Speaker 1>need to pursue this. And she's encouraging her to like
<v Speaker 1>be herself, like be independent and like go for what
<v Speaker 1>she wants. And then Tala asked about her having like
<v Speaker 1>four other engagements and she's just like, yeah, well one
<v Speaker 1>guy was a drug addict, another one I just didn't love,
<v Speaker 1>and you know this one I do love. She's like,
<v Speaker 1>I love things about him, So that's a red flag, obviously.
<v Speaker 1>I'm like, girl, you're yeah, She's like there are things
<v Speaker 1>I love about him, like the things that he does
<v Speaker 1>not necessarily him like himself.
<v Speaker 2>It reminded me a lot actually of last week's episode
<v Speaker 2>the Imagine Me and You, because oh yeah, Rachel said
<v Speaker 2>that she you grow to love someone, yeah, just like
<v Speaker 2>instant yes, and then also their eye contact and like
<v Speaker 2>initial like immediate, like being into each other was like
<v Speaker 2>the two characters in Imagine Me and You.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah.
<v Speaker 2>I don't know if that's just the very two thousands lesbian.
<v Speaker 1>I contact equals they're in love with each other. I
<v Speaker 1>understand that it was so easy back then. How to
<v Speaker 1>do is just stare at somebody, see each other. And
<v Speaker 1>so yeah, Tala asked Leyla if it clicks with Ali,
<v Speaker 1>and she says, no, not the way it's supposed to.
<v Speaker 1>But she also is like, I'm with him still, so
<v Speaker 1>you know. Back at home, Leyla tells her mom that
<v Speaker 1>she's going to Oxford with a friend, and her mom's like,
<v Speaker 1>oh my god, is it Ali? And she's like no,
<v Speaker 1>why does everything have to be about Ali? And then
<v Speaker 1>she goes to her room and Yasmin is very smart,
<v Speaker 1>that's her little sister. She puts two and two together
<v Speaker 1>and she's just like, you've been hanging out with Tala
<v Speaker 1>a lot. You know, and she's like, yeah, she's a friend.
<v Speaker 1>And she's like, do you think she's like pretty or
<v Speaker 1>like hot? And she's like what are you talking about?
<v Speaker 1>Like no, and so I feel like that could have
<v Speaker 1>been the time for her to say to Yasmin, like
<v Speaker 1>you know, I am feeling her, but she doesn't say anything. Yeah,
<v Speaker 1>but Yasmin knows already, So I like, yes, I think
<v Speaker 1>she's like my favorite character in here.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, she's so funny. I know. I was trying to
<v Speaker 2>figure out like is she like in college or is
<v Speaker 2>she's still in high school. I couldn't share out like
<v Speaker 2>how old she was because I was like, she's younger,
<v Speaker 2>but I think she's like.
<v Speaker 1>I think she's in college because she says she was
<v Speaker 1>taking classes and she was like studying to be a chef.
<v Speaker 2>Unless it's like okay, so she's.
<v Speaker 1>Like, oh, yeah, I want to say college.
<v Speaker 2>I'm gonna say I don't know if she lives really young,
<v Speaker 2>So I was like, I can't tell her. She's still
<v Speaker 2>like okay.
<v Speaker 1>Cool, and so yeah, they go. Tala and Layla go
<v Speaker 1>to Oxford with her sister Lemia, and Lemia wants to
<v Speaker 1>shop for wedding dresses and shop for like just things
<v Speaker 1>for the wedding, and Tala and Layla are like, no,
<v Speaker 1>we don't want to do that. We're going to explore.
<v Speaker 1>We're gonna like talk and get to know each other more.
<v Speaker 1>And they're still flirting, and I fucking yeah, that's literally
<v Speaker 1>the entire thing. They're just talking, but they also have
<v Speaker 1>like deep conversations about themselves, so they do have stuff
<v Speaker 1>in it. And so back at their hotel room because
<v Speaker 1>they're sharing a hotel room, Leila is sitting in bed
<v Speaker 1>reading her book and Tala's like dancing and Leila's like,
<v Speaker 1>oh my god, no, I could never like move like that,
<v Speaker 1>like I don't know how to dance, and Tala's like here,
<v Speaker 1>like came here, I'll show you. So then they start
<v Speaker 1>dancing and they're touching each other, and then they begin kissing,
<v Speaker 1>I know, and then it's like a montage of them
<v Speaker 1>touching each other and having sex. Oh my god, and
<v Speaker 1>so right. It makes me laugh the way like the
<v Speaker 1>two thousand sex scenes work because they're like, we want
<v Speaker 1>you to like get the idea that they are not
<v Speaker 1>just like touching each other and kissing, they're having sex.
<v Speaker 1>But we're not going to show you because this is
<v Speaker 1>that's true.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, yeah, I do think I can't remember this one exactly,
<v Speaker 2>but I feel like it was where it was like
<v Speaker 2>we see like some body parts.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, you see the body part and they just like
<v Speaker 1>touch it and then it goes to like another scene that.
<v Speaker 2>Also reminds me of there was a a did that
<v Speaker 2>a lot in the L Word, But like there was
<v Speaker 2>one scene that Alicia mentioned in the book I finally
<v Speaker 2>finished reading but also Gay for You book, and Lisia
<v Speaker 2>mentioned it that there was like a scene where she
<v Speaker 2>was liaking Tasha's butt crack.
<v Speaker 1>I did like it.
<v Speaker 2>That was one of the like clobe.
<v Speaker 1>God, like, oh my god, I do remember that a.
<v Speaker 2>Second bye, but not not so much.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah yeah, just a little yeah yeah. And so they're
<v Speaker 1>in bed and they're talking and then it's the next
<v Speaker 1>day and Layla asked her if she's ever done this before,
<v Speaker 1>and Tala is like a little sarcastic, and she's like,
<v Speaker 1>what have sex with a woman? While I'm like set
<v Speaker 1>to be like married, No, I haven't done this. And
<v Speaker 1>then Laila's like come on, She's like yes, when I
<v Speaker 1>was eighteen and in college, I fell in love with
<v Speaker 1>this woman and it was like unlike anything I'd ever
<v Speaker 1>felt before. But I broke it off and it hurt
<v Speaker 1>me really bad because, like you said, she's so has
<v Speaker 1>those like old fashioned mindset of having to marry a
<v Speaker 1>man because their culture wouldn't understand. And she constantly tells
<v Speaker 1>like Layla, no, like our parents wouldn't understand, like we
<v Speaker 1>would be like basically, you know, disowned for this. And
<v Speaker 1>Leila's like, surprisingly, like we didn't break any rules, like
<v Speaker 1>I now that I feel this way, like what am
<v Speaker 1>I supposed to do? And so then her fiance calls
<v Speaker 1>and she's just like, oh no, I'm just here in bed,
<v Speaker 1>and so she's like I'm just here, you know, like
<v Speaker 1>I just got up. And so they're on their way
<v Speaker 1>back to London and they are like touching each other
<v Speaker 1>and kissing in the limo well I think it's a limo,
<v Speaker 1>but it's like their car because it's huge, it's so fancy.
<v Speaker 1>But they get to Tala's house and they're like kissing
<v Speaker 1>and they're like all upon each other, and the phone
<v Speaker 1>rings and in walks Tala's mom and she's just staring
<v Speaker 1>at her like with a little fancy cigarette hold her.
<v Speaker 1>She's just like, oh, I have a surprise for you,
<v Speaker 1>and Tala's like, what do you mean? And her fiance
<v Speaker 1>is there because Lemia was like she wants to stay
<v Speaker 1>in Oxford and she doesn't want to come back, and
<v Speaker 1>they think that she's going to try to call off
<v Speaker 1>the engagement. So her mom brought her fiance and was like, no,
<v Speaker 1>you're going to have this wedding. Like you're here, we're
<v Speaker 1>going to have it. And so she forces Tala to
<v Speaker 1>have dinner with them, and she's meeting I'm sorry, she's
<v Speaker 1>forcing Layla to have dinner with them. She's meeting Tala's
<v Speaker 1>fiance and she's like clearly very hurt, and they give
<v Speaker 1>her an invitation and they're talking and she's just the like,
<v Speaker 1>oh my god, I'm going to be sick. So she
<v Speaker 1>goes to the bathroom and she's just like not doing well,
<v Speaker 1>and Tala goes to meet her in the hallway and
<v Speaker 1>Leayla tells her like, don't you want this? Like I
<v Speaker 1>cannot go back to living the way that I was
<v Speaker 1>now that I know like who I am. And Tala
<v Speaker 1>still says that no, like I can't do it. They
<v Speaker 1>want accept me and I can't lead you into a
<v Speaker 1>life that's gonna be difficult, And now the roles are
<v Speaker 1>reversed because before it was Tala that was so care
<v Speaker 1>free and independent and like sure of herself, and Layla
<v Speaker 1>was the opposite. Now Leayla's like, no, I know what
<v Speaker 1>I want and I want you and I don't want
<v Speaker 1>to hide this, but clearly they cannot be together. So
<v Speaker 1>Layla leaves and she's heartbroken, which is so sad because
<v Speaker 1>I really yeah, but so then she leaves, oh yeah.
<v Speaker 1>So then it's Tala's wedding day. They're back in Jordan,
<v Speaker 1>and she's distraught. She's like, I don't want to do this,
<v Speaker 1>but she's also still like, Okay, I have to like
<v Speaker 1>go through with this. And back at home, Layla tells
<v Speaker 1>her mom that she needs to talk to her, and
<v Speaker 1>the mom doesn't want to hear it. She's just like
<v Speaker 1>trying to change the subject until Layla just like she
<v Speaker 1>tells her mom like I'm gay, and the dad comes
<v Speaker 1>home and he's like, oh, going on, it's just like, Dad,
<v Speaker 1>I'm gay, and he's like I was only gone for
<v Speaker 1>an hour and he seems to be doing better. Like
<v Speaker 1>at the news and the mom because the mom is
<v Speaker 1>like crying and she's like, oh my god, you are
<v Speaker 1>gonna burn in hell, like this is a sin. And
<v Speaker 1>she's just like, oh my god, stop and the Dad's
<v Speaker 1>just like enough, go away, and then he hugs her
<v Speaker 1>and tells her that it's okay and maybe it's time
<v Speaker 1>for her to get that flat because she needs her
<v Speaker 1>own like independence, which I love the dad. He was
<v Speaker 1>so sweet. I also love Tala's dad as well, because
<v Speaker 1>when they were all having dinner, because I guess it's
<v Speaker 1>like their custom for her wedding day, they all have
<v Speaker 1>dinner together so like the bride and the groom see
<v Speaker 1>each other still, which I thought was really nice. But
<v Speaker 1>during there, he like raises a toast to Tala and
<v Speaker 1>her fiance. I just realized, I don't I didn't even
<v Speaker 1>write his name down. Do you remember his name?
<v Speaker 3>No?
<v Speaker 2>Anyways, the man I'm trying to picture of this guy,
<v Speaker 2>I don't remember what he looks like either.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, well he's there. The dad tells him like, I
<v Speaker 1>hope you have many daughters because they are like blessings
<v Speaker 1>and he like truly loves being a girl dad because
<v Speaker 1>he has all girls. And I thought that was really nice.
<v Speaker 1>And so yeah, anyways, as the sisters get ready Lemia
<v Speaker 1>tells Zena, which is the youngest sister who's like very
<v Speaker 1>like Emo Alm. She wants to wear nothing but black,
<v Speaker 1>and she's sad that her boyfriend broke up with her,
<v Speaker 1>but she's like, you know, trying to get on. And
<v Speaker 1>she's a vegetarian too, which I thought she was also
<v Speaker 1>gonna end up being.
<v Speaker 2>I did too because I was my cheerleader when they
<v Speaker 2>were like, you're a vegetarian, you make us eat tofu.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, that's what I thought. She's like laying in the
<v Speaker 1>bed and she's just like, oh, I don't want to
<v Speaker 1>like get ready for this until it takes like no
<v Speaker 1>offense to it. But Lemiya is just like, oh my
<v Speaker 1>god her and I also forgot her husband's name too.
<v Speaker 1>It's not important. But he's picking up his little brother, David,
<v Speaker 1>and they're like, oh my god, you're gonna love David,
<v Speaker 1>like he's asking about you, and she's just like he's gay.
<v Speaker 1>She's like we both like men, like we are not
<v Speaker 1>gonna like we can get along with each other, but
<v Speaker 1>nothing romantic. Yeah, And Lemia says that that's just a
<v Speaker 1>phase that he needs to find the right woman, and
<v Speaker 1>then Tala is like, so you think this is just
<v Speaker 1>a face, you think. This is just like nothing to people.
<v Speaker 1>So she kind of goes off on her.
<v Speaker 2>She's being a really strong ally.
<v Speaker 1>She's a really strong ass. So she gets mad at
<v Speaker 1>Lemia and she's just like no, and she like leaves,
<v Speaker 1>and Xena and Lemi are like, oh, like what happened?
<v Speaker 1>And so then Tala goes to talk to her dad
<v Speaker 1>and she doesn't even have to say anything. She's just
<v Speaker 1>in a staircase and the dad is just like, all right,
<v Speaker 1>did you tell him? And she's like what, and he's like,
<v Speaker 1>I know you're not going to go through with this
<v Speaker 1>wedding and she's just like I'm so sorry, like I
<v Speaker 1>don't know I have to tell him, and so yeah,
<v Speaker 1>he's just like oh well, he's like maybe we'll just
<v Speaker 1>have the party.
<v Speaker 2>Fuck, Like I don't care to spend money for this.
<v Speaker 1>I think he says at one point like there should
<v Speaker 1>be wedding insurance because he's definitely with her. Yeah, but
<v Speaker 1>he's not mad at her at all. He's just like
<v Speaker 1>I just want you to be happy, like that's it,
<v Speaker 1>you know. And so Tala's like happy. The mom's pissed obviously,
<v Speaker 1>and then she tells her fiance and he seems like heartbroken,
<v Speaker 1>and she's just like she's they do it. They don't
<v Speaker 1>show her actually speaking to him. It's just like the music.
<v Speaker 1>But she literally just takes off her ring and she's
<v Speaker 1>like here, I'm like, oh my god, I think she
<v Speaker 1>barely said, like.
<v Speaker 2>She words, we're not doing this.
<v Speaker 1>She's like, I don't care that all your families. So
<v Speaker 1>then over the course of that in London, Tala is
<v Speaker 1>speaking to Ali and she's telling him that she broke
<v Speaker 1>his heart and that she's like, you know, really sad,
<v Speaker 1>but she just couldn't go through with it, but she
<v Speaker 1>still hasn't said the truth on why. And then she
<v Speaker 1>asked about Ali and luh Laila and he says that
<v Speaker 1>Leayla broke it off with him because she's gay, and
<v Speaker 1>then she even told her parents and Tala's like really surprised,
<v Speaker 1>but she also seems proud, and Ali's just like, yeah,
<v Speaker 1>it makes sense, it wasn't my fault, like she's just gay,
<v Speaker 1>like she doesn't like me. And so at a lecture,
<v Speaker 1>Tala sees Layla and a mystery girl and she stops
<v Speaker 1>her and she's just like, what are you doing here?
<v Speaker 1>And she's like my parents sponsored this. What are you
<v Speaker 1>doing here? And she's like I'm here with my friend Jennifer,
<v Speaker 1>and Jennifer's like, you mean girlfriend, And Jennifer's like, come on,
<v Speaker 1>like let's go, and she pulls Layla away. So clearly
<v Speaker 1>Tala is literally still in love with Laila. But Layla's
<v Speaker 1>just like, I can't be with you because you didn't
<v Speaker 1>tell the truth about why you broke off the wedding.
<v Speaker 1>You just said you couldn't do it. And so Tala
<v Speaker 1>keeps trying to call Layla, and Layla has her sister
<v Speaker 1>say that she's not here, and Yasmin's just like kissy
<v Speaker 1>faces to her because she's like I know you love her,
<v Speaker 1>like why are you not taking your calls? So see,
<v Speaker 1>and I love Yasmin for this. She comes up with
<v Speaker 1>the plan to have Ali have Tala go to a
<v Speaker 1>restaurant and she's gonna get Leila at the restaurant so
<v Speaker 1>they're gonna be set up. And Ali's like, I don't
<v Speaker 1>understand why they don't want to see each other, and
<v Speaker 1>she's like, oh my god, they're in love. Have you
<v Speaker 1>ever seen the L word? I was like Lward mentioned
<v Speaker 1>and then he's like, oh wow, and he's not mad
<v Speaker 1>at all, and I'm like, yeah, you know what, You're okay.
<v Speaker 1>So then they go to dinner and they're talking and
<v Speaker 1>they're actually getting along and the passion and love is
<v Speaker 1>still there, but still Leila's like, no, I can't be
<v Speaker 1>with you because you refuse to tell your parents and
<v Speaker 1>I can't live a lie. And Tala's like it doesn't
<v Speaker 1>have to be their business, but she's like, yes, it does,
<v Speaker 1>because every time that we lie, it like is hurting us,
<v Speaker 1>and so shes and Tala's just like, oh my god,
<v Speaker 1>what the fuck do I do? So then she decides
<v Speaker 1>to take her own advice and she tells her parents.
<v Speaker 1>She's just like, I need to talk to you, and
<v Speaker 1>then they shut the door. She comes out, and the
<v Speaker 1>mom's just like you're a sinner, like oh my god,
<v Speaker 1>and the dad's just like, oh, like he seems kind
<v Speaker 1>of shocked, but he's just.
<v Speaker 2>Like okay, it's not being all dramatic, like the dramatic crying.
<v Speaker 1>I think she was like, haven't you shamed us enough?
<v Speaker 1>Like already she said that yeah, and Tala's just like whatever,
<v Speaker 1>and she leaves and she's really happy and she yeah,
<v Speaker 1>and then I said sometime later, Layla is reading an
<v Speaker 1>excerpt of her book and her manager, which we finally
<v Speaker 1>see she got her book published, and there's like a
<v Speaker 1>crowd of people and she's signing her book, and of
<v Speaker 1>course Tala brings her book and she's just like, can
<v Speaker 1>you make it out to Tala, who finally had the
<v Speaker 1>courage to come out to her parents, it's and then
<v Speaker 1>Layla was like, oh my god, because you know it's
<v Speaker 1>it's so nice. And then Tala takes her book and
<v Speaker 1>she sees that Laila put I love you, and I
<v Speaker 1>was like, oh my god. And then after they talk
<v Speaker 1>and she tells them what she said and they're like, basically, oh,
<v Speaker 1>I remember.
<v Speaker 2>I'm like, did I cry when I watched it?
<v Speaker 1>I think I'd tear it up a little because it's
<v Speaker 1>really sweet. Like that scene is really sweet because she's like,
<v Speaker 1>you know, you're expecting it, but like obviously Laila's just
<v Speaker 1>like not expecting it because she can't wait a room.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, she was trying to move on even though she
<v Speaker 2>still loved her.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, and that is sad. And so they talk about it.
<v Speaker 1>They go to a hotel and they have sex, and
<v Speaker 1>this time Laylah's on top.
<v Speaker 2>Oh, shit, I kind of experienced lesbian now because I
<v Speaker 2>had another girlfriend, so oh yeah.
<v Speaker 1>When Tala caught her with Jennifer, she's just like, oh,
<v Speaker 1>are you still with her? And She's just like yeah,
<v Speaker 1>but I don't love her, and she's like she said something.
<v Speaker 1>She's like are there others? And Lailah's just like no.
<v Speaker 1>But Tala was like a little jealous because she was like.
<v Speaker 2>Oh, like what, I wanted to be the only woman exactly.
<v Speaker 1>So after they have sex or talking and Layla is like,
<v Speaker 1>don't worry, we won't need to go to a hotel
<v Speaker 1>anymore because I'm getting a flat, and then Layla is
<v Speaker 1>like no, Tala is like, oh, actually no, we're gonna
<v Speaker 1>need something bigger than that because I told my parents
<v Speaker 1>that we're gonna have children soon. And then Laila's like,
<v Speaker 1>oh my god, and they're like she's like, we're getting
<v Speaker 1>children now, and so then they're happy. And then there's
<v Speaker 1>like a little like scene of Ali and Yasmin together
<v Speaker 1>going on like a backpacking trip. They have like those
<v Speaker 1>huge backpacks and the parents are sending them off and
<v Speaker 1>they look so happy, and I'm like, okay, you're gonna
<v Speaker 1>date your Sister's exit boyfriend.
<v Speaker 2>That's so funny. I don't think I understood that because
<v Speaker 2>I thought that the sister was also gay because she
<v Speaker 2>wore that shit. I can't think straight.
<v Speaker 1>I think it was okay, no, because when they met
<v Speaker 1>up afterwards at the bar and Yasmin and Ali were
<v Speaker 1>talking and they were like they gave each other that look,
<v Speaker 1>and I was like, oh my god, I didn't think
<v Speaker 1>you're like, I only know lesbian I got.
<v Speaker 2>I was like what.
<v Speaker 1>And so they're together, and then we see David and
<v Speaker 1>Zena partying at a gay club and they're all so happy,
<v Speaker 1>and then Lemia is like ripping up her husband's clothes
<v Speaker 1>and she's like smiling, and I'm like, I didn't get
<v Speaker 1>that part because he was like downstairs like looking at
<v Speaker 1>his like watch and like looking at himself in the mirror,
<v Speaker 1>and she's up there like destroying his shit.
<v Speaker 2>So I was supposed to think like that he cheated
<v Speaker 2>on her.
<v Speaker 1>I didn't know why. I think what I thought it
<v Speaker 1>was is that she finally was like fuck you and
<v Speaker 1>like destroyed a shit. Because in the other like scenes,
<v Speaker 1>they always compared Lemia and her husband's marriage to being
<v Speaker 1>like very controlling. Tala was like I never want to
<v Speaker 1>be in that marriage where like they have to know
<v Speaker 1>where I'm at all the time. I have to report
<v Speaker 1>to him, and you know, that's how I felt like
<v Speaker 1>Lema was like breaking free. Yeah, and then there's a
<v Speaker 1>funny scene where there's two women talking and they're like,
<v Speaker 1>she's what Lebanese But some of my best friends are Lebanese.
<v Speaker 2>Yes.
<v Speaker 1>I was like, oh my god. And then that was
<v Speaker 1>the end. Yes, okay, so yeah, that is the end
<v Speaker 1>of I can't think straight. Very cute.
<v Speaker 2>I really liked it, What did you Okay? I really
<v Speaker 2>liked it too. Dang, there was something I was just saying, Oh,
<v Speaker 2>I just have to talk about this for anybody that
<v Speaker 2>is listening that doesn't already know this. There was like
<v Speaker 2>a while that there was this like, uh rumor going
<v Speaker 2>around that the whole reason that everybody thought janis Ian
<v Speaker 2>was a lesbian in Me Girls was because she was Lebanese.
<v Speaker 2>And I want to explain that if you think that,
<v Speaker 2>you're really fucking wrong, because yeah, there is a part
<v Speaker 2>at the end where she says she's Lebanese to Kevin Poor.
<v Speaker 2>But the reason that Regina thought she was a lesbian
<v Speaker 2>was because she would like she wanted to hang out
<v Speaker 2>with her, and she was mad that she would always
<v Speaker 2>like get a boyfriend and blow her off. And then
<v Speaker 2>she said the whole thing about like I couldn't have
<v Speaker 2>her at a pool party. She's a lesbian. Yeah, and
<v Speaker 2>so I was really annoyed when I saw all of
<v Speaker 2>these children basically being like, oh my god, it's because
<v Speaker 2>they thought Lebanese meant lesbian, and I was like, no,
<v Speaker 2>it's not. She literally explained why she started this whole
<v Speaker 2>rumor that she was a lesbian. So I just want
<v Speaker 2>to put that out there from an actual millennial, that
<v Speaker 2>that is so wrong about me and girls. Yeah, Janis
<v Speaker 2>and just also happened to be Lebanese. But I did
<v Speaker 2>like that this joke made sense sense. So okay, I
<v Speaker 2>was gonna say, we are doing munch Merge Murder for
<v Speaker 2>this movie, and the options are Tala, Leyla, and Zina.
<v Speaker 2>So I've been struggling and thinking about it.
<v Speaker 1>Me too, because I lead it home.
<v Speaker 2>I do too.
<v Speaker 1>That is kind of rare because sometimes even though it's
<v Speaker 1>a good story, where like I don't really like that person.
<v Speaker 1>They were bits. They had like an ugly personality and
<v Speaker 1>we were like, oh, do you have yours. Do you
<v Speaker 1>want to go first?
<v Speaker 2>I guess I can, but yeah, it is hard because
<v Speaker 2>I liked all of them, and so there was really
<v Speaker 2>no one that wouldn't be okay with murdering. I mean,
<v Speaker 2>not that I'm okay with murdering anyone, but you know,
<v Speaker 2>sometimes there's people that I'm like, oh, it's a terrible person. Yeah,
<v Speaker 2>but okay, I think that I would. I would merge
<v Speaker 2>with Xena because she's a vegetarian and I think she
<v Speaker 2>is a little yeah okay, and I like her slight emoeness.
<v Speaker 1>And I was like, and she loves gay clubs, yes, okay,
<v Speaker 1>so she's an ally too, yes, oh.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, I think she's bay and so so I think
<v Speaker 2>that I would merge with Zena, and I would munch
<v Speaker 2>Layla okay, and then I would have to murder, which
<v Speaker 2>makes me sad. But she was my least really. I
<v Speaker 2>just I really liked Layla.
<v Speaker 1>Okay, I really liked Layla too.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah. I did think that Tala is really pretty, but
<v Speaker 2>I also think Leayla is really pretty, and I liked
<v Speaker 2>that she In the end, they were both ready to
<v Speaker 2>come out about it, but I like that she was
<v Speaker 2>like all like, I'm gonna be myself. I don't know,
<v Speaker 2>so yeah, that's my choices.
<v Speaker 1>What are yours? Okay? Oh my gosh, Okay, I'm going
<v Speaker 1>to merge with Tala. I like, sorry, don't And this
<v Speaker 1>makes it really hard because I don't want to murder
<v Speaker 1>either of them, but I think I would munch Layla
<v Speaker 1>and then kill Xena.
<v Speaker 2>Unfortunately, that's okay, it makes sense.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah.
<v Speaker 2>I think I also just like her name because it
<v Speaker 2>makes me think of Zeno Warrior princess.
<v Speaker 1>Oh my god, yeah, Sina.
<v Speaker 2>So okay, I am curious. Well, would you rate this
<v Speaker 2>on a scale of one to five cherries?
<v Speaker 1>I really didn't find anything wrong with this movie. Honestly,
<v Speaker 1>I really liked it, but I wouldn't say it's my favorite.
<v Speaker 1>So I'm just going to do four out of five.
<v Speaker 2>Same same girl. I was like, I liked it, but
<v Speaker 2>I didn't think it was like like amazing like where
<v Speaker 2>I was like, like, I've seen this movie before, but
<v Speaker 2>unfortunately I kind of forgot about it because I think
<v Speaker 2>I saw it in like two thousand and nine. Yeah,
<v Speaker 2>and so I forgot the name of it. And then
<v Speaker 2>when I started to watch it, I was like, oh, yeah,
<v Speaker 2>I've seen this one but yeah, it's no love life sleading,
<v Speaker 2>but that's true. What I say, five out of five I.
<v Speaker 1>Cannot I literally cannot get over that movie. I don't
<v Speaker 1>know why it took so long to watch this movie.
<v Speaker 2>It's so good. You can watch it again because it's
<v Speaker 2>on too B now everyone. So if you didn't get
<v Speaker 2>to watch it before because it was only on HBO Max,
<v Speaker 2>now you can watch it on now.
<v Speaker 1>It's on TOOV.
<v Speaker 2>Yes, okay, so let's see. We are going to take
<v Speaker 2>another little break and then we have some fun stuff
<v Speaker 2>coming up. So if you are enjoying but I'm a Lesbian,

<v Speaker 2>a link to the jotform in the description of the episode,
<v Speaker 2>as well as on our link tree on all of
<v Speaker 2>our social media.
<v Speaker 1>Okay, welcome back. We are here to offer up some
<v Speaker 1>new fascinations for you because we are talking about our
<v Speaker 1>current obsessions.
<v Speaker 2>Yes, okay, I do like to Oh. I was like,
<v Speaker 2>you got okay. I was really struggling to think about
<v Speaker 2>because I go through I like a lot of songs. Yeah.
<v Speaker 2>My wife has told me that when I say that
<v Speaker 2>I love so many things, it kind of devalues things
<v Speaker 2>because she's like, you love everything, like you can't love everything,
<v Speaker 2>and I'm like, yes I do. I'm full of whimsy and.
<v Speaker 1>We're full of love.
<v Speaker 2>Yes I am, love you are. And so she just
<v Speaker 2>always say that about like songs because I'd be like, oh,
<v Speaker 2>I love this song, and she's like, do you love
<v Speaker 2>this song? You've just heard this song. I love it already,
<v Speaker 2>I know. So I'm surprised. I've never talked about a
<v Speaker 2>song on here. I was going to talk about one
<v Speaker 2>so here. Look, I've got three current obsessions because I've
<v Speaker 2>been driving her crazy singing this song the it's Chanel,
<v Speaker 2>but Tyla, I can't I've seen it. And also whenever
<v Speaker 2>I sing a song and she's never heard it before,
<v Speaker 2>I apparently have a manly voice because she always is like, oh,
<v Speaker 2>who sings that is like Drake or something. Oh my god,
<v Speaker 2>No it's a woman. Oh my god, why do you
<v Speaker 2>think it's a man? Because there was that other song. Well,
<v Speaker 2>I think that one was men, the one that goes like,
<v Speaker 2>look at me, look at me, you look in Oh yeah,
<v Speaker 2>that sound okay. But then this I kept hearing it
<v Speaker 2>on TikTok and I'm obsessed with.
<v Speaker 1>Stosia cat the look at me Yeah okay.
<v Speaker 2>She thought that was a man because of the way
<v Speaker 2>I was singing it, apparently, and then this new the
<v Speaker 2>Tyla song. I was like, put me in Chanel. Apparently
<v Speaker 2>I sound like a man saying put me in channel,
<v Speaker 2>and she's like, is it the weekend? And I was like,
<v Speaker 2>it's a woman U. So anyway, I'm obsessed with that song.
<v Speaker 2>I can't stop singing it. And then also I really
<v Speaker 2>wanted to talk about my tan Vegan leather puffer jacket
<v Speaker 2>from Abercrombie and Fitch that I got because I really
<v Speaker 2>am obsessed with it, like I saw. I've never had
<v Speaker 2>a puffer jacket. I think I did when I was
<v Speaker 2>like a teenager, when everybody had like the white one
<v Speaker 2>with the fur, but then I got drunk on the
<v Speaker 2>first night I wore it, and I threw up on it,
<v Speaker 2>so I never got to wear it. I got like red,
<v Speaker 2>like red and orange from sparks O my favorite alcohol
<v Speaker 2>beverage at the time anyway, So that's the only other
<v Speaker 2>time I had a puffer jacket. But I saw this
<v Speaker 2>jacket on Facebook marketplace and someone was selling it for
<v Speaker 2>like thirty dollars, but it was the wrong size and
<v Speaker 2>it was like an hour away, and I was like,
<v Speaker 2>what if it like doesn't run big and so it
<v Speaker 2>doesn't fit me, and then I drive an hour. But
<v Speaker 2>it was a really good deal because these jackets are like,
<v Speaker 2>I don't know, I don't buy things from Abercrombie and Fitch,
<v Speaker 2>like straight off that it was like one hundred and
<v Speaker 2>fifty dollars or something crazy, and I was like, no,
<v Speaker 2>I don't want to buy a new one because I
<v Speaker 2>always try to like reduce, reuse, recycle, Rihanna, and also
<v Speaker 2>because I don't want to like spend that much money, right,
<v Speaker 2>And so I was looking on deep hop and I've
<v Speaker 2>found one in my size and I got it for
<v Speaker 2>oh you should, I think, I know, I know, I'll
<v Speaker 2>post a TikTok in it. It's so cute and I
<v Speaker 2>got it for like thirty dollars.
<v Speaker 1>That's really good.
<v Speaker 2>So yeah, and I love it. It's so cute and
<v Speaker 2>then my other one, my third one is Apple TV shows.
<v Speaker 2>I can't I'm obsessed with Apple TV. I didn't have
<v Speaker 2>it for a while because we were like, oh, we
<v Speaker 2>don't really watch anything on here. And then I got
<v Speaker 2>it back because I got a new iPad and you
<v Speaker 2>got like three months of Apple TV for free, and
<v Speaker 2>I was so happy because the morning show is on there.
<v Speaker 2>I don't like it that much anymore. It got kind
<v Speaker 2>of boring, like after the first couple of seasons, after
<v Speaker 2>Reese Witherspoon stopped being with a woman, it got b
<v Speaker 2>oh yeah, I was like, I don't care. As a lesson.
<v Speaker 2>And then but my favorite Seth Rogan has a show
<v Speaker 2>with Rose Byrne, who is so funny and is also
<v Speaker 2>one of my favorites, and it's called Platonic, And so
<v Speaker 2>I watched season one and it's like they're like best friends.
<v Speaker 2>They're Platonic best friends and they're just so fucking funny, Okay,
<v Speaker 2>And so then season two came out and I was like, oh,
<v Speaker 2>my good and so so we got to watch it
<v Speaker 2>and it's really funny and we can't stop quoting it.
<v Speaker 2>There was like this they were addicted to, like these
<v Speaker 2>energy drinks and they were like, it's it's one clinically
<v Speaker 2>proven to function and they're like, what does that mean,
<v Speaker 2>like just the function, and so I keep saying that
<v Speaker 2>it's so stupid. And then Apple TV also has Palm Rale,
<v Speaker 2>which I love with Kristen Wig and it's like so
<v Speaker 2>like it's just a vibe because it's like set in
<v Speaker 2>the sixties in Florida. But then it's also very it's
<v Speaker 2>just funny because she's funny, like she's like she her
<v Speaker 2>like the way she delivers things and the way she
<v Speaker 2>moves her body like I think of like Triangle Sally,
<v Speaker 2>Like it's so funny. She is really fun And then
<v Speaker 2>Pluribus is on there, and yeah, I love Purists, so yeah,
<v Speaker 2>that's last lesbian in the world has to save the world.
<v Speaker 2>So I've been really into Apple TV. Okay, I'm so
<v Speaker 2>sorry because if you only have one, I just took
<v Speaker 2>up so much time talking about I do only have one.
<v Speaker 1>So that's okay, okay, okay. And I changed it from
<v Speaker 1>my originally. I don't know if we have to.
<v Speaker 2>If you can't remember the original, no, but no, I
<v Speaker 2>was making a joke that I couldn't remember it, and
<v Speaker 2>then I did remember it, and then I was like.
<v Speaker 1>Is that really my current obsession right now? Like, I
<v Speaker 1>don't think it is, but there's one that overpowers the
<v Speaker 1>other one. So that's why it's my only one. I
<v Speaker 1>have mentioned this before. I think everybody knows this, but
<v Speaker 1>I've never mentioned it as my current obsession.
<v Speaker 3>What is to me?
<v Speaker 2>Oh my god? You love to Be?
<v Speaker 1>I do. I just feel like through so many categories,
<v Speaker 1>and I feel like it's just the place that I
<v Speaker 1>go to to watch literally everything, Like if we're gonna
<v Speaker 1>watch one of our movies, I'm like, oh, it's got
<v Speaker 1>to be on there, and a lot of the times.
<v Speaker 2>It is, but it's not.
<v Speaker 1>I'm like, you disappointed me, but I still love you.
<v Speaker 2>Literally to Be should sponsor us? Maybe too?
<v Speaker 1>You Apple TV should sponsor us?
<v Speaker 2>We mentioned yes, and The L Word should sponsor us.
<v Speaker 1>They do a Real L Word with us?
<v Speaker 2>Oh my god, I know, Okay, maybe it might not
<v Speaker 2>be so it wouldn't be that interesting because I wouldn't
<v Speaker 2>want to be on it. Yeah, and she definitely we
<v Speaker 2>wouldn't be having sex on the TV like they did
<v Speaker 2>in the Real L Word.
<v Speaker 1>It was like nobody would watch it because having sex and.
<v Speaker 2>Her partners there's no cheating and drama. That's like what
<v Speaker 2>gets people in is like the single people like and
<v Speaker 2>the hooking up with each other and blah blah blah. Yeah,
<v Speaker 2>that's why even I think on season three when Whitney
<v Speaker 2>and Sodo were like for real together, but they were
<v Speaker 2>like hooking up with everybody else at like Dinah Shore,
<v Speaker 2>which they probably would have done that anyway. Maybe they
<v Speaker 2>were kind of open, but I also feel like it
<v Speaker 2>was for their show because it's like, well, this isn't
<v Speaker 2>fun unless you see a bunch of people doing it.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I don't know.
<v Speaker 2>Apparently I thought it would be fun without that, but whatever,
<v Speaker 2>it's only just me. Yeah, like I don't know, but okay,
<v Speaker 2>well that was fun. And then we have this really
<v Speaker 2>cool little like game that has queer trivia. So we
<v Speaker 2>decided that each episode we want to do like ask
<v Speaker 2>each other one of the questions. Yeah, and then that way,
<v Speaker 2>oh yeah, you can play at home kind of too.
<v Speaker 2>We'll give you a pause so that if you know
<v Speaker 2>the answer, you can answer it in your.
<v Speaker 1>Car or wherever you're listening.
<v Speaker 2>Okay, So I am going to just grab one and
<v Speaker 2>I'll ask you the question. Okay.
<v Speaker 1>Oh also shout out to our producer Victoria for giving
<v Speaker 1>us this game.
<v Speaker 2>Yes, I know, I was so excited. Oh okay, okay,
<v Speaker 2>which beloved fairy tale author wrote the tragic romance in
<v Speaker 2>The Little Mermaid after a man he loved marrying a woman?
<v Speaker 1>Oh shit, okay.
<v Speaker 2>So basically would that mean who is the author of.
<v Speaker 1>The Little Mermaid like the original original? Yeah?
<v Speaker 2>I don't think like the screenwriter for the movie.
<v Speaker 1>Well, I don't know this.
<v Speaker 2>Okay, wait, I can give you choices.
<v Speaker 1>Oh okay, okay, okay, okay.
<v Speaker 2>A Oscar Wilde.
<v Speaker 1>That immediately came into my head.
<v Speaker 2>Okay, b Charles Perrault, Okay, see Hans, Christian Anderson, d
<v Speaker 2>Wilhelm Grimm. It's anyone at home, have I guess?
<v Speaker 1>Okay, Oscar wild Hands Okay, I'm just gonna go with.
<v Speaker 1>Before you gave me the options, I was like, if
<v Speaker 1>I have to come up with the name, I don't
<v Speaker 1>know why Oscar wild came to mind. That's gonna be
<v Speaker 1>so wrong. But no, you know what, I'm gonna go
<v Speaker 1>see Hans, right, yeah, okay, I'll go and see fuck it?
<v Speaker 2>Okay Christian Anderson.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I was gonna be so mad if it was
<v Speaker 1>Oscar Wilde, but he didn't seem right.
<v Speaker 2>No, but is he gay? I feel like he was gay.
<v Speaker 1>I don't know.
<v Speaker 2>Okay, So I was like thing about Hans Christian Anderson.
<v Speaker 2>I didn't know he was gay, but I don't know.
<v Speaker 2>Let's learn something new every day, Okay.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, okay, okay. Which drag king rose to fame touring
<v Speaker 1>the black theater circuit as the MC for the jewel
<v Speaker 1>Box Review from the late nineteen fifties through the nineteen sixties.
<v Speaker 2>Oh okay, I might have heard of this person a.
<v Speaker 1>Vesta Tilly see Azusina Myizani. I'm so sorry, but I
<v Speaker 1>say these names wrong. D Bessie Bonehill or b Stormy Delivery.
<v Speaker 2>Okay, Well, now I'm thrown off because the name that
<v Speaker 2>I thought I knew was not an option.
<v Speaker 1>And what was the name you're thinking?
<v Speaker 2>I don't remember it, but it's not one of those
<v Speaker 2>I've seen a picture of like a like a big
<v Speaker 2>butch woman that would like I think was like a
<v Speaker 2>drag king at the time and dressed like a man
<v Speaker 2>in that type of era. Because when you said drag king,
<v Speaker 2>I was like, I don't know any drag kings, Like
<v Speaker 2>I was trying to think of people from like drag shows,
<v Speaker 2>you know, like what's the one with the Boulet Brothers.
<v Speaker 2>But I don't really watch that one. That drag show
<v Speaker 2>I don't watch. I don't know.
<v Speaker 1>I love the drag Kings.
<v Speaker 2>I okay, so I guess I don't What are the names?
<v Speaker 1>Okay, Vessa Tilly, Stormy d Lavery as Usina, my Zannie,
<v Speaker 1>Bessie Bonehill.
<v Speaker 2>Okay, I don't think it's Stormy because I did a
<v Speaker 2>whole discussion about Stormy Delivery, and I don't think that
<v Speaker 2>we Maybe my history didn't include that she was part
<v Speaker 2>of this jewel box review. I'm it's probably her, but
<v Speaker 2>I'm gonna say Bessie Bonehill, is that.
<v Speaker 1>Your final answer?
<v Speaker 2>Yes, okay, it is be Stormy. Well w W. History
<v Speaker 2>did not mention that I was so focused on.
<v Speaker 1>The you you didn't start?
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, she was the mc Okay, well, you know she
<v Speaker 2>did so much in her life. She started she started
<v Speaker 2>the Stonewall riots, and she also was the MCN. She
<v Speaker 2>was also the lesbian Guardian of New York City and
<v Speaker 2>would like get people out of jail that she didn't
<v Speaker 2>even know that were gay. So wow, wow, what a
<v Speaker 2>word learn So much about this person. Oh that was fun. Okay,
<v Speaker 2>I'm excited to do these each time. Really, we're gonna
<v Speaker 2>be like able to tell people all kinds of random
