Speaker 1: Welcome to But I'm a Lesbian, the podcast where we
serve all battye SaaS, queer film reviews, and everything in between.
Whether you're a baby gay.
Speaker 2: Or a queer elder, we're here, We're queer, and we're
diving deep into all things lesbian.
Speaker 1: We're your hosts, Caitlin and Angelina.
Speaker 2: Get ready for some sapphig serotonin. So on today's episode,
we're discussing the classic WLW Black Marr episode San Junipero.
It's in season three, I believe, season three, episode four. Yes,
if you wanted to watch along if you haven't already
seen it, it's a little it's been out for a
few years, but I haven't seen it until this.
Speaker 1: Neither had that.
Speaker 2: Okay, yeah, So did you did you like this episode
or the one we talked about last week, the Hotel
Reverie one better? Or did you hate?
Speaker 1: I'm like, okay, I didn't hate Hotel really I okay again, spoiler.
If you want to go watch this, go watch it.
But I do like this one more just because they
have a happy ending and I love happy ending.
Speaker 2: So okay, yeah, I don't know. I think when I
first watched them both I liked Hotel Reverie More. Okay,
I don't know. I liked them both for different reasons,
but I felt in my mind that I had to
choose one that I liked more. It reminds me of
like when I was When I was a kid, it
was very much you had to be in sync or
Backstreet Boys. You couldn't just like you couldn't do both,
you know. So I was in sync all the way.
Oh my wife was Backstreet Boys. We still argue about
this sometimes, but now we know that Justin Timberlake, who
I thought I was gonna marry, he's fuck boy.
Speaker 1: Yeah he is.
Speaker 2: Sorry if you're listening, Justin just kidding. I know you're
not sorry if you're listening. I just I thought it
was really cool. I liked his like luscious Ramen noodle hair,
the Romen noodle hair.
Speaker 1: Yes, it was so cool.
Speaker 2: But yeah, my wife, it just makes me laugh because
there's always like when you're a lesbian and you have
to like pick a guy to have a crush on.
Which one she loved Kevin from the batter Boys. You know,
he was like the old one. Yeah, but actually he's
like kind of good looking, like he's aged well but
It's just so funny because everybody picked like Nick Carter
or maybe aj if they were like a little edgy,
and she's like, I love Kevin. She's like, yes, Kevin
O chacked it to him. So weird. Anyway, do you
do you have a hot take on this episode?
Speaker 1: I do? I do have a hot time. Yeah, okay,
because I'm wondering if it's gonna be the same. Okay.
So there's a part where you're king Kelly. The two
mains are arguing because Yorky wants Kelly to pass over
with her, and she just can't seem to understand because
Kelly just said, well, my husband, didn't you know, and
like I loved him and I kind of want to
be with him. She reveals that she has a daughter
that things get heated, but before that, Kelly slaps Yorky,
and I feel like that there's no need for that.
I don't feel like violence in any type of relationship,
whether it's between two women and two men, men and
a woman. It's like there's just no need for it.
And I feel like that was just overlook. Yorky was
just like so shocked, and I'm like, what the fuck?
Speaker 2: Is almost like normalizing it, like making it okay.
Speaker 1: Yeah, where it's like, oh, she's so heated it and
she's just like this like outgoing person, like of course
she's gonna slap her. But I'm like, what the fuck,
don't slap her anyways, that's my hot take.
Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, Okay, I forgot that even happened. So
now I feel like a jerk because I would have
been mad about that too, but I forgot.
Speaker 1: But it's okay because they just they like don't really
touch on that. It's just something that happens and like, yeah,
go on.
Speaker 2: You know, I did watch it three times, so I'm
surprised I didn't notice. But whatever, Maybe I don't know.
I guess I also have a problem of looking at
my phone when I'm watching things, so I could have
looked away at them.
Speaker 1: You probably it happened so fast, like yeah, what.
Speaker 2: Is your Okay, I don't really have one, and that's
the thing. So I don't have a hot take, but
I have an interesting question. So maybe instead of a
hot take, I have a hot or a warm queue. Yeah,
Like I don't know, because I don't know. I just
kept thinking about this, Okay, So in this, in this
other world like in San Junaparo, where we will talk
about it more when we get into the recap, but basically,
it's like like your consciousness, like your memories are like
uploaded to the cloud, and then you're like living even
though you're dead, like you live on forever in this world.
I want to know what about the people that are
in andre Naparo that have to work, like the bartenders.
Do they get a discount or did they really choose
to work for their afterlife or are they fully not real?
Because she talked to a bartender and asked whereas Kelly,
and he said, oh, you should probably try is this
when he did he say try the nineties or did
he say try the quagmar No, he said try Quagmark. Yeah.
So I'm like, because I wouldn't choose to work for
you know, I'm dead. I don't want to fucking work.
But I wonder if you get a discount if this
is for people, because it's very expensive it seems to
do this, so I wonder if it's like, well, this
is a different Blackmare episode that I watched, but there
was something similar where it was like to get these
things you had to like subscribe and like they kept
raising the price. So I wondered if it was something
like that, like these people get like half off because
you have to work for eternity. I don't know. Okay,
do you think about that? I did not, But that's
all I could think about.
Speaker 1: Maybe they like choose to I well, I mean, okay,
maybe they're like this is fun, but that guy some
people do love working.
Speaker 2: Not me.
Speaker 1: I know, I don't, but maybe either one they are
like they switch off. But so far each time, like
that Yorky goes there, he is the bartender. Yeah, so
I'm not really sure about that. I want to say
there should be some kind of benefit for that.
Speaker 2: Yeah, but.
Speaker 1: What if they're there part time? No, but then they're
there all the time.
Speaker 2: So actually I don't know, because you can go there
for like five hours, but I felt like, if you
could only go there five hours, would you really choose
to work? So anyway, that was.
Speaker 1: Maybe you lived they like you said, they're.
Speaker 2: Like, oh, he works part time, but he's there full
time in sanjan Apara. Yeah, I thought you meant he
was doing the thing where he's like only goes to
visit for a few hours. And I was like, why
would you work during your few hours waking up quick shift.
Speaker 1: Shift at Alternate Universe. Whatever.
Speaker 2: Well, if anyone has any theories on this, put in
the comments. I tried to look it up on Google
and I don't really think anyone else cared about that,
but I care. So if anyone else has thought about this,
let me know. So coming up next we'll dive into
the recap, but first we're going to take a quick break.
Then get ready to strap in for a wild gay
ride through the decade.
Speaker 1: Welcome back to but I'm a Lesbian. This week, we're
discussing San Junipero, Season three, episode four of Netflix's hit
show Black Mirror. So this one, I feel like was
a wild ride because it, like you said, it's I
want to say, it's a little bit like Hotel Reverie,
like in that AI realm.
Speaker 2: Do you know what I mean?
Speaker 1: But this is apparently the og Black Mirror lesbian episode
that almost everyone has seen minus Caitlin and I.
Speaker 2: Yo, everyone except us really behind me. It's because I
was so upset about the pig thing said. I was like,
I was like, fuck that show, You're gonna beast the alley.
I'm very offended by it. But it's now I like it,
but not season one episode one Girl.
Speaker 1: Yeah, only the two lesbian episodes. Those are the only
two episodes to be fucked with. So don't recommend any
other ugly episode.
Speaker 2: But maybe maybe the one with Annie Murphy because that
one was okay. Oh, Alexis from Shit's Creek. I watched
her episode because I want to supportive, but it's okay,
the lesbian ones are the best.
Speaker 1: Ones, I agree. Okay, Okay. So the episode starts and
we see a woman going into a nightclub and we
know that this is your Ky. So she's in there.
It's very eighties, if you can tell, it's very eighties.
People were dancing, there's like an arcade, there's you know,
just everyone having fun. But this person, which is Yorkie,
she's just kind of unsure of herself. And then we
see Kelly, who's very outgoing, very like just glammed up
in her full eighties, very bodacious. Yes. Yes, she's being
pursued by a guy called Wes and he's just trying
to talk to her. She's like, leave me alone, like
don't talk to me whatever, like come on, you know, right,
So she uses Yorky as like her escape go. She's like,
go along with whatever I say, and she's like, oh
my god, Wes, I'm here catching up with my friend.
She only has six months to live. And Yorkey goes
along with it because she's a girl's girl, so she's
like okay, yes.
Speaker 2: Yeah, and also because she probably would like she's pretty.
Speaker 1: Yeah that's I feel like that's the whole reason why
she went in there in the first place, because she
was like, oh, pretty girl, let's go this way.
Speaker 2: Yeah, okay good.
Speaker 1: I was like, is it just me being like no,
that was her plan.
Speaker 2: Yeah.
Speaker 1: So yeah. So they go along, they start talking, they
get to know each other. This is Yorkie's first time here.
Kelly's just like, oh my god, well let me show
you like what you're missing, Like, let's go dance. So
Yorky's like, two girls, you mean, like we're gonna go
dance on the dance floor and she's like, uh yeah,
let's go. So they go to dance. Everything seems to
be going okay. Kelly's just living like her best life,
like she does not have a care in the world,
and Yorky is like starting to notice everyone around her
and she's like, no, I can't do this. She gets
overwhelmed and she goes outside and Kelly's like, what the fuck?
So she follows her. She's like, everyone was staring at us, like,
you know, because we're two girls dancing, and Kelly's like,
oh my god, the folks here don't care. They're not
uptight like that. But Yorky's still like no, you know,
She's like I don't really like that. So a lot
of flirting goes on. Kelly is very much I want
to say, a dom fem. She was giving Violet?
Speaker 2: Was she not?
Speaker 1: I literally wrote I'm like she's giving dumb fem because
she knows exactly what she wants and she's like going for.
Speaker 2: It, you know, wasn't she? Literally? At one point she
was like, do you want to go to bed with me?
Speaker 1: Yes? She's like she like puts her hand on her
like because they're sitting outside and it's like, you know,
the atmosphere is like just right, and she's like, do
you want to go to bed? And she's like do
you want to go to bed with me? And Yorky's like,
oh my god, She's like what the fuck is She's like, well,
we only have two hours left. So they keep mentioning
like this time limit thing. So you're getting like a vibe,
like something's different here. You know, most people wouldn't, you know,
they'd be like, I have the entire night. But Yorky
declines because she's like, no, it's because I have a
fiance and like that's the only reason. Kelly's like it's
all right, like it's totally fine, like it's okay to
say no, like it's you can turn me down. But
Yorky's just like, no, that's the only reason. So they leave.
It's a week later, they're back at the same place.
It's still the eighties, yea, and Yorki sees Kelly and
this random dude that looks like in like a young
Nick Cage. That's the vibe that I got in Valley Girl.
Speaker 2: I don't know if you guys know that, but okay,
Like my wife always makes fun of me because apparently
I used to have a crush on Nicholas Cage and
I don't remember it, and my mom told about it,
so she's you're a boyfriend Mack Cage or whatever, and
I'm like, well, he used to be better looking. He
has an interesting nose, and I am attracted to interesting feature.
Speaker 1: In his personality, like the roles that he picks, I
feel like they're just really out there.
Speaker 2: Yeah, but he's kind of like a weird guy overall,
Like isn't didn't he marry Elvis's daughter because he was
like obsessed with Elvis? Did I make that up? I
heard that.
Speaker 1: I genuinely have no idea, So correct this in the comments, please, Yeah,
we will fact check this later.
Speaker 2: Yes, anyway, I'm so sorry to interrupt you to talk
about my weird crush on Nicholas Cage when I was nine.
Speaker 1: So yeah, so she leaves. It's a week later, there's
Kelly's flirting with this guy and she knows you're he's
there looking at her and she's dancing, she's talking, but
she's like making very like intense eye contact with Yorkie
to be like you know, you see me, you know,
and Yorkey's just like following them everywhere, basically kind of
like waiting for a chance. So eventually she tell Kelly
tells her date, I have to go to the bathroom.
Yorky follows, and she's just like, you have to show
me what to do, like make this easy for me basically,
you know, and Kelly's like, oh okay, Like she's like,
do you want to get in my car? And Yorkey's
like okay, okay. It was like yes, also okay. In Bound,
we talked about Quirky having Kirky Yorky. That's so funny.
But yeah, aside from that the red truck. I love
how Kelly had a lot.
Speaker 2: Oh I thought you were going to talk about how
Yorky was a dumb name. I was like, I agree.
Speaker 1: Kelly's like like the dog.
Speaker 2: Yeah, I was, okay, she was pretty edgy. Okay, yeah,
I don't know. But she had like a red jeep thing.
Speaker 1: Yeah, she's graduated, right, which I was like, oh my god, yes,
our move right. It makes sense for her to have this.
So they go back and again Yorky's like you have
to show me what to do because I've never done
this before, and Kelly's taking the lead, like she's literally like,
don't even worry. So they have sex, and then after
they are talking and they're just talking about their experiences.
So we find out that Kelly was married to a
guy for a really long time, but she always knew
that she was attracted to women, she just never acted
on it because she really loved her husband, and you know,
she's like, yeah, like I'm attracted to both.
Speaker 2: But they were monogamous.
Speaker 1: Yeah, they were monogamous. Yes, And then Yorky's like, okay,
she's never had sex with anybody and never she's never
been in a relationship. But Kelly's like, your fiance, what
do you mean. She's just like, it's complicated.
Speaker 2: Yeah, it's the whole thing.
Speaker 1: Yeah. So then they look at the time and it's
eleven fifty nine, and Yorky's like, can we just lay here?
So they're like okay, cool, goes black and it is
another week later, so Yorky's getting ready to go out,
obviously to Tucker's the same place, and she's looking but
we see Kelly is confronted by Wes, who is like, please,
like give me a chance, Like, I know we had sex,
but it was more than sex. It was a connection,
and she's like it was just sex. She's like no,
She's like, go find there's so many other people here
in Sandra Napero go to the Quagmar, like go anywhere,
please just leave me alone. So she blows them off
and he's like all right, so, oh no, that was before, Yes,
that was before it comes and said when he comes
back and she lets him know, like no, like you know,
she keeps saying, do you want me to read light you?
And he's like no, please, don't do that. Whatever. So
you get this like vibe that something's like going on
with that. So then another week passes, but then Yorky
can't find Kelly. So then that's when the bartenders like
go to the quagmire, which Yorky doesn't know what the
quagmire is, and Kelly's like, if you don't know what
that is, you're better off no knowing what it is.
So the only way that I can describe the Quagmire
is like this bdm BDSM club, but like also there
was like fighting, so like Slash Fight Club.
Speaker 2: It was like all the vices that people have, like everything, Yeah,
like just fucked up things that are like in human nature.
Speaker 1: That people like. It's like that's where they just decided
to like be. And so Yorky's like, oh my god,
and she runs into Wes and Wes is like, oh, hey,
you know, and he's like, oh my god, you too.
She's like, yeah, like have you seen Kelly. I don't
know where to find her. And he's like, try a
different time. She was in the eighties, nineties, and one
time in two thousand and two, and so she's like okay.
So then she we at this point, we now know.
Speaker 2: They're able to try, they're able to travel.
Speaker 1: Yeah. So then after she's trying out all these different times,
but she still can't find Kelly. She's like, oh my god,
where Kelly? Until they landed two thousand and two, and
she sees Kelly like having fun doing the little like
let's dance, you know, I'm like.
Speaker 2: Shit, oh yeah, dancing.
Speaker 1: She's having fun. And Yorky's like what the hell, Like
why did you not like say anything like I've been
looking for you. And Kelly's just like what are you
talking about? Like you know, and Yorkey's like it's about manners,
and Kelly's just like, I'm having fun and this isn't
fun right now. So I'm like, oh my god. So
basically Yorky tells her like you don't understand, and I
feel like Kelly just wants to be a party girl.
She just wants to have fun. But Yorky definitely caught
feelings for.
Speaker 2: Her, and you know, well, she kind of should have
thought about that when she knew that she had never
done anything with anybody, and she's like, yeah, let's do this.
I mean not to say that everyone gets attached when
they like, yeah, first have sex with someone, but I
feel like you could tell that she was like falling.
Speaker 1: For her, and you could see, yeah.
Speaker 2: So that was unfortunate that she then ran away.
Speaker 1: Yeah. I could see how you're he would be upset
because you know, I mean like.
Speaker 2: It was special to her. To Kelly, at least at
the beginning, Kelly was like, I just like to fuck
what over? I want plenty free.
Speaker 1: She's like, yes, let's have fun.
Speaker 2: Yeah.
Speaker 1: So then of course, after they have their little argument,
they go back to Kelly's and they have sex again.
Speaker 2: Oh my god, Yeah, they do better if we do it.
Speaker 1: Yeah. They're like, we just fought, so make up sex.
Speaker 2: Yeah.
Speaker 1: So then they go back and then now they're like, okay, chill.
They're talking and Yorky's like, I'm gonna get married to
Greg next week, and Kelly's like, oh, She's like I
have to. Kelly's like, oh you have to, and she's
like yeah, you know, my folks don't like him, but
no one can stop us. And so they start talking
more and basically, Yorki tells Kelly, you wouldn't really like me,
and Kelly's like, try me, Like I am dying, Like
they said, I have three months to live, but who
knows how long I really have? And so they tell
each other where they actually live. So Kelly lives in
Carson City, Nevada, and Yorky's like, okay, Santa Rosa, California.
And Kelly's like, well, I'm gonna make it happen, because
of course she's She's like I'm gonna go. So she's like,
I'm gonna go visit you. And so then we see
this like very futuristic looking car, futuristic looking like town,
and there's an older what we assume and no is
an older Kelly with her caregiver. They're going to go
see Yorky. They're at this place, and we see that
Yorky is a quadriplegic. She is in like she's.
Speaker 2: She's like in a coma coma yeah, but she's able
to talk through like the com box.
Speaker 1: So they're like, she can hear you and understand you,
but obviously she just can't speak back to you. And
so of course we see Yorky is older as well,
and Kelly is just like, hey, like you know, it's yeah,
She's like, hey, I'm here. It's nothing for her because
you know, I don't. I get Yorkie being very hesitant
to tell her, but it's also like, you know, she's dying. Yeah,
She's like, I'm also old, Like why would I not?
You know. And so before Kelly leaves, Greg Man that
Yorke's supposed to marry, is like, oh my god, I'm
Greg like, let's come have a chat, Like, let's go
get a coffee. I do, get a drink. Oh my god,
I'm Greg. He's like, you must be Kelly. She's like,
I guess I must. I'm like, oh my gosh, Kelly.
She's just she's such a character. But anyways, they talk
and Greg tells Kelly that Yorky wants to move on,
like she wants to pass on in San dry Napero,
which is an option in this futuristic world that they
never give us. Yeah, like a year or two.
Speaker 2: So yeah, I was trying to figure out what year
it was because it seems like almost like they're saying
maybe Yorky was young in the eighties. So I was like, so,
how futuristic is is this from now? But maybe you know,
Like I'm like, why wouldn't they be going to the
twenty twenties if it was that far in the future,
why would they go all the way back to the eighties.
I don't know. I don't know.
Speaker 1: No, I feel it probably was what we think or
maybe what they had envisioned that like we advanced that far. Yeah, yeah,
actually mean it would be.
Speaker 2: Interesting if we advance that far in like thirty more
years or whatever. I don't know, we don't know what
it's supposed to be. But yeah, apparently there's like they
can like you could die and live there forever, or
you could go visit or so.
Speaker 1: Yeah, they give it specifically for elderly people, and so
you are in this AI world that you are only
limited to once a week for five hours because they
say that they don't want you to have it's so
it's bad for you. And Kelly's like, have you seen
the people in the retirement homes? Like we're spaced out anyways,
like why not let us have fun? And so anyways,
Greg tells Kelly like this is her plan and the
only reason we're getting married is because her parents don't
want to take her off pull the plug like say
that yes, she can pass over in San Joneparo and
Greg's like, I'm gonna do this for her. And so
Kelly's like, oh my god, I have this wonderful idea.
Can I talk to Yorky And he's like all right,
Well he says no, but then he's like, okay, yes, weekend,
but you only have five minutes. So Yorky's like, oh
my god, I've never been here. So Greg like told
you everything, and Kelly's like, yes, this is a crazy idea.
How about you marry me instead because we have a
connection and why not get married? Like Greg seems nice,
but marry me, And so Yorky's like overjoyed. She's like
yes literally right then, and like they get married, and
obviously Kelly respects her wishes and she passes on in
San Genparo. So then Kelly goes back to her retirement
home and she is like hooked up to the thing
to go to San Juanepero and they celebrate their wedding.
Dresses are so cute, you know. There's like a moment
where Yorkie's just like sitting there at the beach and
she's like really like taking everything in and I thought
that was nice. You know, She's just like, Yay, this
is what I wanted because like they said that, I
forgot to mention she did get into a car accident
at twenty one years old, and so she's been like
that since. Yeah, she's twenty one. She never got to
really experience.
Speaker 2: And she had like just come out to her parents, right,
So it's like extra makes sense that she never really
like experienced being in a relationship or being with someone
because she was gay and she was like hiding it.
And I think her parents were really religious. I think
they I don't know if they outright say that, but
they're definitely hinting at it with like they were upset
that she was gay and they wouldn't let her pass
on when she wanted to.
Speaker 1: Yeah, like she wanted to go then because she's like,
Sandra Nampara is great, Like I just tried this out,
but now I really want to be here. And they
were like that's not natural, Like you should just die regularly.
Speaker 2: And not on the machines. Yes, like keeping her a fine,
yeah exactly.
Speaker 1: Yeah, And so they celebrate and they're just having so
much fun and it's really cute scene, you know, and
it's they're just having a great time until Yorki is
telling Kelly like, hey, you should pass like when it's
your time, you should pass on with me and like
stay with me here, and Kelly's like, what, no, I'm
not going to do that because you know, Richard, her
husband did not have a chance, like he said no. Yeah,
And Yorky's just like going on this rant saying like, well,
your husband didn't because he didn't want to. It was selfish,
like he had a chance to be here with you,
but he didn't. And so then Kelly gets really mad
and slaps Yorky, which I hate. That's a no for me, yeah, right,
And then she's like, well you don't understand like the
years like that we gave to each other. And also
we had a daughter that died at thirty nine and
this wasn't around when she died, so he did not
want to take it, knowing that maybe they'll he'll die
and they'll be together in heaven, in which Kelly doesn't
believe in. She said, like I believe that there's just nothing.
So she's like, I don't know, I just don't want
that to happen, and He's just like, oh my god.
And Kelly's just like, I like, she basically starts shitting
on Sandrinaperim's just like, no, this is not for me,
and she.
Speaker 2: Says something like, uh, you don't want to. I don't
want to end up like the people at the Quagmire.
Speaker 1: Yeah, like the sad people there. Yeah. Yeah. She's like,
this is like you're selling me something about forever and
it's not peachy king. She's like, I don't like that,
and so then she deliberately crashes her car, which obviously
you can't die in Sandra Namara either.
Speaker 2: It's also like messed up because I think she knows
that she has trauma. Yorky has trauma from a car crash.
She does, but I know I want things.
Speaker 1: Didn't understand that part, but I think she just wanted
something to like kind of like I guess, oh, okay,
because you know this isn't real. That is a good
guess because earlier she like punches the mirror and then
she like looks so her hand, the mirror like replaces it,
fixes itself, and there's nothing on her hand. She's just like,
nothing is real, like this isn't real. So yeah, so
she's like she wakes up, she's in the retirement home,
and she's like really thinking and like the next couple
of days, she's just contemplating about what could be. And
you can tell her health is declining because you know,
she's older, she has cancer, and she's sitting with her
caregiver and she's just like, you know what, like I
think I'm ready, and her caregiver is like ready for what.
She's like all things considering, like yeah, like you know.
Speaker 2: Like yeah, whatever she said was not so specific.
Speaker 1: Like she's just said okay, then all things considered, I
guess I'm ready.
Speaker 2: Yeah.
Speaker 1: Then the characterter was like for what, and she's like
for the rest of it.
Speaker 2: Yes, that's what it was. Because I was like, Okay,
what does she mean? But okay, I can't.
Speaker 1: I mean, I feel like they want you to guess that.
But I also wanted her to say more, like I
thought she was going to say more, but then there's
no one alive for her too say more. So it's
just like her like it's her decision, right. So then
we see that she's like passing over to San Ganaparo
and Yorky's in her red car and she's at Kelly's house.
She's like honking and we see Kelly. Oh my god,
yes I know, and she's just like, oh, let's go.
And they're kissing and they're just so happy and gay
and in love, and then you know, they're dancing. There's
that little montage of them dancing and just having fun.
And I feel like, even though I think the only
like part that they had the conflict was Kelly just
not like getting out of San Janaparo and not going
for however long she didn't, yeah, which a part of
me thought that she wasn't going to go back because
she was so upset with Yorkey.
Speaker 2: Yeah.
Speaker 1: And also I have another question, like similar to yours,
but yeah, are they allowed to go to different times
or do they just stay in the time?
Speaker 2: No.
Speaker 1: I wondered that too, because Yorky was in a different time.
Speaker 2: Yeah. No, I I wondered that too, because I was like,
do you have to be like I'm gonna live in
nineteen eighty seven forever? Nor can you be like, hey,
do you want to go to two thousand and two
with me for a little and like people go there.
I kind of feel like, once you're once you're dead,
you're stuck in that time. But I don't think it
ever specifically says, yeah, I don't know. I did think
that was interesting, right.
Speaker 1: I feel like maybe they're allowed to because after when
they got married, Yorky just like magically had on a
wedding gown. So to me, I just think they can
like go back and forth. But for a split second,
I was like, oh my god, what if she's like
in a different time.
Speaker 2: And you didn't know.
Speaker 1: You didn't even go back to be like, hey, okay,
I'm not mad at you. I'm gonna pass over to
you this time with me. Yeah, oh my god. So
as you know, as I've mentioned so many times already,
I love happy endings. That was a wonderful happy ending
to me, and I really enjoyed it.
Speaker 2: It was a happy ending I did. I read some
theories online where people were saying that they didn't think
that it was a happy ending, but I don't remember
what the theories were. They basically they didn't think that
she actually passed over like that. It was like something else,
like it was in Yorky's like mind conscious.
Speaker 1: I don't know anymore after this, She's not even seen
after that entire fight and it's just Kelly, and it's
like Kelly's decision. I agree with you.
Speaker 2: So I just was confused when I was looking things
up and I saw all these like reddits with their
own like ideas. But then the creator, I think, said no,
you guys are wrong. It's what Angie said. Yeah, exactly exactly.
Speaker 1: I reached out to them way back then, and I
like completely forgot about it.
Speaker 2: I was like, I'm thinking about watching this show in
like five years.
Speaker 1: This wa When did this come out? I think like
maybe it was longer.
Speaker 2: I was like twenty sixteen.
Speaker 1: Oh my god, wasn't even out yet. It was my
closet itself, saying like, reach out and tell them that
this needs to be happy ending.
Speaker 2: You need to address this in some sort of interview.
Speaker 1: Oh my god.
Speaker 2: No. Yeah, well I'm glad you did that because the ending.
Speaker 1: Yeah, credit to me. So now, oh, here's the moment
that you have all been waiting for our version fuck
Mary kill, Munch, merge murder. So our options are limited.
We have Yorky and Kelly, of course, And you said
you didn't remember there's a beginning scene with this girl
when they're first dancing and Yorki's like so shy about it.
There's a girl dancing behind Kelly, and it seems like
she's dancing with like two other people too, But that's
who we have.
Speaker 2: There are not a lot of women in here. I mean, yeah,
so I am. I don't know if this is a
curveball or not, but would be I would murder Yorkie
because she really wanted to die and I'm doing her
a service if she was still alive.
Speaker 1: I love that.
Speaker 2: Yeah, and I would I would marry Kelly because I
mean I would merge with her, but right same thing,
I would you haul with her. We would live together
and she'd give you some pushback, but then she's like,
we would be unofficially married. And then yeah, if I
was still in my drinking days and I was single,
I guess I would probably munch that girl that I
don't even know what she looks like. But if I
was drunk enough, I don't know, I would munch the
girl behind Kelly on the dance floor in the beginning
scene what about You.
Speaker 1: I love that that was very unexpected, Like I don't know, so, Okay,
I would definitely merge with Kelly. Okay, yeah, I would
munch Yorky. I'm not as gracious as you to murder
you what she wants. Yeah, I'm just gonna munch Yorkie.
And then I'd kill the girl behind Kelly.
Speaker 2: Okay, Yeah, what if she's a really nice person. Well,
now I just don't know her.
Speaker 1: I don't have any connection anything that isn't Then that's
probably really mean, because what if she didn't want to
pass over there and I kill her?
Speaker 2: Okay, But honestly, if anyone listening to this happens to
know the extras from this episode, we love to interview
the girl behind Kelly on the gust floor in the
beginning scene because I'd like to know her take on
the all of it. AnyWho, Okay, so I'm interested to
know what would you rate this one out of five cherries?
Speaker 1: Okay? I would rate this a five out of five cherries.
Speaker 2: That's the highest rating you've given anything, because you need
to get bound that And I'm so surprised at the ending.
Speaker 1: I know, and I love that there were I feel
like that. I love that there weren't just too much
of anybody. It's just really Yorking.
Speaker 2: Yeah that's true. So that was nice. Yeah, I'm going
to say four out of five because I just was
so torn. I liked Hotel Reverie. I feel like the
same amount, so so I liked it. I did think
something that I thought was really interesting about this was that,
I mean it really made you think about like life
and death and like, you know, like I'm thinking about
the husband, like if that was my wife now, Like
I'm like I would want to just die and go
to blankness with her, you know. But at the same time,
it's like, now she found this new person. It's just
like so many levels, So it was interesting.
Speaker 1: AnyWho.

brought to you by Monster Energy Unleash the Beast. I'm
actually just kidding, but I wish they would sponsor me
because I love Monster so maybe someday reach out if
there's any lesbians working there, I can put in a
good word. We would love a sponsorship anyway. Angie's going
to give us a history of carabineers.
Speaker 1: Yes, okay, So I feel like everybody knows that carabineers
and lesbians just go together. Like I feel like most
lesbians wear it, right however, except me, except you, But
that's okay, But like most do, It's true. And I
feel like when you see that accessory, you automatically are like,
ooh lesbian, right yeah, so right, like that that's what
I say. I'm like interesting, I'm like, are you? Are you?
Speaker 2: So?
Speaker 1: Flagging has always been something that people in the LGBTQ
plus community have done, especially back then when it was
not safe to identify as gay, you know, I mean
you have to have these like little thing secret things
that other people in the community knew, like that means
you're a lesbian, which, of course now it's like so
popularized that they're like, yes, we already know, not just
people that are gay. So yeah, but back then it
was a very like sacred thing, I would say, until
straight people found out, of course, because they ruined everything. Sorry, guys,
I can't go a single sentence without saying or gay.
But so some things were subtle, other things were not.
But specifically, carabineers got very popular and people were saying, Okay,
that would signify that you're a lesbian. However, what I
had shared with Caitlin was if you had it on
a certain side, then that would mean that you are
either a top or a bottom. So left side is
a top, right side is a bottom, and I wear
a carabiner, but I did not know the side meant
a certain thing. And I think I told you, and
you did not know that it even meant a top
or bottom either, correct.
Speaker 2: I didn't know that.
Speaker 1: Yeah, so I was very interested because I thought there
was like this resurgence of them saying like, okay, yes,
carabiner's equal lesbians, but also this just means you're a
top or bottom. However, this was something that they coined
in the seventies. Really, yeah, can you believe that? I
thought this was something new and then I was like, okay, well,
now it's time to read up a little more on this,
and so they started it. They were saying that you
would know, okay, you're a lesbian, but are you a
top or bottom to get more specific. So there was
a comic Alison Bechtel The Dykes to watch Yes, okay,
she made another comic in which she was saying, okay,
she did not come up with this. This was just
one of like the first like publicized things. But she
was like, oh that person is yes, they're a lesbian.
But they're like, what side is her cara being or on?
And it was on the right side. So they were like,
let's go talk to her because they were obviously tops,
and they're like, what does it mean.
Speaker 2: Okay, right means bottom.
Speaker 1: Yes, and left is a top. And if you're a switch,
I don't know you were both.
Speaker 2: I guess you just you wear none.
Speaker 1: Yeah.
Speaker 2: I was like, you can.
Speaker 1: See that wear a thumb ring. So I feel like
it's really interesting to see because I had thought that
it was something that people were just like, oh, this
this is new and this is just more things that
you know, to get more specific. But no, it's just
got very popular again and people are like yeah, like
some are saying I didn't know, I just wear it
because this is whatever, and others are staying true to
this code. So that like that.
Speaker 2: Is so interesting. I just I mean, we can talk
about this. Probably it will come up more in other episodes.
But it's interesting that this has been a thing since
the seventies. First of all, because I came out in
the in two thousand and nine, and maybe because there
wasn't like TikTok and I didn't know any other gay people.
I never heard the terms tops and bottoms until I
was literally like twenty five, and I had been in
a lesbian relationship for a long time, and I guess
I just so happened to luck out with finding people
that were the opposite of me. Without saying too much information,
there's a side that I would wear a carabiner on
if I were to wear one, But it doesn't that's
it doesn't fit my vibe wearing carabinner. But I feel
like my wife was one. She she sometimes she went
through a phase where she would wear she had a
chapstick like on a on a little like clip that
was her version of a Carolina. She's like, I'm a chestick,
which is also like so gay, because I think that
is there was a while where there were like lipstick
lesbians or chapstick lesbians, and then that's like then there's
like the studs and fems and stems. That's like, I
feel like a stem is a chapstick lesbian, but just
like a white version would be a chapstick lesbian.
Speaker 1: Yeah, I think so.
Speaker 2: I don't know, but I'm learning so much. So I
love that you did this dive into this, and I'm
glad to note from the seventies. A lot of things
happened in the seventies, which makes sense because it was like,
you know, kind of a cool revolutionary time because I know,
we talked a little bit or we mentioned the labyris
in episode one, and that was also something that was
kind of like reclaimed or claimed by lesbians as like
like a symbol of some sort in the seventies. So
the seventies seem pretty cool.
Speaker 1: Yeah, And it's just it sort of seemed like if
you know, you know kind of thing.
Speaker 2: But like.
Speaker 1: Some things I feel like now, especially since back then
it was like not it was still not okay to
be a lesbian, to be gay.
Speaker 2: Yeah.
Speaker 1: Now, obviously it makes sense why we didn't hear anything
about it, because people were just able to be more
openly queer, so they're like, we don't really need to
like say whether it's like left or right or anything,
but it's still nice to acknowledge the signal, yeah, importance
of it.
Speaker 2: Yeah, thank you so much so, and thank you for
