[SPEAKER_07]: And we were walking down the street Paul Servina of the actor and he directed this play and he's he's he's he's gone now So he's now dead Paul Servina, but he we're walking down the street and he was saying to me You know how actors re-descript and I said no.

[SPEAKER_07]: I don't know what you mean and he goes.

[SPEAKER_07]: Oh, so he makes believe his thumbing through a script and he goes Bulls bulls bulls bulls My line bulls up my line My line and I said what about you?

[SPEAKER_07]: He goes that's exactly how I read a script

[SPEAKER_09]: that's great you're just reminded me of that it's all just look at the people you know not for you Tony but for me that's going to play a lot oh yes it is yeah nice job Rob's beware nice job I see definitely that is really well

[SPEAKER_05]: Oh, because he had gotten older, and I think Pee was a little heavy, and he was trying to recreate the look.

[SPEAKER_05]: So, Gary, you're in fine company.

[SPEAKER_07]: That's great.

[SPEAKER_07]: So, Pee Lee Herman was now, he wasn't Pee Lee anymore.

[SPEAKER_07]: He was fatty Herman.

[SPEAKER_09]: I know why it happens with the neck, because of gravity and everything, but I wish that didn't happen, because, and you do see people with the facelifts and everything, but there's not much you can do about this, although I do think they are starting to do necklifts too.

[SPEAKER_07]: But that is a telltale sign of aging and I just I wish it did is well, you know you say it's happening to you It's I don't see it at all.

[SPEAKER_07]: I see it on me and it's look I'm not good with any natural progression of anything that happens to you as you get older Right, that I'm not in favor of so just just do the show like that and so that part that the the the the the The water was that what they call it

[SPEAKER_09]: Um, that's not happening to me, but the filling out here, uh, along my, uh, you know, under my chin that is half.

[SPEAKER_09]: Why are we pointing out our in our in accuracy, sorry?

[SPEAKER_09]: they're just doing jokes and I will always thought how do you how do you know what you've done and what you haven't done and if you get distracted by something in the audience or something how do you remember where to pick up because it's just there're no transitions just jokes right right I never understood it I also don't understand because you know I don't tell a joke you don't really tell jokes not much but how do you remember

[SPEAKER_09]: Let me tell you this, I always remembered this as being at the White House Easter Egg roll because why else would we have been there together?

[SPEAKER_09]: No, it was not.

[SPEAKER_09]: I found out that I was incorrect and I'll tell you why I found this out.

[SPEAKER_09]: Two years ago, when I joined NBC 4,

[SPEAKER_09]: in Washington where I'm the morning anchor, one of the morning anchors, thank you very much.

[SPEAKER_09]: This is a special report.

[SPEAKER_09]: No, sorry.

[SPEAKER_09]: Don't worry a lot about it.

[SPEAKER_09]: We went up to the today's show and sat down with Savannah and Hoda and Al and did some promos.

[SPEAKER_09]: You know how sometimes you see the local stations with the national people and you know, so we did all that.

[SPEAKER_09]: And Al and I, you know, we're very friendly and so we did our own

[SPEAKER_09]: But we referenced this and so the today show said where do you know where that is and I said because we would love to have a clip of that and so I said it was from one of the White House Easter Egg rolls so they research they came back and said we can't find it are you sure so I said well let me look.

[SPEAKER_09]: So I went online, I googled because you can google everything now.

[SPEAKER_09]: And I googled because I remembered, this was so unusual because we cymocast.

[SPEAKER_09]: I, Allen, you're a direction, Gary.

[SPEAKER_09]: Allen, I were both doing our weathercast.

[SPEAKER_09]: We timed it out.

[SPEAKER_09]: So Alson, in one area, I'm in another area.

[SPEAKER_09]: We're both on, he's on NBC, I'm on ABC at the same time.

[SPEAKER_09]: And we timed it out that we were walking towards each other.

[SPEAKER_09]: just in time for us to come out of the weather cast or separate maps and bump into each other live on the air on good morning America and the today show.

[SPEAKER_09]: It was the first time those shows at Simon cast anything and we were I was on his air and he was on our air and we just did a little bit in a couple of lines and it was great and because it was so unique,

[SPEAKER_09]: And this was at the height of the morning show wars.

[SPEAKER_09]: Oh, yeah.

[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, it was when good morning America was breathing down the neck of the today show and coming within a whisper of overtaking them at number one.

[SPEAKER_09]: This made news and it was on entertainment tonight.

[SPEAKER_09]: I think it was on access.

[SPEAKER_07]: It was everything and it was on television at night.

[SPEAKER_07]: It was an access Hollywood entertainment tonight.

[SPEAKER_09]: Right.

[SPEAKER_09]: So I remembered that part of it.

[SPEAKER_09]: So I searched, you know, Al Roker, Tony Perkins, Simon Cast.

[SPEAKER_09]: And it came right up, and it was I think in June of whatever year it was, and it was not.

[SPEAKER_09]: It was, it was a, the president, it was President Bush.

[SPEAKER_09]: They had begun a reading initiative for Bush.

[SPEAKER_07]: That was hers.

[SPEAKER_07]: That was Laura Bush.

[SPEAKER_07]: Yes, right.

[SPEAKER_07]: Right.

[SPEAKER_09]: Hence all the children there, and Laura Bush came out and read to the kids.

[SPEAKER_09]: and all of that.

[SPEAKER_09]: That's why we were there.

[SPEAKER_07]: Okay.

[SPEAKER_07]: All right.

[SPEAKER_07]: But the, but it was the White House.

[SPEAKER_09]: It was the White House.

[SPEAKER_07]: At least that's the most important thing to me is that it didn't turn out to be, you know, in the backyard of, or Brian Park in New York.

[SPEAKER_09]: No, it was in the White House long.

[SPEAKER_09]: So in the photo, you've got up on the green screen.

[SPEAKER_09]: You can see the White House in the background.

[SPEAKER_09]: And there are, you know, mask gots and stuff.

[SPEAKER_09]: So in our mind, because the only time we usually would have been at the White House was the Easter egg.

[SPEAKER_07]: We did that every year every year.

[SPEAKER_07]: I brought my little kids.

[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, I don't think Connor was born yet.

[SPEAKER_07]: But when you wasn't born, would you like to see just a little bit more of this?

[SPEAKER_07]: Just a little bit.

[SPEAKER_06]: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

[SPEAKER_06]: Oh, yeah.

[SPEAKER_06]: I don't know.

[SPEAKER_09]: That was, oh my god.

[SPEAKER_07]: It was so much fun.

[SPEAKER_09]: And it was, um,

[SPEAKER_09]: And it made it made big news so that was very thrilling for me because you know as part of that team with Charlie and Diane and I don't remember if Robin was with us at that point because she joined a little bit later But you know, they were always being featured on Diane Slayer and her interview with so-and-so, you know, yeah for me to get some attention like that.

[SPEAKER_09]: It was really really cool And let me say this because we like this about you Gary Stein as a producer and just

[SPEAKER_09]: going after it, so this is amazing that this happened and you and you coordinate it with whoever the today show on site producer was on a thin walled was the executive producer but it was the the producer in the field that agreed that it would be a good idea.

[SPEAKER_07]: You know, there was much more at stake for us than there was for the today show.

[SPEAKER_09]: Well, there's much more at stake for the today show.

[SPEAKER_07]: Oh, that's what I meant.

[SPEAKER_07]: Right.

[SPEAKER_09]: There's much more for us to gain.

[SPEAKER_07]: And somebody said, hold on, Shelley, Gary snies on the phone.

[SPEAKER_07]: He wants to talk to you.

[SPEAKER_07]: You know, and

[SPEAKER_07]: She takes the phone, she goes, hello, and I told her, I think that we can do a weather simulcast with Al-Roker if you can convince NBC and she, you know, Shelley was sharp as Al.

[SPEAKER_07]: Oh, oh my god, okay, let's she pulled this off.

[SPEAKER_07]: She and the executive Jonathan Wald, they did pull it off.

[SPEAKER_07]: But you know, I do think that NBC got something great out of it because even though we were in a ratings war, everybody was talking about it the next day.

[SPEAKER_07]: That is true.

[SPEAKER_07]: So how could it be bad for anyone?

[SPEAKER_07]: Just because we were fighting for first place.

[SPEAKER_09]: Right, right, right.

[SPEAKER_09]: And you're absolutely right.

[SPEAKER_09]: And you know what?

[SPEAKER_09]: For our broker and we've remained friends all these years.

[SPEAKER_09]: Um, for our roper, that is certainly a, a, a magnanimous thing to do, um, to, you know, hey, Tony Perkins and Alan, I'll new me because he used to be in Washington as well.

[SPEAKER_09]: Uh, if we both started at the same TV station, our course have been very parallel except he's rich and I'm,

[SPEAKER_09]: I'm looking for a loan consolidation or a different consolidation.

[SPEAKER_09]: But talk to Rob about that.

[SPEAKER_05]: Gary, can I ask you a question about the production of that?

[SPEAKER_05]: Because that's a brilliant idea, obviously, and it happened of the moment.

[SPEAKER_05]: Who do you call first?

[SPEAKER_05]: Do you speak to Roker first to know that he's into it?

[SPEAKER_05]: Oh, yeah.

[SPEAKER_05]: The first week to your people first.

[SPEAKER_07]: How do you make it go first?

[SPEAKER_07]: You have to make sure that the people that would be involved in this want to do it.

[SPEAKER_07]: I mean, I knew Tony would want to do it, but I didn't know that Roker would want to do it because he's representing the today show and they don't really need this.

[SPEAKER_07]: But for Al, it was going to be a really good thing.

[SPEAKER_07]: And Al said, I love it.

[SPEAKER_07]: So that's the first thing.

[SPEAKER_07]: The second thing is how do we pull it off because it has to hit on both cameras at both networks at the same second right.

[SPEAKER_09]: This is very difficult.

[SPEAKER_07]: So I had to ask my executive producer who had to ask the production team and all of it had to happen with what we did is we picked which weather hit.

[SPEAKER_07]: We would all go to and we all had to agree that our weather hits would hit at the same time.

[SPEAKER_09]: And what we did, if you remember, so in the morning show weather hits, Owl still does this, you know, you do the national weather and then you say, here's what's happening in your neighborhood.

[SPEAKER_09]: And those, those are 30 second hits a set time.

[SPEAKER_09]: So we both threw to the local at the same time so that we would come out at the same time and be walking up next to each other.

[SPEAKER_09]: And I want to say something Gary, um, because you said, yeah, first you got to make sure Tony and I want to do it, um, I do remember this and there are plenty of things I don't remember, but I this was one of those things that you asked me and I clearly remember this.

[SPEAKER_09]: I thought it was a great idea and I think I probably said, uh,

[SPEAKER_09]: Okay, we'll call Shelley and good luck.

[SPEAKER_09]: I figured this is not, there's no way this is gonna happen.

[SPEAKER_09]: And Shelley, to her credit, who you as you know, super smart, super successful, and you know, and you do a great impression of her.

[SPEAKER_09]: We were our own little team on Good Morning America and, you know, and she pretty much trusted us to do what we were going to do, she kind of, you know, she didn't really think she needed to interact with us all that much.

[SPEAKER_09]: You know, and sometimes we wouldn't get what we want it, but sometimes we would and you know, for her to think immediately, oh, good idea.

[SPEAKER_09]: The average person retains 10 to 20% of any new information that they've received.

[SPEAKER_09]: So basically, you've forgotten just about everything that happened to you during the last week.

[SPEAKER_09]: I get this, I'm not, you know, when you think about it, you would think, oh, it's got to be 50% or something.

[SPEAKER_09]: No, the other day, so I get up in the morning, I take my shower, put on the odorant, get ready, get dressed, go to work.

[SPEAKER_09]: Later that day, there was, I was moving around a lot at work, and I started feeling like I was getting a little sweaty under my arms.

[SPEAKER_09]: Did I put deodorant on this morning?

[SPEAKER_09]: I could not remember if I had put it on or not.

[SPEAKER_09]: And part of me thought, you know, we all probably have routines.

[SPEAKER_09]: We do everything the same way every day, every morning.

[SPEAKER_09]: And I know I do that.

[SPEAKER_09]: If I got distracted for a couple of seconds, it's possible I didn't put it on.

[SPEAKER_07]: That's weird.

[SPEAKER_07]: Are you able to stop at your dry cleaners and maybe change the shirt and put the deodorant on there?

[SPEAKER_09]: Well, as you know, all my shirts, you know, all my shirts are at the dry cleaners at the one I'm wearing.

[SPEAKER_07]: I know you give it back.

[SPEAKER_07]: That's right.

[SPEAKER_09]: That's why stuff like every day.

[SPEAKER_07]: But you know what, in terms of this information, we're not saying that you forget everything.

[SPEAKER_07]: What we're saying is that we are so filled with information that over the last week, whatever you learned that was new,

[SPEAKER_07]: most of it is gone.

[SPEAKER_07]: So it's not like you forgot everything, but forgot a lot of the new things that happened over the course of the week.

[SPEAKER_05]: But I did, no I used to do a lot of boring stuff, but there was one show that talked a lot about brain stuff and it was horrible, but one thing I took away from it is when you're in REM sleep, at night when you're most deep asleep, that's when your brain moves short term memory stuff into your long term stuff.

[SPEAKER_05]: So the stuff that you keep happens during sleep, however, sometimes your brain gets mixed up and that's why you have weird dreams.

[SPEAKER_09]: Well, now here's something I've read about dreams and it relates to that, but it's a little bit different.

[SPEAKER_09]: I have read and this makes sense to me.

[SPEAKER_09]: When you wake up from a dream.

[SPEAKER_09]: You have like like something start on the happens in the dream and it wakes you up you have just awakened yourself out of an REM sleep or out of a period where the brain is organizing like you just said Rob and because we are linear thinkers.

[SPEAKER_09]: We want things to kind of make sense.

[SPEAKER_09]: You immediately put some kind of semblance of a story together.

[SPEAKER_09]: For all these jumbled things, that's why you say, this dream made no sense.

[SPEAKER_09]: I was with Gary.

[SPEAKER_09]: We were in a car, but we were... That makes no sense.

[SPEAKER_09]: It's the world, you know, whatever.

[SPEAKER_09]: Um, and well, yeah, that would make sense.

[SPEAKER_09]: But Gary and I, or we were on the Artemis, too, you know, and a big bowl of spaghetti went by the window.

[SPEAKER_09]: Whatever.

[SPEAKER_09]: But it's because you're interrupting the brain organizing and you're putting a story on it, which does make sense.

[SPEAKER_07]: You've got to try to figure out what that most of the time and I have no idea why you've dreamt anything, right?

[SPEAKER_09]: Does anyone even buy regular Tylenol?

[SPEAKER_06]: Well, if you think that generally, you only have a mild headache.
