<v Speaker 1>Wednesday, June third, twenty twenty six, you are listening to
<v Speaker 1>the Daily Dough Sports podcast and I am your host,
<v Speaker 1>Clinton Daily, coming to you from the my High City
<v Speaker 1>here in Denver, Colorado, and we are back for another
<v Speaker 1>week of talking sports with a dose of common sense. Hey,
<v Speaker 1>Happy Wednesday to you. I hope your week is going well.
<v Speaker 1>I hope you, your family, your friends are all staying
<v Speaker 1>strong and healthy right now. And don't look now, but yes,
<v Speaker 1>you are halfway to another weekend already. That's always a
<v Speaker 1>good thing. And let's start off right off the bat,
<v Speaker 1>because we had some big news take place on Monday
<v Speaker 1>in the NFL, of all places, because the Cleveland Browns
<v Speaker 1>put together a trade that is sending two time NFL
<v Speaker 1>Defensive Player of the Year Miles Garrett to the Los
<v Speaker 1>Angeles Rams for two time Pro Bowl pass rusher Jared Verse.
<v Speaker 1>The Browns will also get a first draft pick in
<v Speaker 1>twenty twenty seven, a second round pick in twenty twenty eight,
<v Speaker 1>and a third round pick in twenty twenty nine. Okay,
<v Speaker 1>so the Rams are pushing all of their chips into
<v Speaker 1>the middle of the table because the future holds nothing
<v Speaker 1>for them. It is all about the here and the now,
<v Speaker 1>the Rams will worry about the future some other day.
<v Speaker 1>They won a Super Bowl, and make the mistake, they
<v Speaker 1>are the favorites to win one. I mean, honestly, they
<v Speaker 1>already were the favorite. This just makes them that much better.
<v Speaker 1>And yet expectations can do crazy things to teams. And
<v Speaker 1>sometimes when you have those higher expectations, things start to
<v Speaker 1>go bad. It unravels quickly. And let's not forget about
<v Speaker 1>the help of quarterback Matt Stafford. Remember it's not like
<v Speaker 1>he was battling just that finger injury. He's battling a
<v Speaker 1>back injury for years now. And just go away. But
<v Speaker 1>I mean, remember the Rams spent this past year's first
<v Speaker 1>round pick on quarterback Ty Simpson. Hey, if Stafford ended
<v Speaker 1>up getting hurt, this could crash, and it could crash hard.
<v Speaker 1>On the other side, Hey, make the mistake. The Cleveland
<v Speaker 1>Browns are absolutely stacked with draft picks. The Browns should
<v Speaker 1>really be able to beep up their franchise over the
<v Speaker 1>next few years. Here's the only problem that might happen
<v Speaker 1>if the Browns weren't actually the team making the picks,
<v Speaker 1>Like if a different team was making the picks for them,
<v Speaker 1>then the Browns would really be onto something, but they're not.
<v Speaker 1>The Browns will make the picks. And I mean when
<v Speaker 1>you think back on the Browns making picks and you
<v Speaker 1>think of guys like Tim Couch, Danny Shelton, Justin Gilbert,
<v Speaker 1>Trent Richards, Gerard Warren Shade or Sanders, I mean, when
<v Speaker 1>those guys are on your resume, I'm gonna go ahead
<v Speaker 1>and have some doubts about what you might do with
<v Speaker 1>those picks. I mean, the Browns right now are going, Hey,
<v Speaker 1>think about this, what if we draft say, I don't
<v Speaker 1>know a Miles Garrett. Yeah, had a Miles Garrett. You
<v Speaker 1>didn't do anything with him. So I don't know that
<v Speaker 1>I have much faith in the Browns actually doing anything. Meanwhile,
<v Speaker 1>speaking of Miles Garrett, he goes to bed on Sunday
<v Speaker 1>night in Cleveland. There's no sun He has no help,
<v Speaker 1>he has no hope. He woke up yesterday with a
<v Speaker 1>new lease on life. He now has a team, he
<v Speaker 1>now has a coach, he now has a quarterback. He
<v Speaker 1>can actually see some sunshine. Sure, he's gonna have people
<v Speaker 1>pooping in his front yard. But on the whole, massive
<v Speaker 1>upgrade for Miles Garrett. And then you have Jared Verse,
<v Speaker 1>Jared Versus went to bed dreaming of a Super Bowl
<v Speaker 1>victory every single night, and now he's waking up every
<v Speaker 1>morning to absolute heartache and despair, and he now has
<v Speaker 1>to try to find a reason to just get out
<v Speaker 1>of bed every morning. If you think your Wednesday is
<v Speaker 1>bad today, if you think you're having a rough week,
<v Speaker 1>if you think you're having a rough day, just imagine
<v Speaker 1>being Jared Verse and remember things can always be a
<v Speaker 1>little bit worse. Hey, today on the Dose, the Stanley
<v Speaker 1>Cup Final and those NBA Finals are here, and we're
<v Speaker 1>going to be making our predictions for both of those
<v Speaker 1>series our daily Those top five is going to be
<v Speaker 1>making a return today after a few weeks off, and
<v Speaker 1>I'll give you a hit. It will be NFL flavored.
<v Speaker 1>But first, we do have some breaking sports news, and
<v Speaker 1>I want to start off in the world of college football,
<v Speaker 1>because while the federal government is busy doing I don't know,
<v Speaker 1>pretty much everything in his power to bring stability to
<v Speaker 1>college athletics, instead of actually doing their jobs, football and
<v Speaker 1>basketball continue operating right now in the world of college
<v Speaker 1>sports with like no oversight whatsoever. For basketball, we've seen
<v Speaker 1>teams time and time again trying to fill up their
<v Speaker 1>rosters with pro players. First it was Alabama. They added
<v Speaker 1>a kid who ended up being ruled ineligible, and then
<v Speaker 1>we talked about it a little bit last week. But
<v Speaker 1>the LSU Tigers are just turning to the pros to
<v Speaker 1>bolster their chances for competing in the SEC. In will
<v Speaker 1>Wade's first season back in Baton Rouge. Well, football isn't
<v Speaker 1>doing much better because we have an unchecked transfer portal
<v Speaker 1>and eligibility rules oh well, there aren't any, and so
<v Speaker 1>it's turning a sport that was already playing fast and
<v Speaker 1>loose with the rule book into just insanity. I would
<v Speaker 1>say wild West, but it feels a little bit wilder
<v Speaker 1>than wild West. Well, the NCAA has attempted to curb
<v Speaker 1>the free movement of players a little bit. They closed
<v Speaker 1>that spring transfer portal window and created just one portal
<v Speaker 1>period in January. However, we knew it was only a
<v Speaker 1>matter of time before someone attempted to exploit that as well. Well,
<v Speaker 1>here it is, we've got one. It seems that UCLA
<v Speaker 1>quarterback slash wide receiver Carson Gordon is attempting to hit
<v Speaker 1>the transfer portal. Here's the catch. Not as a college
<v Speaker 1>football player, No, the redshirt sophomore is reportedly going into
<v Speaker 1>the portal as he is getting ready to play football
<v Speaker 1>for UCLA as a scholarship track athlete, though he intends
<v Speaker 1>to be a two sport athlete and continue playing football
<v Speaker 1>at the next school as well. So he's getting ready
<v Speaker 1>to play football for UCLA. He's also in the transfer
<v Speaker 1>portal at the same time. This is my numming. The
<v Speaker 1>NCAA's track and field transferportal window just open this week
<v Speaker 1>and will remain open until June twenty sixth, and there
<v Speaker 1>are no rules that say he can't participate in booth
<v Speaker 1>track and football next year. So Gordon was a track
<v Speaker 1>and field athlete both in high school and at UCLA,
<v Speaker 1>So I mean, maybe he's capable of earning that scholarship
<v Speaker 1>to another program. But I mean, I'm just looking at
<v Speaker 1>this as yet another example that other kids are going
<v Speaker 1>to try to copy. Here's the thing, this is just
<v Speaker 1>another method of trying to skirt all the rules that
<v Speaker 1>they're putting out there because there is no governing body
<v Speaker 1>right now in college athletics. I mean, it's not brand new.
<v Speaker 1>We know football players who ran track in high school
<v Speaker 1>would earn track scholarships in college and then walk onto
<v Speaker 1>their football team. You might remember a guy named Santana
<v Speaker 1>Moss doing that down at Miami. But when I see
<v Speaker 1>these players doing things like this, it just makes me
<v Speaker 1>more and more pessimistic about anything ever fixing college athletics,
<v Speaker 1>because as long as there are rules, there will be
<v Speaker 1>people trying to break those rules. And when we don't
<v Speaker 1>have a true governing body saying no, no, no, we're
<v Speaker 1>gonna have you sit out. You don't get to do this,
<v Speaker 1>you don't get to just jump around all you want, well,
<v Speaker 1>then it's gonna keep happening. You're gonna have to implement
<v Speaker 1>a salary cap, You're gonna have to limit all the
<v Speaker 1>transferring all over the place. But right now the TOOTHPAS
<v Speaker 1>is out of the two and I don't know how
<v Speaker 1>you get it back in. But this is just another
<v Speaker 1>example of there being no laws right now in college sports.
<v Speaker 1>One last story, and I hate to end on this
<v Speaker 1>in our new segment, but a sad story in the
<v Speaker 1>NHL last week that hit kind of close to home
<v Speaker 1>here in Colorado, as former winger Claude Lemieux died they say,
<v Speaker 1>by suicide at the age of sixty last Thursday. Now,
<v Speaker 1>Claude Lalmieux played nearly fifteen hundred NHL game with six
<v Speaker 1>different teams from eighty three to two thousand and nine.
<v Speaker 1>He was known for his hard hitting style, but he
<v Speaker 1>was also known for his ability to perform in big games,
<v Speaker 1>and that guy won Stanley Cups four different times. Now,
<v Speaker 1>Leamu's family did announce over the weekend that his brain
<v Speaker 1>is being donated to the Boston University CTE Center to
<v Speaker 1>research the long term effects of repetitive brain injuries. But again,
<v Speaker 1>this is so sad. Lemieux had actually just served as
<v Speaker 1>the Montreal Canadians torch bearer before a playoff game, just
<v Speaker 1>like a little over a week ago, and the family
<v Speaker 1>has said that they gave the CTE Center permission to
<v Speaker 1>publicly share any findings with Lemieu's name, adding that no
<v Speaker 1>conclusions should be drawn regarding of what they do find.
<v Speaker 1>But hey, Lemieux was a tough guy and he always
<v Speaker 1>seemed to come up big in big bumus. And I
<v Speaker 1>know that everyone remembers his fight with Darren McCarty when
<v Speaker 1>the Colorado Avalanche were in that heated rivalry with the
<v Speaker 1>Detroit Red Wings, but he did far more than that
<v Speaker 1>Lemieue scored nearly eight hundred points, and it seemed like
<v Speaker 1>he came up with big goals in big times. But
<v Speaker 1>I've got one other unique bit of trivia on Claude Lemieux.
<v Speaker 1>You might not know this, here's one you should hold
<v Speaker 1>on to. Did you know Claude Lemieue's son, Brendan was
<v Speaker 1>a left winger in the NHL. He played for five
<v Speaker 1>NHL teams over seven seasons. But here is the bit
<v Speaker 1>of trivia that you might want to hold on to
<v Speaker 1>win yourself something at the bar with this. Did you
<v Speaker 1>know Claude Lemieux and his son Brendan are the only
<v Speaker 1>father son duo to both be punished by the NHL
<v Speaker 1>for fighting other players. Yeah, I would say the Colorado
<v Speaker 1>Avalanche could have used Claude Lemieux this season. So the
<v Speaker 1>twenty twenty six NBA Finals will tip off tonight in
<v Speaker 1>San Antonio after the San Antonio Spurs upset the defending
<v Speaker 1>champion Oklahoma City Thunder in Game seven of the Western
<v Speaker 1>Conference Finals on Saturday night. Hey, the Thunder just ran
<v Speaker 1>out of gas after suffering a number of injuries, and
<v Speaker 1>their shooting is what really suffered. They couldn't knock down
<v Speaker 1>a basket late in that game. Also something crazy to
<v Speaker 1>think about with the Thunder because they have been the
<v Speaker 1>young team that should be able to stay on top
<v Speaker 1>for a while. Right. Remember this, chet Holmgren's five year,
<v Speaker 1>multi million dollar extension is going to kick in this summer.
<v Speaker 1>Here's what it looks like next year. Forty one million,
<v Speaker 1>twenty eight, forty five million, twenty nine, forty eight million,
<v Speaker 1>thirty fifty one million, and he'll finish that contract out
<v Speaker 1>at fifty five million bucks. That might turn out to
<v Speaker 1>be a franchise changer, especially when he was so bad
<v Speaker 1>against the Spurs. He averaged ten points, but he had
<v Speaker 1>just four points and two turnovers in Game seven, and
<v Speaker 1>it looks like he didn't want to shoot it. It
<v Speaker 1>looked like he was kind of scared to go against Wemby.
<v Speaker 1>He kind of looked like he lost his mojo against
<v Speaker 1>the Spurs. We will see if the Thunder making the
<v Speaker 1>off season moves and what they do going forward with
<v Speaker 1>chet Holmgren. But I'll say this, at least we've all
<v Speaker 1>been spared having to watch the Oklahoma City Thunder and
<v Speaker 1>the finals with that brand of flopping, referee manipulation, style
<v Speaker 1>of games. I wouldn't watch it. I'll be very honest
<v Speaker 1>with you. So now we get a Spurst. Meanwhile, the
<v Speaker 1>New York Knicks have been sitting and have been waiting
<v Speaker 1>since May twenty fifth, after they swap the Cleveland Cavaliers
<v Speaker 1>in the Eastern Conference finals. Okay, so let's break this down.
<v Speaker 1>Who is going to come out on top in these
<v Speaker 1>NBA Finals. Let's take a quick look and see if
<v Speaker 1>we can figure this out. Early bets coming in. We're
<v Speaker 1>actually coming in on the Knicks. We'll see what late
<v Speaker 1>money does later today and tonight. Now, first up, the
<v Speaker 1>New York Knicks might come from the weaker Eastern Conference.
<v Speaker 1>Make no mistake, though, this team is not soft. The
<v Speaker 1>Knicks stormed via that Eastern Conference. They won eleven consecutive
<v Speaker 1>games by an average of nearly twenty four points per
<v Speaker 1>game to reach the NBA Finals for the first time
<v Speaker 1>since nineteen ninety nine. Now, if you remember nineteen ninety nine,
<v Speaker 1>the Knicks went all the way there and then their
<v Speaker 1>title hopes were dashed by Yep, you guessed it, the
<v Speaker 1>San Antonio Spurs with a talented young big man, but
<v Speaker 1>that time his name was Tim Duncan. But hey, make
<v Speaker 1>no mistake. The Knicks have the league's most tortured fan base.
<v Speaker 1>They have been painfully close to the number of times.
<v Speaker 1>But remember the Knicks haven't won a title in over
<v Speaker 1>fifty years. But I'll say this, this team is capable
<v Speaker 1>of changing that. Point Guard Jalen Brunson, he has proven
<v Speaker 1>to be one of the toughest and most clutch players
<v Speaker 1>in the NBA. Wingman Michale Bridges is proving to be
<v Speaker 1>one of the most efficient players in the league. Josh
<v Speaker 1>Hart another versatile wing. He can play defense, he can
<v Speaker 1>shoot it. And Carl Anthony Towns has been stepping up
<v Speaker 1>his game in a big way. And I know, I know,
<v Speaker 1>we look at Carl Anthony Towns and he's kind of silly.
<v Speaker 1>It's kind of the Caleb Williams of the NBA. But
<v Speaker 1>I'm telling you he's playing really well. The Knicks defense
<v Speaker 1>has been absolutely stifling in the playoffs. The Knicks are
<v Speaker 1>allowing less than ninety four points per game in the postseason.
<v Speaker 1>And while no, they haven't faced the same competition as
<v Speaker 1>the West, the Knicks are going to be a problem.
<v Speaker 1>This team is not an accident. They are here because
<v Speaker 1>they deserve it. And I'll say one other thing. Remember
<v Speaker 1>the core of this team is those Villanova boys. Hey,
<v Speaker 1>they expect to win. Those kids are tough. There is
<v Speaker 1>not going to be any well, we're just happy to
<v Speaker 1>be here. Oh no, no, no. They think they can
<v Speaker 1>win it all, and you know what they can. On
<v Speaker 1>the other side, we have the surprise the postseason. As
<v Speaker 1>we have all been impressed with what Victor wembin Yama
<v Speaker 1>and the San Antonio Spurs have been doing. But I
<v Speaker 1>think we all thought they were like a year away,
<v Speaker 1>and to be honest, they probably were a year away.
<v Speaker 1>But then, like I said, the Oklahoma City Thunder has
<v Speaker 1>a few injuries and the Spurs have done some major
<v Speaker 1>growing up very quickly. Remember that last year at this time,
<v Speaker 1>we were all worried that Victor Wembinyama was having those
<v Speaker 1>blood clots in his legs. And now here we are.
<v Speaker 1>But it's not just a one man team with Wemby.
<v Speaker 1>Stephan Castle is in just his third season. That kid
<v Speaker 1>plays like a veteran, though Daron Fox is still an
<v Speaker 1>absolute jet and a veteran. And then you've got rookie
<v Speaker 1>Dylan Harper who just keeps coming up with big plays
<v Speaker 1>and clutch times but going into the series. There are
<v Speaker 1>a few things that I want to watch in this
<v Speaker 1>series that are going to be very, very revealing. Keep
<v Speaker 1>an eye on these things. First, how will the Knicks
<v Speaker 1>defend Wemby? Because remember that Karl Anthony Towns. He has
<v Speaker 1>a tendency to get himself into foul trouble, sometimes with
<v Speaker 1>silly fouls like eighty feet from the basket. So I
<v Speaker 1>think the Knicks are gonna have to go with defense
<v Speaker 1>by committee against Wemby. Give him different looks, don't let
<v Speaker 1>him get comfortable. I want to see in this series.
<v Speaker 1>Who can consistently rebound. The Knicks love to crash the
<v Speaker 1>offensive glass. They love to grind out a few extra
<v Speaker 1>offensive possessions. Here's the problem. Wemby doesn't allow that very often.
<v Speaker 1>He cleans that glass pretty good. The Spurs are a
<v Speaker 1>very good rebounding team. If the Knicks are unable to
<v Speaker 1>get offensive boards, then their offense is gonna have to
<v Speaker 1>be highly efficient in other ways. They can't miss as
<v Speaker 1>many shots. I want to see how the Spurs go
<v Speaker 1>about trying to defend Jalen Brunson. Do they put dearon
<v Speaker 1>fox on him and go lefty point guard versus lefty
<v Speaker 1>point guard or do they put Stephan Castle on him
<v Speaker 1>and see if they can't wear him down a little
<v Speaker 1>bit That might pay off later in the series. And
<v Speaker 1>how will the Spurs play against Carl Anthony Towns. Will
<v Speaker 1>they just let Wemby roam around the paint and just
<v Speaker 1>kind of play that one man's own. If so, then
<v Speaker 1>Kat and those other Knicks players they have got to
<v Speaker 1>make them pay by shooting the ball effectively. Keep this
<v Speaker 1>in mind, the Knicks loved that corner three and it
<v Speaker 1>has been very good to them. If they can knock
<v Speaker 1>that down, it's gonna change some things. Now. The Knicks
<v Speaker 1>won the season series against the Spurs two to one,
<v Speaker 1>and I think if the Knicks shoot it well, I
<v Speaker 1>think they can win this series as well. But I
<v Speaker 1>also think the Spurs have been tested in the playoffs
<v Speaker 1>way more than New York casts. The Knicks have faced
<v Speaker 1>the Hawks, the seventy six Ers, and the Cavaliers. Meanwhile,
<v Speaker 1>the Spurs were going against the Trailblazers, but then the
<v Speaker 1>Timberwolves and the Thunder. Yet that isn't close. The Spurs
<v Speaker 1>are way more tested. I'm going to say this is
<v Speaker 1>a close series, but I'm going to take the Spurs
<v Speaker 1>to win in six. But I'm actually expecting an entertaining series,
<v Speaker 1>and unlike if the Thunder had been in it, I
<v Speaker 1>actually think this might actually be more watchable. Meanwhile, over
<v Speaker 1>in the NHL, a Stanley Cup Final began last night
<v Speaker 1>in Raleigh, North Carolina, as the Carolina Hurricanes hosted the
<v Speaker 1>Vegas Golden Knights. Vegas actually managed to steal home ice
<v Speaker 1>last night by getting a win in Game one, but
<v Speaker 1>this series could be highly competitive to the very end.
<v Speaker 1>The knock on Carolina under head coach Rod Brindemore has
<v Speaker 1>been that while they're very good defensively, every year, they
<v Speaker 1>can't score goals when they have to. That hasn't been
<v Speaker 1>the case this season. Before this postseason, the Hurricanes ranked
<v Speaker 1>eighth in playoff scoring. Since Brendanmore took over back in
<v Speaker 1>twenty nineteen, they average two point eight to nine goals
<v Speaker 1>per game. This season, that number has jumped significantly up
<v Speaker 1>to three point three to zero goals per game. That's
<v Speaker 1>a lot. Their defense has still been strong. Goalie Frederick
<v Speaker 1>Anderson has not had that meltdown game that we have
<v Speaker 1>seen him have at times. There are Knights Anderson goes
<v Speaker 1>out and just gives up a bunch of garbage. He
<v Speaker 1>hasn't done that this year. And while I know that
<v Speaker 1>the knock against Carolina has been well, they've kind of
<v Speaker 1>had a soft path to the finals in that Eastern Conference.
<v Speaker 1>They swept Ottawa, they swept Philadelphia, and then they beat
<v Speaker 1>Montreal in five games. I mean, when you look at Vegas,
<v Speaker 1>they haven't really played a murderer's row either. The Golden
<v Speaker 1>Knights needed six games to beat Utah and six games
<v Speaker 1>to beat Anaheim before that shocking sweep of the Colorado Avalanche.
<v Speaker 1>So based on who they faced in the postseason, Carolina
<v Speaker 1>went up against the ninth ranked team, the eleventh and
<v Speaker 1>the six ring team. Solid Vegas eliminated the fifteenth team,
<v Speaker 1>the eighteenth team, and then the number one team in
<v Speaker 1>the regular season. Sandys. Now, to be completely fair, and
<v Speaker 1>I promise this isn't sour grapes, Vegas didn't really get
<v Speaker 1>the true Colorado Avalanche when they swept them. Not when
<v Speaker 1>Cale mccarr missed the first two games he clearly wasn't himself,
<v Speaker 1>Not when Nathan McKinnon was injured and was playing on
<v Speaker 1>one leg the last two games, Not when Colorado was
<v Speaker 1>also missing Valerie Nichushkin, Archery Lekinen and Sam Malensky for
<v Speaker 1>big stretches of that series. Having said that Vegas is
<v Speaker 1>without a doubt the hot team right now, their defense
<v Speaker 1>has been suffocating. Head coach John Tortorella has made all
<v Speaker 1>the right moves because remember it was at the end
<v Speaker 1>of March that the Knights fired head coach Bruce Cassidy
<v Speaker 1>and named Tortorella the new head coach. There were just
<v Speaker 1>eight games left in the regular season, but following that change,
<v Speaker 1>Vegas finished the regular season going seven oh to one,
<v Speaker 1>and then they have been red hot in the postseason,
<v Speaker 1>going twelve and four on their way to the final. Also,
<v Speaker 1>remember that he won a Stanley Cup in Tampa back
<v Speaker 1>in two thousand and four. Goaltender Carter Hart has been
<v Speaker 1>playing amazing for Vegas in the postseason. Defenseman Mark Stone
<v Speaker 1>is one of the best in the business. Now, the
<v Speaker 1>Hurricanes are the favorite in the series, and I think
<v Speaker 1>they're gonna be really tough, but I'm gonna do something
<v Speaker 1>stupid and I'm gonna take Vegas to scrape out a
<v Speaker 1>Stanley Cup win. Make my pick Vegas in six. Hey,

<v Speaker 1>We need to get over to our daily dose top five.
<v Speaker 1>So last week, the NFL announced that, after much consideration
<v Speaker 1>of a few different social justice slogans, they are going
<v Speaker 1>to have a few new end zone slogans that are
<v Speaker 1>going to appear on fields this season. They include Inspire
<v Speaker 1>Change and Choose Love Now. These social justice and unifying
<v Speaker 1>messages are stenciled at the thirty two home stadiums and
<v Speaker 1>in the end zones at international games. As well as
<v Speaker 1>a part of the league's cause campaigns. The NFL will
<v Speaker 1>also still include the slogans it all of us and
<v Speaker 1>racism and stop hate from past seasons. But the new ones,
<v Speaker 1>like I said, will be inspire change and choose love.
<v Speaker 1>And you know, all these slogans are absolutely adorable. And
<v Speaker 1>I cannot even begin to tell you how many times
<v Speaker 1>I was on my way out the door, getting ready
<v Speaker 1>to commit a few random acts of Sensus violence, and
<v Speaker 1>then I read the end Zone slogans of my favorite
<v Speaker 1>team and decided, you know what, maybe I'd better change
<v Speaker 1>my tune. As I rained blows upon him, I realized
<v Speaker 1>that had to be another way. They aren't just social
<v Speaker 1>justice slogans. They are true life changers. But remember one
<v Speaker 1>specific thing. The Daily Dose IT team is always hard
<v Speaker 1>at work, and the Daily Dose I team has been
<v Speaker 1>all over the story. Oh it sounds absolutely lovely to
<v Speaker 1>hear those slogans that the NFL is going to be using,
<v Speaker 1>But what about the ones that ended up in the
<v Speaker 1>trash can after deliberation? Today, our Daily Dose Top five
<v Speaker 1>is counting down the top five rejected social justice slogans.
<v Speaker 1>Our I team goes where no one else can go
<v Speaker 1>to find the information that no one else can know.
<v Speaker 1>Want some proof? Buck up, because I've got it. Coming
<v Speaker 1>in at number five, we have a slogan that was
<v Speaker 1>voted down, even though I think we all know this
<v Speaker 1>slogan is followed over and over and over again. It
<v Speaker 1>was primarily to be used in Arrowhead Stadium this year
<v Speaker 1>in Kansas City, but honestly it could be used anywhere
<v Speaker 1>the Chiefs are playing and just be used as needed.
<v Speaker 1>But I think a slogan in the end zone telling
<v Speaker 1>the NFL camera operators to show Taylor Swift Again, I
<v Speaker 1>don't know. It just seems like it kind of crosses
<v Speaker 1>a line of some kind. I think that's just a
<v Speaker 1>little too far, and I'm glad that show Taylor Swift
<v Speaker 1>Again is not going to be painted in the NFL
<v Speaker 1>end zones, even though I think we all know the
<v Speaker 1>NFL is going to keep doing it. They just can't
<v Speaker 1>be so obvious about it. Be a little more subtle.
<v Speaker 1>NFL Show Taylor Swift Again comes in today at number five.
<v Speaker 1>We arrive at number four, and this is one that
<v Speaker 1>had to be close to making it because do you
<v Speaker 1>ever drive on the freeway and they have those lighted
<v Speaker 1>signs with the messages on them, and they usually say
<v Speaker 1>something stupid like buckle up for safety, as if every
<v Speaker 1>car since like nineteen ninety five hasn't made you fasten
<v Speaker 1>your seat belt or a China sounding incessantly. Look, you
<v Speaker 1>can put that up if you want to. I'd much
<v Speaker 1>rather have those signs say something like left lane is
<v Speaker 1>for passing only move over. That would be a good
<v Speaker 1>reminder for drivers, But they don't do that. They say
<v Speaker 1>things like roads could be wet. Well, that might be
<v Speaker 1>beneficial if I didn't have eyes, but I do well
<v Speaker 1>with the number of NFL players that I see violating
<v Speaker 1>this next one, it seems like it might have been
<v Speaker 1>beneficial to just dencil obey the speed limit in each
<v Speaker 1>end zone in the country. But they're I go, making
<v Speaker 1>sense again, But I mean, think about it. Nolan Smith, Miles,
<v Speaker 1>Garrett Rashid, Rice, Jordan Addison, Jalen Carter, Henry Ruggs. The
<v Speaker 1>list goes on and on and on. The NFL win
<v Speaker 1>a different route, but obey the speed limit, Yeah, would
<v Speaker 1>have been better. And it comes in today at number four.
<v Speaker 1>We reached number three today and this one would have
<v Speaker 1>also been a good option too, because sometimes NFL players,
<v Speaker 1>how could I say this? They need to be reminded
<v Speaker 1>of things. We have to remember that these guys do
<v Speaker 1>smash their heads into things for a living. But I
<v Speaker 1>want you to think about this. What do Justin Tucker,
<v Speaker 1>Deshaun Watson, Jabrill Peppers, Brandon McManus, Darren Sharper, c J. Spillman,
<v Speaker 1>Dana Stubblefield, and Lawrence Taylor all have in common. They
<v Speaker 1>have all been accused of some sort of let's say,
<v Speaker 1>sexual misconduct. And that might be putting it nicely, but
<v Speaker 1>can you imagine if you tuned in for say, the
<v Speaker 1>Wednesday Night opener this year between the New England Patriots
<v Speaker 1>and the Seattle Seahawks, and you saw in the end
<v Speaker 1>zone no means no practical yes needed clearly, but the
<v Speaker 1>NFL rejected that slogan. According to our daily Dose, itam
<v Speaker 1>and it comes in today at number three. We arrive
<v Speaker 1>at number two on our list of NFL slogans that
<v Speaker 1>were nominated for use to be spray painted in the
<v Speaker 1>end zone this year but were ultimately rejected, And we
<v Speaker 1>get to one that would have been a good reminder
<v Speaker 1>because we talked about it a little bit earlier. But
<v Speaker 1>research from Boston University and the Department of Veteran Affairs
<v Speaker 1>has identified ct in over ninety one percent of former
<v Speaker 1>NFL players. Now, remember this figure comes from donated brains,
<v Speaker 1>so it's not exactly correct because not everyone don't. But
<v Speaker 1>let's be honest, the NFL doesn't really want you thinking
<v Speaker 1>about CTE. And let's take it one step further. The
<v Speaker 1>NFL really doesn't care about CTE until a little bit
<v Speaker 1>later when it hits them in the pocketbook. But if
<v Speaker 1>they painted take CTE seriously unless it's an important game
<v Speaker 1>in the end zone, I feel like it would just
<v Speaker 1>be way too honest. And we do know that players
<v Speaker 1>do have some culpability here too. I mean, you see
<v Speaker 1>a player get blasted in the head and they immediately
<v Speaker 1>grab their ankle and they limp over the blue tenant.
<v Speaker 1>We know it wasn't their ankle, we all saw it
<v Speaker 1>was their skull, but they limp in holding their ankle.
<v Speaker 1>They have an ankle X ray done, which of course
<v Speaker 1>comes back clean, and they head right back out on
<v Speaker 1>the field, despite the fact that on the TV we
<v Speaker 1>can actually see the little cartoon burds fluttering around their heads.
<v Speaker 1>But hey, if it's a big game, rub some dirt
<v Speaker 1>on that dent in your cranium and get back in there.
<v Speaker 1>Remember we should be taking CTE seriously well, I mean,
<v Speaker 1>because it's a big game, right, and that comes in
<v Speaker 1>at number two. So we reached the number one rejected
<v Speaker 1>NFL slogan to be painted on end zones across the league,
<v Speaker 1>and this one, I am told was really close. But ultimately,
<v Speaker 1>according to our daily Dose It team findings that finds
<v Speaker 1>those stories no one else can, this one ultimately came
<v Speaker 1>up a little short. But again, the league wants to
<v Speaker 1>put out messages in their end zone that are going
<v Speaker 1>to strike a chord and do some good in the world. Well,
<v Speaker 1>if they really wanted to do some good in the world,
<v Speaker 1>they should probably address the real issues, not some silly
<v Speaker 1>word solid nonsense that doesn't mean anything. I mean, if
<v Speaker 1>you say to people, it takes all of us, okay,
<v Speaker 1>inspire change like it sounds lovely but doesn't really address
<v Speaker 1>real world problems. Of course not well. Since twenty twenty,
<v Speaker 1>well over one hundred NFL players have been accused of
<v Speaker 1>domestic violence. But it seems that stop beating your wives
<v Speaker 1>just didn't have the same ring to it as inspire change.
<v Speaker 1>But trust me on this, the NFL needs that message
<v Speaker 1>on their fields way more than these silly generic slogans
<v Speaker 1>that they're going to be putting out there again. Hey,
<v Speaker 1>next week on the Dose, I have something a little
<v Speaker 1>different for you, but it's going to be NBA flavored
<v Speaker 1>and it just might have a heavy dose of that
<v Speaker 1>NBA draft involved, which is coming later this month. Don't
<v Speaker 1>forget about that. So be sure you tune into the
<v Speaker 1>Dose and be sure you let a friend know to
<v Speaker 1>do the same. Hey, Wanta said. Thank you to each
<v Speaker 1>and every one of you for listening to The Daly
<v Speaker 1>Dose every week. Thank you for the emails, thank you
<v Speaker 1>the text, thank for the tweets, but more than anything,
<v Speaker 1>thank you for sharing the show, for sharing the videos,
<v Speaker 1>and for sharing the articles with someone that you know
<v Speaker 1>we absolutely love it when you do that. I have
<v Speaker 1>to thank you to JESSP. Could not do any of
<v Speaker 1>this without you. I will see you all next Wednesday.
<v Speaker 1>Have a great week, everybody. As a rain blows upon him,
<v Speaker 1>I realized there had to be another way.
