<v Speaker 1>Charity Katie and Josh one hundred much.
<v Speaker 2>Just came in from Mandy. It's kind of long. I'll
<v Speaker 2>try to zip through this.
<v Speaker 3>A couple weekends ago, I went to a charity fundraiser
<v Speaker 3>for Hunger with three of my girlfriends.
<v Speaker 2>It was supposed to be a classy night out.
<v Speaker 3>We got dressed up, had dinner, and started enjoying the
<v Speaker 3>open bar. The problem is, we enjoyed that bar a
<v Speaker 3>little too much. As the night went on, my friends
<v Speaker 3>and I got louder and louder, and we were laughing
<v Speaker 3>at everything, yelling across the table, and being way more
<v Speaker 3>obnoxious than we realized at the time. She goes on
<v Speaker 3>to say, now, looking back, I'm pretty sure people around
<v Speaker 3>us were getting annoyed. I can remember seeing a few
<v Speaker 3>people staring at us and making comments.
<v Speaker 2>Then came the live auction.
<v Speaker 3>At some point a trip to CanCon came up for bidding.
<v Speaker 3>I vaguely remember joking around and waving my paddle. What
<v Speaker 3>I don't remember is somehow ending up as the winning
<v Speaker 3>bidder for a three thousand dollars vacation package. Apparently, after
<v Speaker 3>I won, I rushed over to pay for it because
<v Speaker 3>I was embarrassed and wanted to get out of there.
<v Speaker 2>My friends were being loud, I was wasted.
<v Speaker 3>I somehow handed over my credit card, signed whatever they
<v Speaker 3>put in front of me, and paid the three grand.
<v Speaker 2>Now, she says, get this JKJ.
<v Speaker 3>The next morning, I woke up and I saw the
<v Speaker 3>credit alert on my phone and I nearly barfed. I
<v Speaker 3>can't afford this trip, My husband says, being drunk doesn't
<v Speaker 3>magically erase this purchase, and he is pissed. Piss Yeah,
<v Speaker 3>my girlfriends think I should call the auction company, explain
<v Speaker 3>the situation and ask if they would be willing to
<v Speaker 3>cancel it and offer the trip to the next highest bidder.
<v Speaker 2>But now I'm thinking about that. I was like, how
<v Speaker 2>do you know who was it? You wouldn't know.
<v Speaker 3>It's very good cause I feel terrible even thinking about
<v Speaker 3>asking for my money back. But I can't stop staring
<v Speaker 3>at this credit charge, wondering how.
<v Speaker 2>The hell I'm gonna pay for it. You guys think,
<v Speaker 2>do I have to own my mistake?
<v Speaker 3>Because I willingly paid for it that night and I
<v Speaker 3>was so drunk, is it reasonable to call and explain
<v Speaker 3>that I was eft up? She says, making a terrible
<v Speaker 3>decision and simply can't.
<v Speaker 2>Afford what I bought. Would love your thoughts.
<v Speaker 4>That's for Mandy, little drunk Mandy. Oh, compile a complete
<v Speaker 4>message to us. Mandy with her drinking problem. Okay, so
<v Speaker 4>what do you guys think about this?
<v Speaker 3>She was drunk at this auction, got a little bit happy,
<v Speaker 3>started bended, and wound up wound up with a three
<v Speaker 3>thousand dollars bill.
<v Speaker 2>She can't afford it? What should she do?
<v Speaker 3>Three zero three six nine to one sixteen forty nine.
<v Speaker 3>Would absolutely love to talk to some of our listeners. Yeah,
<v Speaker 3>if you guys want to sound off about this, absolutely, Katy.
<v Speaker 2>Have you ever been one of these experiences?
<v Speaker 5>I have been in this experience, but kind of on
<v Speaker 5>the receiving end, if you will. Because I was at
<v Speaker 5>an auction once and there were a couple people who
<v Speaker 5>were a little tipsy, and they were battling it out
<v Speaker 5>over a trip to Puntakana, right, and it was like,
<v Speaker 5>in the last couple moments of it, one of them bid,
<v Speaker 5>the other one tried to go higher, but the then
<v Speaker 5>and then it just ended. Right, They're both like, oh,
<v Speaker 5>I don't want to keep going. I don't want to
<v Speaker 5>keep going. So then I jumped in and I was
<v Speaker 5>just like, hey, I'll take it. So I kind of
<v Speaker 5>took advantage of the fact that they were both so
<v Speaker 5>they didn't know what was going on, and so it
<v Speaker 5>was like a perfect opportunity for me to swoop in
<v Speaker 5>and get.
<v Speaker 2>A trip to Punta Khana for three hundred bucks. That's
<v Speaker 2>what happened.
<v Speaker 1>That's where you go.
<v Speaker 5>So it's like, so I took advantage of the situation.
<v Speaker 5>So I've definitely been there when tables get a little
<v Speaker 5>rowdy at these auctions.
<v Speaker 2>You know, this happened to me like last month.
<v Speaker 6>I was at the horse racing thing that we went
<v Speaker 6>to for the Kentucky Derby, Kentucky Derby, that's right, and
<v Speaker 6>I was having a great time. The drinks were flowing,
<v Speaker 6>it was awesome. We had a couple of drink vouchers,
<v Speaker 6>so I got a couple drinks in me and I
<v Speaker 6>was like half listening and I heard essentially the auctioneer say,
<v Speaker 6>everybody raise their hand.
<v Speaker 2>That's what I heard.
<v Speaker 6>Yeah, I did not know the rest of the sentence
<v Speaker 6>was if you want to donate free to the foundation
<v Speaker 6>that we donated to. Yeah, so I raised my hand.
<v Speaker 6>I'm all excited, and all of a sudden they go,
<v Speaker 6>all right, one hundred dollars from you, hundred dollars from you,
<v Speaker 6>hundred dollars from you, And I was like, I had
<v Speaker 6>no clue what had just happened. Now, one hundred dollars
<v Speaker 6>is not three thousand dollars, but they took it out
<v Speaker 6>of my account right away. I was like, I got
<v Speaker 6>that income or that taken out of my credit card
<v Speaker 6>statement right off the bat. And I was like, oh, okay,
<v Speaker 6>we're giving one hundred dollars free to everybody tonight.
<v Speaker 2>There we go. They're taking it from us, not giving
<v Speaker 2>it to us. So I had.
<v Speaker 6>I literally was waving my hand. I heard them say
<v Speaker 6>raise your hands. I was like, all right, we're all
<v Speaker 6>putting our hands in the air well.
<v Speaker 5>And you'd look kind of like a big jerk if
<v Speaker 5>you ask for your money back from the charitey, right,
<v Speaker 5>you can't do that.
<v Speaker 3>So what should Mandy do about this? She was drunk
<v Speaker 3>with power, bidding like crazy at this event, and it
<v Speaker 3>was a fundraiser for hunger. She says she doesn't want
<v Speaker 3>to say what it was, but it sounds like a
<v Speaker 3>good cause.
<v Speaker 2>You know, what should she do about this?
<v Speaker 5>No, it's not like honestly, the onus is passed on
<v Speaker 5>to the person who you know is in question here.
<v Speaker 5>It really is like, I remember when that whole situation
<v Speaker 5>happened that I was alluding to where I got that
<v Speaker 5>trip to Punta Kana.
<v Speaker 4>Fast forward.
<v Speaker 2>We ended up.
<v Speaker 5>Misplacing those certificates and the people who ran the whole
<v Speaker 5>auction were like, yeah, we don't care. Now, you know,
<v Speaker 5>it's not their problem. They have nothing to do with it.
<v Speaker 5>And a lot of times people who you know, do
<v Speaker 5>run those auctions, they don't have a lot to do
<v Speaker 5>with the finals, say like people they donate those things
<v Speaker 5>are donated by people and foundations and organizations who then are.
<v Speaker 2>Like, they need the money.
<v Speaker 5>They need the money, we need the money, So they're
<v Speaker 5>not going to give it. Bet they're not willingly going
<v Speaker 5>to give it your money back.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah.
<v Speaker 3>A lot of people writing in and saying give it
<v Speaker 3>to the runner up, and.
<v Speaker 2>It was kind of alluded to in the email. I
<v Speaker 2>think too.
<v Speaker 3>But it's like, how do you know who was there
<v Speaker 3>bidding and who was the runner up?
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, I don't know.
<v Speaker 3>I've been to a lot of these events for schools
<v Speaker 3>and stuff, and I think a lot of these auction
<v Speaker 3>companies kind of thrive on the drunk atmosphere.
<v Speaker 2>Oh, absolutely, because.
<v Speaker 3>You become so cocky and like I said earlier, drunk
<v Speaker 3>with power, and you want to impress your friends while
<v Speaker 3>you're there because you're all dressed up and you want
<v Speaker 3>to seem like a big shot. Do you start bidding
<v Speaker 3>on everything. Yeah, and the auction companies they thrive on that.
<v Speaker 5>And some people put people in the crowd to drive
<v Speaker 5>up the bit. I don't know if you knew that.
<v Speaker 5>Some people are there just to make it. It's a planter. Yeah.
<v Speaker 2>Ah, here's Patty.
<v Speaker 1>Hey, Patty, good morning.
<v Speaker 2>Don't cost Patty. The other people were custing, don't worry. Okay,
<v Speaker 2>what do you think, Patty?
<v Speaker 1>Well, I've been sober seven years. And the reason I
<v Speaker 1>became sober it's not like I woke up and had
<v Speaker 1>a drink, But there were events or things that happen
<v Speaker 1>while you're drinking that used to are to say, maybe
<v Speaker 1>this has more control over me than I wanted to have.
<v Speaker 1>And every time she pays that credit card bill, she's
<v Speaker 1>gonna say, you know what, I may have to stop
<v Speaker 1>doing this. Yeah it's a wake up call, but I
<v Speaker 1>mean that's a small price to pay to be honest
<v Speaker 1>to wake up because you know, I'm hoping they got
<v Speaker 1>an uber to go home, but who knows. You know,
<v Speaker 1>if you if your judgment's impaired and you do stupid
<v Speaker 1>things when you're drinking, and you know people want to
<v Speaker 1>drink around me, go ahead. I'm fine with that. But
<v Speaker 1>when it happens to you and you're you have that
<v Speaker 1>kind of level of remorse, you have to pay attention
<v Speaker 1>to it.
<v Speaker 3>You have to pay attention to it, you.
<v Speaker 6>Know.
<v Speaker 1>And honestly, it was nothing. It was just like one
<v Speaker 1>time I was really obnoxious with my best friend and
<v Speaker 1>I I thought I ruined our friendship because I mean,
<v Speaker 1>I let her have it, man, And it was in
<v Speaker 1>a social gathering and everybody saw me do it, and
<v Speaker 1>you know, it wasn't anything. Like I even went to
<v Speaker 1>an AA meeting and they're like, what was your low point?
<v Speaker 1>And I'm like, I I yelled at my friend. Yeah.
<v Speaker 3>I feel like I must be drunk all the time
<v Speaker 3>because I'm obnoxious, like crazy to everybody I know.
<v Speaker 1>But you know, it's just after a while, you just
<v Speaker 1>start to say, this isn't who I am, and this
<v Speaker 1>isn't who I want to be. So I think it's
<v Speaker 1>a wake up call. And you know, if she's got
<v Speaker 1>to pay thirty dollars a month to pay that off,
<v Speaker 1>every time she writes that check, she'll say, you know
<v Speaker 1>what this was, I can't handle my alcohol.
<v Speaker 5>Hang up the bottle as accountability, Patty.
<v Speaker 2>This is a very wise phone call. It is Patty.
<v Speaker 5>I just want to say, I'll be sober nine years
<v Speaker 5>in September, and kind of the same thing where you
<v Speaker 5>just you get tired of waking up and wondering what
<v Speaker 5>happened the night before. Huh, Like I yelled at my friend.
<v Speaker 5>That's not cool. So good on you. Seven years coming up. Congratulations,
<v Speaker 5>Patty Cake, thank you, thank you, thank you.
<v Speaker 1>I'm glad you put this out there because I think
<v Speaker 1>it's a wake up call to you know, there's everybody
<v Speaker 1>listening and they're like, yeah, I've done that, you know,
<v Speaker 1>and been there. Yeah.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, Patty, thank you for the call. We appreciate you.
<v Speaker 1>You're welcome.
<v Speaker 2>All right, have a good day, you too, Baddy, Go
<v Speaker 2>enjoy an iced tea.
<v Speaker 5>She makes a really good point, though. I bet you
<v Speaker 5>she wouldn't have put up that three grand had she.
<v Speaker 2>Not been Yeah, that's wasted. Yeah, I think now that
<v Speaker 2>you were all wasted at.
<v Speaker 3>This event, you and your girlfriends that you start hitting
<v Speaker 3>up your girlfriends now, like we were all drunk, we
<v Speaker 3>were all obnoxious, we were all bidding. I think we
<v Speaker 3>need to split this and just kind of make it
<v Speaker 3>a girl's trip. Maybe maybe we all go enjoy it. Yeah,
<v Speaker 3>try to get some money out of your friends to
<v Speaker 3>help kind of recoup this cost because they were all involved.
<v Speaker 5>Yeah, make it a girl's trip, like, make it fun,
<v Speaker 5>go out and make a thing of it.
<v Speaker 3>And god, I hope it's not an all inclusive where
<v Speaker 3>all you can drink.
<v Speaker 2>Okay, I don't know what's gonna happen in Kankoon. Be careful. Yeah,
<v Speaker 2>good luck, Mandy,
