<v Speaker 1>and finally Argentina. They beat Argentina won to nothing on Sunday.

<v Speaker 1>Is that one nil? Is that we're gonna say whatever?

<v Speaker 1>They beat Argentina one nil on Sunday to complete their run. Hey,

<v Speaker 1>you know, Spain only managed that one goal in extra time.

<v Speaker 1>They got a goal from front Torres, but that Spain defense.

<v Speaker 1>They were absolutely dominant the entire tournament. Think about this

<v Speaker 1>for one second. In the twenty twenty six World Cup,

<v Speaker 1>there were three hundred and nine goals scored in the

<v Speaker 1>entire tournament. Spain allowed one. And I know the popular

<v Speaker 1>pick on Sunday was that Argentina and Line Messi they're

<v Speaker 1>gonna do it again, They're gonna win again. This is

<v Speaker 1>all fake, This is all fix, this is all predictable,

<v Speaker 1>and they made it interesting, but they could not get

<v Speaker 1>past that defense. Messi couldn't breathe all day. He barely

<v Speaker 1>even had a ball. Spain jumped on them from the

<v Speaker 1>beginning and dominated that game. That game, honestly, it felt

<v Speaker 1>like a four or five goal lead, but they just

<v Speaker 1>couldn't score. They just couldn't find one. One thing we

<v Speaker 1>have to discuss the halftime show. The halftime show was interesting.

<v Speaker 1>I mean making a mistake. It was a star studded

<v Speaker 1>event on Sunday. We had Shakira Shakira. We had BTS

<v Speaker 1>whatever that is. We had Justin Bieber. We had Kermit

<v Speaker 1>the Frog and Miss Piggy all on stage. What do

<v Speaker 1>you mean? We have Madonna? Where was Madonna? That was Madonna?

<v Speaker 1>Holy gow, I had no idea. I thought the opener

<v Speaker 1>was Miss Piggy by bad. I guess Madonna was there too,

<v Speaker 1>who knew? So the muppets were there and Madonna was there? Okay, well,

<v Speaker 1>wanted something today? I was sure I had seen the

<v Speaker 1>Muppets there. Here's a question, how does one go about

<v Speaker 1>booking Muppets? Do you just like call Scooter, call Kermit.

<v Speaker 1>more thing we need to touch on. We do have

<v Speaker 1>a bit of news to report this morning as NBA

<v Speaker 1>superstar Lebron James has been trying to decide where he

<v Speaker 1>will be playing next season, and right now we have

<v Speaker 1>some breaking news. And here's that news. No one cares. Hey,

<v Speaker 1>Today on the Dose, we are going to do something

<v Speaker 1>completely different. We've done a few of these shows in

<v Speaker 1>the past, but this week we will be bringing you

<v Speaker 1>our daily dose story time. You know, one of my

<v Speaker 1>favorite things in life, honestly is a good story. I

<v Speaker 1>love a good story, and sports stories have a particular

<v Speaker 1>special place in my heart. Hey, give me a great story. Cool,

<v Speaker 1>give me a great sports story, and one that I

<v Speaker 1>haven't heard before. That's gold. Go. So today I would

<v Speaker 1>be bringing you a few sports stories, and I'm gonna

<v Speaker 1>tell you right now, you probably haven't heard these ones before.

<v Speaker 1>In fact, let's jump in to our first one right now,

<v Speaker 1>and let's start off in the world of Major League Baseball.

<v Speaker 1>Have you ever heard the name Ed Head? Yeah? Probably

<v Speaker 1>not well. Edward Marvin Head was a young, talented kid

<v Speaker 1>born and raised in Louisiana. Ed was a left handed

<v Speaker 1>pitching phenom, and he was showing some serious skills as

<v Speaker 1>a teenager. And then his life actually would change dramatically

<v Speaker 1>because when Ed was just fifteen years old, tragedy struck.

<v Speaker 1>Ed was riding a school bus. He had his arm

<v Speaker 1>around his girlfriend's shoulder when the bus collided with another

<v Speaker 1>oncoming bus and the impact knocked Ed unconscious. When he

<v Speaker 1>came to, Ed saw his girlfriend was dead from the crash,

<v Speaker 1>and he saw his left arm, his pitching arm, had

<v Speaker 1>been ripped from its socket and was dangling by a thread.

<v Speaker 1>So Ed underwent a number of surgeries to save that arm,

<v Speaker 1>and actually doctors managed to avoid amputating his left arm.

<v Speaker 1>But they told him it's never gonna work right again.

<v Speaker 1>You suffered way too much muscle damage, you suffered way

<v Speaker 1>too much nerve damage. It's not going to be the same.

<v Speaker 1>Hope you find something else to do to pass the time,

<v Speaker 1>because baseball for you. Sorry to say it's over well.

<v Speaker 1>Ed Head was a determined young guy. Maybe it was

<v Speaker 1>that goofy naming guy. I don't know if you named

<v Speaker 1>ed Head, maybe you just got a bullhead. Once he recovered,

<v Speaker 1>ed went back to pitching. Well, he couldn't use his

<v Speaker 1>left arm, like I said, there was too much damage,

<v Speaker 1>so he taught himself to pitch right handed instead, and

<v Speaker 1>he actually became pretty good with the right hand too.

<v Speaker 1>How good. Well, In nineteen forty ed Head actually joined

<v Speaker 1>the Brooklyn Dodgers, but after compiling a record of just

<v Speaker 1>one and two, they sent him down to the minor

<v Speaker 1>leagues to get a little more work. Well, he returned

<v Speaker 1>in nineteen forty two and he was promoted to the

<v Speaker 1>team's starting rotation. He went ten and six for the season,

<v Speaker 1>not bad. In forty three, he wasn't quite as good.

<v Speaker 1>His record was nine to ten, but he recovered in

<v Speaker 1>nineteen forty four and started the season four and three.

<v Speaker 1>He had a career low ERA of two point seven zero.

<v Speaker 1>But then some more bad news for ed because America

<v Speaker 1>joined World War Two and young mister Head had to

<v Speaker 1>join the army. He had to fulfill his service obligation. Okay,

<v Speaker 1>well that should do it for his career, right, I mean,

<v Speaker 1>ed Head is not twenty five. He went away to

<v Speaker 1>the army. But again, ed Head was not like most people.

<v Speaker 1>He was a determined guy. After serving in the army

<v Speaker 1>and not pitching in the majors for most of forty

<v Speaker 1>four and all of forty five, he actually came back

<v Speaker 1>to baseball, took the mound on April twenty third, nineteen

<v Speaker 1>forty six, and he faced the Boston Braves in his

<v Speaker 1>first start of the season. Well, ed was not twenty eight.

<v Speaker 1>He hadn't pitched in like two years. But I'm that

<v Speaker 1>night ed Head could do no wrong. Head through a

<v Speaker 1>no hitter, going all nine innings and facing twenty five

<v Speaker 1>batters as the Dodgers beat the Braves five to nothing

<v Speaker 1>at home. Several weeks later, Head injured that right arm

<v Speaker 1>and he didn't pitch for the rest of the season.

<v Speaker 1>He managed to make spring training the next year, but

<v Speaker 1>he actually never pitched in the majors again. His no

<v Speaker 1>hitter was the last game he ever pitched. Ed Head

<v Speaker 1>had literally every excuse imaginable to not be a big

<v Speaker 1>league pitcher. Yeah, too bad. Not only did he make

<v Speaker 1>the big leagues, but he had an absolutely unforgettable game

<v Speaker 1>when he got there. Continuing with our daily to a

<v Speaker 1>story time, and of course we've all heard the story

<v Speaker 1>of the incomparable Jackie Robinson. Robinson broke the color line

<v Speaker 1>when he started at first base for the Brooklyn Dodgers

<v Speaker 1>back on April fifteenth, nineteen forty seven. The Dodger signing

<v Speaker 1>Robinson heralded the end of racial segregation in professional baseball,

<v Speaker 1>which had relegated black players to the Negro leagues since

<v Speaker 1>the eighteen eighties. Hey, it wasn't just baseball. Though Jackie

<v Speaker 1>was a four letter athlete at UCLA. He played football, baseball,

<v Speaker 1>ran track, and played basketball. Jackie Robinson is one of

<v Speaker 1>the greatest athletes in any era, and a lot of

<v Speaker 1>us know that story. But what you might not know

<v Speaker 1>is that Jackie was not the only athlete in the family.

<v Speaker 1>You see, Jackie was the youngest of five children born

<v Speaker 1>to Malley and Jerry Robinson. After siblings Edgar Frank, Matthew,

<v Speaker 1>who was nicknamed Mack, and then his sister willom May.

<v Speaker 1>The Robinson kids were born in Georgia, but were left

<v Speaker 1>fatherless at an early age, leaving their mother, Malle Robinson

<v Speaker 1>as the sole provider for five kids. Well, Malley performed

<v Speaker 1>a variety of manual labor tasks, but then she decided

<v Speaker 1>to head west and she moved with the kids to Pasadena, California.

<v Speaker 1>While the kids were still very young and at the

<v Speaker 1>start of middle school, Matthew known as Mack, was diagnosed

<v Speaker 1>with a heart murmur that got worse with age, and

<v Speaker 1>so he was advised to only play non contact sports. Well,

<v Speaker 1>Mack decided to run in track, and he's pretty good.

<v Speaker 1>He set national junior college records in the one hundred meter,

<v Speaker 1>two hundred meter and long jump while attending Pasadena Junior

<v Speaker 1>College and you would eventually go on to the University

<v Speaker 1>of Oregon. Well, it wasn't just his younger brother Jackie

<v Speaker 1>that stole man thunder, because Mack was actually good enough

<v Speaker 1>to make the nineteen thirty six USA Olympic team. He

<v Speaker 1>went to Berlin and he won the silver medal at

<v Speaker 1>the Summer Olympics in Berlin, finishing zero zero point four

<v Speaker 1>seconds behind another American, a young talented runner from the

<v Speaker 1>Ohio State University by the name of Jesse Owens. Now

<v Speaker 1>later in life, Mack was known for leading the fight

<v Speaker 1>against street crime in his hometown of Pasadena. The Pasadena

<v Speaker 1>Robinson Memorial is dedicated to both Mac and Jackie, but

<v Speaker 1>Mack died of complications from diabetes in March of two

<v Speaker 1>thousand at a hospital in Pasadena at the age of

<v Speaker 1>eighty five. And in addition to that Pasadena Robinson Memorial,

<v Speaker 1>the stadium of Pasadena City College was also dedicated to

<v Speaker 1>Mac in the year two thousand. Yes, he was overshadowed

<v Speaker 1>by his brother Jackie in the US, Andy was overshadowed

<v Speaker 1>by the great Jesse Owens in Berlin. But Matthew Mack Robinson,

<v Speaker 1>it was a pretty phenomenal athlete in his own right. Okay,

<v Speaker 1>let's move over to the world of the NBA. I

<v Speaker 1>know that the New York Knicks are one of the

<v Speaker 1>most popular teams on the planet right now, but understand this,

<v Speaker 1>The Knicks were also extremely popular back in the nineteen nineties.

<v Speaker 1>Madison Square Garden, which of course hosts the biggest musical

<v Speaker 1>acts on the planet, was booming back then because the

<v Speaker 1>Knicks were good. Head coach pat Riley had assembled a

<v Speaker 1>team of tough guys. They were not afraid to mix

<v Speaker 1>it up, and they were not afraid to do whatever

<v Speaker 1>it took to beat opponents. Patrick Ewing, Larry Johnson, Alan Houston,

<v Speaker 1>Anthony Mason, Hubert Davis, Charles Oakley, John Starks, and Charles

<v Speaker 1>Smith were a rough group that locked you up defensively

<v Speaker 1>and tried to push buttons and see if they could

<v Speaker 1>get you to start a fight and get you out

<v Speaker 1>of your game. Well, it seems those rough and tough

<v Speaker 1>Knicks were crossing over into the world of hip hop

<v Speaker 1>in a very disturbing way. We go back to March

<v Speaker 1>twenty fifth, nineteen ninety seven, sixteen days after the rapper

<v Speaker 1>Notorious Big was murdered in Los Angeles and Life After

<v Speaker 1>Death arrived, which was a landmark hip hop album. Buried

<v Speaker 1>on that album was track number twelve, which was titled

<v Speaker 1>I Got a Story to Tell. Well, let's break down

<v Speaker 1>this song's plot. I'm gonna paraphrase here. I'm gonna condense

<v Speaker 1>it a little bit, but it tells a wild tale.

<v Speaker 1>Biggie leaves a club with a woman who is driving

<v Speaker 1>a Mercedes, which he suspects isn't hers. She brings him

<v Speaker 1>back to the house, which has televisions and versace everywhere,

<v Speaker 1>and it's revealed in due time that the man this

<v Speaker 1>girl is cheating on with Biggie is a New York nick. Oh.

<v Speaker 1>Soon the nasty couple is messing around on the boyfriend's

<v Speaker 1>bed because he says the girl's boyfriend is gone playing

<v Speaker 1>against the utibe jazz. Then from downstairs they hear the

<v Speaker 1>front door the man is home early. Well, the notorious

<v Speaker 1>Big One came up with quite a cover for getting caught.

<v Speaker 1>The woman stalls the only way she can. She sends

<v Speaker 1>her enormous nick boyfriend downstairs to get her a drink,

<v Speaker 1>and her and Biggie come up with a plan. Here's

<v Speaker 1>biggie solution. It's a wild one. He wraps her scarf

<v Speaker 1>around his face, ties her up, gags her with a pillowcase,

<v Speaker 1>and pretends to be a home invader. Hey pretty inventive.

<v Speaker 1>Right when the boyfriend comes up, he's face to face

<v Speaker 1>with Biggie, who is acting now like an armed stranger.

<v Speaker 1>The supposed nick drops the glass and begs for his life.

<v Speaker 1>Biggie has impeeled back the carpet and he sees stacks

<v Speaker 1>of cash because apparently this next player didn't believe in

<v Speaker 1>banks and hit his cash in the house like a

<v Speaker 1>prohibition bootlegger. Biggie loves the money into a backpack, grabs

<v Speaker 1>the key, causes his boys on the way out, and

<v Speaker 1>delivers this sentence that gave the song its name. I

<v Speaker 1>got a story to tell. One more minor detail that

<v Speaker 1>must be mentioned in the outro. Biggie claims he never
