<v Speaker 1>Wednesday, July twenty nine, twenty twenty six, You are listening
<v Speaker 1>to the Daily Dose Sports podcast and I am your host,
<v Speaker 1>Clinton Daily, coming to you from the Myhi city here
<v Speaker 1>in Denver, Colorado, and we are back for another week
<v Speaker 1>of talking sports with a dose of common sense.
<v Speaker 2>Hey, Happy Wednesday to you. Hope your week is going well.
<v Speaker 1>Hope you, your family, your friends, everyone in your world
<v Speaker 1>is staying strong and help you right now. And of
<v Speaker 1>course what else could we open with the biggest news
<v Speaker 1>of the week in the sports world. Lebron James, after
<v Speaker 1>saying he seriously considered retirement, signed with the Philadelphia seventy
<v Speaker 1>six ers for his final run, he says at another
<v Speaker 1>NBA championship. He announced that on Friday. James is now
<v Speaker 1>forty one, and he signed a two year, eight million
<v Speaker 1>dollar contract with a player option. I remember or Lebron
<v Speaker 1>made nearly fifty three million with the Lakers last season,
<v Speaker 1>But in a series of posts on x, Lebron addressed
<v Speaker 1>his decision making, writing that he initially thought he was
<v Speaker 1>done playing after the season before taking time to decide
<v Speaker 1>on his future.
<v Speaker 2>Here's what Lebron had to say.
<v Speaker 1>I was honest at that last press conference when I said,
<v Speaker 1>I needed to look at myself and decided if I
<v Speaker 1>still love this game. But I still truly love this game,
<v Speaker 1>and I have more to give. James chose the seventy
<v Speaker 1>six Ers, which now is his fourth NBA team, as
<v Speaker 1>he searches for a fifth NBA championship before he retires.
<v Speaker 2>James will hope to break a forty three year.
<v Speaker 1>Championship dropped for the seventy six Ers, much the same
<v Speaker 1>way he ended a fifty two year drought without a
<v Speaker 1>title for the city of Cleveland when he won a
<v Speaker 1>championship for the Cavaliers back in twenty sixteen. But this
<v Speaker 1>will be James's final free agency choice as he enters
<v Speaker 1>a record breaking twenty four season. Lebron had more to say,
<v Speaker 1>this is my last decision. I'm not going for money
<v Speaker 1>or I'm not going for family. What am I really
<v Speaker 1>playing for at this point. I still want to sacrifice.
<v Speaker 1>I still want to work, I still want to grind.
<v Speaker 1>I still want to compete, to win and to have
<v Speaker 1>a chance at the feeling of winning another championship. I
<v Speaker 1>believe I can help the Philadelphia seventy six Ers that
<v Speaker 1>I'm so excited to energize a new fan base and
<v Speaker 1>start this incredible journey one last time. Okay, a few
<v Speaker 1>thoughts on this big move. First off, Lebron never considered retiring.
<v Speaker 1>Let's just throw that out. Here's a guy that chases
<v Speaker 1>likes more than anyone in the history of ever. So
<v Speaker 1>he was never going to just slip off quietly into Bolivia.
<v Speaker 2>Right. I don't know, man, I might have faded into
<v Speaker 2>Bolivia and you know, I mean second, Hey, this team
<v Speaker 2>is kind of loaded.
<v Speaker 1>Remember they have Joel Embiid, they have Tyrees Maxy, they
<v Speaker 1>have Vija Edgecombe, they have Dominic Barlow, and they picked
<v Speaker 1>up Jalen Brown a few weeks ago from Boston. Lebron
<v Speaker 1>is now back in the East, which is a much
<v Speaker 1>easier path than over in the West. Hey, the Sixers
<v Speaker 1>are not the team to beat in the NBA, and
<v Speaker 1>that will be kind of fun. Don't get me wrong.
<v Speaker 1>The big money will still come in on the Spurs
<v Speaker 1>and on the Thunder to be the champions. But over
<v Speaker 1>in the East, oh, it's the Sixers to lose. But
<v Speaker 1>here's what's going to be fun. The rest of the country,
<v Speaker 1>aside from Philadelphia and aside from just you know, Lebron
<v Speaker 1>slippers will all have one favorite team this year in
<v Speaker 1>the NBA. Whoever is playing against Philly, watch and see
<v Speaker 1>that's coming.
<v Speaker 2>But let's be real clear. Lebron didn't join this team
<v Speaker 2>by accident. He chose the team that he thought he
<v Speaker 2>could join and go get a title with, just like
<v Speaker 2>he did in Miami, just like he did do the
<v Speaker 2>second time in Cleveland, and just like he did in
<v Speaker 2>LA And make no mistake, they will win games. But
<v Speaker 2>I will call my shot now.
<v Speaker 1>He has a track history of leaving franchises in worse
<v Speaker 1>shape than when he arrived.
<v Speaker 2>So here's my message to Philadelphia.
<v Speaker 1>Enjoy the bride because you're going to pay for it
<v Speaker 1>in years to come. I can prove that's how it's
<v Speaker 1>going to end. That's how it always ends. But I
<v Speaker 1>am interested in a few storylines here. One, how will
<v Speaker 1>Philly fans, some of the most belligerent fans on the planet,
<v Speaker 1>treat Lebron, especially.
<v Speaker 2>If he doesn't meet expectations? That'll be interesting.
<v Speaker 1>Two, how will head coach Nick Nurse deal with being
<v Speaker 1>constantly undermined and out guest? Also going to be interesting?
<v Speaker 1>And three how does Jalen Brown planned all this? Because
<v Speaker 1>you know he had to be thinking I'm going to Philly.
<v Speaker 1>I'm going to be the man. I get away from Boston,
<v Speaker 1>I get away from Jason Tatum, and now I have
<v Speaker 1>a team that is all to myself, and to a degree,
<v Speaker 1>it will be kind of his team because he will
<v Speaker 1>be the best player on this roster, I believe. But
<v Speaker 1>what's going to be interesting is it Jalen Brown and
<v Speaker 1>Lebron James. They kind of play the same position. I
<v Speaker 1>don't know how this is going to end up, but
<v Speaker 1>this is going to be theater. Get your popcorn ready, hey,
<v Speaker 1>Today on the Dose, we are going to begin about
<v Speaker 1>a month long of prep to get ready for the
<v Speaker 1>college football and NFL seasons. Well, unfortunately, one of the
<v Speaker 1>aspects that we must prepare for are head coaches that
<v Speaker 1>are going to have a very big microscope on them
<v Speaker 1>going into the season. Today we will have a few
<v Speaker 1>college and NFL coaches that are going to be starting
<v Speaker 1>off on the hot seat. We will also have a
<v Speaker 1>daily dose Top five for you today. Like we said,
<v Speaker 1>Lebron James is headed to the city nicknamed the City
<v Speaker 1>of Brotherly Love.
<v Speaker 2>What could be in store for him when he arrives there.
<v Speaker 2>More on that a.
<v Speaker 1>Little bit later, but first, let's start off in the
<v Speaker 1>land of the NFL, where right now you don't want
<v Speaker 1>to be in the news. If you're an NFL team,
<v Speaker 1>you just hope stay out of the news because any
<v Speaker 1>news coming out right now isn't good. And here's an example.
<v Speaker 1>The wife of Kansas City Chief's offensive coordinator Eric Benemy
<v Speaker 1>was allegedly shot on Sunday night at the family's home
<v Speaker 1>in Virginia. Me A b Enemy who is fifty seven
<v Speaker 1>years old, was hospitalized in stable condition on Monday, and
<v Speaker 1>police in Virginia confirmed that a woman was being treated
<v Speaker 1>for serious injuries from multiple gunshot wounds, even though they
<v Speaker 1>did not disclose her identity. But wait, there's more, because
<v Speaker 1>Elijah Zion Beenemy, twenty seven years old, was arrested and
<v Speaker 1>charged with malicious wounding, use of a firearm in commission
<v Speaker 1>of a felony, and discharge of a firearm inside of
<v Speaker 1>a dwelling according to the County Sheriff's office, that is
<v Speaker 1>the b Enemy's son. Now, Eric Beenemy left the Chiefs
<v Speaker 1>training camp and was not in attendance for Monday's practice.
<v Speaker 1>He was with the Chiefs on Sunday in Saint Joseph, Missouri,
<v Speaker 1>but head coach Andy Reid said there is no timetable
<v Speaker 1>on the Enemy's return to the Chiefs, adding that past
<v Speaker 1>game coordinator Joe Blameier will take over B Enemy's duties
<v Speaker 1>during his absence. Hey, this is going to be a
<v Speaker 1>very difficult time in the Chiefs organization and for the
<v Speaker 1>be Ennemy household in general. We pray for the best.
<v Speaker 1>We're all involved, and we know that the b Enemy
<v Speaker 1>family is going to get support from Andy Reid. Hey,
<v Speaker 1>who knows this kind of situation better than Andy Reid.
<v Speaker 1>Come to think of it, the enemy's son might end
<v Speaker 1>up living with Andy Reid's son very soon. One more
<v Speaker 1>story in the NFL, and it's not a good one.
<v Speaker 1>San Francisco forty nine Ers head coach le Shanahan suffered
<v Speaker 1>significant injuries in a car crashed over the summer break
<v Speaker 1>in mid July, and it's going to leave him limited
<v Speaker 1>as the team open training camp. They say Shanahan broke
<v Speaker 1>his nose, three ribs, his hand, needed more than forty
<v Speaker 1>stitches in his face, and suffered a severe concussion during
<v Speaker 1>a car crash that took place July fourteenth, when he
<v Speaker 1>collided with an suv near his northern California home will.
<v Speaker 1>They say Shanahan is recovering from those many injuries, although
<v Speaker 1>he has lingering concussion symptoms. That is, according to the
<v Speaker 1>general manager, John Lynch, assistant head coach Chris Forrester will
<v Speaker 1>assume some of those duties until Shanahan is able to return.
<v Speaker 1>The Lynch said it would have to be a group
<v Speaker 1>effort to fill in for the head coach, and he
<v Speaker 1>added that while there is no defined concussion protocol for
<v Speaker 1>staff members, Shanahan will follow a similar process to what
<v Speaker 1>players go through in order to get clearance so that
<v Speaker 1>he can come back to work full time. Look, I
<v Speaker 1>don't know what is going on in San Francisco. I
<v Speaker 1>know there are rumors of electromagnetic fields that are getting
<v Speaker 1>players hurt at their home facility. I know the crime
<v Speaker 1>in the city has contributed to at least one player
<v Speaker 1>getting shot, and I'm sure there are probably a number
<v Speaker 1>of incidents of players I don't know, just turning their
<v Speaker 1>ankle on human feces on city sidebox. But now this
<v Speaker 1>curse or whatever it is is now chasing people down
<v Speaker 1>in their cars. California is a problem. I mean, no
<v Speaker 1>wonder Lebron left, no wonder TESCLA left no wonder. In
<v Speaker 1>and Out left no wonder, The Raiders left no wonder.
<v Speaker 1>Everyone is leaving. I kind of get it. This is
<v Speaker 1>some scary stuff if you're in California. I'm just saying,
<v Speaker 1>be careful, be careful, because things are happening in California. Finally,
<v Speaker 1>one last story that WNBA held their annual All Star
<v Speaker 1>Game on Saturday in Chicago, and you know, the cool
<v Speaker 1>part about it was that even though they were playing
<v Speaker 1>All Star Game defense, which is to say, you know,
<v Speaker 1>no defense, we still got to see the product that
<v Speaker 1>we expected. I mean, I know, they didn't play defense,
<v Speaker 1>there was no effort given. They were walking up and
<v Speaker 1>down the floor. But we still got miss layups, we
<v Speaker 1>still got air balls, we still got balls bouncing out
<v Speaker 1>for shins. And that was without any defense being played.
<v Speaker 1>So you know how they tell us, Yeah we missed layups,
<v Speaker 1>Yeah we sometimes missed threes. Yeah we airball things and
<v Speaker 1>we bounced the ball off our shin. But it's because
<v Speaker 1>of the tenacious defense. Yeah that part's not true. Okay, Look,
<v Speaker 1>this segment doesn't bring me any joy. I hate to
<v Speaker 1>see head coaches fired. I know, we get mad when
<v Speaker 1>our teams struggle or whatever. But these guys are just
<v Speaker 1>trying to make a living. However, when you don't live
<v Speaker 1>up to expectations, the fans and more importantly, the money
<v Speaker 1>paying boosters get fed up and they demand a change.
<v Speaker 1>And right now we are going to take a look
<v Speaker 1>at a f you guys in both college and the
<v Speaker 1>NFL that are starting their seasons off on the hot seat.
<v Speaker 2>And let's start off in the college game.
<v Speaker 1>And we're gonna start off down in Tallahassee, where Florida
<v Speaker 1>State head coach Mike norvil ce is capable of burning
<v Speaker 1>a hole in his pants. Norvel took over in twenty
<v Speaker 1>twenty and while it took him a few seasons to
<v Speaker 1>build the seminal program back up. Remember in twenty twenty three,
<v Speaker 1>they went thirteen to zero in the regular season.
<v Speaker 2>But then you remember quarterback Jordan.
<v Speaker 1>Travis broke his leg and FSU got bumped out of
<v Speaker 1>the playoff, and then they played Georgia and the Orange
<v Speaker 1>Bowl and I think they got beat by I don't know,
<v Speaker 1>like one hundred and fifty something like that. Well, Florida
<v Speaker 1>State hasn't even been back to a bowl game since
<v Speaker 1>in his six seasons in Tallahassee. Mike novel is thirty
<v Speaker 1>eight and thirty four. He's only been to two bowl games,
<v Speaker 1>and this season the schedule won't be kind. Florida State
<v Speaker 1>goes to Alabama, they go to Miami, they go to Louisville.
<v Speaker 1>Hay Norville had better rally the troops quickly. Speaking of
<v Speaker 1>Florida State, we have an FSU connection right here in
<v Speaker 1>my home state of Colorado.
<v Speaker 2>And of course that is up at Boulder where the bloom.
<v Speaker 1>Is off the rose that once was Deon Sanders up
<v Speaker 1>the University of Colorado. Remember when Diana arrived at Colorado
<v Speaker 1>and people were just anointing the Buffs as a program. Hey,
<v Speaker 1>they're just gonna real and talent year after year. He's
<v Speaker 1>gonna be the best recruiter we've ever seen. They're gonna
<v Speaker 1>be back in the National Championship conversation every single year.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, that's funny.
<v Speaker 1>Since taking over in Boulder, Dion is sixteen and twenty one. Overall,
<v Speaker 1>that's not good. But wait, it's gonna get worse because
<v Speaker 1>the Buffs are just two to eight against ranked teams.
<v Speaker 1>So fourteen of those wins came against unranked teams. More
<v Speaker 1>bad news. I saw the Colorado spring game. It didn't
<v Speaker 1>look good.
<v Speaker 2>That team looked like a high school team. And here's
<v Speaker 2>the bigger problem. This schedule could be a death sentence.
<v Speaker 1>Georgia Tech, Baylor, Texas Tech, Arizona State, Cincinnati. Here's the thing, though,
<v Speaker 1>the Big twelve isn't even all about good. But Deon
<v Speaker 1>hasn't produced a talent that everyone was expecting. Hey, the
<v Speaker 1>Buffs are going to have to start off strong this
<v Speaker 1>year or it's going to get ugly, real real quick.
<v Speaker 1>One team that is no longer on that Colorado schedule
<v Speaker 1>features another coach that is on the hot seat. Oh
<v Speaker 1>but I bet he wishes he could play Colorado this
<v Speaker 1>season because Nebraska's Matt Rule is finding the going very
<v Speaker 1>tough in Lincoln, Nebraska. After he revived Temple and Baylor,
<v Speaker 1>Matt Rule seemed like a guy that could go to
<v Speaker 1>Nebraska and get the Huskers back on the national map
<v Speaker 1>when he joined them in twenty twenty three. But it
<v Speaker 1>has not been easy. Do you realize Matt Rule is
<v Speaker 1>just nineteen and nineteen in three seasons. And while Nebraska
<v Speaker 1>has at least gone to a bowl game the last
<v Speaker 1>two years, the Penstrap Bowl and the Las Vegas Ball
<v Speaker 1>aren't exactly impressing the Husker faithful. Well, now, Matt rule
<v Speaker 1>this year is going to benefit from a softer schedule
<v Speaker 1>because Nebraska won't face Indiana, they won't face Oregon, they
<v Speaker 1>won't face Ohio State.
<v Speaker 2>Well, then you better do something.
<v Speaker 1>Matt Ruhle had better win something this year at Nebraska
<v Speaker 1>or he won't be around any longer because the Nebraska
<v Speaker 1>faithful are grumbling.
<v Speaker 2>They want to see some return.
<v Speaker 1>Okay, I know this next guy is only in his
<v Speaker 1>second season on the job. There's no way you should
<v Speaker 1>be on a hot seat after just one year. But
<v Speaker 1>when you're paying Bills Belichick fifty million dollars, yeah, the
<v Speaker 1>North Carolina tar Hills are going to want to win something.
<v Speaker 1>The tar Heels went just four and eight in Belichick's
<v Speaker 1>for a season on the job. But it wasn't really
<v Speaker 1>about the wins and losses. Hey, it takes time to
<v Speaker 1>turn a program around. No, it was more of the
<v Speaker 1>disconnect between players and coach, and it was more of
<v Speaker 1>the lack of competitiveness in the program. Do you realize
<v Speaker 1>that UNC's only wins last year were versus Charlotte A
<v Speaker 1>what d one double? A team Richmond same, Syracuse who's awful,
<v Speaker 1>and Stanford, who should be a D one double a team.
<v Speaker 1>Oh and in those eight losses you and c got trounced.
<v Speaker 1>They were beaten by a combined score of two hundred
<v Speaker 1>and sixty to one twenty three. So you were more
<v Speaker 1>than doubled up. And this year's schedule might be worse TCU, Clemson,
<v Speaker 1>Notre Dame, and Louisville. That would be none too kind
<v Speaker 1>to Bill Belichick. If he doesn't have this group ready
<v Speaker 1>more than they were last year, it's gonna get ugly.
<v Speaker 1>More bad news came in for the tar Hills on Monday.
<v Speaker 1>UNC general manager Michael Lombardi was placed on administrative leave
<v Speaker 1>by the school. In the initial release, no details were
<v Speaker 1>provided as to why Lombardi will be out, but it
<v Speaker 1>should be noted it was the school who made the decision.
<v Speaker 2>This wasn't an.
<v Speaker 1>Athletic department thing. This is starting to feel like a
<v Speaker 1>bona fide mess. Hey, Belichick might be out of a
<v Speaker 1>job real quick.
<v Speaker 2>I don't know.
<v Speaker 1>Maybe Bill Belichick can fight Tom Brady in the next
<v Speaker 1>BES celebrity fight at this rate, because I feel like
<v Speaker 1>Belichick might have nothing to do, very very soon. You know,
<v Speaker 1>we spoke earlier about people getting out of California. Well,
<v Speaker 1>if Lincoln Riley doesn't finally win a few big games
<v Speaker 1>at USC, he might be next. After jumping from Oklahoma
<v Speaker 1>back in twenty twenty two. Lincoln Riley has been okay
<v Speaker 1>at USC, just not all that great. In four seasons
<v Speaker 1>in Los Angeles with the Trojans, Riley is now thirty
<v Speaker 1>five and eighteen, but his biggest Bowl game was the
<v Speaker 1>Holiday Bowl a few years ago. It isn't again that
<v Speaker 1>the Trojans have been terrible. They are winning games, but
<v Speaker 1>against ranked teams, Lincoln Riley is five and thirteen.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, that's not good. Well, the good news this year
<v Speaker 2>is that the Trojans will play every game at home
<v Speaker 2>except for one until mid October, so they're gonna get
<v Speaker 2>a good warm up. They should be rolling.
<v Speaker 1>The bad news is when they do get rolling, they're
<v Speaker 1>going to face Oregon and Washington and Penn State and
<v Speaker 1>Ohio State and Indiana. Hey, the Trojans better get out
<v Speaker 1>of the gate fast, and they better rack up some
<v Speaker 1>wins while they're playing at home and then maybe that
<v Speaker 1>momentum carry. Otherwise, Lincoln Riley is going to be in
<v Speaker 1>some big, big trouble. One last head coach in college
<v Speaker 1>football to mention, and honestly, I probably shouldn't even mention it,
<v Speaker 1>and that is Luke Fickele at Wisconsin. Remember Fickle jumped
<v Speaker 1>from Cincinnati two Madison back in twenty twenty two, and
<v Speaker 1>he started off okay, But over the past two seasons,
<v Speaker 1>Luke Fickle is nine and fifteen with the Badgers. And
<v Speaker 1>you know what, mix fans really mad Wisconsin can't score points.
<v Speaker 1>Last year, the Badgers averaged twelve point eight points per game. Hey, kids,
<v Speaker 1>that's twelve point eight points per game, more than I
<v Speaker 1>averaged sitting at home on my couch. You barely outscored me.
<v Speaker 1>And here's worst news.
<v Speaker 2>The Badgers open against Notre Dame in Green Bay.
<v Speaker 1>Hey, Luke Fickle might get fired at a halftime. Hopefully
<v Speaker 1>he hasn't been fired yet as you listen to this. Okay,
<v Speaker 1>but let's move over to the NFL, where there are
<v Speaker 1>also a number of head coaches that will start the
<v Speaker 1>season on a very hot seat. These guys have to
<v Speaker 1>produce or they're going to be in big, big trouble.
<v Speaker 1>And let's start off with the hottest seat, and that
<v Speaker 1>is in New York with the Jets. Hey, Aaron Glenn
<v Speaker 1>is a former Jet. He played there, and he had
<v Speaker 1>done a pretty impressive job in Detroit getting the Lions
<v Speaker 1>defense to well, at least not be terrible. They weren't great,
<v Speaker 1>but they were good. However, Glenn went three and fourteen
<v Speaker 1>last year, the worst record ever by a Jets head
<v Speaker 1>coach in his first season, and New York made some history.
<v Speaker 1>They became the first team since the nineteen eighty seven
<v Speaker 1>Atlanta Falcons to finish last in points per game differential,
<v Speaker 1>last in yards per game differential, and last in turnover differential.
<v Speaker 1>And the Jets have now gone fifteen straight seasons without
<v Speaker 1>making the postseason. That is the longest active drought across
<v Speaker 1>the NFL, Major League Baseball, the NBA, and the NHL.
<v Speaker 1>And no, I'm not saying the Jets have an abundance
<v Speaker 1>of talent, especially offensively, but why was their defense so terrible?
<v Speaker 1>They do have some talent on the defensive side of
<v Speaker 1>the ball. Aaron Glenn had better show some reason for
<v Speaker 1>positivity this year or he isn't going to make it
<v Speaker 1>much longer.
<v Speaker 2>Now, it might seem a.
<v Speaker 1>Little unfair to put Shane Steikeen on this list, but
<v Speaker 1>the Indianapolis Colts had to collapse for the ages last season.
<v Speaker 1>Stikeen is set to enter his fourth season with the Colts.
<v Speaker 1>He has gone twenty five and twenty six, but last
<v Speaker 1>year was wild. Remember the Colts started eight and two
<v Speaker 1>with quarterback Daniel Jones. It looked like Indianapolis might be
<v Speaker 1>one of the top teams in the NFL. And then
<v Speaker 1>Jones fractured his fibula, and then he suffered a season
<v Speaker 1>ending toward achilles in Week fourteen, and the Colts actually.
<v Speaker 2>Went out and enlisted the.
<v Speaker 1>Help of ninety four year old grandfather Philip Rivers for
<v Speaker 1>the playoff push. Indy lost their final seven straight games
<v Speaker 1>after starting eight and two. They finished eight to nine. Hey,
<v Speaker 1>the Colts need to reach the postseason this year or
<v Speaker 1>Stiking's going to be gone. I don't think that Colts
<v Speaker 1>fan base will stand for it.
<v Speaker 2>Now. Our next guy.
<v Speaker 1>It's not entirely his fault, but Zach Taylor. He isn't
<v Speaker 1>producing nearly enough in Cincinnati in recent years. During the
<v Speaker 1>twenty twenty one season, the first full season of the
<v Speaker 1>Joe Burrow era at quarterback, the Cincinnati Bengals went all
<v Speaker 1>the way to the Super Bowl. Despite only having a
<v Speaker 1>ten to seven regular season record, year, Cincinnati went twelve
<v Speaker 1>and four. Even better, they went to a second straight
<v Speaker 1>ANFC Championship, but they were knocked off. Do you realize, though,
<v Speaker 1>that was the last time the Bengals even made the playoffs.
<v Speaker 1>Cincinnati has now missed the postseason three straight years, and
<v Speaker 1>last year's six and eleven season was painful. Not only
<v Speaker 1>did Burrow miss nine games after suffering a turf toe
<v Speaker 1>injury in Week two, but the defense was one of
<v Speaker 1>the worst in the league. Last year, the Bengals became
<v Speaker 1>the first team in NFL history to allow twenty seven
<v Speaker 1>points and three hundred and fifty total yards in eight
<v Speaker 1>straight games. That's unreal, and that the first team since
<v Speaker 1>the nineteen sixty six New York Giants to lose two
<v Speaker 1>straight games.
<v Speaker 2>While scoring at least thirty eight points in each of them.
<v Speaker 1>Hey, I realize, Zach Taylor is an offense guy, and
<v Speaker 1>his offense has been pretty good, but he had better
<v Speaker 1>figure that defense out real quick because his job depends
<v Speaker 1>on it.
<v Speaker 2>Okay, this next guy probably shouldn't be on the list.
<v Speaker 1>We have seen that Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones will
<v Speaker 1>let his head coach stay on longer than he probably should.
<v Speaker 1>But what new head coach Brian Schottenheimer did last year
<v Speaker 1>with this team was abysmal. After taking over from Mike
<v Speaker 1>McCarthy last year, after the Cowboys went seven to ten
<v Speaker 1>in twenty twenty four, Schottenheimer went seven to nine and
<v Speaker 1>one last year.
<v Speaker 2>Okay, so about the same. Not too impressive, and the
<v Speaker 2>offense actually did score more points. They averaged twenty eight
<v Speaker 2>points a game, and improvement from just twenty points a
<v Speaker 2>game in the year before. However, the defense went the
<v Speaker 2>other way. The defense was the worst in the league.
<v Speaker 2>The Cowboys had allowed twenty seven points per game under McCarthy. Terrible.
<v Speaker 1>They ranked thirty first out of thirty two teams. Well,
<v Speaker 1>they can't do any worse, could they? Except he did.
<v Speaker 1>That number jumped up to over thirty points a game
<v Speaker 1>allowed and ranked them dead last in the league. Now,
<v Speaker 1>will Jerry pull the plug if the Cowboys don't show
<v Speaker 1>some improvement soon?
<v Speaker 2>I don't know. He might not have a choice. He's
<v Speaker 2>got to do something soon, doesn't he.
<v Speaker 1>This franchise hasn't won a playoff game since Bill Clinton
<v Speaker 1>was in the White House. Okay, let's jump over to
<v Speaker 1>the NFC South, where the twenty twenty five season marked
<v Speaker 1>the first time Todd Bowles failed to win that division
<v Speaker 1>as Buccaneers head coach. Last year's season, it was similar
<v Speaker 1>to the cult season. Tampa Bay started off six and two,
<v Speaker 1>Baker Mayfield was looking like an MVP candidate, and then
<v Speaker 1>they finished the season eight and nine, going just two
<v Speaker 1>and seven over the last nine games. The Buccaneers looked
<v Speaker 1>like an easy pick to win this division, but it
<v Speaker 1>actually ended in a three way tie at eight and nine,
<v Speaker 1>and the Carolina Panthers got in. Now, Todd Bowles is
<v Speaker 1>signed through twenty twenty eight. He's thirty five and thirty
<v Speaker 1>three over four years with the Buccaneer, including a playoff
<v Speaker 1>record of just one to three. Well, Tampa's going to
<v Speaker 1>have some changes. Mike Evans is gone, Leavonte David is gone.
<v Speaker 1>The Buccaneers were the best team in this division last
<v Speaker 1>year and they still didn't make the playoffs. And that
<v Speaker 1>was a failure and Todd Bowles has got to make
<v Speaker 1>sure it doesn't happen again this year. One final coach
<v Speaker 1>on our list today that might have you thinking I'm
<v Speaker 1>crazy to put him on here, but for all the
<v Speaker 1>talent that general manager Howie Roseman keeps bringing into the
<v Speaker 1>Philadelphia Eagles franchise head coach Nick sirian his seat. It
<v Speaker 1>could begin to warm if they struggle this year. Remember
<v Speaker 1>his blow up on the field with wide receiver AJ
<v Speaker 1>Brown last year. Brown is now in New England. And
<v Speaker 1>there are times that Nick Sirianni he seems to try
<v Speaker 1>to appease players rather than sticking to assist him to
<v Speaker 1>win games.
<v Speaker 2>He's kind of a weird dude.
<v Speaker 1>Now, being weird won't necessarily cost him his job, but
<v Speaker 1>if he starts to lose games, or if he starts
<v Speaker 1>to argue with more players, yeah, this might not end well. Hey,
<v Speaker 1>the Eagles want another Super Bowl and they need Nick
<v Speaker 1>Surianni to be on his game in order to get that. Now,
<v Speaker 1>as we do so many weeks here to the yalely
<v Speaker 1>does we need to get over to our daily dose
<v Speaker 1>top five speaking of that city of brotherly love. Like
<v Speaker 1>we said at the top of the show, Lebron James
<v Speaker 1>is headed to Philadelphia to presumably finish his illustrious career
<v Speaker 1>with a seventy six ers. And like I said, Lebron
<v Speaker 1>is now forty one. This will be the twenty fourth
<v Speaker 1>season of his incredible career. How is it going to end? Well,
<v Speaker 1>it's hard to say. Yes, this team is set up
<v Speaker 1>to be pretty good. They are in the Eastern Conference,
<v Speaker 1>which helps a ton That path won't be nearly as
<v Speaker 1>difficult as the West would have been. So it's going
<v Speaker 1>to be interesting to watch. But one other thing that
<v Speaker 1>I want to watch is how will Lebron be welcomed
<v Speaker 1>in Philly. Hey, we know Philly fans.
<v Speaker 2>Can be a bit rough.
<v Speaker 1>They will boost Santa Claus, they will throw batteries at opponents,
<v Speaker 1>they will cheer for injuries of opponents. Well, how will
<v Speaker 1>Philly fans react to some of Lebron's let's say, antics,
<v Speaker 1>the flopping, the whining, and more importantly, what if they
<v Speaker 1>don't win as much as they expect to Today? Our
<v Speaker 1>Dellios Top five is counting down the top five nicknames
<v Speaker 1>that Philly fans are going to give to Lebron James.
<v Speaker 1>We start off at number five wo and Hey, if
<v Speaker 1>you want some American history, then Philadelphia is chock full
<v Speaker 1>of it. The Declaration of Independence was signed there, The
<v Speaker 1>United States Constitution was debated, framed, and signed during the
<v Speaker 1>seventeen eighty seven Constitutional Convention there, and the city of
<v Speaker 1>Philadelphia served as the meeting site for both the First
<v Speaker 1>and Second Continental Congresses. I mean, the franchise itself is
<v Speaker 1>based upon this history with their very name, the seventy
<v Speaker 1>six Ers. So maybe the Philly fans will be thinking
<v Speaker 1>of this American history when they lob about a nickname
<v Speaker 1>based on one of America's greatest minds and one of
<v Speaker 1>America's greatest patriots. But I can't wait to hear them yelling,
<v Speaker 1>let's go well, Lebronjaman Franklin and that comes in today
<v Speaker 1>at number five.
<v Speaker 2>We move on to number four.
<v Speaker 1>And while the city of Philadelphia does have a rich
<v Speaker 1>sports history with the Eagles, the seventy six Ers, the
<v Speaker 1>Phillies and the Flyers, do not forget that the city
<v Speaker 1>of Philadelphia does think of the character Rocky Balboa that
<v Speaker 1>was created by Sylvester Stallone as one of its own.
<v Speaker 2>Of course, the Rocky.
<v Speaker 1>Series is one of the most famous in movie history,
<v Speaker 1>and the original even won an Academy Award. But couldn't
<v Speaker 1>you just see Philly fans kind of running with that,
<v Speaker 1>like introducing Lebron James, like in the Blue Corner, fighting
<v Speaker 1>out of the City Bro.
<v Speaker 2>We love. We have the aging champion, Rocky bald Boa.
<v Speaker 2>That should be a lot of fun. Rocky bald Boa
<v Speaker 2>comes in at number four. We ripe at number three,
<v Speaker 2>And like I said, the city of Philadelphia does.
<v Speaker 1>Have some illustrious history in sports, greats like Wilt Chamberlain
<v Speaker 1>and Julius Irving, Alan Iverson. They've had Mike Schmidt, Reggie White,
<v Speaker 1>Donovan McNabb. I mean, they've had Harold Carmichael, Bobby Clark,
<v Speaker 1>and of course Joe Fraser. Hey, I don't care how
<v Speaker 1>great you are, Philly fan is going to let you
<v Speaker 1>know if they see you doing something that they deem soft.
<v Speaker 1>So do not be surprised if you hear some Philly
<v Speaker 1>fans bestowing this next nickname on Lebron James, because I
<v Speaker 1>could totally see them saying, hey.
<v Speaker 2>Didn't you used to be Lebron James. That is exactly
<v Speaker 2>the kind of nickname that Philly fans would call someone.
<v Speaker 2>And it comes in today at number three. We reached
<v Speaker 2>number two.
<v Speaker 1>I know that while Lebron will be joining a team
<v Speaker 1>that is prime to be very very good if there's
<v Speaker 1>a knockout this team. In recent years, it has been
<v Speaker 1>that it's best player, Joel Embiid. Let's just say he
<v Speaker 1>might actually be Italian.
<v Speaker 2>Ah Fried, Gee, it must be Italian.
<v Speaker 1>In his ten seasons playing in the NBA, Joel Embiid
<v Speaker 1>has played more than sixty games just four times, and
<v Speaker 1>just barely over sixty games. On average, Joel Embiid plays
<v Speaker 1>forty nine games per season.
<v Speaker 2>Out of eighty two. I mean, let's be honest, dude
<v Speaker 2>doesn't really like to play basketball all that much. But
<v Speaker 2>like I said, Lebron is not forty one.
<v Speaker 1>This will be his twenty four season, and let's also
<v Speaker 1>be real honest, he's missed his own share of games.
<v Speaker 1>Lebron has only played eighty two games once in his
<v Speaker 1>entire career, and on average he plays around seventy games
<v Speaker 1>per season, and that could slide even more this year
<v Speaker 1>as he is older. So I would imagine that hearing
<v Speaker 1>the nickname Joel Embiid's training room pal could be popular
<v Speaker 1>for Lebron in Philadelphia, and it comes in at number two.
<v Speaker 1>We reach the number one nickname that Lebron James will
<v Speaker 1>be given in the city of Philadelphia. And look, I
<v Speaker 1>understand Lebron is one of the greatest ever. I also
<v Speaker 1>know he does have a history of joining teams that
<v Speaker 1>are on the precipice of winning something instead of writing
<v Speaker 1>out the tough times and building the winner himself. We
<v Speaker 1>know Lebron wants to try to catch Michael Jordan with
<v Speaker 1>six titles, and that is where we get to our
<v Speaker 1>final nickname on this list, because we know Lebron thinks
<v Speaker 1>of himself as like a special agent, a special agent
<v Speaker 1>that is coming to Philly to deliver a title.
<v Speaker 2>Bong Jam's Bad.
<v Speaker 1>And that is why the number one nickname on our
<v Speaker 1>list day is Chasing ring Hey.
<v Speaker 2>Next week on the Dose, we will continue to get
<v Speaker 2>ready for.
<v Speaker 1>The college football and NFL seasons. We might have to
<v Speaker 1>take a look at some of the changes we're going
<v Speaker 1>to be seeing this season.
<v Speaker 2>Plus we will keep.
<v Speaker 1>You up on all that is going on in the
<v Speaker 1>sports world right now. So be sure you tune into
<v Speaker 1>the Dose and be sure you let a friend know
<v Speaker 1>do the same.
<v Speaker 2>Hey.
<v Speaker 1>I want to say thank you to each and every
<v Speaker 1>one of you for listening to The Deli Dose every week.
<v Speaker 1>Thank you for the emails, thank you for the text
<v Speaker 1>thank me the tweets, but more than anything, thank you
<v Speaker 1>for sharing the show, for sharing the videos, and for
<v Speaker 1>sharing the articles with someone that you know.
<v Speaker 2>We absolutely love it when you do that. I have
<v Speaker 2>to thank you to JSP. Could not do any of
<v Speaker 2>this without you. I will see you on next Wednesday.
<v Speaker 2>Have a great week everybody. Ah fried Gely he must
<v Speaker 2>be Italian.
