[SPEAKER_00]: Welcome in to the Baseball America Pre-Trade Deadline show.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm Jacob Rubber, joined by JJ Cooper, and Kunder, we are days away from the Major League Baseball Trade Deadline.
[SPEAKER_00]: We have seen some action already on the trade front, and we are expecting a lot more.
[SPEAKER_00]: Over the next uh...
[SPEAKER_00]: Who knows how long, and as long as you all keep it going, we are going to hang out with you answering your questions about the trade deadline.
[SPEAKER_00]: Of course, if you want all of our coverage, you have to go on over to baseballamerica.com because that's where we've got everything from draft coverage that's still kind of flowing out from the 26 class to, of course, the
[SPEAKER_00]: Baseball America patented trade coverage and prospect coverage that keeps us going and so if you have questions drop them into the chat and we will answer them before we start seeing some questions flow and JJ will start with you how are you what's generally on your mind is trade deadline day approaches okay a little good I'm good I really am but a little insight kind of just into the kind of the world of this right I've been really caught up in the trade deadline but
[SPEAKER_02]: I get a little bit, you know, like over ambitious with this and so I've been building out kind of.
[SPEAKER_02]: data with the trade deadline, going back to the entirety of the 21st century.
[SPEAKER_02]: And if anyone out there who has ever worked with the database knows your idea takes about five minutes, the ingestion of it takes about 10, and then the cleanup takes the rest of your life.
[SPEAKER_02]: I feel like every time I feel like I'm just there on it, I realize there's something else I need to fix.
[SPEAKER_02]: I've been cleaning up all day, but cool thing with that is
[SPEAKER_02]: as we're talking about even trades, I can probably throw out some comparable in the past, like so for instance, I'll just throw a little trivia question for YouTube.
[SPEAKER_02]: 2020, 21st century, what big league or traded at the deadline?
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, it had the most war for the team trading them in the year they were traded.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'll give you a clue because that's a broad broad question.
[SPEAKER_02]: It is a right hander.
[SPEAKER_02]: It is a great, and it was 2019.
[SPEAKER_02]: You went from the NL to the AL.
[SPEAKER_02]: Five point two war pre-trade.
[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, real clue.
[SPEAKER_02]: I see some answered, modern says Chap and no.
[SPEAKER_02]: So right hand is starter.
[SPEAKER_02]: Nope, right hand is starter.
[SPEAKER_02]: D-backs to the Astros.
[SPEAKER_01]: He backs the Astros that should that grunky.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, it's grunky.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, of course.
[SPEAKER_01]: I was see my mind for some reason.
[SPEAKER_01]: I was thinking about Verlander because someone was re-litigating the Justin Verlander trade return on my timeline today, which in hindsight, not a great return J.J. as we've learned with a lot of these trades at the deadline.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so that's that's like what I've got on my mind is a lot of stuff like that right now.
[SPEAKER_02]: And and I will say my overall message that I will say over and over is
[SPEAKER_02]: Studying with it a piece up today at Baseball America.com of the 10 most significant additions at the deadline in the 21st century.
[SPEAKER_02]: the prospect cost of those trades was so minimal.
[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm talking like, like CC Savathiat, four player trade, brewers go to the playoffs because that for the first time in 26 years, Michael Brantley is the return at the end of the day.
[SPEAKER_02]: That's a good return, but that's not much.
[SPEAKER_02]: And Michael Brantley in those 10 trades was the biggest prospect, the best prospect to turn out.
[SPEAKER_00]: Ooh.
[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to get going with the questions here.
[SPEAKER_00]: They're flooding in.
[SPEAKER_00]: If you are watching us live, you can ask to just comment your questions.
[SPEAKER_00]: We will put them up on the show, you know, as as we go through this.
[SPEAKER_00]: Let's start with this one from Jacob warns for six or four.
[SPEAKER_00]: What's the highest ranked prospect?
[SPEAKER_00]: You think could get traded in what level of player would they be worth.
[SPEAKER_00]: Ian will start with you.
[SPEAKER_01]: There's very rarely top prospects being dealt with the deadline.
[SPEAKER_01]: And when by top prospects, I'm thinking like top 25, top 50 and our top 100.
[SPEAKER_01]: You'll get your back end of the top 100 types.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think we'll see a few of those.
[SPEAKER_01]: But very rarely do you get those guys that we consider elite prospects at the top of the list move.
[SPEAKER_01]: But I think looking at who's available this year.
[SPEAKER_01]: And obviously, we're looking at one person in particular.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's to reach school, who pitched today and had a moment walking off the mountain to Detroit that if you haven't watched yet,
[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, as soon as we finish the stream, you should go watch it because it's a pretty powerful moment.
[SPEAKER_01]: But I think if he is moved at the deadline, he's the type of player we'll probably see someone inside of our top 20.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm saying maybe top 30, top 40, at least headline that package.
[SPEAKER_01]: maybe even two guys from the top 50.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think that he's the type of talent that, you know, if you're a team and there's going to be no shortage of teams interested that could put you over the top.
[SPEAKER_01]: And with the Dodgers having some rotation questions now with the raise, all is, you know, looking to make a splash, the brewers, similarly in a position, I think that he's the one that I'm eyeing as the player that can get the highest level return.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I mean, if you're talking about the teams we just mentioned, they all have a plethora of prospects inside of our top 50 that could be
[SPEAKER_02]: So, okay, I'll go by names on that.
[SPEAKER_02]: I would say Mike's wrote us the hear hope would be kind of that range of like, so wrote, I would say it's the better of those, but like, those fit in that, okay.
[SPEAKER_02]: I think again, we could be very wrong.
[SPEAKER_02]: But if the Dodgers make a big move, I think that DePawa is the Dodgers like, nope, we're gonna hold on to him of these outfielders.
[SPEAKER_02]: After that, if you like, sort of the most, or if you like, hope the most, I would say, I think Quintero, or if you were, hey, other deals like where you go down in another level, you could be then to the Kendall George, or to the James Tibs, we could keep going, the dabblons, like there's,
[SPEAKER_02]: It's crazy.
[SPEAKER_02]: We just rattled off the names of seven outfilders for the Dodgers who all would be, again, different returns, but like, if they try to kindle George for a useful reliever, that's not a crazy trait for either son.
[SPEAKER_02]: So.
[SPEAKER_02]: And it seemed like you had something else with that.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and I was just, I think the Dodgers situation is fascinating, something we wrote over about at Baseball America.
[SPEAKER_01]: We were talking about blocked prospects because I look at, they obviously, you just ran through their riches in the outfield right now, but I actually think in a weird way.
[SPEAKER_01]: that hope in Sarota are the two that I think are more blocked than someone like Contaro is because Contaro's less is further along and is developmental path.
[SPEAKER_01]: He's still got a few more years until he's real five eligible, which is when the clock starts.
[SPEAKER_01]: And he's, you know, he's going to move pretty slowly.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like they've been very deliberate.
[SPEAKER_01]: He spent the entire year in high.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think a part of that is because there's no where to play him in double A.
[SPEAKER_01]: But you know, if he's a year by year guy, it wouldn't surprise you.
[SPEAKER_01]: Whereas you look at Sarota, he's a 23 year old college guy in double A.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know,
[SPEAKER_01]: He's someone that I bet in some other organizations they be on the door that he'd be on the door of the major league right now and that your hope is is ahead it is obviously your head is younger, but he also is going to be roof i'm eligible sooner than someone like.
[SPEAKER_01]: And with the follow up being real five eligible this off season, I think, and you can buy that with his ability.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think he's probably as close to an untouchable as you're going to get in that organization.
[SPEAKER_01]: But I think it makes Sarota and hope really fascinating candidates for the same reason, as you said, like they have such a surplus there, but it's also that even though there may be, you know, at least in Sarota's case, he's higher regarded than Contaro, Contaro fits what the Dodgers need better right now than someone like Sarota does.
[SPEAKER_00]: And just remember, if you want access to this kind of cover, these are the kinds of things that Ian and JJ are diving into, you got to go over to baseballamerica.com, especially this weekend for Friday to lie 31st at this Friday into a Monday, August 3rd used the code, trade all caps trade at checkout to save 30% on the first year of any annual digital subscription.
[SPEAKER_00]: So if you want the analysis that you're hearing live on our show all the time,
[SPEAKER_00]: That's really good time to do it.
[SPEAKER_00]: Let's keep going here with some of our questions.
[SPEAKER_00]: Ian to the point of log jams.
[SPEAKER_00]: James tips.
[SPEAKER_00]: What do we think about his situation?
[SPEAKER_00]: You wrote about him.
[SPEAKER_00]: Is he somebody that we could see moved in the next week?
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think so.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I think he's in a really weird spot too, because even though he's in AAA, and he would think as close to the big leagues and something like Nepal is,
[SPEAKER_01]: He's not rule five eligible this year and with the Dodgers having kind of a 40 man crunch coming up this off season.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's pretty easy to see them just kind of leave parking him in AAA barring a move for the rest of the season.
[SPEAKER_01]: And so I think he's someone that if they're looking to make, you know, a big deal.
[SPEAKER_01]: He could probably be that second that third piece or kind of what JJ was describing a smaller trade to augment because their boost their bullpen, you know, go get a bench bat.
[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe they look to add a catcher for example now.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, there's just he's the kind of guy that can be, I mean, we saw him trade a twice last year in different size deals.
[SPEAKER_01]: So I think he's someone that would make a lot of sense to be on the move again this in the next week or so.
[SPEAKER_02]: I wanted to bring up this.
[SPEAKER_02]: I saw this one.
[SPEAKER_02]: They do have a pretty good short stop aspect of it.
[SPEAKER_01]: Meal morale is I think a lot of teams would be not sure stop, but yeah, you know, but like the short stop prospect, yes, you know, but yes, they don't have, I will say that that is not there.
[SPEAKER_02]: That is not their strength when you talk about guys who are going to be short stuff long term, which is fine for them because this one's another in our school.
[SPEAKER_02]: I would say like we just see it really is late, right?
[SPEAKER_02]: You won't see any moves, but it does feel like that we've gotten to the point now where it's going to be slow, slow, slow, slow, slow.
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, wait, they're all here.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I think part of that, though, is the way the standings work out right now, you know, you have really if you look at it, there's maybe seven true sellers right now.
[SPEAKER_01]: A lot of these teams that are kind of in them, they're on the periphery, there may be, you know, three, four, five games at back, they're going to wait to the last possible minute to pick a lane and we can see, you know, I mean, we saw with the red socks over a longer stretch, but if a team, you know, that's three or four back, oh seven, oh in this stretch between now in the deadline or six and a lot of our many games they have.
[SPEAKER_01]: That can put them right back in and all of a sudden they're half a game out and it's a different calculus versus if you lose, you know, if you go to and four in that stretch and your further out, then all of a sudden you're a clear seller so I think it's it's partially like teams just wait to the last minute because you know if it wasn't for the last minute and nothing would ever get done, but at the same time, you know, with how bunched up the standings are there are definitely a lot of teams that I don't think have chosen a path yet they're still debating whether it's going to be the buyer or telling path and I know like talking to people with teams, you know, there are some scouts who are jumping between.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm at a pro game.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm at an amateur game like it just because teams don't know which lane they're going in.
[SPEAKER_01]: So they're having to split everything up and send people in different directions to cover all their bases.
[SPEAKER_00]: Why are the angels suddenly open for business?
[SPEAKER_00]: The angels of course, fire GM, Perry, Menazian.
[SPEAKER_00]: They're now under interleadership.
[SPEAKER_00]: The expectation though might be that John Mosley extends on.
[SPEAKER_00]: JJ why why the sudden change in the direction for them at the deadline.
[SPEAKER_02]: sudden newfound wisdom.
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, like I say this from the standpoint of like they've done the worst job.
[SPEAKER_02]: And again, I will point the direction at the owner, right?
[SPEAKER_02]: We've said it over and over, but it is an open, it is not even a secret.
[SPEAKER_02]: It was just an open reality that when you go back to us at 23 showyotani was going to land a hall.
[SPEAKER_02]: And that was the plan.
[SPEAKER_02]: And then all of a sudden, it's like, no, we're going for it.
[SPEAKER_02]: And the going for it lasted just long enough to ensure you couldn't trade the best prospect the best player you could trade.
[SPEAKER_02]: Because the going for it lasted until like mid-August.
[SPEAKER_02]: And then it was like, nope, we're giving all these guys that we acquired away to try to dip below the luxury tack threshold as much as we can.
[SPEAKER_02]: which was like, if you wanted to describe the worst possible way to do that deadline, that was the way it was done.
[SPEAKER_02]: Hey, we're not going to get any value for this and we're not going to get any significance of anything.
[SPEAKER_02]: We're adding Lucas Gielito and guys like that for two weeks, three weeks is the worst kind of back and forth.
[SPEAKER_02]: And so this like,
[SPEAKER_02]: This doesn't mean that Zeknetto has to be traded.
[SPEAKER_02]: Like he's got multiple years of team control.
[SPEAKER_02]: He's a guy who's basically a three to five or a short stop every year.
[SPEAKER_02]: But I would also say, it's also not crazy for the angels to say, well, what can we get for him?
[SPEAKER_02]: Because let me just tell you, if you look at the 2027 angels, there's not really a path to, oh, this team's gonna be really, really, really good.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I agree.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I think the angels are in a position to where because of the new MLB draft water rules, they didn't pick inside the top 10 this year.
[SPEAKER_01]: So if they bought them out, this is fine, they can actually get them.
[SPEAKER_01]: They could have an early draft pick next year.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're not going to be penalized to kind of locked out of the top 10.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like we've seen with some other teams, if you have a couple of years in a row like that.
[SPEAKER_01]: So.
[SPEAKER_01]: If they're going to do a reset, it feels like this is the year with redet murs with Jose Soriano and Neto especially, that's guys that would teams would be very interested in I think they could get a lot for especially Neto with the way the right-handed hitting market has evolved so far with four of the top guys being injured, which with Curtis Mead Spencer Steer, Shay Langlears and Casey Schmidt obviously me was straight in the other three were all guys who were rumored to be dealt and
[SPEAKER_01]: now if they're all in on the injured list, you know, there's just a there's just not enough of right hand and hitting available right now.
[SPEAKER_01]: And so if they were to make something like neto available, I could very easily see, you know, some of the big the teams with high a lot of prospect capital and the hole in their lineup be very interested.
[SPEAKER_01]: Some of like Tampa comes to mind.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like if they go out and get a Zack neto to boost their lineup, give them another, you know, middle of the order badge pair of the NDBS and junior came in arrow.
[SPEAKER_01]: that could be really interesting and I think that's the kind of, you know, return.
[SPEAKER_01]: They have the return that I think the angel should be targeting for someone of netosability.
[SPEAKER_00]: If you have questions for us as we continue to break down the looming trade deadline throw them on in the chat, we will put them up on the broadcast and talk about them.
[SPEAKER_00]: We're moving on to the question from NWX2221 Cardinals fan.
[SPEAKER_00]: Love all that you guys are doing.
[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you.
[SPEAKER_00]: What would be the price for Lars Nupar and Iván Herrera thinking at least two top 10 guys for Iván.
[SPEAKER_00]: JJ will go back to you.
[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, I'll start with, I think that might be a little steep from the standpoint of the reason that you're okay if you're a cardinal sand trading of on her era is you don't believe that he fits in your long term future, which is not normally the profile of the guy that you're going to get a, you know, a reasonably significant haul for new bars also tough because.
[SPEAKER_02]: It kind of comes down to, you know, he's just not having the year you want to have in the year you get traded.
[SPEAKER_02]: Like, yes, 2023 he was really good.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yours two years after that has kind of tailed off.
[SPEAKER_02]: Now is a 28 year old who's kind of like, okay, he's, he can fit on a team.
[SPEAKER_02]: But I just don't, so I tried to do like again, this is what I want to do while we're doing this.
[SPEAKER_02]: I tried to find comparables to a guy like Avon Herrera being traded.
[SPEAKER_02]: There haven't been a whole lot of those in the 21st century, because you're talking there, catchers don't get traded very often in deadline for one, right?
[SPEAKER_02]: But catchers who are kind of catchers slash DHS, who are in that, who's our productive players though.
[SPEAKER_02]: He's been like a, like a two war type player, most years, who still have team control,
[SPEAKER_02]: couldn't find an example of a guy like that who's then been, you know, traded at the deadline.
[SPEAKER_02]: Mate, that means it won't happen.
[SPEAKER_02]: But I do think, I think you get real valued there, but at the same time, I think that's more of a guy that kind of kind of gets usually moved at the off season than it is a guy gets moved in season.
[SPEAKER_02]: But maybe this is your the change of set.
[SPEAKER_00]: All right, from Paul Roberts eight to see how do the red socks that we are going to talk to Ian, how do the red socks pivot after the injury to Curtis me, of course.
[SPEAKER_00]: This was the trade that sent commonly early back to the Washington Nationals one for one swap Curtis me breaks his wrist after getting the Boston Ian, what are the red socks to.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, talk about bad luck, you know, his second played appearance with the team gets hit on the wrist and now he's out.
[SPEAKER_01]: It looks like it's going to be looks like it might not require surgery.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's the latest reporting.
[SPEAKER_01]: So six, eight weeks is the minimum, which, you know, which that runs you up right against the end of the season.
[SPEAKER_01]: But I think that in a weird way, it doesn't, it makes the need to, I think they needed to acquire another battle already, and I think that just makes that need even greater now.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, they, they were already light on right handed hitters even with adding meat or not that doesn't have to be a right hand hitter anymore.
[SPEAKER_01]: I just just think hitters in general without adding meat's injury.
[SPEAKER_01]: And now I think they got to go out and get another middle infield there.
[SPEAKER_01]: And it sounds like, you know, they are trying to do that.
[SPEAKER_01]: We'll see if they're able to
[SPEAKER_01]: to make anything happen, but yeah, I think, you know, another hater, it's probably somebody can play up the middle, then maybe a starter, because the other part of that is, you know, now you don't have Curtis Meade, you don't have Connolly earlier anymore.
[SPEAKER_01]: And you look at the rotation.
[SPEAKER_01]: Jake Bennett's already exceeded his things total from last year and his first year off Tommy John, Peyton, our first full season, Peyton told he's exceeded his innings limit or innings total from last season.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, they have some young pictures who you're not going to want to push as aggressively as maybe you have so far in the season and their depth options are just windling fast.
[SPEAKER_01]: So I think adding a starter is actually something that's kind of important for them.
[SPEAKER_01]: And yeah, I mean, they, they Craig Russell has just worked out for me.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, this is just a brutal luck.
[SPEAKER_01]: There's nothing you can do about it.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, you couldn't foresee this happening.
[SPEAKER_01]: And now I think it's almost a reset like they're back to square one with the deadline.
[SPEAKER_01]: You just don't have commonly early as a trade chip anymore.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oops, that's a great, now.
[SPEAKER_00]: From Jake Wood 72, JJ, would the white socks be willing to move a guy from their big league club could a braided Montgomery be gotten for the right price?
[SPEAKER_02]: Um, again, I will go back to the whole idea that everyone is available at the right price.
[SPEAKER_02]: Now, that right price might be what others would demon overpay depending on the, you know, the situation.
[SPEAKER_02]: I wouldn't say that Brady Montgomery is the guy like the white sucks.
[SPEAKER_02]: I feel like are in a good spot here from a standpoint of they, they actually, they're, they're, they're both competitive and I would think on top of that.
[SPEAKER_02]: They don't actually have a ton of like, when you look at the lineup, I don't feel like there's a ton of like, oh, they need to fix this, right?
[SPEAKER_02]: Like, the government's been pretty good.
[SPEAKER_02]: He's a 23 year old who's been fine so far.
[SPEAKER_02]: Like, if you're gonna trade him, what's the, I guess the question I would ask is, what are you trying to do, right?
[SPEAKER_02]: Like if you said, hey, we're going to get a front of the rotation starter, like for whatever reason, like the tigers are trading, you know,
[SPEAKER_02]: And they're saying, yeah, we're really out of it.
[SPEAKER_02]: We'll send Scooble, it's not gonna be Scooble.
[SPEAKER_02]: But, you know, if you said like, that kind of guy, and they, but Brady Montgomery have to be in it, okay, you definitely would think about that.
[SPEAKER_02]: But,
[SPEAKER_02]: If you said, like, okay, like, I'm going to trade, my government kind of my start, we'd question why.
[SPEAKER_02]: Like, what is the reason that he would be the guy you're looking to trade rather than, you know, I mean, I thought the Jacob because always trade was a really smart thing that they did where it's like, hey, Jacob's always a little bit of found money at this point and he's probably not a short stop long term.
[SPEAKER_02]: Let's cash out now.
[SPEAKER_02]: Good job.
[SPEAKER_02]: But they kind of like, if you're going to cash out in a guy I cash out on Tristan Peters nothing against he's had a great season and all star season, but like that's to me the guy where you're like, okay, maybe I'm selling at my peak value.
[SPEAKER_00]: Kind of in line with that one, can you see the white socks potentially making any moves this deadline in.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, I think you have to.
[SPEAKER_01]: If you're them, you know, this is a team that surprised it would very exceeded expectations is unexpectedly finds themselves right in the thick of things.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, they if I think the third best record in the American league right now, they're leading the American league central.
[SPEAKER_01]: And you look at what the biggest need on this team is and I think it's it's a pretty clear their lineup I think is very good since they got my economy back their kind of performing like they were early in the season, which is interesting because he hasn't been great, but I think just the attention he brings and just the way he lengths lengthens their lineup has just made everyone else around him better, which is just fascinating that he's had such a big impact on them.
[SPEAKER_01]: But I think it's starting pitching, you know, you look at that rotation and beyond Sean Burke and Davis Martin, you don't really trust anyone else.
[SPEAKER_01]: I would say right now.
[SPEAKER_01]: So I think that going out and, you know, finding a starter would be the key.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think the interesting thing is they're in a position where they have some prospect.
[SPEAKER_01]: kind of depth at certain positions that they could move and I don't think it would make that a good deal.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, if they really wanted to get after it, someone like Caleb Bonnermer, I think could be very interesting to a team like the Mariners, because the Mariners obviously have too many starters.
[SPEAKER_01]: They have Kate Anderson, Ryan Sloan, lurking.
[SPEAKER_01]: They would have make someone like an Emerson Hancock or Bryce Miller who's got team control available.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think, you know, a package centered around someone like Caleb Bonamer could make a lot of sense for both teams, given the Mariners need hitting white socks have Bonamer, but they don't really have a spot for him in the infield right now.
[SPEAKER_01]: So I think that starting pitching is definitely the key for them.
[SPEAKER_02]: Can I just add like, I don't even think that would necessarily take bond like depends on what you go, but like I'm absolutely incox not going to take bond number to me.
[SPEAKER_02]: Probably not.
[SPEAKER_02]: Like your thing, I'm to me, you're talking about then, it's like, hey, what about kind of like, you know, I think you're talking about like,
[SPEAKER_02]: Hey, we'll give you a, you know, a bergoye, uh, uh, uh, uh, you probably, the problem for the quice sucks when I look at this is there isn't that next here.
[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe Billy Carlson, if you the white sucks, if the Mariners like Billy Carlson, like they don't have that, they don't have that guy who's at the like one to one 50 range of kind of the global position player ranking, you know, like, they don't have that guy that their next guys are the guys they just drafted.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, or it's reliever, or it's probable relievers, guys like Kagan Smith, Tana McDougall.
[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, they are in a weird spot with that, I agree.
[SPEAKER_00]: Along the lines of relievers, JJ, back to you, who are some bench players that you believe could be moved?
[SPEAKER_00]: And also, what is the value range that some of them get?
[SPEAKER_00]: Also, is Nick Lofton a player that you could see teams wanting?
[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, so this is where I'm gonna do the, you know,
[SPEAKER_02]: The, okay, I'm going with my, let me call up players if I've been traded in the past.
[SPEAKER_02]: So these are all, like, the reality of it is, I'll just tell you, I think the answer to your question is, yes, there will be some traded and their value will be almost nothing.
[SPEAKER_02]: This generally, that is the range.
[SPEAKER_02]: To me, this is like my overarching point, I will make about this is, when you say like, should the white socks make moves?
[SPEAKER_02]: 100% they should, because, okay, there are,
[SPEAKER_02]: They're probably like five tiers, but let's be really simple here and say there are three tiers of trades at the deadline right we have that top tier of like, oh, okay, we're probably going into the five tiers we have that schoolable trade right the the one where you're like it's going to cost you a bazillion.
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, a bazillion, you know, some olias of prospect at talent and or maybe long cost controlled major leagueers and all that.
[SPEAKER_02]: And you know that it is like a franchise altering move on both sides, right?
[SPEAKER_02]: So you have those kind of traits.
[SPEAKER_02]: And then you have the, that's the rental though.
[SPEAKER_02]: So then you also have the Mason Miller type trade where it's like you're getting the stud and he's got years of team control that's said that same bucket, those tiers.
[SPEAKER_02]: Then you have the tier of, I'm getting a starting pitcher, I'm getting a short stop, I'm getting a starting catcher.
[SPEAKER_02]: These positions of value, right now, maybe it is, I'm getting a right-handed hitting power bat.
[SPEAKER_02]: We saw Colonel Curtis Meade netted when healthy, a pretty solid return.
[SPEAKER_02]: Those are in this return of, okay, it's gonna cost you still significantly, not that same level, it's gonna cost you.
[SPEAKER_02]: Once you get below that, when you get to the veteran outfielder,
[SPEAKER_02]: DH, reliever, this starter, bench player.
[SPEAKER_02]: At that level, if you are willing to take on salary,
[SPEAKER_02]: you can generally get those for window dressing prospects is what I would call.
[SPEAKER_02]: Like, where you're sending a prospect over or two, but there's about a two to three percent chance that you'll ever, that three years later, you even remember what the prospect trades.
[SPEAKER_02]: The example I always loved used for this is the Braves 2021 outfield, where they went and added an entire outfield.
[SPEAKER_02]: Their outfield was Abraham Almante, Guillermo, Horadia, and Orlando, RCA.
[SPEAKER_02]: it like mid July and it's like you can't win a world series with that.
[SPEAKER_02]: So they went out and they got Adam Duval, they got Jacques Peterson, they got Eddie Rosario, and they got Jorge Slayer.
[SPEAKER_02]: Three of those four deals that Eddie Rosario was, if you'll take his contract, we'll take him, and by the way, we don't, we're not asking for the full contract.
[SPEAKER_02]: We'll take Pablo's sand of all's contract back, and we're just dumping Pablo's sand of all the next day.
[SPEAKER_02]: So that was a pure salary dump.
[SPEAKER_02]: Then you have the Horace Seler for Casey Kaelic.
[SPEAKER_02]: That's a salary dump in name.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's like, we're getting a reliever who never will pitch in the majors and will be out of our organization in two years.
[SPEAKER_02]: Then you got Jacques Peterson,
[SPEAKER_02]: first basement who is four years away, if it clicks and probably won't, which was price quality never made the majors.
[SPEAKER_02]: And then the last one was the Duval trade was Alex Jackson.
[SPEAKER_02]: We'll give you a backup catcher, who will give you negative war and then you'll release them after the season or trade them for nothing, basically after the season.
[SPEAKER_02]: That's all it costs.
[SPEAKER_02]: So with this, the value range is, is that,
[SPEAKER_02]: I would not be going for a three years, five years of team control kind of left guy.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'd be going for the guy who's in the last year of a deal who's got a little bit of money to him.
[SPEAKER_02]: The Paul D. Young's get traded like this every year is what I would say.
[SPEAKER_00]: Ian, do you think the recent trend of prospect hugging continues or will teams you more aggressive, especially in wide open air?
[SPEAKER_01]: It's a really interesting question because I think that
[SPEAKER_01]: anywhere close to a playoff spot.
[SPEAKER_01]: You probably could convince yourself that you can win the vegan, the minimum also because you look at the top teams.
[SPEAKER_01]: The Yankees are not the same Yankees.
[SPEAKER_01]: They were on opening day.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're getting their pitching staff back with that lineup.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's just not close to scary as it was without Aaron's judge, Cody Bellinger and Giancarla Stanton.
[SPEAKER_01]: And then you look beyond that the race.
[SPEAKER_01]: The race obviously they've shown they can be a great regular season team, but they're track record and the playoffs is not great as a late.
[SPEAKER_01]: So
[SPEAKER_01]: If you're one of these teams that you can convince yourself that, you know, you have a chance to beat those teams, come October, then yeah, I think we could start to see teams being more aggressive.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think the race of the one honestly that come to mind because they could be aggressive and probably not really feel much of an impact.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like their farm system is so good that they could trade guys in the teens that would be in the top five's of most other systems and they wouldn't really feel any impact.
[SPEAKER_01]: So I think it different levels to it cause like the rays could be aggressive without touching their top 10.
[SPEAKER_01]: But if you look at some other teams, like the Red Sox, for example, I think if the Red Sox wanna make any sort of a big move, they're gonna have to dip into their top 10, especially with some like Connelly earlier, already moved.
[SPEAKER_01]: So,
[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's kind of a sliding scale, depending on how good the farm systems are, but I think the combination of how wide open the American league is along with three school potentially being available is going to make it so we see kind of more at the top those those big name prospects getting to help more so then maybe in past years.
[SPEAKER_00]: JJ this question also makes me wonder from you.
[SPEAKER_00]: You've been looking into as you've said a couple times already just the trends overall at the deadline What value team has been getting over the years has the value Accessible at the deadline in terms of immediate impact Deplined in recent years what what are teams actually buying that are gonna choose to quote unquote not prospect hug
[SPEAKER_02]: I would say again, we obviously did have the Mason Miller to move, you know, we've had like I don't say it's like it's, you know, but if you take the, you know, we had one soda traded a couple years ago, but if you take AJ Preller out of that, I feel like in some of you also have had the Dodgers takes some swings out saying these years, but it does stand out to me like when I was doing this like the top 10 most significant moves by your moves at the deadline.
[SPEAKER_02]: The Braves outfit in 2021 is the only one from the 2020s, right?
[SPEAKER_02]: Like 2008, CC sub-athia basically put a team on his back and got him to the playoffs, was incredible after the trade deadline of his required.
[SPEAKER_02]: But so was Mark to Chero.
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, it's hard to believe now, but you know, to remember now, but like the angels won 100 games that year, and Mark to Chero was a very, very important part of that.
[SPEAKER_02]: And by the way, Manu Ramira has hit 396 for the Dodgers that year after Deadline 2.
[SPEAKER_02]: Like, that's three trades that any one of those would have been by far more significant than any trade we've seen alter our landscape in the 2020s.
[SPEAKER_02]: But I will say with that, part of that probably also is though.
[SPEAKER_02]: The brewers did that trade and they just got in for the lone wild card in the NL with that.
[SPEAKER_02]: When you have three wild card spots,
[SPEAKER_02]: You could look at it either way.
[SPEAKER_02]: There's a little less urgency, like if you're part of it, you're probably like we might be able to get in without doing that, but that's where I come back to.
[SPEAKER_02]: I don't understand that though because again, I just studying these year after year after year, usually,
[SPEAKER_02]: you don't regret these moves.
[SPEAKER_02]: Like now you do sometimes again, Ryan Hellsley last year, if you said that he was a plant that when he went to the meds, like he was that bad.
[SPEAKER_02]: Like every now and then you have one of these moves and the guy that you acquire just ends up being terrible for the new team.
[SPEAKER_02]: But the prospect cost to these, we talk about it.
[SPEAKER_02]: And we're so few top hundred prospects get moved.
[SPEAKER_02]: And I think one misnomer about this, are we keep trying to say this, but I think it's really important.
[SPEAKER_02]: when a leod of rease gets moved and a leod top of the top hundred prospect that is so different than when nothing against Eduardo Tait but when an Eduardo Tait it's traded.
[SPEAKER_02]: Eduardo Tait fits in that mass of could be really good.
[SPEAKER_02]: We'll see.
[SPEAKER_02]: There's a like the difference between 50 to 150 in an overall top 100 is so much different than top 25, top 20.
[SPEAKER_02]: And the top 20 guys can, you know, bust as well, the top, the 55 guy, the 75 guy can hit, but your chances of both of those things go flip very much depending on where you're talking about that tier of prospect.
[SPEAKER_00]: All righty, moving down here from space magic storm.
[SPEAKER_00]: And by the way, if you want to ask a question like space magic storm did, you can comment that live.
[SPEAKER_00]: And we are just going to keep on chugging through them.
[SPEAKER_00]: The question is this, I'm an angel's fan.
[SPEAKER_00]: Finally, glad they're finally open for business.
[SPEAKER_00]: Not sure what they are willing to do, but if they do something massive, like move mic trout, it could be substantial difference in the team's future.
[SPEAKER_00]: I will turn this into a question for you, Ian.
[SPEAKER_00]: But odds on it, what is the likelihood that we see Mike trout in a different uniform starting next week?
[SPEAKER_01]: It's going to be pretty low because he has a full no trade clause, and I think he's made no indication that he is any interest in being moved, and ultimately, until he shows a willingness there, then it's basically 0.1%, probably.
[SPEAKER_02]: So that's part of it, and I hate to say this also because Mike trout's great, but like,
[SPEAKER_02]: The trade would also involve like you're not getting a return for him.
[SPEAKER_02]: Like if you said, Mike Trout is willing to be moved anywhere.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's not like if you said if the angels, the next question will be okay.
[SPEAKER_02]: How much of his salary are you willing to take on?
[SPEAKER_02]: as part of the move because if you said the angel is just wanted to take his salary it's like, okay, I'll do that, but you're going to have to give me two of your prospects.
[SPEAKER_02]: I want to ignore as in addition and I'll throw you back the worst player in our minor league system type move because he's signed through 30.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's expensive and he's going to be in his late 30s.
[SPEAKER_02]: You're now coming to the point of the mic trout contract where you always knew when you extended him that these are the painful years.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: And that's why I think like if you're the angels, I'm not sure it's that that's worth it because you're the return you're going to get from like you're out as you said is probably going to close to negligible.
[SPEAKER_01]: And so PR-wise that's that's not a great look.
[SPEAKER_00]: In what what do you what do you think the market is for Kevin Gosman.
[SPEAKER_00]: Gosman this year is a 4.5 on ERA 123 strikeouts over 121.2 innings for the blue jays what what's the the value
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, that's an interesting one, because I feel like he's a type of player that is in the higher end of starters that we see get moved at the deadline as a rental, who is on the older side of these 35 years old, but he's performing he's pitching like, you know, a mid rotation starter this year.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think JJ will probably have some more historical context on that, but I would guess yeah, you're probably looking at like a guy in the back of a top 10 of a system and then another guy in like, you know, probably 20 to 30 maybe just off the 30 I would see it think it's that.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I think he's a better pitcher than a point of reference I'm like thinking about in my head is Dustin May last year.
[SPEAKER_01]: And Dustin May got traded, which is obviously something the red socks, I think that trade they would take back if they could.
[SPEAKER_01]: They traded James Tibes in Zach Erhard for Dustin May and Tibes at the time was just inside the top.
[SPEAKER_01]: It was right around 10 to 15 and then Erhard was inside the top 20.
[SPEAKER_01]: So I think what you said Billy, you know, probably you could maybe have two guys from 15 to 20 or one fringe top 10 and then one from the 20 to 30 range, but maybe JJ you have it looks like you have some more context there.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, a couple of throughout, okay, so look at what I mean, he's younger, obviously, but look at what Scherzer netted when he went from the maps in 23.
[SPEAKER_02]: Not what Scherzer netted in 21, National's Dodge, but 23, that was more of a kind of a rental type at the, like a little bit on, and also like Scherzer, I think Scherzer was like a two-war performance that year, which is in that range of what Gospin was, didn't a little bit better, but a little bit older.
[SPEAKER_02]: And that was basically, if I remember I've taught my head, that's your, that's your, right, that's uh, uh, uh, who was that trade?
[SPEAKER_02]: That was uh, Ranger.
[SPEAKER_02]: So that would have been Luis and Helakunia and uh, you know, okay.
[SPEAKER_02]: Sorry.
[SPEAKER_02]: I answered the second part and I'll get to the, you know, but like heard actually top 10 prospects system.
[SPEAKER_02]: I get it.
[SPEAKER_02]: That's a shorthand.
[SPEAKER_02]: This is where my arcane, the nature of be being arcane.
[SPEAKER_02]: Ian laid this out.
[SPEAKER_02]: Define which top 10, because if you say Padre's top 10, and you say it's the number eight prospect in the Padre system, not pick it on the Padre's, but that's our number 30 org right now as far as farm system rankings.
[SPEAKER_02]: Padre's number eight is worse than the raise 22nd prospect problem.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: And so if you said, hey, I'm getting two top 10 prospects, but you're getting them from the podries, you're getting the fifth and eighth prospects in the Astros.
[SPEAKER_02]: And then the other one is is I've got an offer here and it's.
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I've got the 12th and 18th prospects from the raise.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, you know, again, like you've got to kind of, that's why we keep talking about top 100, 150 overall, 450, like those tiers, because you got to kind of look at it in the, I would say, more of the global landscape.
[SPEAKER_02]: But to go with your point, like would you rather have a top 10 or two 15 to 18s?
[SPEAKER_02]: very much depends on which order you're talking about.
[SPEAKER_02]: But I would say generally, if you're talking about the number 10 prospect of system versus the number 15 and 16, in a lot of systems, there's not much difference in the tier there.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I probably have the numbers, but that'd be my thought.
[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
[SPEAKER_00]: Could the tigers get a decent return for Casey Mise, Ian?
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think it's actually, he's an interesting one because I think he kind of fits what you're just talking about with the gospel in return.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I think there was another question that kind of throughout a couple of names from the raised system.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that person was actually being pretty realistic.
[SPEAKER_01]: I can't find the best right now.
[SPEAKER_01]: But they were being pretty realistic with the return because it was Xavier Isaac and Jose Irbina.
[SPEAKER_01]: And those guys in the race system, I believe are around like, you know, the late teens early 20s.
[SPEAKER_01]: And in the race system, that's very good, you know, they could be like Jose Irbina has has just a little bit of helium right now.
[SPEAKER_01]: Um, he's been a, you know, holding his veto.
[SPEAKER_01]: He's throwing more strikes.
[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, and so he's someone if I was the Tigers, like I actually think he's he's a very interesting trade target.
[SPEAKER_01]: Um, Xavier Isaac, well, it has the upside, you know, the power is very real.
[SPEAKER_01]: The contact ability has been really inconsistent this season, but I think that's actually a pretty reasonable like ask if you're the Tigers.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's, you know, one of one of, that's the kind of range you're probably looking at for someone like casing my eyes given how deep the race system is.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's to me that's kind of the nursing good job moving along Marlin's fan if the Marlin's decide to sell some of their pieces how valuable are those players like auto Lopez, Erie Berto Hernandez, Liam Hicks and bullpen pieces JJ.
[SPEAKER_02]: So why'd range there, right?
[SPEAKER_02]: As we said with bullpen pieces, I would say in general with bullpen pieces.
[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, I'm calling up the marvelous to make sure I've got kind of there kind of guys for that, right, but like
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, you're not getting, you know, most of their guys, you're not getting much for it.
[SPEAKER_02]: That's got to be honest with the bullpen guys.
[SPEAKER_02]: Like, okay, who's the bullpen guy?
[SPEAKER_02]: Like, Pete Fairbanks, you know, Calvin Fosche, you're not getting, like, those are like, if you want them, you can have them and give us a prospect in return, but that's kind of whatever.
[SPEAKER_02]: Now the other guys we're talking about here.
[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, I don't think to me with auto low pez, it's at this point, you better while me.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not saying I won't trade them, but like, that guy's good, he's 27.
[SPEAKER_02]: There's no, I'm not feeling any ticking clock of like, I've got to move this guy.
[SPEAKER_02]: That's not a rental, that's a,
[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, yeah, now we're talking like a, I want at least a top 100, I probably asking for a top 50 range prospect of minimum.
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, that's a guy, I don't know if he's a five-war player, you know, you're after you're like, but if you wanted to make the case that him and Zack Neto aren't in dramatically different realms of where you're looking at,
[SPEAKER_02]: It's got less track record, but he's having a better year.
[SPEAKER_02]: That's really valuable.
[SPEAKER_02]: Arrowbirds are Hernandez.
[SPEAKER_02]: That's the kind of guy who now.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'll be kicked to eat it.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to kick to the end.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to just pass it along because there's one thing.
[SPEAKER_02]: I would absolutely be looking to trade him because why would baby some teams be interested in Arab or to Hernandez.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah crushes left hand at pitching right hand at power.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yep.
[SPEAKER_02]: The most rare source is like basically water in the Sahara right now is how little right and anyway that's what Arab and his does does it very well tender comes on the mound.
[SPEAKER_02]: Get the giant hook out like you're at the Paula and just pull him off the field.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think Hernandez is actually honestly someone that if I was the marlins of that group, I'd be the most interested in dealing because I think I'm not sure his values are going to get any higher than it is right now.
[SPEAKER_01]: He's having a fantastic season.
[SPEAKER_01]: I still think there's a lot of risk in his profile, you know, we we saw him coming up through the minors and he's I think he's dramatically outperform kind of his prospect pedigree or where he graduated.
[SPEAKER_01]: The it was very high chase rate like there's questionable contact skills with the powers very real and it's working really well this year and I think he's someone if I was the marlins I would see if I find someone who believes in his back and yeah, that's that's really interesting Uncle Ted prove it when you say you can find a million give me a list of five that are available right now.
[SPEAKER_00]: Comment it.
[SPEAKER_00]: We'll put it out in the screen.
[SPEAKER_00]: Uncle Ted, those of you who don't know, is a BA live stream regular, so we appreciate Uncle Ted showing up.
[SPEAKER_00]: And if you again, I will plug it over and over again.
[SPEAKER_00]: If you want to ask questions like Uncle Ted does, you can comment them wherever you're watching and we will put them on the screen.
[SPEAKER_00]: Just like space magic store, my kind of wonder if the Yankees will try and get multiple outfield pieces, given the judge and bellinger injuries JJ thoughts.
[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, simple, yes, they should because of what you just said now, but this is the interesting conundrum to me, right, which there is a world in which, look, everyone accuses that we're biased towards, you know, like Yankees prospects and dodgers prospects and all this.
[SPEAKER_02]: And, you know, we try to be as, as even handed as actors we can to some extent where we're like,
[SPEAKER_02]: I've been writing about Jason Mingaz for four years like he's fine, but he's nothing special.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not, I don't hate Jason Mingaz at just reality.
[SPEAKER_02]: This is kind of spelling it out, right?
[SPEAKER_02]: Would they try to get multiple outfield pieces?
[SPEAKER_02]: Potentially.
[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
[SPEAKER_02]: And then the
[SPEAKER_02]: So reporting that you're getting, the message that is being sent out is Jason Dominguez and Spencer Jones are going to be the guys who give them the pieces they need at the deadline.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, let me just say.
[SPEAKER_02]: Those two statements are in complete opposition.
[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm not saying you're saying it's based that just for, but those messages are, we need outfield help and we're gonna trade a guy who, two guys, one guy who's basically older, the older guy who's been in AA or higher for longer than Connor Griffin has been a professional.
[SPEAKER_02]: Or we're gonna trade the guy who's been a full year in the majors already and parts of other years.
[SPEAKER_02]: And neither of them we feel like can be the answer we need for the injuries that we currently have.
[SPEAKER_02]: But there, some other team is gonna be like, those are the guys that we need, what do you want?
[SPEAKER_02]: So I do think that they're probably gonna go out and get a veteran outfielder, but I just kinda do also think it's like, if this is not Jason Demingas' time, if this is not censored Jones' time, then win.
[SPEAKER_00]: Speaking of veteran outfielders, Ian could Andrew Friedman, Dango Taosker Hernandez, this deadline and get decent offers.
[SPEAKER_00]: Ian might have actually talked about this off air.
[SPEAKER_00]: Ian, why don't you share with the world your thoughts on this possibility?
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, I think it would be one of the most auditors possible moves to do.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, we've talked about it a bunch of times tonight.
[SPEAKER_01]: There's just a severe lack of right-handed hitting power options on the market right now.
[SPEAKER_01]: If Taosker Hernandez was available, you know, he probably would be up near the top.
[SPEAKER_01]: I know the contract is a little prohibitive, but what's the good thing the Dodgers could do?
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sure they know no problem pegs, some of that contract down in order to get a better return.
[SPEAKER_01]: And what do the Dodgers have a ton of outfield prospects?
[SPEAKER_01]: A couple of which, especially how someone like Hoseway to Paul, I know he's in double A, but he's going to be adds to the 40 man in the offseason now.
[SPEAKER_01]: If you're, if you want to find runway, you know, you want to kind of up your ceiling.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's not crazy to think that the Pollock could give them similar production down the stretch to someone like Hernandez, or they could also just go trade for a different outfit.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're like that one, you can't rule that out either.
[SPEAKER_01]: So, but I think, yeah, we'd be very on brand.
[SPEAKER_01]: We've seen it with Michael Bush.
[SPEAKER_01]: We saw it.
[SPEAKER_01]: with Gavin Luxe, like they love trading from their depth positions at the major level to augment their prospects and then they backfill with someone else and they're very good at it and I think this is a prime opportunity for for to do something like that given how the market is developing with the position of chaos and natives.
[SPEAKER_02]: I think I'm just add to that is what I would be interested to see is is what is the perceived like if you are thinking about trading for teoscore Hernandez.
[SPEAKER_02]: you really need to be doing some really hard work on that one because he is at an age.
[SPEAKER_02]: He's 33 and he's been bad this year.
[SPEAKER_02]: There is a chance that with a change of scenery, again, we're talking about two months.
[SPEAKER_02]: You could be talking about, okay, everything's fine, he's really rolling.
[SPEAKER_02]: Or there is a chance that it's like, you could acquire him at a month later, be like, he's worse than our guys in AAA.
[SPEAKER_02]: So the fact that if the Dodgers are willing to trade him,
[SPEAKER_02]: Part of that the subtext of that is it clears a spot for them to put in someone who might be better and that's where it's like I don't think the value like you said you're probably going to pay some of the contract I don't think I think you could get something I don't think it's going to be a lot on where we go could the brewers move Andrew Fisher what would it take you in.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's a great question, because I interferes one of the most fascinating prospects, I think, in minor league baseball right now, because what he's doing, there's no denying his production, there's no denying his power.
[SPEAKER_01]: He also has JJ, I think, had a great article about it today.
[SPEAKER_01]: The track record of players with his contact issues is not great.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think JJ, I'll kick it to you to tell through some of the names, but yeah, it's a very risky list.
[SPEAKER_02]: I will say this, right?
[SPEAKER_02]: OK, we just talked about Spencer Jones and Spencer Jones's contact issues and all that.
[SPEAKER_02]: Uncle Ted, I'm sorry, you keep trying to say that Andrew Fisher is playing elite defense at third.
[SPEAKER_02]: And I've never talked to him on the brewers who says that.
[SPEAKER_02]: But okay, you know, but with a guy like that, you are a hundred percent like embracing, you are embracing the chance that
[SPEAKER_02]: You're embracing the chance that you could really get someone in game change.
[SPEAKER_02]: He leads the miners and homers, right?
[SPEAKER_02]: Those are really good things.
[SPEAKER_02]: The flip side of that is, is that you also understand if you're acquiring him and you're giving up something significant, it could go the range of outcomes.
[SPEAKER_02]: Like if you're trading with the brewers, I'm gonna kick it back to Ian.
[SPEAKER_02]: If you're trading for the brewers, right?
[SPEAKER_02]: Do you want to trade for Andrew Fisher or do you want to trade for someone else in that ring?
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, like, okay, to be honest, I'm asking for, I look at the free us.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm asking, I'm like, I'm shooting the moon, but I'm shooting the moon in a slightly different way.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'll take the risk of, hey, oh, this is the next brewer's guy who's in the complaint, you know, then in the DSL, like, and maybe blossom, okay, I'm taking that guy or maybe I'm taking like,
[SPEAKER_02]: A couple of the, I'll take a swing at the Josh at the Tuskegee Brayland Pain era where I'm like, I'm mixing and matching where I'm getting the on base corner outfielder who doesn't have a ton of power and then I'm taking the guy who kind of is kind of got a little bit of the fisher profile, but less like that kind of thing, where how would you go?
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I agree.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think that there are other guys if the way that I would assume the Baru's are going to value Andrew Fisher at the deadline.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think there's some other guys in that range that are prefer.
[SPEAKER_01]: For frankly, if I'm going to take a risk on a hit to a power guy from that double a team, I think I might go for Blake Burke and just combine that and be like, give me Blake Burke and give me one of your DSL guys because, you know, Josh was just down on the DSL and has been singing the praise of the Epirus team.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think they have four or five guys in the top 30 from that team, and there's a couple more that they could even have.
[SPEAKER_01]: And so if you could get Blake Burke and one of those DSL lottery tickets, I actually think I'd probably prefer that to someone like Fisher because
[SPEAKER_01]: of just the race.
[SPEAKER_02]: Let's just say, you have to specify, if you say, and we want one of your best DSL guys with the brewers, you better set aside some time because it's like, yeah, it's crazy.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's like six, you know, so, a week of money.
[SPEAKER_00]: All righty, Marco, MDC 83, Orioles fan.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think the O's can and should trade guys like Ward and Adley, but still also by Adrian Morahone, Jake MacArthur, and Emerson Hancock are guys high on my list, Thoughts Ian.
[SPEAKER_01]: So, Oros are an interesting spot.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think they fit the mold of one of those teams that I was talking about earlier, where how the next five, six, seven games, however many they have left until the deadline go, it's gonna go a long way to determining
[SPEAKER_01]: the direction they take because right now they're two games out of the final wild card.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I would say, you know, last in games, they're five and five, they're kind of treading water.
[SPEAKER_01]: They have a negative run differential for the season.
[SPEAKER_01]: So on the surface, it doesn't look like it's a contending team.
[SPEAKER_01]: But at the same time, at some point, they have to just start going for it.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think, you know, you look at the players that were kind of expected to be their next core, Adley, Gunnar Henderson, guys like that.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like you're getting out of the the cheap years and
[SPEAKER_01]: You're going to have to stuff those guys are going to start costing real money soon and you made the big move for Peter Lanzo this off season.
[SPEAKER_01]: So I think if they if they hold with the two the two games then I could see that you know being a potential pathway, you know, do a little buy and sell.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think the track record of that is very mixed, you know, we've seen sometimes it works out great sometimes it doesn't work at all.
[SPEAKER_01]: But I think, you know, they have the catcher with Samuel Besire that maybe you want to move.
[SPEAKER_01]: be of great interest to me.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's just a matter of whichever lane they want to pick, won't just choosing it.
[SPEAKER_02]: The question I would ask is, OK, and I get creating Taylor Ward, like from a standpoint of like, that's kind of a rental, so like I get that.
[SPEAKER_02]: But like, so when you say like trade and buy, OK, I can see like if you really believe in Emerson, Hancock, that makes some sense, because that's a dude with a long, long left, they can track, track record, I've got controls.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's like, yeah, I've seen control.
[SPEAKER_02]: We're like, OK,
[SPEAKER_02]: We're selling, but we just bolt up our rotation, and that means we're both good for now and the future.
[SPEAKER_02]: Someone like Jake McCarthy, I think is much more fits into this helps you now more than the long term.
[SPEAKER_02]: I would say that it does make sense for them to be in that mood of sell, but we're not getting prospects for three years away.
[SPEAKER_02]: We're getting young big leaders who may help us in ways that we need help right now.
[SPEAKER_02]: Kind of way.
[SPEAKER_02]: I can see that.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: It kind of reminds me of the Red Sox a couple of years ago when they traded Christian Vaskas for will you're brave and men involved as and both those guys were high minors close to big league ready.
[SPEAKER_01]: A brave, quickly settled in as their everyday right field, their Valdez came up.
[SPEAKER_01]: had some got some playing time at second base wasn't great eventually he got flipped but yeah I agree I don't think you know you're going out there and targeting the kind of the DSL guys we were talking about earlier this is more a situation where you need to have guys that can have an impact in the next year you know to or to at the farthest away.
[SPEAKER_00]: RS-385-2 asks do you see Waka and Lugo getting much in
[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, I think Walker is the perfect kind of guy, especially, I think both of them, but I think Michael Walker, I would throw Michael Walker out in the rental world as the guy who you might be surprised by how much he brings back.
[SPEAKER_02]: Like, you've got a pretty lengthy track record here of both success and durability.
[SPEAKER_02]: He's done it in both leagues, not a tonnip much more in the AL than AL, but done in both leagues, which obviously doesn't mean as much as it did when I was younger.
[SPEAKER_02]: But I know he's older, but like again, you're talking about like, when we talk about Kevin Gospin early, obviously Kevin Gospin has a much higher profile over his career.
[SPEAKER_02]: The highs for Kevin Gospin are a good bit higher than the highs for Michael Waka.
[SPEAKER_02]: But if I'm talking about these guys are available, I think they're in the same range as far as I would have interest, like I think, again, I wouldn't say that Lugo doesn't have two, but Waka to me is a guy who really does jump out
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I would put Lugo in the, yes, I think that if you're the Royals, you absolutely should be looking at moving him to, but you know, Lugo, it was a five, fifth last year.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's a four point two five this year.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's he's 36.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's a four to two ER, right?
[SPEAKER_02]: Like, I think he's a guy who you move and you're going to get something.
[SPEAKER_02]: Walk as a guy where you actually may get some real pieces back.
[SPEAKER_01]: So fascinating question because a lot of it depends on how much you buy what he's doing this year and obviously the Mariners and made some changes, they've kind of been able to hide some of his deficiencies and they're one of the best orcs that doing that, you know, that's one of the best pitching development orcs in all a baseball.
[SPEAKER_01]: But at the same time or with that said, so if you're another team, you know, you have to be a little skeptical in the sense that he has not done this before it would he be able to do the same thing if we were to get him.
[SPEAKER_01]: because what he is doing is obviously very impressive, but he's cost-controlled.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that would be very appealing to a lot of teams.
[SPEAKER_01]: He's cheap, he's not going to be making any ton of money for a few years and he is a long-term entrepreneur.
[SPEAKER_01]: He's under control for, I think, what, four more?
[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's four seasons more.
[SPEAKER_02]: So 31 was when you'd be a free agent.
[SPEAKER_02]: So through the rest of the decade plus.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: So I mean, there's a lot, you'd have a lot of runaway with him.
[SPEAKER_01]: And he's on pastry like a three-war season, three-be-war season, like that.
[SPEAKER_01]: If you find a team, the right team that actually buys him is a three plus more pitcher with that much control.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I think that's the kind of deal where you're looking at.
[SPEAKER_01]: You're hoping to get a top 100 prospect.
[SPEAKER_02]: What I think you'd really have to dive into is how much of his damage avoidance is circumstance or how much of it is like, no, this is a real tangible exactly.
[SPEAKER_02]: for something that you can sustain.
[SPEAKER_02]: I will say the fact that the Mariners clearly seem willing to trade him.
[SPEAKER_02]: There's a part of me in the back of my head, it's like they do look at it and say like we've got six guys Luis Castillo is probably available because like he's kind of tailing off a little bit we got better guys and he's expensive Emerson Hancock's cheap the fact that they're willing to probably move him and not move take your pick up the curbies the lose the millers and all nearly as much tells me
[SPEAKER_02]: As the subtle under like they realize too, like they know that they're that this is not a guy in that same tier as those other guys, so they will move them then the question becomes okay, but can you come to an agreement on what tier you think he is in actually one I and I also think with the Mariners, this is not a team that.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, they had eye expectations this year.
[SPEAKER_01]: They were, I think, contending for a penant was a very realistic expectation after what they did last season.
[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, they haven't lived up to it right now.
[SPEAKER_01]: But the ALL last is wide open.
[SPEAKER_01]: And if you're trading someone like Hancock, I don't think you're going for prospects.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think you're, you're trying to move him for someone who can help you every day line up.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, upgrade at a different position.
[SPEAKER_01]: Kind of like what we talked about.
[SPEAKER_01]: a little earlier with the, I think it was the Orioles trade.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, the timeline should not be give us, you know, some low miners prospects with high ceilings.
[SPEAKER_01]: It should be give us guys who can impact our team right now.
[SPEAKER_02]: No, I think, but again, this is, this is what I would say is really impressive about this is.
[SPEAKER_02]: This is where I don't think that that hurts the brewers in all.
[SPEAKER_02]: Like, I don't know where Luis Pena fits for them in the long run.
[SPEAKER_02]: If you see that, okay, you, again, unless you're gonna move on from multiple guys, you have Bryce to ring, you have Cooper Pratt, you have Haisus today.
[SPEAKER_02]: And by the way, you've got other guys who could, but like, Luis Pena could be a third base, but it could be a second base, but it's been really good.
[SPEAKER_02]: But,
[SPEAKER_02]: They can trade him and be like, we're not missing that.
[SPEAKER_02]: We're good.
[SPEAKER_02]: I think if you're the tigers, that's not a craze like, okay, is Logan Henderson the guy I want packaged?
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm probably saying instead, and this is the concern much like Ian said with the Mariners.
[SPEAKER_02]: I know, I just watched what Freddie Perl did, right?
[SPEAKER_02]: I know that whoever I trade, there's a risk that they're not going to be as good for me as they were from Milwaukee.
[SPEAKER_02]: That said, I'm probably looking for a little less team control but a little bit more of like this guy is has had big league success to the point where I feel like, I'm replacing, I'm obviously not replacing one for one.
[SPEAKER_02]: You cannot trade to our school and feel like, oh, we just plop this guy into the rotation
[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, I guess my question would be, is it, is it, I mean, he's hurt right now, is it Kyle Harrison, you know, like, is that, or is that Kyle's Harrison gonna turn back into a pumpkin?
[SPEAKER_02]: Would you rather have Logan Henderson?
[SPEAKER_02]: I could see maybe you do.
[SPEAKER_02]: Like, Logan Anderson's been good in the majors.
[SPEAKER_02]: Like, I could see it, but that's what I'm talking about.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's like, okay, what's the best picture?
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm probably asking like you said, lower level water ticket.
[SPEAKER_02]: Ricky money, someone like that, or it's like, okay, I'm taking a chance on, you can even tell me, you can tell me you can, you're gonna, that you take two of your DSL guys off the table, like I can ask for a third or the third guy, like a that group.
[SPEAKER_00]: Should the Met's target prospects based on a pure talent, or should they focus on specific positions?
[SPEAKER_00]: They aren't trying to rebuild Ian.
[SPEAKER_01]: So I actually think the metzer in a position where it's just pure talent because I look at that.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's not a great farm system.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think a lot of the guys at the top that you were hoping would be able to take that step forward and then be able to impact the major league team this year have not had done that guys like Ryan Clifford Jonah Tong.
[SPEAKER_01]: uh, uh, Rimer, uh, Jacob Rimer, like, they've all had, I would say, down season's are just pointing season so far.
[SPEAKER_01]: So I, I just think with them where the meds are, I understand the need on trying to focus on specific positions, but I think in their case, they just need to add as much talent as possible and just give, you know, David Stearns as many chips as possible, heading into the off season to be able to make the moves they need to augment the majorly gross there.
[SPEAKER_02]: I would say with this, the good news about this is that you
[SPEAKER_02]: They're getting no production very little.
[SPEAKER_02]: They did not replace pedolons so well so far.
[SPEAKER_02]: Like Marvientos has not done that.
[SPEAKER_02]: Again, this boba shed a one year is he going to be there for one year or more.
[SPEAKER_02]: Like I think that there's a you know an open question on that.
[SPEAKER_02]: they haven't, like, they could use a better DH, like they could use, like, the great thing for them is is, okay, if you've got an up the middle infielder, well, you probably have Marcus Semians replacement in the long run.
[SPEAKER_02]: If you get a corner, you could have them at first, you could have them third, potentially long run.
[SPEAKER_02]: If you got an outfielder while they could probably still, you know, use a four, a half-fielder is DHing a good bit.
[SPEAKER_02]: Like, there are multiple positions here where you'd be like, okay, this could work out.
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I just want to thank everybody who's just joining us.
[SPEAKER_00]: We are an hour into our pre MLB Trade Deadline show.
[SPEAKER_00]: We've got over a thousand people watching us right now.
[SPEAKER_00]: If you've joined us about partway through, you'll notice at the bottom of the screen, we are running a promo at Baseball America.
[SPEAKER_00]: Make sure you head on over to BaseballAmerica.com from July 31st at this Friday until next Monday, which is the Trade Deadline August 3rd.
[SPEAKER_00]: You can use code trade at checkout at Baseball America to save 30% on the first year of any annual digital subscription.
[SPEAKER_00]: I would also encourage you while you're on our show today.
[SPEAKER_00]: Throw in your comments and questions.
[SPEAKER_00]: We are throwing them up on the screen and answering them.
[SPEAKER_00]: JJ, we are going to go back to you from Prometheus Hoops.
[SPEAKER_00]: What available player on the Rockies besides Hunter Goodman can net the best return?
[SPEAKER_02]: So I would start with
[SPEAKER_02]: Let's just start with acknowledging that once you get past 100 good then we are in a different world right like 100 good then is the you better wow us because this is a cornerstone guy for us by the way to go back to our theme of the night right hand to power and we're not going to trade him unless you really like we think that this is really going to make our team better in the future okay so now we've taken that out the next group is.
[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, TJ Rumfeld, Jake McCarthy, which I do think have some value, but the gap in value there is a canyon because as much as TJ Rumfeld is having a very good year and Kudos to the Rockies,
[SPEAKER_02]: I will say, the thing that stands out about the Rocky's this year that I want to give them a lot of credit for, the Rockies like the Angels have thrown away so many plate appearances over the last five years to wash up 32, 3, 4, 5, 6 year olds who you're like, they used to be good and it has never had really a whole lot of point for a bad team to do that.
[SPEAKER_02]: Basically, other than a catcher, Brett Sullivan, there's not been a 30 year old who's taken and at that for the Rockies this year.
[SPEAKER_02]: So they don't have anyone here that they have to trade, but I would say it's McCarthy and it's Brumfeld.
[SPEAKER_02]: And with both of them again, I would go back to the thing of saying, I would absolutely trade them for someone who I think is like gonna project as a future starter, even if it's like a,
[SPEAKER_02]: average starter, not done if it's been all starsome like that.
[SPEAKER_02]: But I'm also not just giving them away.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not trading TJ Rumpfield because you'll give me a fringe of year, basically a 50 high-type prospect.
[SPEAKER_02]: There's a lot of those out there, not doing that.
[SPEAKER_00]: Onward, we go.
[SPEAKER_00]: Could the Royals move Blake Mitchell or Ramon Ramirez this offseason?
[SPEAKER_00]: And who do you think is more likely in?
[SPEAKER_01]: So interesting question, obviously both catchers and with the way with Salvador Perez and kind of how he's obviously a legend from Royals legend, but his performance, I think his has dropped off pretty precipitously this season.
[SPEAKER_01]: So at some point, they're going to need to a changing of the guard there.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think that, you know, weird way, they are kind of, they're very different.
[SPEAKER_01]: The ways they get to their value, you know, you obviously have Mitchell who has huge power and a huge arm and he's a solid defender and then you're Vermeer, so I think as a better hit tool, but it's obviously not as impactful defensively because he doesn't have his big arm.
[SPEAKER_01]: So I think I'd probably lean towards the better defender, because I think ultimately it catcher that's what matters the most, you know, you need defense, you need the person who's
[SPEAKER_01]: back there to control the running game, and so that would probably give the edge to Mitchell for me.
[SPEAKER_01]: But I think the roles aren't really in a position where they need to choose.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think that they have other areas like that they could deal from.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that with how many questions they have beyond Perez in the future, I think that keeping both around is not the other world.
[SPEAKER_02]: If I go sad to that I don't think they move either of them because I don't think either have enough value to be worth moving Like you're going to have more value by developing them.
[SPEAKER_02]: Neither of those is like a prospect where you're like Wow, this is going to get you something game change.
[SPEAKER_02]: You got a different.
[SPEAKER_02]: They're not they're not either one of those like Blake Mitchell has some really great strengths Any team that you're calling is saying I'm interested.
[SPEAKER_02]: Why are you an extra Blake Mitchell's gonna be like I'm not saying I'm not interested, but
[SPEAKER_02]: I really worry about those context skills like I really like they're not going to be like you said Blake Mitchell you know that's kind of the the thing where I'm like that you know it's I don't think that those are the kind of moves at the rules the royals the walkers and Lugos of the world make a lot more sense for them to trade if they're kind of moving on The guardians need a bat JJ who yes yes I don't think anyone would argue that point they do need a bat I would say that okay like
[SPEAKER_02]: first base, they've been really bad at first base this year.
[SPEAKER_02]: I would say DH, like again, the good news about this is they need some positions that aren't like, they don't need a third base, and they're great there.
[SPEAKER_02]: They don't need,
[SPEAKER_02]: the positions they need are positions that you should be able to find something to fill.
[SPEAKER_02]: Always with the guardians you have to ask, are they willing to take on salary in any way?
[SPEAKER_02]: Usually the answer on that is probably not, but they do have a lot of prospects to trade also.
[SPEAKER_02]: So, yeah, I think that need a bat.
[SPEAKER_02]: I would say it is kind of, I would say in the fit that, you know, like they also, I think they could use another armor to and their pen to, so that would be the other thing out throughout.
[SPEAKER_00]: You see a team doing a complete fire sale like the twins last year, Ian?
[SPEAKER_01]: It's a really interesting question, because I would say on a whole, I think what the twins did last off season, I think, or let's excuse me, last in season, has kind of worked out really well.
[SPEAKER_01]: They completely rebuilt their starting rotation, added prospect depth.
[SPEAKER_01]: And their lineup is more, they have, I think, they've scored the most runs in the American League, I believe this season.
[SPEAKER_01]: So their lineup really is not missed the guys they dealt.
[SPEAKER_01]: So I think, yeah, I mean, if I'm a team
[SPEAKER_01]: the bull pen chips that the like the twins did last season.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's the most volatile group in all a baseball and that's a group that I wouldn't be holding on to.
[SPEAKER_01]: If I'm I'm rebuilding team.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think that, you know, obviously Johan Duran is fantastic.
[SPEAKER_01]: We've our let us turn into one of the best relievers in baseball.
[SPEAKER_01]: And, but, you know,
[SPEAKER_01]: That's the kind of guys that you can move if you're a team that's at it.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's not contending and get a very, very substantial return for because those guys come with cost control.
[SPEAKER_01]: And you know, and the other one, Griffin jacks obviously who turned into a torch Bradley who's turned into twins best starter.
[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, I think it's a very interesting concept that twins obviously took it to an extent.
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if we'll ever see again.
[SPEAKER_01]: But I think we could see some teams that are kind of, you know, in the more rebuilding phase look to move to three four, especially bullpan arms to kind of just do with the twin state because there's just a lot of fungibility in that kind of group.
[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, I'm going to throw the crazy question out there.
[SPEAKER_02]: Is the team to do that the only team that I think that could do that if they wanted to, which would be really weird.
[SPEAKER_01]: would be the blue jays who did the acquisitions last year, right?
[SPEAKER_01]: Like, and I raised that question because I do think like the Tyler Rodgers is the type of guy who, again, that's not a fire stuff.
[SPEAKER_02]: You just trade him, but if you said that they flipped it, now Louis Varlans having an incredible year for them.
[SPEAKER_02]: But like if you said that, hey, Louis Varlans, Tyler Rodgers, Jeff Hoffman, like, you know, like multiple these guys are available, I do agree with Ian.
[SPEAKER_02]: rebuilding bullpens is something that is not the same as we just traded our infield.
[SPEAKER_01]: What about the mats?
[SPEAKER_01]: The other, the other one I would look at, because Luke Weaver, I think Luke Weaver Brooks Rayleigh would have a lot of interest.
[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe you can find someone to take on Devon Williams and then you just kind of reset with your bullpen and build it again this off season.
[SPEAKER_02]: But to go back to that, I think the problem with those is I think those guys have some value.
[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think you're going to tongue out them because they're like they're not as violent as the guy that you're going to get like, okay, we really will pay you for that.
[SPEAKER_02]: Devin Williams, like you said, it's going to be much more like, yeah, we'll take them.
[SPEAKER_00]: And a question here from Brian B. JJ, this is for you, aside from the Rocky's prospects, who are some guys that could see an opportunity once their team sells.
[SPEAKER_02]: Um, I think the, the one I would say more than anything is is if George Lombard Jr is not up in New York in August.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm kind of, be scratching my head going, well, why not, you know, like, that's what I would say.
[SPEAKER_02]: Um, otherwise Rob the four, a little bit of revisionist history there, but no, we didn't think that Nick Madderball is Connor Griffin.
[SPEAKER_02]: We never had him in our top 40.
[SPEAKER_02]: ever.
[SPEAKER_02]: It was never higher than 40 on a be a top 100.
[SPEAKER_02]: So, sorry, but just not true.
[SPEAKER_02]: But okay, I would say that Lombard is one.
[SPEAKER_02]: I would say, I guess we we're talking about this earlier today, like if Max Clark's not up in August,
[SPEAKER_02]: what's going on because he's been in triple I all year and they've kind of the tigers have thrown out some outfielders who are conversely described as waiver claims.
[SPEAKER_02]: So I would say that's another one, E&E one, come to mind for you.
[SPEAKER_01]: Brady House, he's already up, so that was, because he was obviously came up with the me joke.
[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, I think a long bar, our long bar is the big one.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think Volpi was someone that we featured in a column I wrote, or co-wrote this week about players
[SPEAKER_01]: shape players in need of a change of scenery.
[SPEAKER_01]: Long barred would have been the benefit theory if someone like Anthony Volpe gets dealt.
[SPEAKER_01]: And so I think that, uh, yeah, he would he's the biggest one that really stands out for me.
[SPEAKER_00]: Ian, Suarez and Caleb Ferguson to the Guardians.
[SPEAKER_00]: What kind of return could that get?
[SPEAKER_01]: Given how much money is tied up in, uh, you journey as far as I'm going to guess not very much like I feel like this is where you're getting what prospector the red sending and in the dragon trade, how much money are they sending and are they taking like a DSL flyer maybe like I don't think you're getting a ton in a deal like that because of the money that's tied up with Swars and his lack of performances here.
[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think the guardians are a team that's ever like I don't think the guardians are a fit their either like the guardians like
[SPEAKER_02]: No, we will go for a more less expensive corner about it for going for a corner of that.
[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
[SPEAKER_00]: What is one prospect each of you see pretty sure is moving during the trade deadline, Ian will start with you.
[SPEAKER_01]: Good question.
[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think anyone.
[SPEAKER_02]: There's no such thing as it prospects who will move like there are prospects who may Dodgers outfielder, but there's no like this player is absolutely moving.
[SPEAKER_02]: They're just aren't enough significant prospect trades at the deadline for someone to be surely moving.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think if you're, if you think of someone it's probably, you know, you're guessing on a lower level prospect and it's just gonna be all luck.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think we've kind of laid out the archetype of prospects that teams are gonna be going for.
[SPEAKER_01]: But I think it's hard, really, it's very, it's extremely difficult, like it would just be a guess of any specific player.
[SPEAKER_00]: Awesome.
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I think that is going to do it for us on our pre-trained deadline live show.
[SPEAKER_00]: There is a lot to look forward to at baseball America.
[SPEAKER_00]: So stick with me for a second before we officially say goodbye.
[SPEAKER_00]: If you head on over to baseballamerica.com.
[SPEAKER_00]: As I said at the top of the show, we've got all of our prospect coverage top 30s are updated.
[SPEAKER_00]: We have a top 100 in the works that's coming out soon.
[SPEAKER_00]: There is a deal at baseball America.
[SPEAKER_00]: use the code trade that's TRAD all caps at checkout at baseballamerica.com to save 30% on the first year of any annual digital subscription.
