[SPEAKER_00]: Welcome back, baseball, America Hot Cheat Show.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm Jacob Rudner, joined by JJ Cooper Ian Cundall and Jeff Ponds.
[SPEAKER_00]: The trade deadline is behind us and man.
[SPEAKER_00]: Do we have a lot to talk about before we do it?
[SPEAKER_00]: I gotta remind you, head on over to baseballamerica.com to see all of our written content.
[SPEAKER_00]: There's so much of it analyzing everything that went down on the trade deadline.
[SPEAKER_00]: Also, if you've got questions for us, throw them on in the chat.
[SPEAKER_00]: We're gonna answer them during the show.
[SPEAKER_00]: But first, let's hit the first move.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, indeed trade line trade deadline is done no top 25 prospects traded but five from our top 25 top 100 excuse me to Inside the top 50 there they are Anthony.
[SPEAKER_00]: I am St. Argin namala.
[SPEAKER_00]: Zayer hope case with her spoon and Jefferson Rojas jj about typical for a trade deadline to see that many top prospects go on the move
[SPEAKER_03]: No, we've had recent years where no top 100 prospects are traded.
[SPEAKER_03]: I would describe this as one of the busiest trade deadlines we've seen in years.
[SPEAKER_03]: We had more top 100 prospects traded in 2022, but really you could call that the one soda rule.
[SPEAKER_03]: If you took one soda trade out of that, there would have been fewer.
[SPEAKER_03]: So you really could say that this is one of the, without doubt, this is one of the busiest of the 2020s.
[SPEAKER_03]: There's another five who aren't that far off of the list.
[SPEAKER_03]: You could make arguments for as well.
[SPEAKER_03]: So you really did see I would say 10 premium prospects.
[SPEAKER_03]: And then a whole lot, I think we ended up breaking 85 in total, but a whole lot of other prospects, but 10 premium prospects traded at the deadline is a very large number.
[SPEAKER_00]: What were some of the trade deadline moves that we liked?
[SPEAKER_00]: Ian, I'll start with you.
[SPEAKER_00]: What's it up?
[SPEAKER_02]: I think the one that obviously stood out the most was the Orioles.
[SPEAKER_02]: They made the biggest deal of the deadline trading out of the eruption into the Red Sox for a very substantial prospect all.
[SPEAKER_02]: I think that when you look at what they got back and I'll extend it to the Michael for that for Tyler Wells deal.
[SPEAKER_02]: They really have a size pitching.
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, you look at the deal with the Red Stocks, Anthony I and Sin, Tyson with their spoon, you know, that's too high end graphics from last year, Michael Fretz and other guys who's kind of been on the periphery of the top 100, kind of in that 125, 150 range.
[SPEAKER_02]: all season and it's taken a step forward with the race so you know they added a lot of talent and then NDA as a car of course is the big position player, but you just beyond that you know they added your Leonardo race from the twins.
[SPEAKER_02]: I think just the Orioles as a whole were one of the clear winners of the deadline yesterday gave up a lot of talent but they also brought a lot back and I'm rushing you to boost their system which I think was lacking some depth.
[SPEAKER_02]: So yeah I would say they were one of the biggest winners for me.
[SPEAKER_00]: Jeff, who's down to you?
[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, I think I'm going to go here with the cardinals.
[SPEAKER_05]: Now I know, you know, they didn't swing.
[SPEAKER_05]: We'll see as big a deals.
[SPEAKER_05]: But I would say they had less to sell, just in terms of it's a very young core that's maybe experienced a little bit more success.
[SPEAKER_05]: They have one of the deeper forms systems in the game after, you know, a very busy trade deadline last year.
[SPEAKER_05]: I think a pretty good draft class based on all accounts and measures.
[SPEAKER_05]: And then they went out and I think,
[SPEAKER_05]: Swung one of the more surprising deals in that dust and made deal to be able to bring back a potentially breakout prospect that I'm not sure we in the public space if necessary fully adjusted to in Josiah Ragsdale and then Alex Inder Freyis who I think is probably one of the more exciting low level prospects and when we look at some of these prospect four major league or trades funny enough it
[SPEAKER_05]: You know, maybe the percentages of it working out or lower, but the percentages of like hitting on a really, really high in player are much higher.
[SPEAKER_05]: That's not just in terms of the deadline, but I just think historically we've seen, you know, guys like Fernando T's junior, of course, we're an hour as we're guys that, you know, move for major league, as well.
[SPEAKER_05]: They were complex players even zi or hope who.
[SPEAKER_05]: eventually turned into a player that the Dodgers were able to use as a headliner to land the best player on the market and to our school.
[SPEAKER_05]: So I think some of what the cardinals do was interesting though it might not be on as big of a scale as maybe the Orioles or the angels who I think are another team that did pretty well with this deadline.
[SPEAKER_00]: Let's talk about those angles for a second.
[SPEAKER_00]: This was kind of a typical deadline relative to what's gone on for about the past decade, if not more than that.
[SPEAKER_00]: For that franchise, JJ, the Angel's deadline, positive negative, you were a great piece over at baseball America just on your thoughts.
[SPEAKER_00]: Why don't you explain some of that here?
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going to have to say positive because I wrote that at baseball market calm and the reason I say positive is that this is what the angels have been unwilling to do.
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm not saying they've never made a trade deadline.
[SPEAKER_03]: We highlighted they did the logo and a hoppy trade a few years ago, which worked out okay, but obviously not as well as they hoped.
[SPEAKER_03]: They did the Samuel out of Gary and George Cawson deal a couple of, you know, a couple of years after that.
[SPEAKER_03]: So they have made moves, but we saw them make more moves kind of more willingness to accept that if you've had a losing record for every year of the past decade, you're probably not one move, one acquisition away from being a playoff team.
[SPEAKER_03]: And that's been something they've been unwilling to do year after year after year.
[SPEAKER_03]: And these moves, I don't think that this is going to utterly transform the farm system or something, but Arjun Namala is the best guy that any, you know, you can argue with him and the Einstein are the two highest-free prospects who are traded.
[SPEAKER_03]: This is good as anyone that went at the deadline.
[SPEAKER_03]: That's eight.
[SPEAKER_03]: huge and key piece for the for the angels to add.
[SPEAKER_03]: But I would say beyond that, even with some of the lesser ranked prospects they added, this is the team that needs more depth.
[SPEAKER_03]: We do think I do think this farm system is better than has been in past years.
[SPEAKER_03]: I think that their new approach of being a little slower about pushing their prospects off the ladder to the majors is a wise one, but but overall.
[SPEAKER_03]: the willingness to accept that holding on to some of these guys who even have a couple years left isn't going to be the difference between winning 73 games next year and winning 85 is probably key for them actually getting to that next team that could win 85 to 90 or more.
[SPEAKER_00]: And the angels weren't the only selling theme that took advantage of yesterday's market.
[SPEAKER_00]: The giant's also three trades landed a number of standout prospects.
[SPEAKER_00]: Ian, what did you think of
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I thought the giants were one of the big winners too, and I think the thing that really stood out to me was the amount of arm talent they added.
[SPEAKER_02]: You look what they targeted.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's high v-low, big stuff pitchers that you can dream on having ceilings.
[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that kind of applies the position players too, but
[SPEAKER_02]: You look at the top room and Mark has I think he's someone who's really popped this year with the fillies He's got one of the best change ups in minor league baseball three pitch mix like there's a chance for a mid-rotation starter there Henry Lone who his was one scene as a really high-end pitching prospect with the Yankees had a couple years battling injuries has come back in a big way this year I know Josh Josh Norse over baseball America's our colleagues saw him throw his best start of the season and and he's been excellent this year But even going further, you know you look at some of the guys that are maybe not in the
[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, you know, the top 100 periphery, um, someone like Miguel Mendez stores really hard big stuff.
[SPEAKER_02]: And then Johnny or Hernandez is kind of the sleeper for me.
[SPEAKER_02]: He was one of the podries being international signings last year.
[SPEAKER_02]: Out of Cuba, got I think around 1.4 million.
[SPEAKER_02]: And he's been one of the standout players in the DSL this season.
[SPEAKER_02]: I think he's going to rank very highly when we do our DSL rankings and talking to a scout down there, uh, thought he was one of the better players that they saw.
[SPEAKER_02]: Like this is a guy who's a really good athlete.
[SPEAKER_02]: He's got a potential to hit.
[SPEAKER_02]: He's got, uh,
[SPEAKER_02]: power, you know, this is the kind of swing you should be taking you for the giants and just adds another really impressive middle and fielder to their staple of young middle and fielders in the low miners right now.
[SPEAKER_00]: Let's talk about teams that maybe didn't have impressive days Jeff, I go to your first who stood out maybe for what they didn't do or or just maybe didn't take advantage of the opportunity to sell the way they should have.
[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, I think the biggest criticism probably has to go to Atlanta.
[SPEAKER_05]: I know that our former colleague, Hizyu's cano kind of asked the direct question to Alex and Pablo, she asked today, but I think when you look at the position that this team is in right now, when you're facing a colossus like the Dodgers and maybe have an opportunity to,
[SPEAKER_05]: You know, potentially buy some players.
[SPEAKER_05]: You don't have the same restrictions that the Milwaukee Brewers do in terms of the type of aggressive moves you can make.
[SPEAKER_05]: I mean, we've seen that the Braves probably be arguably the second most aggressive team over the last five, the 10 years in terms of trading their prospects for proven big league talent outside of the Dodgers.
[SPEAKER_05]: And it felt as if it was a missed opportunity because the system is in a much better state than it had been.
[SPEAKER_05]: In previous years, I think there's still a lot of talent in this system.
[SPEAKER_05]: Even outside of Eric Hartman, if he was kind of within that untouchable window for them in certain deals, it does feel like other teams around them within the national league in particular did a good job of kind of fortifying their pitching staff.
[SPEAKER_05]: And, you know, if you're a brave fan, you're kind of left here looking at a rotation that has, you know, a pretty significant question marks.
[SPEAKER_05]: heading into the stretch run here and potentially into the postseason as they're one of the top teams in the national league.
[SPEAKER_03]: So I'm not gonna really offer defense of the brace, but I did kind of as looking at one thing that did stand out to me that the braves are in a little bit of a different situation than some of the other teams here, right?
[SPEAKER_03]: Which is, I do think the braves are one of the few teams who could say right now,
[SPEAKER_03]: They're going to the postseason.
[SPEAKER_03]: I know that the team has not been as good recently.
[SPEAKER_03]: They do have some guys coming back off of the IL and all that.
[SPEAKER_03]: But they have enough of a lead that you can say that this is a team that I'll tell you right now.
[SPEAKER_03]: If they don't make the postseason, yeah, there's going to be a lot of hot seats there because this is a team that is positioned to make the postseason.
[SPEAKER_03]: So the moves you make are going to be much more about how do they up your chances of winning in the postseason.
[SPEAKER_03]: Obviously, this rotation has a number of injuries needs help.
[SPEAKER_03]: I think the list of pictures, the list of starting pictures, who are clearly going to be useful for other rotation starters in the postseason, that the the braids were shopping in that aisle, was pretty small.
[SPEAKER_03]: Now there were some guys moved.
[SPEAKER_03]: I think that
[SPEAKER_03]: they clearly there's reporting that they were trying to get Jacob DeGrom and Jacob DeGrom said nope, I'm not going in you where.
[SPEAKER_03]: After that, you could say Casey Mise, you could say Soriano, maybe you threw a Robbie Ray in there, maybe you threw a foster grip in there, that less of the profile of what the guy you want in the postseason rotation, you know, softer, softer, softer VLOG.
[SPEAKER_03]: They didn't get any of those guys.
[SPEAKER_03]: And I think that that's something that is a very fair criticism.
[SPEAKER_03]: They clearly didn't want to pay the price to say like my Scott, which would be a recently price of prospects.
[SPEAKER_03]: But I do think that part of the problem here for the braves is a lot of the guys who moved elsewhere were guys who will help teams make the postseason.
[SPEAKER_03]: But they're not that number two, number three starter that they're looking for to kind of go right behind Chris Sale.
[SPEAKER_03]: They probably still should have made a move.
[SPEAKER_03]: But I do think that complicated the picture a little bit for them.
[SPEAKER_00]: We have to talk about the big news of the weekend.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's the Dodgers acquiring Tark's school.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think that that goes down as the move of the year.
[SPEAKER_00]: They send back a package that includes top 100 prospects at your hope.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think that the public had quite a bit of scrutiny for the trade and to the expected when it comes to Dodgers.
[SPEAKER_00]: But JJ, is it as bad as some are making it out to be the Tigers really do so poorly?
[SPEAKER_03]: We studied this at baseball America.
[SPEAKER_03]: We looked at every trade of an ace being traded at the deadline and a rental and this fit right from the parameters You usually see one Top 25 to 75 prospect.
[SPEAKER_03]: They got that Zee here hope was you know kind of a third you know It's kind of a guy who fits in that top 50 range
[SPEAKER_03]: Then you get one guy's kind of on the fringe of the hundred that was River Ryan.
[SPEAKER_03]: I think River Ryan very much for that.
[SPEAKER_03]: Then you get one of their guys or two other guys kind of were much more back at the end of the system and that was pretty Smith.
[SPEAKER_03]: We think that Brady Smith is very interesting, but at the same time, I would say, well, pretty Smith.
[SPEAKER_03]: That's the guy who, you know, it's coming off and, you know, this year is the first your back, prep, prep pick is first your back really from an arm injury and, you know, there's a lot of risk there, obviously, but, but I would just say like if you line up the past trades, the CC sub-Atheid trade, the David Price trade in 2015, you could go to the list of those.
[SPEAKER_03]: There aren't that many of those trades, but if you do,
[SPEAKER_03]: These are the general parameters of what you get.
[SPEAKER_03]: The cost of acquiring a rental, even a great picture, as a rental is often less than like we saw.
[SPEAKER_03]: We saw, again, that's still a better package than the Soriano deal, but I would say that the Jose Soriano trade, the blue jays, just illustrates the difference between how much more you get if you are getting a picture with multiple years of team control remain.
[SPEAKER_00]: Jeff, the biggest position player moved at the deadline, Orioles Ketcher, Adley Rutschman.
[SPEAKER_00]: He goes to the Red Sox for four prospects, including Anthony Ionson out of the top 100.
[SPEAKER_00]: Did the Red Sox give up too much?
[SPEAKER_00]: Was it a fair return?
[SPEAKER_00]: What did you think?
[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, you know, I think it all depends on, you know, does Adley Rushman come back healthy?
[SPEAKER_05]: Do we have a full season of baseball next year?
[SPEAKER_05]: I'm hopeful on that regard, but And you know, is there a possibility that an extension could get done with Roshmann?
[SPEAKER_05]: I think a lot of it kind of hinges on that That being said, I thought some of the more extreme reactions to this trade that we saw yesterday There was one quote from a scout or a rival from an office person that thought it was an absurd overpay
[SPEAKER_05]: I thought that was a little bit over the top.
[SPEAKER_05]: I think when you look at the fact that it's two pitching prospects, it's a very interesting talented, you know, A-Ball outfielder who doesn't project as like in a leap outfielder, there's some hit tool questions there.
[SPEAKER_05]: There's a bunch of power, there's a lot, I mean, I like India as a car as a prospect.
[SPEAKER_05]: But I think you also look at Anthony Iinson, this video that we're, you know, you guys have up on the screen right now.
[SPEAKER_05]: He was sitting what 96 to 99 miles an hour that day for me and he and we were down in Florida, he has not approached that velocity since it has continued to go down now.
[SPEAKER_05]: He's continued to be one of the most effective pitchers in the minor leagues this year.
[SPEAKER_05]: But you know, I'm not going to sit here and say that
[SPEAKER_05]: You know, the context of Lance's quote wasn't that either of these guys were injured, but perhaps were higher in ions and then maybe a lot of different organizations are out there.
[SPEAKER_05]: There's obviously a wide range of opinion.
[SPEAKER_05]: I think the other part of it is kicing whether spoon is a guy that was divisive last year coming into the draft with certain analysts and front office people that didn't think that there was a lot of potential improvements that you could make here.
[SPEAKER_05]: I think some of that narrative has kind of been proven true.
[SPEAKER_05]: We tried to add that sweeper.
[SPEAKER_05]: There were some question marks about how that impacted the rest of the arsenal.
[SPEAKER_05]: And that's the kind of thing that
[SPEAKER_05]: Maybe scares off some teams in terms of what can we really do with this guy and, you know, it's a player to be named later in the player.
[SPEAKER_05]: They're replacing.
[SPEAKER_05]: So you have to take a big swing.
[SPEAKER_05]: I think this was a team that's in the mix.
[SPEAKER_05]: They have people here in Massachusetts that believe in this team a lot more than they have for eight years, probably where they've been almost irrelevant at points in time.
[SPEAKER_05]: I think they're back into relevancy and they had to swing a big move.
[SPEAKER_05]: We heard the type of names that they were trying to call on.
[SPEAKER_05]: This is the biggest deal they could make, and I think in the long run, they did all upgrade a position.
[SPEAKER_05]: So I don't know if it's as bad as maybe some people are making it out to be, but, you know, time will sort of tell on whether that's true or not.
[SPEAKER_00]: Time will certainly tell.
[SPEAKER_00]: Time will also tell what we think about the Yankees.
[SPEAKER_00]: We're gonna talk about them right after this quick break.
[SPEAKER_04]: This is that time of year, AJ.
[SPEAKER_04]: It is baseball's time to shine.
[SPEAKER_04]: And it is SeekGeek's time to shine with MLB tickets and finding the best pricing, seating, and games that are even sold out available on SeekGeek.
[SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely.
[SPEAKER_01]: If you want to go to the biggest matchups coming up, we have Yankees Cubs coming up.
[SPEAKER_01]: There's Yankees Red Sox, it means stuff again.
[SPEAKER_01]: There's some big moments that are coming up here.
[SPEAKER_01]: And as the pen and chase is really heat up, go to see.
[SPEAKER_01]: You can find those green tickets with the best deals and get yourself out to an MLB game.
[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_04]: And they're straightforward with you.
[SPEAKER_04]: They will actually put a red dot next to a ticket that they don't feel is your best look green dot means very good code for you.
[SPEAKER_04]: It's territory 10 10% off your next set of MLB tickets at C key that's 10% off MLB tickets when you use the promo code territory 1 0 make sure you click the link in the description to download the app and have to code automatically add it to your account so you can use it later.
[SPEAKER_00]: New York Yankees have made the call to the farm.
[SPEAKER_00]: They're calling out a top prospect Jacob Lumbard.
[SPEAKER_00]: He is going to make his major league debut.
[SPEAKER_00]: JJ, that's pretty big deal.
[SPEAKER_00]: What do you think about that?
[SPEAKER_00]: And come and tie us into the deadline.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_03]: I know there's a lot of feedback.
[SPEAKER_03]: A lot of people asking, you know, so the Yankees didn't make a move to fix their infield.
[SPEAKER_03]: Well, they did.
[SPEAKER_03]: They just waited.
[SPEAKER_03]: It wasn't a trade.
[SPEAKER_03]: They brought up George Lumbard Jr. And I would say with Lumbard that the key thing here
[SPEAKER_03]: Whatever offensive impact you get from him this year, I feel like it's kind of bonus.
[SPEAKER_03]: The key thing that George Lombard is being brought up to do is to give them very solid defense, get on base, and not basically kill them at the plate.
[SPEAKER_03]: And that probably right there is the bar that he just needs to exceed.
[SPEAKER_03]: He made do better than that.
[SPEAKER_03]: Like this is a guy who has always been impressive for, we've heard about his defense.
[SPEAKER_03]: We've also heard that he really is a guy who has a solid field for the game, does a lot of things well.
[SPEAKER_03]: I think that this is the move that kind of does solidify the mid-short stuff.
[SPEAKER_03]: He is a rookie, there's obviously a lot of variants there.
[SPEAKER_03]: The other part of this though is
[SPEAKER_03]: It's that we've kind of saw the example in the other way, though, if we saw Anthony Volpe go down, we saw Jason Namingas go down with the acquisition of Elliott Ramos.
[SPEAKER_03]: This is also a Yankees team that kind of has held onto some of these younger guys who haven't really established themselves or in Volpe's case of taking a step back.
[SPEAKER_03]: We didn't see none of those moves at the deadline.
[SPEAKER_03]: That may be does surprise me a little bit, because their value is probably diminishing by the day.
[SPEAKER_03]: I obviously can move Anthony Volpe in the off season, or adjacent Namingas, or Spencer Jones,
[SPEAKER_03]: Especially in the case of right now, Dominguez and Volpi, they don't seem like that those guys are key parts of their plans and The longer you hold on to the less value they have You got draft on the brand.
[SPEAKER_00]: I said Jacob Lumbard, so you don't hire the amateur guy to host a George Lumbard Going to the Yankees, but Ian why don't you tell us about what the Yankees are actually getting in Mr. George Lumbard?
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean they're getting as JJ kind of alluded to they're getting a very good glove and I think that's the biggest upgrade, you know, you look at what Anthony vulby has been doing at short stop and there's been some pretty high profile defense of miscuse and I think that's something they're going to eliminate with long barred, you know, he's very sure handed it's definitely short stop profile.
[SPEAKER_02]: So adding him defensively is already an upgrade and I think offensively, you know, Lombard said this track record is gone through the miners where he gets to have to really, really good start and then hit some struggles.
[SPEAKER_02]: And so we'll see how that kind of translate to, again, so obviously the best pitching possible, but he's been on fire as of late in July.
[SPEAKER_02]: He hit three 75, 17 with a 630 slug.
[SPEAKER_02]: He only had 60 plate appearances.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's coming back from an injury, but you know, he took his lumps at the beginning when he got
[SPEAKER_02]: It's been hitting kind of for the last, you know, even prior to the injury, too.
[SPEAKER_02]: So I think that he's someone who, given they were getting very little offensively, I think that he'll give them a, you know, a slight upgrade there.
[SPEAKER_02]: But defense is really where the big upgrade will come in.
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, you look at the context of the trade deadline.
[SPEAKER_02]: They're just, they're more middle and fielders moved.
[SPEAKER_02]: They were not catchers moved.
[SPEAKER_02]: Like the Yankees, obviously, they were looking up, upgrade the infield.
[SPEAKER_02]: But positions they wanted to, none of those guys ended up getting traded.
[SPEAKER_02]: So I think going internal for long bar, it was the best possible outcome for them.
[SPEAKER_00]: All right, we see your questions.
[SPEAKER_00]: They are piling up in the comments.
[SPEAKER_00]: And this is the last reminder.
[SPEAKER_00]: Do it.
[SPEAKER_00]: Put your comments in there.
[SPEAKER_00]: We want to answer your questions.
[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly what we're going to do after this quick break.
[SPEAKER_04]: It's the summertime AJ and this is a time to feel free wild, make some phone calls that year overdue for and also get some deals that you should be getting that you deserve.
[SPEAKER_01]: It couldn't be an easier though.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's just one price for unlimited talk text and data.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's really simple.
[SPEAKER_01]: It is one price for all the data and all the phone calls you could want per month.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's simple.
[SPEAKER_04]: That's right, all of Mint Mobile's plans are 15 bucks a month with the summer sale, even unlimited to get your new wireless plan for just 15 bucks a month.
[SPEAKER_04]: Go to MintMobile.com slash territory.
[SPEAKER_04]: That's MintMobile.com slash territory to cut your wireless bill to $15 a month.
[SPEAKER_04]: That's it.
[SPEAKER_04]: There's no catch.
[SPEAKER_04]: Up from payment of $45 for three months, $90 for six months, or $180 for 12 months, plan required 15 bucks per month equivalent, taxes in fees extra, initial plan term only, greater than 50 gigabytes may slow when network is busy, includes up to 20 gigabytes hotspot, capable device required availability, speed and coverage varies, see mintmobile.com.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's my favorite part of the show.
[SPEAKER_00]: We are answering your questions.
[SPEAKER_00]: If you want to ask, drop them in the comments.
[SPEAKER_00]: We will put them up on the screen.
[SPEAKER_00]: Clint, let's get it rolling.
[SPEAKER_00]: First question, I went to, there you go, I'm in full and camp.
[SPEAKER_00]: How do I have hope as a reds fan today?
[SPEAKER_00]: We have a terrific core group of players, but then an absolute mess around them in a front office that no one trusts or believes in JJ Deskrio.
[SPEAKER_03]: At first, I, when I look at, I think that what this kind of says is, the reds didn't want to rebuild.
[SPEAKER_03]: You could argue that they could still try to Steven centrate a singer, but it does feel like that they really do want to add to what they have already with some other pieces around it.
[SPEAKER_03]: You could say that that's not the right plan.
[SPEAKER_03]: They've tried that for a couple of years.
[SPEAKER_03]: I get your, your, your point on that, but as you kind of said yourself,
[SPEAKER_03]: that Andrew Abbott, this is a team that does have a lot of nice pieces.
[SPEAKER_03]: They're real problem.
[SPEAKER_03]: Something that they have not been able to solve is to figure out kind of those shoulder pieces around them.
[SPEAKER_03]: They've failed to do that.
[SPEAKER_03]: And if they can fix the outfield, if they can fix a couple of other positions, they've had the rotation, they have the stars.
[SPEAKER_03]: They need to find the other pieces to go with it.
[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, you know, we are gonna go right back to you
[SPEAKER_00]: ten staff.
[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, this one will get me on my little high horse here a little bit and I do want just thoughts is just make us a little bit more measured response than me.
[SPEAKER_03]: So, the ten staff if you don't know is there's no such thing as a pitching prospect.
[SPEAKER_03]: And I will point out the thing I would like to point out today is, okay, so who are the pitchers traded at the deadline?
[SPEAKER_03]: The big league pitchers traded the deadline who garnered large returns.
[SPEAKER_03]: We're talking about Terkscuba, right?
[SPEAKER_03]: Well, Terkscuba was a pitching prospect.
[SPEAKER_03]: He was in a top 25 I believe in the top pondered.
[SPEAKER_03]: And then you say, OK, well, who else?
[SPEAKER_03]: Well, Robby Ray, Robby Ray was a top 10 prospect in the system.
[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know if he was ever in the top 100.
[SPEAKER_03]: But Kevin Gospen, Kevin Gospen was an elite top at the top 100 prospect when he was traded.
[SPEAKER_03]: What other starters were traded?
[SPEAKER_03]: Like, pretty much if you look at the starters, Casey Mies.
[SPEAKER_03]: Casey Mies wasn't as highly rated by a sister at school, but he was, came up, same time.
[SPEAKER_03]: And he was also a premium top 100 pitching prospect.
[SPEAKER_03]: were guys who were such a thing as a pitching prospect at one time.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, the risk with the pitching prospect is higher than the risk was position player.
[SPEAKER_03]: But the guys who end up being the best pitchers in the game, generally, they're top 100 pitching prospects.
[SPEAKER_03]: Look right now, Jacob Mizorowski, look at Paul Schenz.
[SPEAKER_03]: I'll give you a crisp for Sanchez.
[SPEAKER_03]: He was a pitch prospect, but not an elite one coming up.
[SPEAKER_03]: He's a good development story.
[SPEAKER_03]: But Jeff, is there such a thing as a pitching prospect?
[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, I think, you know, especially if you look at recent years that they're kind of has to be now that doesn't that doesn't necessarily, you know, exclude maybe what the expression generally is trying to point to which is a ton of actual development as a picture as a starter doesn't necessarily happen in the minor leagues it happens in the majors it happens when you're facing
[SPEAKER_05]: the best hitters in the world, the best lineups, lineups that you just, I've said this a million times, but you can't replicate facing a one through nine major league lineup.
[SPEAKER_05]: Even a bad one is probably better than the West line up you've ever faced in your life.
[SPEAKER_05]: So I just think there's a certain level of growth that has to happen at the major league level, that maybe skews the idea of a pitching prospect, but the most valuable picture in the gaming right now is Jacob Miserowski.
[SPEAKER_05]: Certainly Chris Sale, who's had a long career was a pitching prospect, Dylan Seas, who's one of the most valuable starters in the game, was a pitching prospect.
[SPEAKER_05]: Hey, Zeus, Lizardo, Paul schemes.
[SPEAKER_05]: These are all guys that ranked on top at 100 list Chase Burns.
[SPEAKER_05]: More or less was a pitching prospect in college and barely pitched in the miners kind of let schemes and went up to the big leagues and you know, is one of the most valuable pictures probably in any organization right now if trades were made.
[SPEAKER_05]: the return for Chase Burns with his number of years of control and value and his projection.
[SPEAKER_05]: I think would be astronomical.
[SPEAKER_05]: So I think it's wrong to say that there's no such thing as a pitching prospect.
[SPEAKER_05]: But I do think there's maybe some truth within the statement.
[SPEAKER_05]: But it's really more, there's a lot of growth in development that has to happen at the major.
[SPEAKER_00]: I've got time for a couple more here from Don Shawley, Don, thanks for watching.
[SPEAKER_00]: It was also on our live show yesterday, which team gained the most as a seller in these trades from the Deadline Ian?
[SPEAKER_02]: I think the Orioles would have to be the clear answer.
[SPEAKER_02]: They were the only team to add multiple top 100 prospects.
[SPEAKER_02]: And you look at the guys they added in the next year, Andy Ausgar for example, someone I could see making a top 100 list in the future.
[SPEAKER_02]: But if I depict the biggest winner given on what they traded, I think I would go with the giants.
[SPEAKER_02]: I think just the quality and the upside of the arms they added,
[SPEAKER_02]: Fernand as who we talked a little about earlier any even someone like Marsella Meyer I know he's not a prospect anymore, but I think he's a prime change of scenery candidates someone who who need to need it to get away from Boston You know get him out back on the west coast where he's from
[SPEAKER_02]: kind of a different environment, some different, you know, coaching and infrastructure.
[SPEAKER_02]: I think that will be very beneficial to him and he'll get, I think, plenty of runway there when he's back healthy, given they traded Luis Arise, so there's a whole second base, which he can fill.
[SPEAKER_02]: So, I think that the giants, to me, were one of the big winners at the deadline.
[SPEAKER_00]: That is going to do with them for this week's Hot Cheecho.
[SPEAKER_00]: We thank you for watching it, of course.
