<v Speaker 1>Wednesday, August nine, twenty twenty six, you are listening to
<v Speaker 1>the Daily Dose Sports podcast and I am your host,
<v Speaker 1>Clinton Daily, coming to you for the MYI City here
<v Speaker 1>in Denver, Colorado, and we are back for another week
<v Speaker 1>of talking sports with a dose of common sense. Hey,
<v Speaker 1>Happy Wednesday to you. I hope your week is going well.
<v Speaker 1>You are now halfway to another weekend. That's always a
<v Speaker 1>good thing. I hope you, your family, your friends, everyone
<v Speaker 1>in your world is staying strong and healthy right now.
<v Speaker 1>And Hey, the NFL preseason is fully underway. It's interesting
<v Speaker 1>because we have already seen some things taking place.
<v Speaker 2>I mean, the.
<v Speaker 1>Buffalo Bills built a brand new, massive, beautiful new stadium
<v Speaker 1>and then they put like two nineteen inch.
<v Speaker 2>Televisions up for scoreboards. I don't understand it.
<v Speaker 1>Did Michael Scott actually hang that big screen TV up there?
<v Speaker 1>The Cleveland Browns quarterback competition, well, we'll be honest, it
<v Speaker 1>looks a little bit like a dumpster fire. A few
<v Speaker 1>young quarterbacks like Ty Simpson with the Los Angeles Rams
<v Speaker 1>and Fernando men Doze with those Las Vegas Raiders. They
<v Speaker 1>actually look pretty good in their opener. Now we know
<v Speaker 1>that doesn't mean a lot. But hey, it was positive
<v Speaker 1>for sure. And then the New York Giants are still
<v Speaker 1>trying to get their quarterback Jackson Dart to avoid big
<v Speaker 1>collisions and there's a reason.
<v Speaker 2>Hey, it's no secret there is pressure on Jackson Dart
<v Speaker 2>to slide a little bit more.
<v Speaker 1>When he's using his legs on the field because he
<v Speaker 1>took some big hits during his rookie year last year.
<v Speaker 1>But there are at times things that are out of
<v Speaker 1>darts control, like this past Saturday when he failed to
<v Speaker 1>read a blitz and a Minnesota Vikings defender came to
<v Speaker 1>that Giants offensive line untouched and absolutely laid Jackson Dart
<v Speaker 1>out in the first quarter. Dart was sent to the
<v Speaker 1>blue medical tent to get checked out before returning to
<v Speaker 1>the game. And hey, it's kind of a familiar spot
<v Speaker 1>for Dark. Remember he was in that blue medical tent
<v Speaker 1>a whole lot during his rookie season. However, after the game,
<v Speaker 1>Dart had some interesting comments. He told reporters he was
<v Speaker 1>puzzled by this particular visit to the medical tent. Here's
<v Speaker 1>what young mister Dart had to say as far as
<v Speaker 1>the blue tent, I really respect the rules and the
<v Speaker 1>thought behind the NFL has of keeping players healthy and
<v Speaker 1>reviewing things, But at the same time, I'm still puzzled
<v Speaker 1>by it, just feeling like every time I get hit,
<v Speaker 1>I find my way in there, he said, which at
<v Speaker 1>times I still try to wrap my head around. But
<v Speaker 1>that's all I'm going to say about the situation. Okay,
<v Speaker 1>let me see if I have this straight. I know
<v Speaker 1>that sometimes I can be easily confused, but the guy
<v Speaker 1>that keeps getting hit in his head is confused about
<v Speaker 1>why people are concerned that he keeps getting hit in
<v Speaker 1>his head. Jackson Dark thinks having his head examined is
<v Speaker 1>a wacky idea.
<v Speaker 2>Hey, I like Jackson Dart. I think he's actually a
<v Speaker 2>big time talent. And also, if I'm a New York
<v Speaker 2>Giants fan, I'm starting.
<v Speaker 1>To get really really worried because not only does my
<v Speaker 1>quarterback seem to be unable to read a quarterback blitz,
<v Speaker 1>but he also seems to be unaware that his melon
<v Speaker 1>getting dense and it could cause long term issues that.
<v Speaker 2>Would be a big, big concern, at least to me.
<v Speaker 1>Hate Today, on the dose, we are continuing to get
<v Speaker 1>ready for the coming football season that is now coming
<v Speaker 1>really really fast, and we're going to be taking a
<v Speaker 1>look at some of the best matchups that we cannot
<v Speaker 1>wait for.
<v Speaker 2>I'm telling you we have some games coming that are
<v Speaker 2>going to be huge.
<v Speaker 1>Plus, our dellly Doos Top five is going to be
<v Speaker 1>taking a look at some of the most hated people
<v Speaker 1>in college football history a little bit later, make sure
<v Speaker 1>you stick.
<v Speaker 2>Around for that.
<v Speaker 1>But first, we do have a little sports news to discuss,
<v Speaker 1>and no, it will not be about that WNBA. I
<v Speaker 1>told you I'm done with that league at least for
<v Speaker 1>a little while, and I meant it list until they
<v Speaker 1>draft a couple of people that I want to see
<v Speaker 1>join the league. But I actually want to talk a
<v Speaker 1>little NBA news today because just over a year after
<v Speaker 1>buying the Los Angeles Lakers, one of the iconic franchises
<v Speaker 1>in all sports, for ten billion dollars, Mark Walter turned
<v Speaker 1>around last week and agreed to sell the team again.
<v Speaker 1>He sold it to Bob Iger, the former Disney CEO,
<v Speaker 1>and Joshua Kushner at a twelve point five billion dollar
<v Speaker 1>price tag.
<v Speaker 2>Hey, he bought it. I made two and a half
<v Speaker 2>billion off of it.
<v Speaker 1>According to sources, all came together quickly, with the idea
<v Speaker 1>of it being broached just a couple of weeks ago
<v Speaker 1>that dealers for Walkers shares in the Lakers and does
<v Speaker 1>not affect his ownership of the Dodgers or oops.
<v Speaker 2>I talked from Wnba now.
<v Speaker 1>Iger of course, served as Disney's top executive twice. He
<v Speaker 1>stepped away in March. Kushner is the brother of President
<v Speaker 1>Donald Trump's son in law, Jared, and he also has
<v Speaker 1>a minority share in the Miami Heat, which he will
<v Speaker 1>have to sell. Here's a couple of things I want
<v Speaker 1>you to keep in mind concerning Bob Iger now owning
<v Speaker 1>the Los Angeles Lakers, because remember, Bob Iiger was responsible
<v Speaker 1>for some of Disney's biggest movie successes in history. I mean,
<v Speaker 1>Bob Iger oversaw hits like Frozen, Toy Story three, and
<v Speaker 1>Zootopia Think Again. He was also responsible for duds like
<v Speaker 1>The Marvels those later Indiana Jones disasters. Oh and also
<v Speaker 1>euro Disney. Hey, this isn't a home run, you know.
<v Speaker 1>I've been saying for years that it is so weird
<v Speaker 1>to me that for being one of the most iconic
<v Speaker 1>brands in the world, the Los Angeles Lakers, they always
<v Speaker 1>kind of run like a mom and pop shop, like
<v Speaker 1>they're trying to get bargains, and they're trying to hire
<v Speaker 1>guys in the cheap and they're cutting corners wherever they can.
<v Speaker 1>Maybe that changes now, I don't know. I mean, Bob
<v Speaker 1>Iger does have money, no question about that. Does he
<v Speaker 1>know how to spend it?
<v Speaker 2>Well, that does have to be seen.
<v Speaker 1>I mean you might think he does, but I'd say
<v Speaker 1>Disneyland Paris might say otherwise. And remember Disney does have
<v Speaker 1>some experience in owning a pro sports team.
<v Speaker 2>Please what kind of Mickey Mouse organization would mean? Be
<v Speaker 2>a team the Ducks.
<v Speaker 1>Hey, the college football and NFL seasons are nearly here.
<v Speaker 1>We are literally nine days away from real, live, actual
<v Speaker 1>college football games starting, and today I thought we would
<v Speaker 1>briefly roll through the schedule and give you some of
<v Speaker 1>the best games that we are looking forward to. And no,
<v Speaker 1>I'm not going to go too deep into the schedule,
<v Speaker 1>because here's the problem. Sometimes teams and seasons they just
<v Speaker 1>don't turn out like we thought they would. But here
<v Speaker 1>are some of the best college football games that we
<v Speaker 1>can't wait to see, at least the early ones. I
<v Speaker 1>want to look at the earlier ones because down the
<v Speaker 1>stretch we never know. But here's some of the early
<v Speaker 1>games we can't wait for. Do you realize on Saturday,
<v Speaker 1>August twenty ninth, we have the college football opener from Dublin, Ireland.
<v Speaker 1>Is it a great game? No, not really, but it
<v Speaker 1>might prove to be very interesting. Look, I realize that
<v Speaker 1>the TCU horn Froggs really haven't done that much since
<v Speaker 1>twenty twenty two and Max Duggan led them to the
<v Speaker 1>College Football Playoff and they beat Michigan before they were
<v Speaker 1>curb stopped by Georgia. Well, this season, the horn Frogs
<v Speaker 1>are coming off of a nine and four season. They
<v Speaker 1>did win alimable and they're going to be a solid team. Well,
<v Speaker 1>in that opener in Dublin, they will be facing Bill
<v Speaker 1>Belichick and his North Carolina tar Heels. Now do we
<v Speaker 1>expect much from the tar Heels? Not really? But what
<v Speaker 1>I'm wondering about if TCU just blasts UNC, could Belichick
<v Speaker 1>get fired on the Emerald Isle.
<v Speaker 2>Well, I wouldn't put anything past anybody.
<v Speaker 1>I don't know, but as possible, we fast forward to
<v Speaker 1>the very next Saturday and we get a game that
<v Speaker 1>just might reveal to us a little bit about both
<v Speaker 1>of these teams. Hey, for the past what five or
<v Speaker 1>six seasons the Clemson Tigers, they've been just a little
<v Speaker 1>above average. I mean, you can look at their record
<v Speaker 1>and you can say, well, they went nine to four whatever.
<v Speaker 1>But they play in the ACC, so they get like
<v Speaker 1>six wins if the bus drivers just gets them to
<v Speaker 1>the stadium on time. Now, I'm not gonna say head
<v Speaker 1>coach Dablos Winney is on the hot seat quite yet,
<v Speaker 1>but that seed is getting a little warm. Hey, Dabbo
<v Speaker 1>needs a solid season this year and his defense should
<v Speaker 1>be very good. But they do need to find a
<v Speaker 1>new quarterback. Kid Klubnik has moved on to the NFL.
<v Speaker 2>Well.
<v Speaker 1>On Saturday, September fifth, the Clemson Tigers will head to
<v Speaker 1>Baton Rouge to take on Lane Kiffen and the LSU Tigers. Hey,
<v Speaker 1>Kiffen has massive expectations this year. He is in Baton
<v Speaker 1>Rouge to win a title. He can't afford to slip
<v Speaker 1>up against Clemson. The battle for who has the real
<v Speaker 1>Death Valley is on September fifth. Remember also that September
<v Speaker 1>fifth weekend is Labor Day weekend here in the US,
<v Speaker 1>and so we will also get a Monday night game
<v Speaker 1>this weekend. Now, I'll be honest again, this game isn't great,
<v Speaker 1>but again it is interesting. On Monday night, September seventh,
<v Speaker 1>the SMU Mustangs will head to Tallahassee to face the
<v Speaker 1>Florida State Seminoles in a big ACC matchup for the
<v Speaker 1>first game of the season. SMU head coach rhet Lastly.
<v Speaker 1>He took over for Sunny Dykes back in twenty twenty two,
<v Speaker 1>and he he has had the Mustangs in four bowl
<v Speaker 1>games in a row. Now, he does have more turnover
<v Speaker 1>this year, but if his quarterback Kevin Jennings is healthy,
<v Speaker 1>the Mustangs can contend for the ACC title. Meanwhile, Florida
<v Speaker 1>State is in dire circumstances. Head coach Mike Norvel he
<v Speaker 1>can't sit down on his seat right now. It's too
<v Speaker 1>red hot. Since going thirteen to o and then losing
<v Speaker 1>quarterback Jordan Travis before their bowl game in twenty twenty three,
<v Speaker 1>the Seminoles have gone seven and seventeen.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, who's gonna win this one? And more importantly, who's
<v Speaker 2>gonna lose this one?
<v Speaker 1>We moved to the Saturday of September twelfth, and we
<v Speaker 1>get a few massive games in the college football landscape.
<v Speaker 1>First off, that morning, the Oklahoma Sooners will go to
<v Speaker 1>ann Arbor to face the Michigan Wolverines.
<v Speaker 2>Remember last year.
<v Speaker 1>Oklahoma was rolling until quarterback John Mattier suffered that hand injury.
<v Speaker 1>Hey head coach Brett Venables, he went back calling his
<v Speaker 1>own defenses last year and it seemed to help. The
<v Speaker 1>Sooners were pretty good.
<v Speaker 2>Now.
<v Speaker 1>They do have a nasty schedule this year, but Oklahoma's
<v Speaker 1>gonna be tough. They go on September twelfth to Michigan
<v Speaker 1>to face a Wolverines team that is being completely rebuilt
<v Speaker 1>by new but veteran head coach Kyle Whittingham, who goes
<v Speaker 1>to Michigan after twenty plus years at Utah and his
<v Speaker 1>coupveroard isn't completely bare. Whittingham inherence talented sophomore quarterback Bryce Underwood,
<v Speaker 1>and Whittingham will put Underwood in way better situations to
<v Speaker 1>be successful. This is a really good SEC versus Big
<v Speaker 1>Ten matchup. But we're not done because also on September twelfth,
<v Speaker 1>we get another monster SEC versus Big ten matchup that
<v Speaker 1>night when the Ohio State Buckeyes go to Austin to
<v Speaker 1>take on the Texas Longhorns. Ohio State will start the
<v Speaker 1>season as the number one team in the country. They
<v Speaker 1>have quarterback Julian saying, they have wide receiver Jeremiah Smith, who,
<v Speaker 1>honestly he might be the best player in the country.
<v Speaker 1>And Texas isn't going to be a pushover head coach
<v Speaker 1>Steve Sarkisan. He seemed to start to figure out how
<v Speaker 1>to make young quarterback Arch Manning a little more successful
<v Speaker 1>down the stretch last year. The defense from Texas is
<v Speaker 1>going to be very good. That front is talented. Manning
<v Speaker 1>should have more help on offense. Hey, we get two
<v Speaker 1>great matchups on September twelfth. On September nineteenth, we get
<v Speaker 1>a game that is going to give bitter rivalry a
<v Speaker 1>whole new meaning because last season, Lane Kiffin let the
<v Speaker 1>Old Miss Rebels to an eleven to one record and
<v Speaker 1>a college football playoff berth for the first time in
<v Speaker 1>school history.
<v Speaker 2>However, prior to those playoffs.
<v Speaker 1>The Louisiana State job opened up, and Kiffen bailed on
<v Speaker 1>his playoff team to go to LSU. On September nineteenth,
<v Speaker 1>Kiffen returns to the scene of the crime, and I
<v Speaker 1>promise you that the Rebels are going to do their
<v Speaker 1>best to make Lane Kiffin's return as miserable as possible.
<v Speaker 1>Ole Miss quarterback treated at Chambles is very dangerous. That
<v Speaker 1>ole Miss defense could be very solid. LSU brings new
<v Speaker 1>quarterback Arizona State transfer Sam levit In and a tight
<v Speaker 1>end in trade As Green that has NFL scouts very excited.
<v Speaker 2>I can't wait to watch this game. This is going
<v Speaker 2>to be bitter now.
<v Speaker 1>It seems like every year, especially in college football, we
<v Speaker 1>have a weekend that is just action packed from morning
<v Speaker 1>until like after midnight. And it also seems like some idiot,
<v Speaker 1>unaware couple will choose to schedule their wedding for that day. Well,
<v Speaker 1>if you get a save the date for September twenty
<v Speaker 1>six throw that saved the date in the trash and
<v Speaker 1>pretend you never saw it, because check out this insane
<v Speaker 1>lineup again September twenty sixth.
<v Speaker 2>That morning, we get what should be a.
<v Speaker 1>Very talented South Carolina squad with quarterback Leonora's Sellers, going
<v Speaker 1>to Tuscaloosa to face the Alabama Crimson Tide that has
<v Speaker 1>a head coach in Calon de boor that needs to
<v Speaker 1>win or else that's going to be a big one.
<v Speaker 1>Then we get the Oklahoma Sinners going to Athens to
<v Speaker 1>face what might be once again the best team in
<v Speaker 1>the SEC in the Georgia Bulldogs.
<v Speaker 2>Not done.
<v Speaker 1>The Texas A and m Aggie's are loaded again. They
<v Speaker 1>will go to Baton Rouge to face LSU and the
<v Speaker 1>Fighting lin Kiffins. Brett Belima has the Illinois Fighting a
<v Speaker 1>Lion I playing tough, hard nosed football, and on that
<v Speaker 1>same weekend they will get their first big test when
<v Speaker 1>they go to Columbus to face Ohio State.
<v Speaker 2>We're not done.
<v Speaker 1>The Oregon Ducks are ranked number two again the Coach's
<v Speaker 1>poll and they will go to USC to face the
<v Speaker 1>number fourteen Trojans, where their head coach Lincoln Riley also
<v Speaker 1>needs to win some big games.
<v Speaker 2>Still not done. Finally we get Arch Manning and.
<v Speaker 1>The Texas Longhorns going to Knoxville to face a Tennessee
<v Speaker 1>volunteer team that is going to be looking to get
<v Speaker 1>back on track after a bit of a step backward
<v Speaker 1>last year. I'm telling you clear your calendar for September
<v Speaker 1>twenty sixth, and do not plan on leaving that couch now.
<v Speaker 1>Like I said, I don't want to go too far
<v Speaker 1>into the college football schedule because if a team slips early,
<v Speaker 1>then they kind of fall apart late and they may
<v Speaker 1>not look like anywhere near what we thought they would
<v Speaker 1>when the season started. But there are some more games
<v Speaker 1>that we should keep in mind. Ohio State will go
<v Speaker 1>to Indiana to face the defending champion Hoosiers on October seventeenth,
<v Speaker 1>and on November seventh, we have a couple of marquee
<v Speaker 1>matchups when the Miami Hurricanes go to South Bend to
<v Speaker 1>face Notre Dame in what could be kind of a
<v Speaker 1>pre college football playoff game. And then we also get
<v Speaker 1>Oregon going to Ohio State that same day. Hey, we
<v Speaker 1>have so many great matchups coming. I know college football
<v Speaker 1>has its flaws, and I know they have a lack
<v Speaker 1>of leadership and no one abides by any rules at all,
<v Speaker 1>and it's all annoying, but wow, I cannot wait for
<v Speaker 1>college football.
<v Speaker 2>But hey, it isn't just in college football.
<v Speaker 1>The National Football League has some games too that are
<v Speaker 1>going to be must see TV, just like in the
<v Speaker 1>college game. Like I said, I don't want to go
<v Speaker 1>too late because sometimes the team will slip up and
<v Speaker 1>get injured or whatever and it'll kind of fall apart.
<v Speaker 2>But check out a few of the interesting early games
<v Speaker 2>we have to look forward to.
<v Speaker 1>And of course We start out with the opener this year,
<v Speaker 1>and remember the opener this year is not on Thursday,
<v Speaker 1>It's on Wednesday night, September ninth. We have a Super
<v Speaker 1>Bowl sixty rematch as the New England Patriots go to
<v Speaker 1>Seattle to face the Seahawks. Have the Patriots upgraded that
<v Speaker 1>offensive line that was such a sieve in the Super Bowl.
<v Speaker 1>Can't Sam Darnold get back to the forum he played
<v Speaker 1>out last year and will losses for the Seahawks, you know,
<v Speaker 1>like Super Bowl MVP running back Kenneth Walker impact the Seahawks.
<v Speaker 2>This is a fun start to the season.
<v Speaker 1>We do also get a game on Thursday night, September tenth,
<v Speaker 1>and we get another good one as the San Francisco
<v Speaker 1>forty nine Ers and Los Angeles Rams will square off
<v Speaker 1>in a big NFC West matchup that will be being
<v Speaker 1>played in Melbourne, Australia. Now, the Niners already have a
<v Speaker 1>few questions going into the season with injuries not just
<v Speaker 1>the players but also to their coach, but they're not
<v Speaker 1>gonna go away, and the Rams are the Vegas odds
<v Speaker 1>favorite to win the Super Bowl this season, so that
<v Speaker 1>Thursday night game is gonna be fun too. In week three,
<v Speaker 1>we get two more fun games as the Los Angeles
<v Speaker 1>Chargers will be hoping to stay healthy for a change
<v Speaker 1>when they go to Buffalo. And then we get a
<v Speaker 1>Sunday night game that some people are claiming could be
<v Speaker 1>a Super Bowl preview when the Los Angeles Rams come
<v Speaker 1>to Denver to face my Broncos. Now, I'm gonna hold
<v Speaker 1>off on saying the Broncos are a legit Super Bowl
<v Speaker 1>contender because I need to see bow Nicks be one
<v Speaker 1>hundred percent and they have such a tough schedule to start.
<v Speaker 1>But Chargers versus Buffalo in three and then Rams versus Broncos,
<v Speaker 1>Oh yeah, those are gonna be fun.
<v Speaker 2>Okay.
<v Speaker 1>Like I said, I'm not going to go too deep
<v Speaker 1>into the late NFL schedule, but I want to go
<v Speaker 1>briefly over the holiday games. And wow, do we have
<v Speaker 1>a full slate of holiday NFL games this year. The
<v Speaker 1>NFL is just taking over. They're just dominating every other
<v Speaker 1>sports league in this country. Not content to just own
<v Speaker 1>Thanksgiving Day. This year, we also get an NFL game
<v Speaker 1>the night before Thanksgiving, on a Wednesday night when you're
<v Speaker 1>thawing out that turkey and drinking wine in anticipation of
<v Speaker 1>hanging out with your family. We get the Green Bay
<v Speaker 1>Packers going to LA to play the Rams. Hey, after
<v Speaker 1>losing to the Bears and Wildcard round, you would think
<v Speaker 1>the Packers need a pretty big season. Then on Thanksgiving Day,
<v Speaker 1>we have, at least right now in August, what looks
<v Speaker 1>like it could be the best Thanksgiving Day lineup that
<v Speaker 1>we've had in years. And I realize those things can change,
<v Speaker 1>but it sure looks good right now. The early morning
<v Speaker 1>game as the Chicago Bears going to Detroit to face
<v Speaker 1>the Lions in a big NFC North matchup. The two
<v Speaker 1>thirty game features the Philadelphia Eagles going to Dallas to
<v Speaker 1>play the Cowboys, and I actually think the Cowboys have
<v Speaker 1>a chance to be a bit of a surprise this year.
<v Speaker 1>They need that defense to get up the field every
<v Speaker 1>once in a while. And then the primetime game Thanksgiving
<v Speaker 1>Night will have Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs
<v Speaker 1>going to Buffalo to play those Bills. Hey, I know
<v Speaker 1>at least one or two of those teams could fade,
<v Speaker 1>but that does look like a strong lineup this year. Okay,
<v Speaker 1>so we jumped to Christmas, and with Christmas Day falling
<v Speaker 1>on Friday, we also get a Christmas Eve game with
<v Speaker 1>the Houston Texans, the team that I think can absolutely
<v Speaker 1>contend for the AFC with that nasty defense. They go
<v Speaker 1>to Philly to face the Philadelphia Eagles, who you know,
<v Speaker 1>want to get back to the super Bowl. That's a
<v Speaker 1>pretty good Christmas Eve game. And then on Christmas Day,
<v Speaker 1>the NFL said, Hey, NBA, you better move your seat
<v Speaker 1>into the summer or something, because we're just going to
<v Speaker 1>completely destroy you on Christmas Day. First we get an
<v Speaker 1>NFC North matchup at eleven am when the Packers play
<v Speaker 1>the Bears in a rematch of their playoff game. Then
<v Speaker 1>at two thirty we get another playoff rematch when the
<v Speaker 1>Buffalo Bills come to Denver where they lost to the
<v Speaker 1>Broncos last year in that Divisional round shootout thriller.
<v Speaker 2>And we're still not done.
<v Speaker 1>Because on Christmas Night at six fifteen, we get one
<v Speaker 1>more playoff rematch as the La Rams go to play
<v Speaker 1>the Seattle Seahawks in an NFC Championship rematch.
<v Speaker 2>Hey, NBA, move your schedule.
<v Speaker 1>To after March Madness or something, because the nation is
<v Speaker 1>going to be absolutely glued to that NFL lineup on
<v Speaker 1>Christmas Day now, as we do so many weeks here
<v Speaker 1>at the Dally Dos. We need to get over to
<v Speaker 1>our daily dose Top five. You know, we talked earlier
<v Speaker 1>about LSU head football coach Lane Kiffen and how he
<v Speaker 1>will be public enemy number one on September nineteenth in Oxford, Mississippi,
<v Speaker 1>when he takes his LSU Tigers back to where he
<v Speaker 1>once coached Ole Miss. You know, right now, Lame Kiffen
<v Speaker 1>is probably the most hated coach in all of college football,
<v Speaker 1>because it isn't just by Ole Miss. Remember when he
<v Speaker 1>was briefly at Tennessee and he called out Florida and
<v Speaker 1>Georgia and they hate him, and then he bolted for USC,
<v Speaker 1>and then Tennessee hated him, and then he didn't do
<v Speaker 1>so well at USC and USC hated him. Hey, Kiffin
<v Speaker 1>is a guy that fans just loved to hate, But
<v Speaker 1>he isn't the first guy and he probably isn't even
<v Speaker 1>on our top list of all time. Today, our day
<v Speaker 1>with us Top five is counting down the most hated
<v Speaker 1>coaches in college football history. I'm telling you right now
<v Speaker 1>we have some people that fans couldn't stand.
<v Speaker 2>We started for.
<v Speaker 1>Number five and we go to a guy that compiled
<v Speaker 1>some serious talent, and he won a ton of games.
<v Speaker 1>He also may have brought in some sketchy talent. He
<v Speaker 1>also may have been a little sketchy himself, because Urban
<v Speaker 1>Meyer seemed like an outsider when he was hired as
<v Speaker 1>Florida's head coach in two thousand and five coming out
<v Speaker 1>of the University of Utah. It didn't take him long
<v Speaker 1>to become hated by rival schools, though, because Meyer revolutionized
<v Speaker 1>the way they played SEC football with that spread offense.
<v Speaker 1>He won the national championship in both two thousand and
<v Speaker 1>six and two thousand and eight. But then Meyer retired
<v Speaker 1>signed up twice in two years, and he left Florida,
<v Speaker 1>and then he waited a year, and then he came back.
<v Speaker 2>But he went to Ohio State and became Ohio State's
<v Speaker 2>new head coach. But then he dominated in Columbus two.
<v Speaker 1>It sounds common now, but remember when Urban went to
<v Speaker 1>Ohio State, everyone said the Big.
<v Speaker 2>Ten couldn't compete with the SEC.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, but he flipped that. He won the national championship
<v Speaker 1>in twenty fourteen. Then he retired again and annoyed Ohio
<v Speaker 1>State fans. Then he went to the NFL and then
<v Speaker 1>he failed in Jacksonville, and everyone kind of laughed at him.
<v Speaker 1>But urban Meyer was a coach to college football fans
<v Speaker 1>loved to hate. And he comes in at number five.
<v Speaker 1>We were up at number four, and we get to
<v Speaker 1>a bootlegger son from Arkansas because Barry Switzer wasn't afraid
<v Speaker 1>to rub opposing coaches and fans the wrong way while
<v Speaker 1>he was dominating the Big Eight during his career at
<v Speaker 1>Oklahoma from nineteen seventy three to nineteen eighty eight. You know,
<v Speaker 1>Switzer said he always wanted to hang a half a
<v Speaker 1>hundred on opponents, and he was not afraid to run
<v Speaker 1>up the score with that wishbone offense, and he did
<v Speaker 1>it often. Switzer went an incredible one fifty seven, twenty
<v Speaker 1>nine and four in Norman. He won three national championships
<v Speaker 1>seventy four, seventy five, and eighty five, and opposing fans
<v Speaker 1>believed that Switzer often cut corners when it came to
<v Speaker 1>NCAA rules, and it turns out there right. Switzer's program
<v Speaker 1>crumbled under a number of scandals in nineteen eight and
<v Speaker 1>he was forced out, but he would eventually resurface in
<v Speaker 1>Dallas and coach the Dallas Cowboys for four years from
<v Speaker 1>ninety four to ninety seven, and once again Switzer kind
<v Speaker 1>of let the players do whatever they wanted. He went
<v Speaker 1>forty and twenty four in the NFL and he won
<v Speaker 1>a Super Bowl, but once again he kind of seemed
<v Speaker 1>to lose control of his team and fans hated him
<v Speaker 1>in the NFL too. Barry Switzer comes in to date
<v Speaker 1>at number four, We land at number three, and we
<v Speaker 1>get to one of the most successful coaches in college
<v Speaker 1>football history because Woody Hayes guided Ohio State to thirteen
<v Speaker 1>Big Ten titles and three national championships in his incredible career.
<v Speaker 1>Hayes coached for twenty eight seasons. He went two oh five,
<v Speaker 1>sixty one to ten. But he's probably more remembered for
<v Speaker 1>his crazy behavior. He had physical confrontations with sports writers, photographers,
<v Speaker 1>posing coaches, athletic directors, referees. I remember him breaking some
<v Speaker 1>yard markers over his knee one time, even fought opposing players.
<v Speaker 1>In his final game in nineteen seventy eight, the Buckeyes
<v Speaker 1>played Thegator Bowl against Clemson, and late in the fourth quarter,
<v Speaker 1>Clemson was leading Ohio State seventeen to fifteen. Ohio State
<v Speaker 1>quarterback Art Sleister drove the Buckeyes in a field goal range,
<v Speaker 1>but on third and five at the Clemson twenty four
<v Speaker 1>yard line with two minutes left to play, Hayes called
<v Speaker 1>a pass rather than a run because Schleester had been
<v Speaker 1>playing good. But his pass was intercepted by Clemson noseguard
<v Speaker 1>Charlie Bowman, who returned it toward the OSE's sideline, and
<v Speaker 1>when he got there, Hayes punched him in the throat
<v Speaker 1>and triggered a bench clearing brawl.
<v Speaker 2>He wasn't done. After the game.
<v Speaker 1>Hayes would fight with a number of the Ohio state
<v Speaker 1>administration and he would be fired. Hey, Woody Hayes was
<v Speaker 1>a wild guy and fans hated his guts. He comes
<v Speaker 1>into number three.
<v Speaker 2>We reached number two, and you know, I'm noticing.
<v Speaker 1>A trend here because we have another guy that had
<v Speaker 1>a reputation for kind of allowing his play, let's say,
<v Speaker 1>a little bit of leeway. And this guy's team had
<v Speaker 1>some serious leeway because Jimmy Johnson coached at the University
<v Speaker 1>of Miami for five seasons during its decade of dominance
<v Speaker 1>at the U, and he's remembered for kind of fostering
<v Speaker 1>the Hurricanes bad boy culture. Many of Johnson's players were
<v Speaker 1>showboats on and off the field, and he was not
<v Speaker 1>afraid to run up a score. In eighty five, Johnson's
<v Speaker 1>Miami team beat the dog at a Notre Dame fifty
<v Speaker 1>eight to seven and left the Golden Domers complaining that
<v Speaker 1>he ran up a score.
<v Speaker 2>What was Johnson's answer? He said Notre Dame should have
<v Speaker 2>been better.
<v Speaker 1>His team infamously wore combat fatigues to a pregame event
<v Speaker 1>before playing Penn State in me eighty seven Fiesta Bowl.
<v Speaker 1>They ended up losing that game, but Jimmy went fifty
<v Speaker 1>two to nine in South Florida. He won a national
<v Speaker 1>title in eighty seven. They went undefeated, and fans hated
<v Speaker 1>him and they hated his team. Jimmy Johnson comes in
<v Speaker 1>today at number two. So we reached the number one
<v Speaker 1>most hated coach in college football history.
<v Speaker 2>And we get to a guy that didn't just beat you.
<v Speaker 1>He reminded you he beat you, and how bad he
<v Speaker 1>beat you. He had played quarterback at the University of
<v Speaker 1>Florida and won the Heisman himself in nineteen sixty six,
<v Speaker 1>and then he went back to Gainsville in nineteen ninety
<v Speaker 1>and he took a program that was known for always
<v Speaker 1>choking in the biggest moments and lifted them to heights
<v Speaker 1>they had no idea even existed. Because Steve Spurrier was
<v Speaker 1>not just an offensive genius that lit up the scoreboard.
<v Speaker 1>Rival fans hated Spurrier not only because he beat him
<v Speaker 1>and lit up a scoreboard doing it, but that he
<v Speaker 1>also liked to tell him about it.
<v Speaker 2>Afterward.
<v Speaker 1>Spurrier said Florida State was called FSU because they were
<v Speaker 1>Free Shoes University after a scandal involving players taking free gear.
<v Speaker 1>He told Tennessee, you can't spell Citrus Bowl about ut.
<v Speaker 1>He said the University of Auburn had a fire in
<v Speaker 1>their library and some of their books were even colored in.
<v Speaker 1>Yet Steve Spurger went one, twenty two, twenty seven and
<v Speaker 1>one at the University of Florida, and he led the
<v Speaker 1>Gators to a national title against their biggest rival, Freeshoes
<v Speaker 1>University in the less but man, people hated him.
<v Speaker 2>Hey, what do all these guys have in common? They
<v Speaker 2>all talked a bit.
<v Speaker 1>They all may have let their players get away with
<v Speaker 1>some things, But more important than any of that, they
<v Speaker 1>all won, and they all won big. You can make
<v Speaker 1>fun of whoever you want. But if they whip you
<v Speaker 1>on Saturday, who cares.
<v Speaker 2>People will laugh at you, not hate you.
<v Speaker 1>Hey, if Lane Kiffin really wants to be hated, he
<v Speaker 1>needs to win and he needs to win big. He
<v Speaker 1>hasn't quite done that yet. We'll see if he can
<v Speaker 1>get there at LSU. Hey, next week, come a Dose,
