<v Speaker 1>Well, there's been more backlash throughout yesterday for Ed Sheeran. Meanwhile,
<v Speaker 1>we found out that there were pre-show discussions with Macklemore
<v Speaker 1>about not bringing up pro-Palestinian messaging on stage, which reportedly
<v Speaker 1>Macklemore agreed to, but he did it anyway. Which is
<v Speaker 1>part of why Robert Kraft, I guess, felt the need
<v Speaker 1>to force Macklemore off of Ed's tour.
<v Speaker 2>So that's just interesting to know.
<v Speaker 1>But Macklemore announced yesterday after receiving, you know, so much
<v Speaker 1>support for from everywhere that he is going to donate
<v Speaker 1>his entire one million in net earnings from Ed's loop tour.
<v Speaker 1>to six different organizations supporting Palestinians. And he invited Robert
<v Speaker 1>Kraft to match it. He said, hey, this is what
<v Speaker 1>I'm doing. I dare you to match it.
<v Speaker 2>And he did. And on top of that, Ed Sheeran
<v Speaker 2>did as well.
<v Speaker 1>Ed actually did $ 2 million on top of all of that.
<v Speaker 1>So with all this bad blood going on and all
<v Speaker 1>this craziness happening this week with this situation, they're at
<v Speaker 1>least putting money towards the same humanitarian crisis, which at
<v Speaker 1>the end of the day is pathetic.
<v Speaker 2>Probably a good thing.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, that's fantastic. And Nina, it's so funny, the story
<v Speaker 3>that you brought to us and to all of our
<v Speaker 3>attention that we've been covering for so long, I'm going
<v Speaker 3>to add to that now. And there is even more,
<v Speaker 3>I don't want to say drama, but there's an extra
<v Speaker 3>layer to this whole thing. Guitar Center actually came out
<v Speaker 3>last month and said in a contest, hey, who wants
<v Speaker 3>to open for Ed Sheeran?
<v Speaker 2>Uh-oh.
<v Speaker 3>Was this like foreshadowing or something?
<v Speaker 2>Wait, really?
<v Speaker 3>Yes. The world may never know if this was actual foreshadowing,
<v Speaker 3>but I do want to let you know that I'm
<v Speaker 3>going to try and get in this spot. This is awesome.
<v Speaker 3>This is for all guitarists 18 years and older. And
<v Speaker 3>if they want to put in a song that they
<v Speaker 3>have written, you can open for Legends. It's a competition
<v Speaker 3>series that Guitar Center started last month. And if you're chosen,
<v Speaker 3>the winner actually gets $ 15, 000 of cash.
<v Speaker 4>Whoa.
<v Speaker 2>I know.
<v Speaker 3>And the trip is totally paid for. And you get
<v Speaker 3>to open for Ed Sheeran at his Mexico City show
<v Speaker 3>on December 11th. So a free trip out of the country,
<v Speaker 3>all expenses paid. $ 15, 000 cash. I am in on this.
<v Speaker 3>I'm going to write the best song I've ever written,
<v Speaker 3>and I'm going to be going on tour with Ed
<v Speaker 3>Sheeran December 11th.
<v Speaker 2>Oh my gosh, please submit for that. That would be incredible.
<v Speaker 3>This is so funny how this whole thing has happened,
<v Speaker 3>because last month was way before any of this, all
<v Speaker 3>this drama unleashed, and now we get a chance to
<v Speaker 3>have a no-name open for Ed Sheeran?
<v Speaker 2>I mean, all right, all right. And we'll be your groupies, Josh.
<v Speaker 3>We've got you. Okay, sounds good. Perfect.
<v Speaker 1>So, Josh, we are trying to get to know each
<v Speaker 1>other a little bit more because although we've been coworkers
<v Speaker 1>for several years now.
<v Speaker 2>We haven't spent all that much time together.
<v Speaker 3>No, I mean, we were on opposite schedules. Right. Our
<v Speaker 3>entire work lives here. I was in the mornings. You
<v Speaker 3>were in the drive home.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah.
<v Speaker 3>So it's like we'd say hi and then... So, yeah,
<v Speaker 3>that's about it.
<v Speaker 2>Exactly. We would just kind of cross paths every once
<v Speaker 2>in a while.
<v Speaker 1>But I think it's interesting that you have several siblings
<v Speaker 1>and you were just asking me about my siblings yesterday.
<v Speaker 1>I do have two older sisters that I grew up with.
<v Speaker 1>And it's funny because I have a bunch of nieces
<v Speaker 1>and nephews that I'm actually closer in age with. So
<v Speaker 1>they're almost like my siblings as well. But for me,
<v Speaker 1>it's a little bit complicated. But for you, you have
<v Speaker 1>a lot of siblings too. I was surprised to find
<v Speaker 1>out how many siblings you have.
<v Speaker 3>I do. And my siblings' ages span a lot, like many,
<v Speaker 3>many years. I'm actually 10 years older than my youngest brother.
<v Speaker 3>And he is in his final year of college. And
<v Speaker 3>so for me, I'm like, dude, Senior year for you,
<v Speaker 3>are you just going to go absolutely crazy? Because I
<v Speaker 3>remember my time in college.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, you were a wild child. You had some fun
<v Speaker 2>for sure.
<v Speaker 3>No, it was a good time. What can I say?
<v Speaker 3>I mean, did you not have fun in college?
<v Speaker 2>I mean, I definitely did.
<v Speaker 1>And most people got to get that out of their system.
<v Speaker 2>So there's no.
<v Speaker 3>I was going to say, back me up on this.
<v Speaker 2>A little bit.
<v Speaker 3>No shade. No, no, no.
<v Speaker 2>It's all right.
<v Speaker 3>So you and I are familiar with the term darty.
<v Speaker 3>It's a day party, okay? Yeah. That's what all colleges do.
<v Speaker 3>I was up at CSU. Go Rammies. We had a
<v Speaker 3>lot of darties like this. However, with those darties would
<v Speaker 3>usually come a lot of day.
<v Speaker 2>Drinking, if you will.
<v Speaker 3>Oh, yeah.
<v Speaker 2>I mean, that's what it is.
<v Speaker 3>You can't drink all day if you don't start in
<v Speaker 3>the morning. That's what it is.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah. 8 a.m., let's go.
<v Speaker 3>Well, this is very different. So I was talking to
<v Speaker 3>my brother, and he's about... a month into his first
<v Speaker 3>semester of senior year now. So I was talking, I
<v Speaker 3>was like, hey, we would always get up there a
<v Speaker 3>little early and have a couple parties and, you know,
<v Speaker 3>everybody's back in town. He told me something that I
<v Speaker 3>was flabbergasted. And I think that's the only word that
<v Speaker 3>I can actually think of in this moment.
<v Speaker 2>When the younger brother is already shocking you, what happened?
<v Speaker 3>Well, they're doing these things called darties, but they're not
<v Speaker 3>a normal darty. It's a wellness darty. And I am
<v Speaker 3>not kidding you. This thing is filled with Like drinking
<v Speaker 3>coffee or matcha. People can go on runs during these Darties.
<v Speaker 3>They can exercise. They have ice.
<v Speaker 2>Like yoga sessions.
<v Speaker 3>Literally ice baths and yoga sessions at these Darties. Interesting.
<v Speaker 3>This is not what I'm familiar with in any way.
<v Speaker 3>But this is all part of a new generation where.
<v Speaker 2>No, it really is.
<v Speaker 3>These Gen Zers, or I guess even now Gen Alphas, are...
<v Speaker 3>wanting to live life and have longevity in life, which
<v Speaker 3>I guess you and I didn't experience while we were
<v Speaker 3>in college. No, no.
<v Speaker 1>We're like pour seven different alcohols into this bin and
<v Speaker 1>call it a day.
<v Speaker 3>And I can't imagine, I can't even believe we did
<v Speaker 3>that where people would put their hands in I know
<v Speaker 3>it's gross. Like it just it doesn't make any sense.
<v Speaker 2>It is really gross. But you know what? Our immune
<v Speaker 2>system is great because of it. So that's one thing.
<v Speaker 3>I hope so. It's just interesting to me. These wellness darties,
<v Speaker 3>there's zero alcohol involved, like there's zero booze. There's not
<v Speaker 3>really any loud music anymore. If anything, they're listening to.
<v Speaker 3>the calming music, maybe even some white noise, and just
<v Speaker 3>hanging out and talking. Wow.
<v Speaker 2>I mean, that's nice. That's very nice. It's very wholesome.
<v Speaker 2>But you're right. It's completely different from when you and
<v Speaker 2>I were in college.
<v Speaker 3>This new movement is very different, which is fine. I mean,
<v Speaker 3>these people are probably going to live to be 110,
<v Speaker 3>which is awesome.
<v Speaker 2>It'll be interesting to see how it all kind of
<v Speaker 2>turns out. I mean, you and I will be dead, but...
<v Speaker 2>And this will be interesting to see.
<v Speaker 3>But we have good stories to talk about.
<v Speaker 2>We have great stories, but yeah. That's what I'm saying.
<v Speaker 3>You need this. I'm not saying you need to drink
<v Speaker 3>a lot. Drink very responsibly and be over 21 years old.
<v Speaker 2>As you should, for sure.
<v Speaker 3>That being said.
<v Speaker 2>Have some fun.
<v Speaker 3>Have you ever had a really good college story saying,
<v Speaker 3>so my friends and I went out and got matcha?
<v Speaker 2>That's how it started.
<v Speaker 3>No, you don't. You don't have those good parties and stories.
<v Speaker 3>Come on.
<v Speaker 2>I don't know. The kids are different these days.
<v Speaker 1>It's like you kind of want to shake your head
<v Speaker 1>a little bit, but at the same time, they're being
<v Speaker 1>healthy and responsible and good.
<v Speaker 2>And so it's like, fine.
<v Speaker 3>No, Nina, y'all are whack. Y'all are crazy.
<v Speaker 2>I don't know how to feel about it. Just do you, kids,
<v Speaker 2>I guess, okay?
<v Speaker 1>Three things you need to know before you go into
<v Speaker 1>the office, like Arvada city leaders. They announced that they
<v Speaker 1>were considering adding paid parking in Old Town Arvada to
<v Speaker 1>battle spot hogs, but then all the locals heard about it,
<v Speaker 1>and they responded to a city survey, and about 4,000
<v Speaker 1>people said, uh-uh. Ain't no way you're doing that to
<v Speaker 1>our town.
<v Speaker 3>Those are the spot hogs.
<v Speaker 2>Those are the ones hogging the spots.
<v Speaker 3>Probably.
<v Speaker 1>But after a strong pushback from businesses and residents, they
<v Speaker 1>are rolling back on this paid parking proposal. A lot
<v Speaker 1>of the business owners agree that paid parking is actually
<v Speaker 1>going to do more harm than good, especially for their businesses.
<v Speaker 1>If someone needs to just run in really quick, grab
<v Speaker 1>one thing, you're not going to want to pay for parking.
<v Speaker 2>And that's kind of the argument there.
<v Speaker 3>I get that. They could go the Cherry Creek way
<v Speaker 3>a little bit and do like, hey, 30 minutes or
<v Speaker 3>less is free. Ooh. But they do know that Cherry Creek,
<v Speaker 3>those people, they spend hours in the shopping mall and
<v Speaker 3>things like that.
<v Speaker 2>Right. Although that's a good, I don't know, I like
<v Speaker 2>that idea.
<v Speaker 3>Hire me for mayor. Maybe. I'm available.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, there you go.
<v Speaker 1>City officials or city residents say that the city should
<v Speaker 1>focus on improvements to the transit hub instead. So for now,
<v Speaker 1>there will continue to be free parking in Old Town, Arvada.
<v Speaker 3>Well, that's good. I think they need that still. And
<v Speaker 3>I want to let you know, be very careful with
<v Speaker 3>your kiddos when you're traveling during the holiday season this year.
<v Speaker 3>Many of those kids are opting to bring, like, their squishies.
<v Speaker 3>Do you know what I'm talking about? Like, those little dumplings,
<v Speaker 3>you know? Of course.
<v Speaker 2>The squishies. There's, like, butter.
<v Speaker 3>Yes, yes, yes, yes.
<v Speaker 2>There's the dumplings. There's all sorts of stuff.
<v Speaker 3>All the rage right now. Totally all the rage. And
<v Speaker 3>some of these are pretty rare. Like, I know the
<v Speaker 3>dumpling craze has gotten completely out of hand if you
<v Speaker 3>go to, like, five below or whatever. Yeah. You try
<v Speaker 3>to find the sparkling one. My sisters have gone nuts
<v Speaker 3>for it. It's... Weird thing. It's their adults, but it's fine. Anyway. Yeah.
<v Speaker 3>If you want to bring those through the TSA, some
<v Speaker 3>of those are too big and you cannot bring them
<v Speaker 3>through the TSA. And this has led to viral videos.
<v Speaker 3>I'm not trying to laugh at them. but viral videos
<v Speaker 3>of kids throwing massive fits because they have to throw
<v Speaker 3>those away.
<v Speaker 2>Oh, so the inside, is that technically liquid?
<v Speaker 3>It's a liquid, and you can't bring anything more than
<v Speaker 3>eight ounces of liquid onto the plane. Now, if you
<v Speaker 3>pack it in your suitcase, that might be okay, but
<v Speaker 3>anything carry-on worthy, you cannot do that, and some of
<v Speaker 3>these are the rare ones. Like, I know one video
<v Speaker 3>went viral because it was the large butter stick squishy,
<v Speaker 3>and those ones are super hard to find. Some of
<v Speaker 3>these are even going, and I know this isn't, like,
<v Speaker 3>super expensive, but think about what you're buying. You're buying
<v Speaker 3>a rubber squishy. Some of these are going as high
<v Speaker 3>as like 45 bucks on eBay and things like that.
<v Speaker 3>And these videos of the children throwing absolute fits have
<v Speaker 3>gone viral and it's funny. But just remember, if you
<v Speaker 3>have a child that wants to have these on the
<v Speaker 3>plane with them so they can play, because these are
<v Speaker 3>sensory toys.
<v Speaker 2>You know, they're good for that.
<v Speaker 3>They're great for keeping your child busy. However, understand that
<v Speaker 3>planes and airlines do have rules and you just may
<v Speaker 3>not be able to bring the bigger ones on those planes.
<v Speaker 3>and you don't want your kids to be throwing fits
<v Speaker 3>in the TSA, because it's already stressful enough.
<v Speaker 2>It is, it totally is.
<v Speaker 1>So yeah, that's just a nightmare, I think, for a
<v Speaker 1>lot of parents. So you've been warned.
<v Speaker 3>Just think ahead.
<v Speaker 2>Put it in your checked baggage.
<v Speaker 1>And Trader Joe's has a new tote bag for you
<v Speaker 1>to stand in line for. It was announced yesterday, this
<v Speaker 1>special mini Halloween tote bag that is gonna be given out.
<v Speaker 1>It's classic Halloween black, pumpkin orange, ghoulish green, and.
<v Speaker 2>A pop of purple.
<v Speaker 1>There's three or four different varieties of these bags, the
<v Speaker 1>same colors, they just like mixed and matched the pattern.
<v Speaker 1>but they're going to be available in Trader Joe's for
<v Speaker 1>a limited time starting next Wednesday, September 30th. They're going
<v Speaker 1>to cost $ 3, $ 2. 99, not bad, but it's hard to
<v Speaker 1>get your hands on them.
<v Speaker 2>People stand in.
<v Speaker 1>Line hours before the stores open up to get these
<v Speaker 1>because they resell them, and they've resold for hundreds of dollars.
<v Speaker 3>And I don't understand this. This is kind of going
<v Speaker 3>back to the Arvada spot hog thing. You're spot hogging
<v Speaker 3>in line now, and I don't get it. It's a bag.
<v Speaker 3>I remember... Trader Joe's does this for multiple seasons. They do, yeah.
<v Speaker 3>So there was like a spring one that dropped. And
<v Speaker 3>I was like, hey, maybe I'll just go in. I
<v Speaker 3>was near a Trader Joe's. I wanted to grab a bag.
<v Speaker 3>And he's like, I talked to a guy there. And
<v Speaker 3>he's like, dude, those sold out in like 10 minutes.
<v Speaker 3>And I was like, these bags sell out? This is
<v Speaker 3>a thing?
<v Speaker 1>They're a hot commodity. It's weird, too, because for me,
<v Speaker 1>I'm like, that's such a small bag. They're tiny.
<v Speaker 2>They're smaller.
<v Speaker 3>They don't hold much.
<v Speaker 2>They don't hold much.
<v Speaker 1>But I think people want them because it's like a
<v Speaker 1>quick lunch bag at work.
<v Speaker 2>Or it's a good bag to use for a gift
<v Speaker 2>as your friend.
<v Speaker 1>Then you fill it with candles and candies and small
<v Speaker 1>things like that.
<v Speaker 2>And so it's a good gift bag.
<v Speaker 3>Y'all want to be so trendy. And I get it.
<v Speaker 3>I understand it. It's the same thing with those Starbucks
<v Speaker 3>cups when they come out.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah.
<v Speaker 3>It's just.
<v Speaker 1>It's the next thing that we're just all buying, unfortunately.
<v Speaker 2>So your celebrity quickie. Despite kicking the.
<v Speaker 1>Broncos' butts on Monday, Travis Kelsey is actually not having
<v Speaker 1>a great week this week.
<v Speaker 2>Good.
<v Speaker 3>Sorry.
<v Speaker 2>I knew you'd be happy about that.
<v Speaker 3>I'm still bitter. Yeah.
<v Speaker 2>He was named as a victim in a Ponzi scheme.
<v Speaker 2>So there's this guy.
<v Speaker 1>He has been sentenced to 11 years in prison for fraud,
<v Speaker 1>taking in more than $ 35 million from investors. Travis being
<v Speaker 1>one of those investors.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah.
<v Speaker 1>So his exact losses were not disclosed just yet. So
<v Speaker 1>we don't know how much of that $ 35 million was his,
<v Speaker 1>but I bet he lost a pretty penny. And not
<v Speaker 1>only did that happen that he's got a deal with now,
<v Speaker 1>he bought that huge mansion in Ohio, right? With Taylor Swift.
<v Speaker 1>And they're having some issues with that as well. So
<v Speaker 1>they want to build a eight foot tall wall. a
<v Speaker 1>privacy fence, right? They're massive celebrities.
<v Speaker 2>It makes sense. But the city, well, right.
<v Speaker 1>The city is only allowing the type of fence that
<v Speaker 1>they want to be 30 inches in height versus the
<v Speaker 1>eight feet.
<v Speaker 2>That they want.
<v Speaker 3>That's a massive difference.
<v Speaker 2>I know.
<v Speaker 1>What?
<v Speaker 2>They're like, nope, you get 30 inches.
<v Speaker 3>What the heck?
<v Speaker 1>So they spent millions of dollars on this house thinking that,
<v Speaker 1>oh yeah, we can do this and that, especially to
<v Speaker 1>protect our privacy. And they may not be able to
<v Speaker 1>because city officials are like, nah, that's just not how
<v Speaker 1>it works here.
<v Speaker 3>You know what? Just because he's on the chief's good. Okay, anyway,
<v Speaker 3>moving on. I'm going to bring this up because I
<v Speaker 3>love it. Spider-Man Brand New Day is making history. This
<v Speaker 3>is the movie that came out in July of, And
<v Speaker 3>it's now the highest grossing movie domestically in the history
<v Speaker 3>of movies, right? It's crazy. It surpassed Star Wars The
<v Speaker 3>Force Awakens and in true Star Wars fashion. Look, I
<v Speaker 3>had to throw this in there.
<v Speaker 2>I love this.
<v Speaker 3>In true Star Wars fashion, Lucasfilm congratulated the new winner
<v Speaker 3>with impressive, most impressive, and the force is strong with you. Now,
<v Speaker 3>for those Star Wars fans, if you know, you know,
<v Speaker 3>that is a major Star Wars line, and I love it.
<v Speaker 3>It's a quote from the movies. Spider-Man has now grossed $ 936. 8
<v Speaker 3>million domestically and is the third highest grossing grossing movie
<v Speaker 3>worldwide amassing $ 2. 43 billion, Nina. Wow.
<v Speaker 2>Have you seen this movie? No, I haven't.
<v Speaker 1>I haven't really watched any of them. I felt like, well,
<v Speaker 1>the thing is there's so many of them, right? And
<v Speaker 1>it starts back at even like the Avengers and stuff
<v Speaker 1>like that. Yes. I am not caught up and it's
<v Speaker 1>intimidating the amount of movies that I need to watch
<v Speaker 1>in order to catch up.
<v Speaker 3>Let me tell you. So it's funny. I actually am
<v Speaker 3>not a huge... huge Avengers follower, and now I'm not
<v Speaker 3>gonna say I'm not a fan, because I did what
<v Speaker 3>you just said you need to do. I watched the
<v Speaker 3>entire Marvel catalog without interruption, and it took forever. I
<v Speaker 3>did it with my brother. It's like three weeks of movies. Oh, no, seriously.
<v Speaker 3>If you watch everything, including the Disney Plus shows, it's
<v Speaker 3>like 63 different movies and shows you need to watch. Oh.
<v Speaker 3>And some of those shows have like seven seasons. So
<v Speaker 3>it took a minute to get through it. However, I'm
<v Speaker 3>really glad I did it because I was caught up
<v Speaker 3>on things that I missed out on years and decades ago.
<v Speaker 3>And it was really neat to see that. But this
<v Speaker 3>movie specifically is awesome. I saw it twice in theaters.
<v Speaker 3>I loved it so much.
<v Speaker 1>So is this a movie that I can just go
<v Speaker 1>watch without knowing all the other stuff?
<v Speaker 3>There will be a few parts that you're a little
<v Speaker 3>confused on. But it's Spider-Man. You'll be able to watch
<v Speaker 3>Spider-Man and be like, dude, he shoots webs from his wrist.
<v Speaker 3>It's awesome.
<v Speaker 2>I've heard it's great. It's really good.
<v Speaker 1>And I do want to watch it because it's getting
<v Speaker 1>so much hype and it's making this much money, so
<v Speaker 1>it's got to be good.
<v Speaker 3>Tom Holland and Zendaya, they're great.
<v Speaker 2>That's mostly why I want to watch it, but I
<v Speaker 2>feel intimidated. I think you.
<v Speaker 3>Could watch it and just appreciate that it's a good
<v Speaker 3>movie with being confused in like two parts. Okay. It's okay.
<v Speaker 3>It's okay.
<v Speaker 2>Okay, good to know. Thank you.
<v Speaker 1>So rapper Drake has been all wrapped up with this
<v Speaker 1>goth baddie who won a dating challenge to be with
<v Speaker 1>Drake in the first place, which that's kind of weird,
<v Speaker 1>but do you, boo-boo.
<v Speaker 2>Her name is Pinkchew, and.
<v Speaker 1>She has got Drake wrapped around her black nail polish
<v Speaker 1>painted finger.
<v Speaker 3>Is this not a play on word of Pikachu? Pinkchew?
<v Speaker 2>I think so.
<v Speaker 1>I think that's exactly what it's supposed to be, yes.
<v Speaker 1>But she has had Drake do all sorts of stuff.
<v Speaker 1>She's had him bark like a dog on the internet.
<v Speaker 1>She's had him buy her mom a house. And now
<v Speaker 1>she is dressing Drake all goth in Hot Topics Best.
<v Speaker 3>He just shops at Spencer's in Hot Topics now. I know.
<v Speaker 2>For real. For real.
<v Speaker 1>So they put out a new music video together. It
<v Speaker 1>was for a music video. But he is trying on
<v Speaker 1>clothes literally at a Hot Topic. a ripped up black sweater.
<v Speaker 1>He's got these baggy, huge black pants on with chains
<v Speaker 1>all over them. And Drake turned goth in this music video.
<v Speaker 1>And then it just had a weird turn, kinda. And
<v Speaker 1>then they went over to Medieval Times.
<v Speaker 2>For some reason.
<v Speaker 1>I don't really know, but these two are definitely having
<v Speaker 1>some fun with each other. But I just think it's
<v Speaker 1>weird that they met in the first place on a
<v Speaker 1>dating challenge.
<v Speaker 3>Wait, so does he bark in the music video, or
<v Speaker 3>is he literally barking for her?
<v Speaker 2>No, that was a different video. He's barking for her.
<v Speaker 3>I have never, ever barked for a woman. That is.
<v Speaker 2>I don't know if it's true love then, Josh.
<v Speaker 3>I don't know.
<v Speaker 2>I'm just saying. Josh, I heard this interesting story.
<v Speaker 1>An Egyptian president who, you know, you're the highest of
<v Speaker 1>the high. You have all this money. You don't got
<v Speaker 1>to worry about a thing. Anything you want, you get it.
<v Speaker 2>Right away.
<v Speaker 1>But this Egyptian president got a gift that he could
<v Speaker 1>not get over.
<v Speaker 2>And I feel like you relate to this.
<v Speaker 3>I relate to this on like a spiritual level, Nina.
<v Speaker 3>And it was so funny. I saw this story how
<v Speaker 3>it was Egyptians, Egypt's foreign minister. So their prime minister.
<v Speaker 3>I don't want to butcher his name. I'm just going
<v Speaker 3>to say his last name, Abdullati. I believe that's it.
<v Speaker 3>He received a Lego Great Pyramid of Giza from the
<v Speaker 3>Danish foreign minister, Lars. Again, I don't want to butcher
<v Speaker 3>his last name. So Lars gave Abdulladi the Lego set,
<v Speaker 3>which is the Great Pyramid, simply because he's from Egypt. Now,
<v Speaker 3>I know that sounds so silly. You're like, these two
<v Speaker 3>grown men are giving each other Lego sets.
<v Speaker 2>Legos of all things.
<v Speaker 3>However, if you know me at all, you know I
<v Speaker 3>freaking love Legos, okay? I am a kid at heart
<v Speaker 3>with adult money now, and I can buy whatever I want,
<v Speaker 3>and so for me, I bought Star Wars Legos galore,
<v Speaker 3>especially during COVID when I was just bored out of
<v Speaker 3>my mind.
<v Speaker 2>Right, it's something to do.
<v Speaker 3>It's so much fun. And I will say for all
<v Speaker 3>the haters out there, a lot of you people, these
<v Speaker 3>Lego sets say 18 plus, okay? So ha, you can't
<v Speaker 3>have them as a kid. You have to be an
<v Speaker 3>adult to build them.
<v Speaker 1>Yes.
<v Speaker 2>I had no idea.
<v Speaker 3>It just made me think, Nina, for you, what do you,
<v Speaker 3>what is a silly kind of stupid gift that you
<v Speaker 3>would get that would literally just make your day? And
<v Speaker 3>I do want to throw this out to the text line.
<v Speaker 3>Call us, text us 303-691-1649. What silly gift would you
<v Speaker 3>want or have you gotten that just made your day? Okay.
<v Speaker 1>This is going to be just absolutely ridiculous. And it
<v Speaker 1>definitely stems from childhood. Like This is something you want,
<v Speaker 1>but you never really had it.
<v Speaker 2>I would love a Barbie house.
<v Speaker 3>Oh, my gosh. Okay, those things were sick. I would
<v Speaker 3>love one. Those things were so detailed. They had so
<v Speaker 3>many different rooms you could play in. You never got one?
<v Speaker 1>Well, I did back in the day, but I feel
<v Speaker 1>like it was very basic, and then I never got, like,
<v Speaker 1>the add-ons, you know?
<v Speaker 3>Oh, okay.
<v Speaker 1>And now I've seen so many, like, creative TikToks of, like,
<v Speaker 1>here's how you can wallpaper your Barbie dream house and
<v Speaker 1>like different things.
<v Speaker 2>And like, that's the part. Like, I think I would
<v Speaker 2>just hyper fixate.
<v Speaker 1>On designing my ideal, perfect mansion. Like if I could
<v Speaker 1>have one, but it wouldn't actually be mine. It would
<v Speaker 1>just be a Barbie, Barbie dream house.
<v Speaker 3>So fully adult married, grown arse Nina is going to
<v Speaker 3>be sitting down in her living room, wallpapering her Barbie
<v Speaker 3>Nina house. Yes. Yes.
<v Speaker 2>And I have a, actually, I have a toy from
<v Speaker 2>my childhood.
<v Speaker 1>I was never allowed to open, and then my mom
<v Speaker 1>gave it to me as an adult, and I definitely
<v Speaker 1>opened it. It was a collector's edition Barbie. It was
<v Speaker 1>a Selena Quintanilla Barbie doll.
<v Speaker 3>You opened that? thing's probably worth like $ 10, 000 now if
<v Speaker 3>it's in the box.
<v Speaker 2>Not really. I looked it up online.
<v Speaker 1>It was like $ 20, 000.
<v Speaker 4>Oh, okay.
<v Speaker 3>Well, you know, hey, 20 bucks, though. That's a free
<v Speaker 3>lunch for you. I know, right, right.
<v Speaker 2>But no, I totally opened it. I was like, let
<v Speaker 2>me look it up first. I looked it up first,
<v Speaker 2>and I was like, eh.
<v Speaker 3>Okay, you're smart.
<v Speaker 2>No, it's okay. I'll just keep it. But I got
<v Speaker 2>to open.
<v Speaker 1>It up, and I brushed her hair for the first
<v Speaker 1>time ever in my life.
<v Speaker 2>That's cute.
<v Speaker 1>Like, I've had this Barbie since I was... probably seven.
<v Speaker 2>Or eight years old.
<v Speaker 3>Why did your mom kind of withhold it from you?
<v Speaker 2>Because she thought it was going to be worth a
<v Speaker 2>million dollars later.
<v Speaker 3>So it's like the Beanie Baby thing where everybody's like,
<v Speaker 3>in 2064, this Beanie Baby is going to be worth
<v Speaker 3>seven grand.
<v Speaker 2>One million percent.
<v Speaker 3>Yes.
<v Speaker 1>And she also had a Beanie Baby collection that she
<v Speaker 1>pretended was mine, but I never saw them again. But yeah,
<v Speaker 1>so I've opened up that Barbie and then I would
<v Speaker 1>just make Selena's dream house.
<v Speaker 2>Are you kidding me?
<v Speaker 3>That's cute. I like that. And it's kind of the
<v Speaker 3>same thing with me. Like when I was younger, I
<v Speaker 3>wanted so many Lego sets and these Lego sets are
<v Speaker 3>freaking expensive. There's so much money. And so my parents
<v Speaker 3>were like, Hey, we got five kids to fend for.
<v Speaker 3>Like you're not going to get the $ 800 millennium Falcon.
<v Speaker 3>So what did I do when I got adult money?
<v Speaker 3>I bought that $ 800 Millennium Falcon, Nina. You bet I
<v Speaker 3>built that too.
<v Speaker 2>Yes, you did.
<v Speaker 1>We got a text coming in on the text line.
<v Speaker 1>Alicia says that she was going to say Barbie Dreamhouse
<v Speaker 1>as well or Polly Pockets.
<v Speaker 2>I would settle for a Polly Pocket too.
<v Speaker 3>My sister, this is the dumbest thing I'm ever going
<v Speaker 3>to say on air. My sister loved Polly Pockets.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah.
<v Speaker 3>I would take those Polly Pockets. You know how you
<v Speaker 3>can dress them in different clothes?
<v Speaker 2>Yes.
<v Speaker 3>And the clothes were like rubber. Yeah. Yeah. I would
<v Speaker 3>chew on the clothes like they were gum. And that
<v Speaker 3>plastic tasted so good.
<v Speaker 2>A lot of kids did. I'm not going to lie.
<v Speaker 3>I'm pretty sure I've swallowed a bunch of pair of
<v Speaker 3>Polly Pocket boots.
<v Speaker 1>Oh my gosh, I love it. Someone else texted in
<v Speaker 1>a koosh ball. I don't know what that is, but
<v Speaker 1>I would keep it at my desk at work. I
<v Speaker 1>feel like it's a squishy type of thing.
<v Speaker 3>Poosh ball. I know what that is. Hold on. It's the... No, no, no.
<v Speaker 3>It's the ball that you can... It has like a
<v Speaker 3>thousand different strings and they're rubber and you can pull them.
<v Speaker 2>Oh, those are fun.
<v Speaker 3>You can pull them. I probably swallowed some of that
<v Speaker 3>rubber too. Yeah. This is explaining so much of my
<v Speaker 3>brain right now.
<v Speaker 2>It's like a fidget toy. It is, yeah.
<v Speaker 1>Shani says, for me, a giraffe anything. So maybe giraffe stuffy,
<v Speaker 1>something like that.
<v Speaker 2>I love it. All these texts are rolling in. Tell
<v Speaker 2>us what would be like.
<v Speaker 1>a gift that you received that you would just go
<v Speaker 1>crazy over.
<v Speaker 2>Maybe it was something from your childhood.
<v Speaker 3>303-691-1649.
<v Speaker 2>Text us. We would love to see. What you would
<v Speaker 2>love to have.
<v Speaker 3>It's time to wake up and wise up.
<v Speaker 2>Am I in trouble? It's the Pop Quiz Hot Seat.
<v Speaker 3>Attention, everyone. On Denver's Morning Show.
<v Speaker 2>With Nina and Josh.
<v Speaker 1>Jennifer and Thornton, good morning. We're playing Pop Quiz Hot Seat.
<v Speaker 1>How's your day going so far?
<v Speaker 3>It's going good.
<v Speaker 2>Good.
<v Speaker 1>The sky's all kind of like purpley right now. We
<v Speaker 1>got some cloud action going on. But I think because
<v Speaker 1>of a purple sky, that means good luck.
<v Speaker 3>Okay, sounds good.
<v Speaker 2>Okay, here's your first question.
<v Speaker 1>Which American state is the largest by area?
<v Speaker 3>Alaska.
<v Speaker 2>Alaska, yes. Your second question.
<v Speaker 1>Which technology company bought Whole Foods in 2017?
<v Speaker 3>Amazon.
<v Speaker 2>Amazon's correct. Your third question.
<v Speaker 1>In what movie did Dolly Parton star with Julia Roberts
<v Speaker 1>and Sally Field?
<v Speaker 3>Steel Magnolias.
<v Speaker 2>That's correct. Did you see Sally Field's speech at the
<v Speaker 2>Emmys the other night?
<v Speaker 3>I did. It was wonderful.
<v Speaker 2>I know. So, so good.
<v Speaker 1>And fourth question, which part of the human body has
<v Speaker 1>the most bones in it?
<v Speaker 3>The hand.
<v Speaker 2>The hand is correct.
<v Speaker 1>They have one more bone than the feet do.
<v Speaker 2>So you got it.
<v Speaker 1>Your fifth question, what is the name of the fictional
<v Speaker 1>city where Batman lives? Gotham.
<v Speaker 2>Yes.
<v Speaker 1>Your sixth question, which river runs through the Grand Canyon?
<v Speaker 1>The Colorado.
<v Speaker 2>Yes. And your final.
<v Speaker 1>Question, what type of animal is the Buc-ee's mascot?
<v Speaker 3>A beaver.
<v Speaker 4>Beaver.
<v Speaker 3>Yes.
<v Speaker 2>Congratulations. You won the Pop Quiz Hot Seat.
<v Speaker 3>Awesome.
<v Speaker 1>We're going to get you these tickets to go join
<v Speaker 1>Big Rob at Anderson Farms next Saturday, September 26th for
<v Speaker 1>the Mix 100 Monster Bash. And you get those VIP
<v Speaker 1>tickets to Terror in the Corn.
<v Speaker 4>Fascinating.
<v Speaker 1>That is awesome.
<v Speaker 2>It's always a fun time out there.
<v Speaker 1>So bring your comfy shoes, though, because Terror in the Corn,
<v Speaker 1>it's a long ways to go, but it's so much fun.
<v Speaker 3>Okay, sounds fantastic.
<v Speaker 2>And tell me what station is making you a winner.
<v Speaker 3>Mix 100.
<v Speaker 1>Three things you need to know before you go into
<v Speaker 1>the office today, including if you live in Castle Rock
<v Speaker 1>and your power has gone out this week, it is
<v Speaker 1>because Castle Rock apparently has a squirrel problem. Both on
<v Speaker 1>Tuesday and Wednesday of this week, two different squirrels caused
<v Speaker 1>power outages at the same substation in Castle Rock.
<v Speaker 3>Are they hiding their nuts there? What's going on?
<v Speaker 2>Maybe, maybe.
<v Speaker 3>I don't know. Are these squirrels still with us?
<v Speaker 2>Well, we'll get to that.
<v Speaker 4>So Core Electric Cooperative confirmed that it was because of
<v Speaker 4>squirrels causing explosions.
<v Speaker 3>Oh, they're not with us.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, I don't think that they are.
<v Speaker 3>Oh, my Lord. Oh, that's kind of sad.
<v Speaker 2>I know. Exactly.
<v Speaker 1>And the fact that it happened two days in a row,
<v Speaker 1>I'm assuming two different squirrels.
<v Speaker 2>I guess that's not confirmed.
<v Speaker 1>But like when they're saying the word explosion, it's like
<v Speaker 1>these squirrels are probably not with us anymore.
<v Speaker 3>No. Oh, you know what?
<v Speaker 2>They're small creatures.
<v Speaker 3>Hold on. A member of the family was just reached
<v Speaker 3>out to, and they said it's been a shocking experience
<v Speaker 3>for them all.
<v Speaker 2>Shut up!
<v Speaker 3>Oh, no!
<v Speaker 2>Stop right now!
<v Speaker 3>Hey, it's the quote. I'm just reading it, Nina. I'm
<v Speaker 3>just reading it.
<v Speaker 1>But yeah, Castle Rock, if you had some power outages,
<v Speaker 1>it's literally because a couple of squirrels.
<v Speaker 2>And this happened to me one time in my high school.
<v Speaker 1>Middle of the day, I was in gym class, and
<v Speaker 1>power went out, and it was because a squirrel caused
<v Speaker 1>an explosion.
<v Speaker 2>This apparently happens sometimes.
<v Speaker 3>What is going on? Does the power lines taste good
<v Speaker 3>or something? It might.
<v Speaker 2>There's something, I think, that attracts them.
<v Speaker 1>And the thing is, is Core Electric said that they've
<v Speaker 1>worked with wildlife programs to try to keep critters and
<v Speaker 1>birds out of their equipment.
<v Speaker 3>Well, yeah, they're the ones that reach out to the
<v Speaker 3>squirrel family. They're trying. They're talking with them. They are. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
<v Speaker 2>But they've done everything that they're supposed to do. But
<v Speaker 2>you know what?
<v Speaker 1>Sometimes those persistent little squirrels, they're going to wiggle their
<v Speaker 1>way through.
<v Speaker 3>Persistent little suckers, huh? Yeah. Well, that's a bummer for
<v Speaker 3>the squirrels and a hilarious story. I'm sorry for.
<v Speaker 2>Laughing to the squirrel family that lost their two loved ones.
<v Speaker 3>I know. Poor squirrels. Nina, I want to tell you
<v Speaker 3>Capri Sun has been a favorite drink of children for
<v Speaker 3>decades now. Forever. It's one of the best drinks, but
<v Speaker 3>it's gone in a sip, which sucks. Capri Sun is
<v Speaker 3>finally listening to what everyone has been telling them to
<v Speaker 3>do essentially since the dawn of time. Make the pouches work. bigger.
<v Speaker 3>I love it. And guess what? They're finally doing it.
<v Speaker 3>They are now. Yes. They're now testing out a new
<v Speaker 3>pouch called the big pouch aptly named, right? I mean, what? Yeah.
<v Speaker 3>They really went out on a limb with that one. However,
<v Speaker 3>this one is nine inches tall and six inches wide,
<v Speaker 3>and it can hold 20 ounces of the drink, which
<v Speaker 3>is three times the amount of the original. And I
<v Speaker 3>love that. The weird thing about this is they're also refillable. Oh,
<v Speaker 3>that's interesting to me. And When you do buy these,
<v Speaker 3>you get a coupon for more Capri Suns with each purchase.
<v Speaker 3>And these ones are only $ 6 each, okay?
<v Speaker 1>Okay, so if this is refillable, I like that because,
<v Speaker 1>you know, the idea of a bigger plastic pouch just
<v Speaker 1>feels very wasteful to me.
<v Speaker 3>Yes.
<v Speaker 1>But because they are refillable, I'm assuming they want you
<v Speaker 1>to refill it with more Capri Sun.
<v Speaker 2>Are they starting to sell that by the jug now?
<v Speaker 2>How does that work?
<v Speaker 3>I don't know yet. This is all in the test
<v Speaker 3>market right now. So I'm not sure. I'll reach out
<v Speaker 3>to Capri Sun. You know what? We'll reach out. Please do.
<v Speaker 3>I do like this idea. Like I said, I mean,
<v Speaker 3>I'll even have a Capri Sun as an adult. I
<v Speaker 3>love them. I think they're great. They taste really good.
<v Speaker 3>But it's literally one swig and they're gone. So if
<v Speaker 3>you're going to get a bigger one, I don't know.
<v Speaker 3>I'm all for it. I like that. I do think
<v Speaker 3>that you have to buy the Capri Suns. Yeah, I'm
<v Speaker 3>reading this right now. You have to buy the Capri
<v Speaker 3>Suns with the container. So the big pouch is empty.
<v Speaker 3>I don't know if I like that.
<v Speaker 2>And then you buy, like, a jug of Capri Sun.
<v Speaker 3>Yes, that's essentially what they're trying to get you to do.
<v Speaker 3>I don't know. I kind of wanted it filled to
<v Speaker 3>begin with.
<v Speaker 1>Well, you know, if it's refillable, you could add a
<v Speaker 1>little extra something in with your Capri Sun.
<v Speaker 2>I'm just saying. Make it a party.
<v Speaker 3>Nina.
<v Speaker 2>Anyway.
<v Speaker 3>You don't think we've done that already? Come on. We've
<v Speaker 3>been doing that for years, too. All right.
<v Speaker 1>Okay, the third thing you need to know is the
<v Speaker 1>first true snowfall has officially hit Colorado. I hate to
<v Speaker 1>say it, but over in Leadville, Mount Massive... It was
<v Speaker 1>covered this week, and while that seems a little crazy
<v Speaker 1>down here in Denver, because yesterday was 90. I know
<v Speaker 1>today it's going to be cooled down a little bit,
<v Speaker 1>but yesterday was still pretty hot.
<v Speaker 2>But yeah, typically the.
<v Speaker 1>First snowfall in Colorado for Mount Massive and the first 14ers,
<v Speaker 1>it happens late August, and now the third week of September,
<v Speaker 1>it's already late.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, it's a little concerning, but it's on trend.
<v Speaker 3>We've talked about how this has been like the hottest
<v Speaker 3>record or hottest summer on record for Colorado. I love snow.
<v Speaker 3>I don't know. I'm in the minority here. I absolutely
<v Speaker 3>adore snow. I love when we get massive amounts of it.
<v Speaker 3>I miss it. So this makes me very happy. You're excited.
<v Speaker 2>You're ready for it.
<v Speaker 3>I hate to say the cliche, but Nina, we need
<v Speaker 3>the moisture. We need it.
<v Speaker 2>Okay, Dad. Fine.
<v Speaker 1>Paris Jackson, the daughter of Michael Jackson, is requesting that
<v Speaker 1>Michael's estate pay $ 1 million.
<v Speaker 2>For attorney fees, but they don't want to. This story
<v Speaker 2>is really interesting.
<v Speaker 1>So Michael Jackson's estate is run by one person right now.
<v Speaker 2>His name is John Branca. He's an entertainment attorney.
<v Speaker 1>And he tried to give himself and a couple other
<v Speaker 1>lawyers on the team a $ 625, 000 bonus.
<v Speaker 2>Nice guy.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah.
<v Speaker 1>And Paris was like, uh-uh, I don't think so. She objected,
<v Speaker 1>took him to court, and she won that case. But
<v Speaker 1>now she wants her legal fees for that covered with $ 1.
<v Speaker 2>16 million.
<v Speaker 3>Wow.
<v Speaker 1>And now the estate is arguing that no way those
<v Speaker 1>fees are way too high.
<v Speaker 2>We'll give you something, but not over a million dollars.
<v Speaker 3>Hmm.
<v Speaker 2>I know this case is so weird.
<v Speaker 3>Why did John get to run the estate? First of all,
<v Speaker 3>I want to know more about him. Why is he
<v Speaker 3>in charge? Why did it not go to his children?
<v Speaker 1>If you think about Michael Jackson's family, he probably felt
<v Speaker 1>that his family wasn't capable of handling his estate in
<v Speaker 1>that way.
<v Speaker 3>I get that, but it's his kids. That's different than
<v Speaker 3>his parents.
<v Speaker 1>Well, his kids are beneficiaries of the estate. They still
<v Speaker 1>do get some money from that, but they were still
<v Speaker 1>very much children when he passed away, so they couldn't
<v Speaker 1>handle it at that point. So it went to this guy,
<v Speaker 1>this entertainment attorney, John Branca, and he's still on it
<v Speaker 1>because he was there from the get. So it's just
<v Speaker 1>a whole weird thing, and now that Paris... And all
<v Speaker 1>of the children, the Jackson children, they are adults. You
<v Speaker 1>would think that maybe it could have been handed over
<v Speaker 1>to them. But that was probably not something that was
<v Speaker 1>written in the original deal. And so it's nearly impossible
<v Speaker 1>for them to have things switched over.
<v Speaker 3>Well, and if you think about it, Michael did die
<v Speaker 3>as a relatively young man. He was like 50 or 51.
<v Speaker 3>So he still probably thought. He had some life to
<v Speaker 3>live and go and things like that. It's a sad situation.
<v Speaker 2>It really is.
<v Speaker 1>But it's just weird that she had to sue his
<v Speaker 1>lawyers because they wanted a pay bump. And now she's
<v Speaker 1>paying for her lawyers by suing.
<v Speaker 2>I don't know.
<v Speaker 1>It's just a whole messed up case. So Paris Jackson
<v Speaker 1>dealing with a lot over there.
<v Speaker 3>Everybody's suing everybody. Well, Nina, if you ever think you're
<v Speaker 3>too old to live out a childhood dream, you are wrong.
<v Speaker 3>You can really do. Anything you put your mind to.
<v Speaker 3>And this man, a 48-year-old man named Justin Buzzard, is
<v Speaker 3>living proof of that. Buzzard, who is a pastor by day,
<v Speaker 3>has just recently made his college football debut.
<v Speaker 2>Okay.
<v Speaker 3>What? He's with the San Jose City College Jaguars. And
<v Speaker 3>it has been 30 years since Justin had last played
<v Speaker 3>a snap of football because, I don't know, Injuries unfortunately
<v Speaker 3>shut him down in his playing dreams, or so he thought, Nina.
<v Speaker 3>Buzzard said that a viral video of a 60-year-old cancer
<v Speaker 3>survivor trying to play D3 football after he went into
<v Speaker 3>remission inspired him to give it another shot. He was
<v Speaker 3>quoted saying, look, if you're not risking, you're rusting. First
<v Speaker 3>of all, love that quote. He is now the oldest
<v Speaker 3>active college football player. He's married and has three kids.
<v Speaker 3>He plays defensive end for the Jaguars. And where's number 48?
<v Speaker 3>Why does he wear number 48, Nina? Because he just
<v Speaker 3>turned 48 this month.
<v Speaker 2>Wow.
<v Speaker 1>I mean, good for him. But like 48 years old
<v Speaker 1>playing college football.
<v Speaker 2>That's insane.
<v Speaker 3>Crazy. The fact that he can even like keep up
<v Speaker 3>with these other 18 to 21 year olds is wild.
<v Speaker 3>But this is also for every man in the entire
<v Speaker 3>world that has looked at a team and been like,
<v Speaker 3>I bet I could still suit up. Or if coach
<v Speaker 3>would have put me in fourth quarter, we'd have been
<v Speaker 3>state champs. So good for you, Justin. Hats off to you, man.
<v Speaker 3>Stay healthy. And that is a sweet dream that a
<v Speaker 3>man is realizing 30 years later.
<v Speaker 2>His kids are all in the stand. That's so cute.
<v Speaker 3>I love it. They said his wife was in the
<v Speaker 3>stand watching him play too. Like it's an adorable little story.
<v Speaker 2>That's good.
<v Speaker 1>An actress, Amanda Seyfried, is getting a divorce after nine
<v Speaker 1>years of marriage. She and her husband, Thomas, are calling
<v Speaker 1>it quits, but unlike most divorces, especially in Hollywood, this
<v Speaker 1>is really, really peaceful, almost as peaceful as it gets.
<v Speaker 1>They released a joint statement together about their divorce, saying that,'
<v Speaker 1>We' ve been separated for a while, and it's been proven
<v Speaker 1>to be the right move for us in our family unit.
<v Speaker 1>We've got each other forever, and it's good.' So the
<v Speaker 1>fact that they even said, like, we still got each
<v Speaker 1>other forever. We're still going to be part of each
<v Speaker 1>other's lives. They're just separated, not romantically together.
<v Speaker 2>That's great.
<v Speaker 1>I mean, they share two kids anyway. They have two
<v Speaker 1>kids together. So you got a co-parent. Yeah, you are
<v Speaker 1>going to be a part of each other's lives forever,
<v Speaker 1>especially when kids are involved. But even separately outside of
<v Speaker 1>that statement, they have both spoken very highly of each other.
<v Speaker 2>And so this, I guess, is a good thing.
<v Speaker 1>You don't normally look at divorce as a good thing,
<v Speaker 1>but this is a good thing.
<v Speaker 3>But I guess this is as mature as it gets
<v Speaker 3>to when two people kind of realize, hey, we are
<v Speaker 3>better off being in separate lives. We still have the children,
<v Speaker 3>so we can co-parent. I mean, so many people, I
<v Speaker 3>feel like, try to force a marriage to work just
<v Speaker 3>because they have kids. So good on Amanda and her
<v Speaker 3>husband to understand, hey, you know what? We're better separate.
<v Speaker 3>We will have the kids forever, and we can co-parent.
<v Speaker 3>I like it.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, a lot of people can learn from that. I
<v Speaker 2>love that. Good for them.
<v Speaker 1>So Josh, yesterday you were talking about reading and how
<v Speaker 1>it's like six minutes a day of reading can actually
<v Speaker 1>do a lot for you mentally.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah.
<v Speaker 2>And I was.
<v Speaker 1>Thinking about that, and I'm like, man, I still have
<v Speaker 1>my Denver Public Library card.
<v Speaker 2>Good for you. I do.
<v Speaker 3>I have one.
<v Speaker 1>But I have not stepped into an actual library in forever.
<v Speaker 2>How about you? When's the last time you were in
<v Speaker 2>a library?
<v Speaker 3>Oh, five years old, I believe.
<v Speaker 2>Right?
<v Speaker 3>No, I don't know. It's been a minute for me, too.
<v Speaker 3>But I found an interesting story. Have you, first of all,
<v Speaker 3>let me ask you, have you ever rented something and
<v Speaker 3>forgotten to give it back? It could be a book, DVD,
<v Speaker 3>I know Blockbuster was a thing way back when.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, for sure.
<v Speaker 3>All of it.
<v Speaker 1>I feel like I still have like a old Netflix CD,
<v Speaker 1>DVD case.
<v Speaker 3>See, exactly. So for me, I remember specifically, I have
<v Speaker 3>a Blockbuster VHS tape of The Rookie with Dennis Quaid.
<v Speaker 3>It's a baseball movie. And then when we wanted to
<v Speaker 3>return it, that Blockbuster closed down. So we just kept it.
<v Speaker 3>So this is like, 15 years overdue. Well, this story
<v Speaker 3>coming out, a man named John Hansen has a massive
<v Speaker 3>bookshelf and he has a book on there that is
<v Speaker 3>held together with tape on the spine. It doesn't, you know,
<v Speaker 3>stand out to anybody, right? This guy had a book
<v Speaker 3>that was overdue for a Concord Public Library by 48,220 days.
<v Speaker 3>Otherwise known as 132 years overdue. And he just found
<v Speaker 3>this out this last week.
<v Speaker 1>How?
<v Speaker 3>That would amass a fine of $ 12, 055. that the library
<v Speaker 3>could have charged this man because of this overdue library book.
<v Speaker 3>He says he doesn't even know where he got it.
<v Speaker 3>He said his father was a resident of Concord and
<v Speaker 3>that he might have gotten the book literally 132 years ago. However,
<v Speaker 3>when he did finally bring this book back, the library said, hey,
<v Speaker 3>you know what? We're not going to charge you because A,
<v Speaker 3>You're not the one who originally checked this book out,
<v Speaker 3>so thank God for John, right? $ 12, 000 for an overdue book? No.
<v Speaker 1>I mean, we've seen these stories before of overdue. It
<v Speaker 1>was like 20 years, and then they paid.
<v Speaker 2>They did.
<v Speaker 1>It was essentially a donation, but paid the library like
<v Speaker 1>$ 500 or something like that.
<v Speaker 3>Good for them. Which is good, but- Over a century?
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, that's insane. When you first said 132 years.
<v Speaker 2>I was like, how old is this man? What's his secret?
<v Speaker 3>What do you mean? This guy's 164. No, but the
<v Speaker 3>volume itself of the book is called the Century Illustrated
<v Speaker 3>Monthly Magazine. So I guess it's a magazine slash book,
<v Speaker 3>but it was printed in September of 1894.
<v Speaker 2>That's insane.
<v Speaker 1>I don't even know how that happens. But like you said,
<v Speaker 1>if his dad did it before, but it's all taped
<v Speaker 1>up and stuff. At that point, why would you even
<v Speaker 1>take it back to the library?
<v Speaker 3>Just to say you did it. You're a good man.
<v Speaker 3>That's good karma, right?
<v Speaker 1>I think so. And honestly, I feel like that book,
<v Speaker 1>he should Google it. I feel like it would be
<v Speaker 1>worth some money. And then maybe he could sell it
<v Speaker 1>and then donate that money to the library.
<v Speaker 3>Okay, full circle there. I get it.
<v Speaker 2>Oh, it's sweet.
<v Speaker 1>Three things you need to know before you go into
<v Speaker 1>the office, like the Denver Broncos teaming up with local schools.
<v Speaker 1>to battle absenteeism in school.
<v Speaker 2>That's a big word. I know. I was like, is
<v Speaker 2>that a real word?
<v Speaker 3>You need to go to school to learn that word.
<v Speaker 2>I know, it is. I Googled it. That's a real word.
<v Speaker 1>Okay, cool.
<v Speaker 3>Cool, cool, cool.
<v Speaker 2>They're trying to avoid kids being absent to class.
<v Speaker 3>I love it. That's cool. That's a really cool thing.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, so they're taking from the Cleveland Browns, which found
<v Speaker 1>success for a similar program over in Ohio.
<v Speaker 2>And we have.
<v Speaker 1>53 schools locally across 13 districts. that have already signed
<v Speaker 1>up for this program with the Denver Broncos. And when
<v Speaker 1>kids reach certain attendance goals, they are rewarded with a
<v Speaker 1>variety of different things like celebrations held with the Broncos cheerleaders.
<v Speaker 2>Miles comes by.
<v Speaker 1>They have current and former Broncos players that come into
<v Speaker 1>the schools to hang out with them, talk with them,
<v Speaker 1>and take pictures with them. And this has worked at
<v Speaker 1>other schools in different states. So The Broncos and schools
<v Speaker 1>here in Denver and in Aurora and everywhere else, they
<v Speaker 1>are excited to see the results because I guess it's
<v Speaker 1>kind of been a problem.
<v Speaker 2>Kids just not showing up to class.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, this was something that always scared me as a kid.
<v Speaker 3>I literally never ditched classes. I never didn't show up.
<v Speaker 3>I was very scared. But I understand there are many
<v Speaker 3>different reasons as to why people can't make it to
<v Speaker 3>school or to class. And I understand it's not always
<v Speaker 3>just ditching. There's several different reasons. So I get that.
<v Speaker 3>This is a good thing. This is something... As long
<v Speaker 3>as the kids are in school, they will keep on learning.
<v Speaker 3>And that is huge, especially for the state of Colorado.
<v Speaker 2>Absolutely. So I'm happy the Broncos are doing that.
<v Speaker 3>Nina, I don't know what the heck is going on
<v Speaker 3>in Japan or what they're putting in the water here,
<v Speaker 3>but those people are doing it right. For the first
<v Speaker 3>time in recorded history, they have now surpassed 100,000 centurions. Now,
<v Speaker 3>what that means, they have... over 100,000 people at the
<v Speaker 3>age of 100 or older in their census. That's nearly
<v Speaker 3>up 8,000 from last year. And then it has continually,
<v Speaker 3>continually risen over for the 56th straight year that people
<v Speaker 3>are getting older and older and older there. Their average
<v Speaker 3>life expectancy is now 84, while the U.S. 's is
<v Speaker 3>just 79.
<v Speaker 2>Wow, that is impressive.
<v Speaker 3>I know, I don't love that because I want to
<v Speaker 3>be into the century mark. I think that'd be so
<v Speaker 3>cool to live past that, to the century mark and beyond.
<v Speaker 3>This is interesting, though, because Japan is living so much
<v Speaker 3>older and the aging population is kind of straining the
<v Speaker 3>economy because no one's having kids there. This is an
<v Speaker 3>actual thing. They need to start kind of getting freaky
<v Speaker 3>again and fix this ASAP because they are going to
<v Speaker 3>start outliving the babies being born. Interesting. And, you know,
<v Speaker 3>Japan actually has a thing where American men... can go
<v Speaker 3>to Japan and essentially get with Japanese women.
<v Speaker 2>To have babies?
<v Speaker 3>So that they can have babies and repopulate Japan. Like,
<v Speaker 3>this is that much of a problem. They're like, come
<v Speaker 3>to Japan and get us pregnant, essentially.
<v Speaker 2>Wow, I did not know that.
<v Speaker 3>It's a crazy thing, but it's an incentive for a
<v Speaker 3>lot of people. I don't know why, but hey, you
<v Speaker 3>know what? Go have kids in Japan. It's great.
<v Speaker 2>Travel and go have some babies. All right. This is insane.
<v Speaker 1>Paramount Studios in California, they've all of a sudden thrown
<v Speaker 1>their hands up and they have threatened to move out
<v Speaker 1>of Hollywood. Now, we're talking like the Paramount Studios. Yes.
<v Speaker 3>Big time.
<v Speaker 2>It's huge. And not only has it.
<v Speaker 1>Been there historically just for a long time, it also
<v Speaker 1>provides a lot of jobs in California. So- The reason
<v Speaker 1>why this is kind of all being thrown out there
<v Speaker 1>is Paramount has been negotiating with California officials. And they're saying,
<v Speaker 1>you know what, we might just move, forget you guys,
<v Speaker 1>because Paramount has pressure to merge with Warner Brothers. And California,
<v Speaker 1>the state, they're like, you better do this to make
<v Speaker 1>some money. Otherwise, why are we even keeping you here?
<v Speaker 1>So they're kind of fighting with each other back and forth.
<v Speaker 3>Dang.
<v Speaker 1>And yesterday it was reported that, yeah, Paramount is leaving,
<v Speaker 1>but then they kind of rolled back on that.
<v Speaker 2>But supposedly we will know within the.
<v Speaker 1>Next 48 hours if Paramount Studios is indeed staying in California.
<v Speaker 1>And this is a huge deal because, like, this is Hollywood.
<v Speaker 1>This is LA we're talking about.
<v Speaker 3>Essentially every major star has done something with Paramount at
<v Speaker 3>Paramount Studios. They have Studio 42. Like, this is a massive,
<v Speaker 3>massive company. heart of California history, not just movie making history,
<v Speaker 3>but the state itself. Yeah.
<v Speaker 1>Unreal.
<v Speaker 3>It is.
<v Speaker 2>So I don't know. We'll see. Maybe they can move
<v Speaker 2>to Colorado.
<v Speaker 1>I mean, we have the Sundance Film Festival now, so
<v Speaker 1>bring them on over. Josh, last week we created it
<v Speaker 1>for the first time and it's back this week. It's
<v Speaker 1>a weekly thing that we're trying on our website. It's
<v Speaker 1>called the Den 10.
<v Speaker 3>I love this. It's the 10 biggest things plus a
<v Speaker 3>few that are going on this weekend in Denver. Right, Nina?
<v Speaker 1>Yes, exactly. You can find it all at Mix100. com. If
<v Speaker 1>you're unsure of weekend plans, you don't know what's going
<v Speaker 1>on around town, don't worry.
<v Speaker 2>We did the research for you. We found all the
<v Speaker 2>best stuff.
<v Speaker 1>And we put it together on one page so that
<v Speaker 1>you can just make a fun weekend for yourself.
<v Speaker 3>Well, yeah, and let's face it. I mean, I have
<v Speaker 3>a girlfriend, you have a husband. Every time you're just
<v Speaker 3>sitting at home, you're like, what do you want to
<v Speaker 3>do this weekend? And you get the, I don't know,
<v Speaker 3>what do you want to do this weekend? Exactly. That
<v Speaker 3>doesn't have to exist ever again. You can literally look
<v Speaker 3>at multiple really fun things, and a lot of these
<v Speaker 3>are either really cheap or completely free. for you and
<v Speaker 3>the fam to do over the weekend. And I, for one,
<v Speaker 3>love that because I'm trying to save some money, you know?
<v Speaker 2>Yes, exactly.
<v Speaker 1>Like, if you live in Arvada, Park Fest is going on.
<v Speaker 1>It's one of the last dates for that. It's just
<v Speaker 1>live music in the park, right?
<v Speaker 3>It's fantastic.
<v Speaker 2>So that's a free one.
<v Speaker 1>You can get all the info at Mix100. com on that.
<v Speaker 1>That's happening tomorrow on Friday. What's happening Saturday? Let's pick
<v Speaker 1>something from the list.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, this is awesome. I can tell you right here,
<v Speaker 3>Bear Creek Tasting. If you want to go up to
<v Speaker 3>the high country for a little bit, hit the mountains.
<v Speaker 3>Go taste some great spirits. You got wine and whiskey
<v Speaker 3>tastings there. That's happening Saturday and Sunday this weekend as well. Nice.
<v Speaker 1>And again on Sunday, yoga in the park. They choose
<v Speaker 1>different parks every Sunday to do some yoga. And this
<v Speaker 1>weekend it's happening at Wash Park on Sunday. So you
<v Speaker 1>can get all the info on these events and so
<v Speaker 1>many more. There's way more than 10 on this.
<v Speaker 2>So there's like 20.
<v Speaker 3>We kind of outdid ourselves a little bit. I'm not
<v Speaker 3>going to lie. We kind of did our homework and
<v Speaker 3>went way above and beyond. So pat ourselves on the back.
<v Speaker 2>We absolutely did. Yes.
<v Speaker 1>Check out the Den 10. It is up right now
<v Speaker 1>at mix100. com. And coming up, Josh needs to talk about
<v Speaker 1>a toilet situation. I don't know about this, Josh, but
<v Speaker 1>we'll see. Now, Josh, you're like, hey, we should talk
<v Speaker 1>about this. It has to do with a toilet for insects.
<v Speaker 1>And I'm like, First of all, what are you talking about?
<v Speaker 3>I don't even know what I'm talking about half the time.
<v Speaker 3>I just open my mouth and let them flow. But hey,
<v Speaker 3>this is the thing. We have all read the book,
<v Speaker 3>Everybody Poops, right? Everybody does, okay? And I know it's
<v Speaker 3>taboo to talk about, but researchers do a lot of
<v Speaker 3>research with different things in this planet, okay? Researchers have
<v Speaker 3>now built a 3D printed water repellent funnel that collects
<v Speaker 3>mosquito waste without harming these little insects, okay? So are
<v Speaker 3>you with me?
<v Speaker 1>Kind of. My brain is already like, I never even
<v Speaker 1>thought about mosquito waste before.
<v Speaker 3>No, you're right.
<v Speaker 2>I'm sure that they do, because like you said, everybody poops,
<v Speaker 2>but okay.
<v Speaker 3>Look, I'm not joking. This toilet allows experts to sequence
<v Speaker 3>the genetic material, allowing them to know what diseases could
<v Speaker 3>be spreading from these mosquitoes. Now, this is the thing. Look,
<v Speaker 3>this is not just for fun. It's an actual research experiment.
<v Speaker 3>product coming underway right now. Now the 3D printed thing
<v Speaker 3>collects their waste. Waste from wild mosquitoes around New Jersey
<v Speaker 3>was found to contain complete West Nile virus genome along
<v Speaker 3>with other rare viruses and 35 kinds of parasites. So
<v Speaker 3>this is why they're doing it. You understand mosquitoes carry
<v Speaker 3>a lot of diseases because they like to drink our blood.
<v Speaker 2>Right, exactly.
<v Speaker 3>That's exactly what they do. So it sounds strange and
<v Speaker 3>I understand this like having a literal toilet being printed
<v Speaker 3>for mosquitoes to do their business. Who even thinks of that?
<v Speaker 2>I know.
<v Speaker 3>Like truly who thinks of that? For real. But there's
<v Speaker 3>always a way about this. It sounds strange, but research
<v Speaker 3>believed that this toilet technique could be more efficient than
<v Speaker 3>the traditional mosquito surveillance and tracking thing. How do you
<v Speaker 3>track a mosquito?
<v Speaker 1>I don't even know because they're so tiny. It's not
<v Speaker 1>like birds where you can put a little thing on
<v Speaker 1>their foot.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, you put a tag on them. No, you're not
<v Speaker 3>tagging mosquitoes trying to read what they have. You can't
<v Speaker 3>put them on a leash or anything, but they have
<v Speaker 3>these lab testing methods that only hunt for one suspected
<v Speaker 3>pathogen at the same time. This one actually hunts for multiple.
<v Speaker 3>They're getting more done with each each time they use
<v Speaker 3>the restroom. Let's just say that, okay? Okay. So if
<v Speaker 3>you can get a thousand mosquitoes to use the restroom,
<v Speaker 3>you know, a couple times a day or whatever.
<v Speaker 2>In these funnels.
<v Speaker 3>In this little funnel. Think of a little tiny, teeny,
<v Speaker 3>tiny 3D printed toilet for them to read the newspaper
<v Speaker 3>and do their business.
<v Speaker 2>Right.
<v Speaker 3>It's great. And look, you're probably going to be able
<v Speaker 3>to save lives from this, you know, because you don't
<v Speaker 3>want to get West Nile virus. You can be finding
<v Speaker 3>cures for this stuff. And that's what it's for. It's
<v Speaker 3>not just to watch these little guys die.
<v Speaker 2>Do their thing.
<v Speaker 3>Go number two. Yeah.
<v Speaker 1>But mosquitoes, I mean, mosquitoes, like you said, they do
<v Speaker 1>carry some pretty major, pretty bad diseases. So while this
<v Speaker 1>is silly, like a 3D printed toilet for mosquitoes, question
<v Speaker 1>mark what?
<v Speaker 3>It sounds so dumb.
<v Speaker 2>It is important. It's for important research. So you know what?
<v Speaker 1>Thank you to the scientists who decided they needed to
<v Speaker 1>make a mosquito toilet.
<v Speaker 3>Watch them poop.
<v Speaker 1>Josh, we're wrapping up the show right now. It is
<v Speaker 1>time to admit our wrongs of the day. What did
<v Speaker 1>you get wrong today?
<v Speaker 3>You know what? I'm not only the only one that
<v Speaker 3>got this wrong. The entire United States is getting this wrong. Japan,
<v Speaker 3>we talked earlier, they are doing it right. They have
<v Speaker 3>over 100,000 people living right now that are over 100
<v Speaker 3>years old. And their median age is so much older
<v Speaker 3>than the U.S.'s. I don't understand. We have got to
<v Speaker 3>figure this out because I'm trying to live to be 120, okay?
<v Speaker 3>I mean, I get it.
<v Speaker 2>I'm trying to get there. I get it, but it's
<v Speaker 2>because we love our fast food.
<v Speaker 3>We love our GMOs and our alcohol. I'm like, the
<v Speaker 3>Japanese are like, what are you guys doing?
<v Speaker 2>Come on now. They're like, look at these amateurs over here.
<v Speaker 3>We suck.
<v Speaker 2>So what I got wrong is I thought I got
<v Speaker 2>a really great deal.
<v Speaker 1>I think I'm being brainwashed with financials and money from
<v Speaker 1>the different makeup stores.
<v Speaker 4>You are.
<v Speaker 1>I thought I got a really good deal, seven items
<v Speaker 1>from the makeup store yesterday for $ 150, but that's actually absurd.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, no, you're crazy. So that's good, and I'm glad
<v Speaker 3>we learned that, because now I know not to trust you.
<v Speaker 2>No, for real. We cannot normalize that. That is not okay.
<v Speaker 3>Hashtag girl math.
<v Speaker 2>I know, for real.
<v Speaker 4>But thank you so much for joining Denver's Morning Show
<v Speaker 4>with Nina and Josh.
