[SPEAKER_01]: Welcome to the baseball America fantasy podcast.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm your host James Anderson and got Jeff Ponce with me.
[SPEAKER_01]: Also got Jacob Rudner, B.A.'
[SPEAKER_01]: 's college writer, and Jacob also plays in RAS 30, which is one of the more famous private dynasty leagues out there.
[SPEAKER_01]: So welcome, guys.
[SPEAKER_01]: Today, we're gonna cover the,
[SPEAKER_01]: fully updated top 100 FYPD rankings that I released on the site early this morning Wednesday the 23rd and we're going to jump around through the first four tiers or so give some targets maybe give a couple fades and we're going to start things off into your one and Jeff you were the the last guy that got to pick your your target in this tier here um
[SPEAKER_01]: So I don't know you didn't get to pick your first choice, but who's someone you want to pump up from from to your one here a six player to you?
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's funny because like I probably would have gone with with Jackson Flora.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think we saw a lot of the reasons that Jacob and I talked away we did throughout the winner in the spring about Flora and what his potential was, especially in a pro, you know, dev environment and just, you know, the type of stuff, the type of growth that we'd seen from him as a pitcher and just the outlier stuff.
[SPEAKER_00]: That said,
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to go back to Rock Chilowski a little bit here.
[SPEAKER_00]: I know that we've dropped them down in the tiers.
[SPEAKER_00]: You had them six in the rankings, which I would suspect is probably going to be one of the lower rankings on Rock.
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think it is necessarily wrong.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think when you're looking at the top of this draft, you can kind of approach it from a bunch of different mentalities.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think when you're talking about just pure upside of like power speed numbers and could this guy develop into a top five-round pick at a cat with me.
[SPEAKER_00]: In fantasy within four or five years,
[SPEAKER_00]: I think the guys that are ahead of them probably have a better case for that.
[SPEAKER_00]: I will say I think rock floor is really high when you dig into the underlying data.
[SPEAKER_00]: Despite the fact that the big 10 competition isn't great, it played some good competition early in the season.
[SPEAKER_00]: He hits the ball really hard.
[SPEAKER_00]: There's contact skills.
[SPEAKER_00]: That kind of transcends all pitch types.
[SPEAKER_00]: So I think the floor is really high and I know we talked about this last week.
[SPEAKER_00]: position in the lineup, his expectations and responsibilities are different that potentially this is a guy that could run a little bit more because from a straight foot speed perspective, it's in both average to plus runner.
[SPEAKER_00]: He's not plotting or slow, just a matter of maybe getting that green line a little bit more and the game being a little different.
[SPEAKER_00]: So I think depending upon
[SPEAKER_00]: how much he runs is going to dictate how valuable he is.
[SPEAKER_00]: I still think within this tier, there's a lot of safety here.
[SPEAKER_00]: And I was talking about this with our editor, off-air, before we came on here.
[SPEAKER_00]: But I think that with a guy like Rock, when you're doing real-life rankings, there's a certain higher percentage chances that he's like a 50, like an average regular, maybe higher than almost anybody in this tier.
[SPEAKER_00]: But when you're ranking for fantasy,
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, if rock is a bus, just kind of drop them.
[SPEAKER_00]: So like you're going, or the guys that you could have taken ahead of them.
[SPEAKER_00]: So you're really going for more of the upside, the power of the speed.
[SPEAKER_00]: So I understand why he's ranked where he is.
[SPEAKER_00]: But I do think like still a valuable player, a guy that, you know, could be useful and deeper fantasy leagues for a lot of years.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, no doubt.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, he's in that top tier.
[SPEAKER_01]: So I wouldn't argue with anyone that wanted to take rock first.
[SPEAKER_01]: Um, and I think you're right about the floor, uh, Jacob, who's your target from tier one.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I was responsible for snaking Jackson Flora from Jeff.
[SPEAKER_02]: I've said for a while, a long time, and I still feel this way pretty strongly that Jackson Flora had an argument to be the number one prospect in the 2026 draft class.
[SPEAKER_02]: I just think that his capacity is enormous when we've seen it a little bit already.
[SPEAKER_02]: As a pro, even though it was very tiny little sample size, obviously his junior season that UC Santa Barbara was historically successful.
[SPEAKER_02]: You hovered around a 1-ERA.
[SPEAKER_02]: Was it the shiniest season from a strikeout bat missing standpoint?
[SPEAKER_02]: maybe not, but I think that that would be doing it a disservice to limit his season and his success based on that one factor, because he also showed a tremendous arsenal both in college and in his pro debut.
[SPEAKER_02]: It just in the last year, this is somebody who's developed a plus change up, his fastball has evolved a little bit.
[SPEAKER_02]: I think it's gone from something that was a lot of power
[SPEAKER_02]: Same power and much improved shape getting towards that kind of plus line especially because of the velocity And then he can spin the baseball like crazy there are multiple breaking balls from a lower arm slot He manipulate the baseball You know in a number of different ways and I think that the giants will be able to continue to help him to kind of refine that arsenal I don't think he's done learning yet, so this is still a player who's gonna get better
[SPEAKER_02]: And I just think that, you know, you're talking about somebody's got a great chance to be a number two or a number three starter in the big leagues and that's a pretty easy sell at the top of an FYPD for me.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think the way that Flora finished the season is going to make a peeling pick kind of in that top three four range, even when we add in the international guys and there's just a varying like dynasty league to dynasty league.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think Jackson Flora is going to be treated a little differently, you know, points leagues.
[SPEAKER_01]: I definitely see him going first among these guys in many cases and there's just certain dynasty leagues where it's just harder fine pitching.
[SPEAKER_01]: where I think he's really going to stand out.
[SPEAKER_01]: My target from this first tier is Drew Burris of the A's and this is partially just because of where I think he'll go in FYPDs.
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think Burris is going to go top five in many FYPDs.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think he'll just be kind of sitting there right in the middle of the first round and I really like that.
[SPEAKER_01]: He walked more than he struck out all three years at Georgia Tech
[SPEAKER_01]: I think he will chip in double digit steals, but I think he could run even a little bit more and he didn't college.
[SPEAKER_01]: So I think it's like a five category skill set and OBQ leagues and maybe more of like a four or four and a half category skill set in batting average leagues, but Drew Burris, I just think he's a really safe pick here.
[SPEAKER_01]: And there's a bit more upside to me than with rock, but I think that's, you know, you could disagree on that.
[SPEAKER_01]: Let's head over to Tier 2 and Jacob gets to go first here.
[SPEAKER_01]: Jeff and I were talking before you happened on Jacob and like Tier 2 is a hot tier.
[SPEAKER_01]: There's a lot of players we like here who you're going to go with.
[SPEAKER_02]: So I just want to say that Jeff got in the last on the picking of who we were all gonna talk about and I actually did him the favor of leaving him.
[SPEAKER_02]: Zion rose, so I would have said Zion rose if I didn't know that Jeff wanted him.
[SPEAKER_02]: I went with Jared Greenlinger.
[SPEAKER_02]: I just thought at the time when the angels drafted him that was one of the best picks that they made in years just because it's such a high upside bat.
[SPEAKER_02]: He's gonna play center field, I think.
[SPEAKER_02]: He's a good athlete, it's great field ahead.
[SPEAKER_02]: And he's so raw.
[SPEAKER_02]: Grindlinger is not focused on being a full-time hitter ever yet, and there was a lot of talk going into the draft about whether or not the team that took him would need to keep him as a two-way player just because of his interest in pitching, and so I think that with the angels looking far more likely to limit him to the offensive side, he can just take off really quick, and I'm, you know, just a sucker for the young high-up side offensive play, who's
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I grew in Linger and I've got him ranked ahead of my target here in Tier 2 and I do think he will go, like, I would take him ahead of Bollerance of the of the Dodgers, but I kind of think Lerance has a better chance to sort of be there for me and round two, maybe then, then Linger does, but honestly, I don't know how people are going to value these guys from from league to league, but
[SPEAKER_01]: Lawrence is my pick just because you know, we're chasing upside.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think he arguably has a higher ceiling than some of the guys in tier one and it's just kind of, you know, the guy was the 40th pick in the draft.
[SPEAKER_01]: So how are people going to value this guy, but you know, athleticism.
[SPEAKER_01]: projectable frame like the power you can dream on for days.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean he's he's probably going to run more than than most cornering fielders.
[SPEAKER_01]: So I just think it's a ton to love with the rants.
[SPEAKER_01]: And this tier is just a hotspot.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean I want to have multiple ticks here to get some of these guys.
[SPEAKER_01]: Jeff, obviously the spoiler is out.
[SPEAKER_01]: You're taking that.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'll limit it on that.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and I think if you listen to the podcast last week, you know, this is arguably my favorite player in FYPD, probably would even be tier one for me.
[SPEAKER_00]: But, you know, I like the fact that probably just based on where he went, I think some people is probably apprehension of taking Royals prospects that he might be a decent value.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like, there might, you know, he could drop to the back end of the top 10, some leagues, especially as,
[SPEAKER_00]: We have three pretty big names, prominent names.
[SPEAKER_00]: They're going to come over from Japan.
[SPEAKER_00]: All the MPB guys are probably going to be ranked in the top 10.
[SPEAKER_00]: I would imagine where they're about.
[SPEAKER_00]: So he's a guy where I think there could be a lot of value.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I
[SPEAKER_00]: The thing I buy into with Zion Rose is just the plate skills and the athlete, you know, in college this year missed some time, but the splits were really even, I mean, he had four 16 against rightes for 19 against lefties had an 11 28 against lefties and 11 41 OPS.
[SPEAKER_00]: against right handers, the underlying data matches it, and then you go to his pro-day view, which was only what 71 it bats.
[SPEAKER_00]: So it wasn't a standardized sample size, like there's still some noise in this sample.
[SPEAKER_00]: But perform pretty well, 268 batting average 389 OBP, 729 OPS, then you look under the hood, 18.5% in zone miss,
[SPEAKER_00]: Excellent swing decisions, a 24.2% gap between a swing rate and it's Chase Ray, which is elite high heart rate hits the ball hard had a ball in pro ball with a wood bat that was one 11.3
[SPEAKER_00]: Some of the angles.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's the stuff that needs to improve.
[SPEAKER_00]: He does hit the ball hard.
[SPEAKER_00]: There's power here and I think there's enough plate skills for him to make adjustments and add a little loft get a little bit more vertical with a bad angle.
[SPEAKER_00]: And you know, be able to unlock a little bit more power potentially a little bit more pull side power.
[SPEAKER_00]: So that's kind of where the profile has to go, but on its face you can run.
[SPEAKER_00]: He can hit, he plays a position, you know, I think there's, I think there's some good value here is probably my favorite hitter among the college guys.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I think one thing that's really kind of stood out to me over the past like five, six, seven years of this is that the college hitters that have like maybe another level to get to are like some untapped potential.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like that seems almost be like where you want to look.
[SPEAKER_01]: And that's maybe the one thing that I don't like about Drew Burris is maybe that he's just kind of like, is there another level for him to get to in Pro Bowl, but like Zion Rose are like you both kind of outlined.
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, let's head to a quick break here, but when we come back, we're going to look at tier three and we're going to give two targets a piece from tier three.
[SPEAKER_01]: All right, we're back and I'm going to go first this time and the first target for me in two or three is Ben Blair who the raised grab I think they gave him like a 1.65 million bonus and this is a case where there's some like bias is being confirmed here and a little bit of an appeal to authority because I really like Ben Blair coming into the draft.
[SPEAKER_01]: And then when the rays took him, that was just like, oh man, this is perfect because I love the control, like he, you know, he's got some of the best control from the college ranks, and I just can't wait to see what they do with him.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's just like, it's a lot of pitches, and there's a lot of above average stuff they're at work with.
[SPEAKER_01]: And the rays, he's the highest college starter, the rays have taken in the draft.
[SPEAKER_01]: Actually, the only college start of the raise of taking in the top 100 since they took E and C more like six years ago or whatever.
[SPEAKER_01]: So for the raise to just be like, we got to get Ben Blair like we're going to give him a bonus.
[SPEAKER_01]: We haven't given to a college starter in years.
[SPEAKER_01]: I love that and I love the picture to begin with, so I'm just really excited to see what they do with him.
[SPEAKER_01]: And then Kevin Roberts.
[SPEAKER_01]: prep-out fielder that the Orioles gave one million to arguably the the best athlete in the whole class.
[SPEAKER_01]: And just has one of those frames where, I mean, there could just be ridiculous power, not too long from now, and there's speed.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I was really surprised that they got him for just a million dollars when I saw his woodbed data.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, he makes way more contact as better swing decisions than a lot of guys cut from this same sort of class.
[SPEAKER_01]: So,
[SPEAKER_01]: I love a Ben Blair as sort of like a middle of your FYPD, maybe you missed on like one of your other pitching targets, but I do think Ben Blair could have could have murdered just one of the best arms from this class and then Kevin Roberts just a big time lottery ticket.
[SPEAKER_00]: Let me pivot here and just throw a question back to you James on Roberts.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think similar types of profiles, athletes like.
[SPEAKER_00]: the way they were talked about him and Eric Booth Jr. Eric Booth Jr. obviously has been ranked.
[SPEAKER_00]: Much higher come out of the draft.
[SPEAKER_00]: Didn't have a great debut.
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know how much we have to take away from that.
[SPEAKER_00]: Do you feel like Robert's is kind of the value pick within that same sort of player archetype or player bucket?
[SPEAKER_00]: Or it's like, you know, you could take Eric Booth Jr. here or you can pivot back, you know, 20 picks and get Kevin Roberts with your second third pick or whatever.
[SPEAKER_00]: Is that kind of how you're attacking?
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and I actually have those guys actually in the same tier here.
[SPEAKER_01]: And it's just, it seems weird to do that when one guy got like seven times the bonus as the other guy, but, you know, we're chasing upside.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I just like the projection way more in Robert's profile than in Booth's profile.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like I think Booth's.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like it just the the body seems like almost close to fully formed and like the the swing needs some work like it just I can almost sort of see an a clear path to Robert's being a super star than booth, but I do have booth ahead, but they're on the same tier.
[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, I like that comparison there.
[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, Jeff, you get you get to think a couple targets here.
[SPEAKER_00]: All right, yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm shocked that Jacob didn't jump in and it starts stumping for his guy Ben Blair.
[SPEAKER_02]: I feel like we're gonna spend a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit of a
[SPEAKER_02]: four or five different pieces from 2025 where it's gushed over Ben Blair, so I'm a huge fan.
[SPEAKER_02]: I think that that is like a major target in an FYPD and it's for the same reasons that James said.
[SPEAKER_02]: Like it's very rare that you get the combination of release traits, power, control, pitchability, the ability to spin the baseball, like all of those things are present with Blair.
[SPEAKER_02]: And I actually think that he
[SPEAKER_02]: even still like with the rays kind of going out in a way to make a pick that they don't really make a lot he was still relatively high draft pick I still feel like he's underrated like this is somebody who I just think has the opportunity to take off and the worst case scenario is teams pretty good to me like if he ends up in a bullpen I I would feel pretty confident he's a successful reliever just with the stuff that he has going on right now and how unique he is
[SPEAKER_02]: Um, I'm a, I'm a really big, but Ben Blair fan.
[SPEAKER_02]: So I personally like if I had to pick a favorite pick that we're going to talk about on the show, I think it's that one.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and I'll just add in before I kind of jump into my guys.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think the thing that's interesting about him too, having done some work in the background on which types of pictures are most impacted by the jump from the minor league ball to the major league ball.
[SPEAKER_00]: We know how the ball's traveling and such, but still it's a better ball to throw especially if you're efficient with your backspin on your foreseen,
[SPEAKER_00]: He is above the thresholds that you can, that you're concerned about in terms of like losing some of that plane on the foreseen fastball.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like he's a really outlier, you know, low release height guy, especially when you adjusted for like high-dejusted VA, because he's willing to throw low in the zone with like that flatter fastball.
[SPEAKER_00]: So when he's throwing up high, it really eats the other part of it too is he's like got decent spin capacity for that profile, which allows him to like create that spin that like an arcade Anderson is going to have to kind of figure out how to get back.
[SPEAKER_00]: or with a college ball.
[SPEAKER_00]: So I think the adjustment here is probably a little bit cleaner because of the arm slot because of the type types of things that he does.
[SPEAKER_00]: We saw a guy like this, not as good, doesn't throw as hard, not as efficient, but like Cooper Jerpee in his first taste and the big leagues just looked really good.
[SPEAKER_00]: And you know, I think that's one of the reasons that I really just buy into this profile and just has a
[SPEAKER_00]: a higher likelihood of potentially starting Benjurpy ever did.
[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, I was a jerpy fan.
[SPEAKER_00]: Now, for my two guys in this tier, arguably, I love this tier.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think that this is where the money is going to be made in FYPDs, particularly in deeper leagues where you might have 5, 6, 7, 8 picks and you're drafting 100 or more players.
[SPEAKER_00]: This to me is where there's going to be some major wins.
[SPEAKER_00]: two guys I want to call out one being Ellie Lacelle who I've talked about a ton at this point you know Padre's pick Canadian high school guy the underlying data that he had was a good sample size on the showcase circuit was excellent
[SPEAKER_00]: really good bad to ball skills, good on base skills.
[SPEAKER_00]: And he's an excellent athlete.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think he's like a 70 runner, maybe better.
[SPEAKER_00]: And there's still some power projection here as well.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like his EV numbers were right in line with gradient versus.
[SPEAKER_00]: So, I look at a player like that.
[SPEAKER_00]: I also will say, Padres, maybe don't have the best development track record, but as far as the identification part of the process, particularly with young players, international guys, high school players, they had like, rather on that team has a great track record of really identifying good young players that are going to develop into something.
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, there's numerous of those players that obviously are now stars for the Washington Nationals that came over in that one so to trade.
[SPEAKER_00]: So I think what cell is really has blow up potential and had one of the best debuts of any high school player that did play it a full season level after the draft.
[SPEAKER_00]: So.
[SPEAKER_00]: all really, really good things.
[SPEAKER_00]: The other guy that I'm really into is Red Sox, pick Martin Shalar, S-H-E-L-A-R for those listening that don't see the name.
[SPEAKER_00]: He debuted as well.
[SPEAKER_00]: It was a short debut
[SPEAKER_00]: Really interesting athlete, there's some power projection in here as well that I really buy into a little bit riskier of a profile, but I think, you know, you look at a guy like Shalar and some of the comps I was getting from, you know, SEC schools that recruit and etc were like why I ain't for it.
[SPEAKER_00]: To me, he's one of the more high upside players that you're going to get out of the first, you know, outside of the first few tiers and has like real blow up potential to maybe develop into something really interesting within the next year or so.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, Shalar.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I saw the same things and same thing with Lacell.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, this is like the target tier.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, we could have each done like three or four targets.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I would have picked a lot of the guys that you guys are going to pick.
[SPEAKER_01]: Jacob's going to talk about two more guys that really love in this tier, a couple prep short stops.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, Connor Komo being the first one, another guy that I just kind of became obsessed with the lead up to the draft six foot four, a projectable shortstop body who has a solid field to hit, budding power and is still very young.
[SPEAKER_02]: He was 17 at the draft.
[SPEAKER_02]: I still think that just there are a number of different ways that are very accessible that I think he's going to continue to get better.
[SPEAKER_02]: I do think as I just said that he looks like somebody who will have a chance to stick at shortstop and those ingredients are pretty encouraging I think it's easy to dream of plus power here He's a solid athlete So I think that you know, just the the kind of body that you want to be drafting is probably the best way to put it And then Jayce Maddachinsky is my other one and it's kind of the same just a lot more raw.
[SPEAKER_02]: I
[SPEAKER_02]: Saw J. Smartachinsky in Jupiter at the WWE B.A.
[SPEAKER_02]: Championships in 2025 and it was a weird look.
[SPEAKER_02]: He was probably the most successful from accounting stats standpoint, player of the weekend, but like you would stand on the open side, stand on the first, up the first baseline, watch him hit.
[SPEAKER_02]: and it's like how is this guy a prospect because the swing was just so jacked up and raw at the time, but he can play shortstop at a high level.
[SPEAKER_02]: He's at least a plus runner maybe better than that in the future.
[SPEAKER_02]: I think that the actions that sort stop are like exactly what you're looking for for a guy who's going to be able to continue to play.
[SPEAKER_02]: Jeff is going to absolutely attack by his cat's tail right now.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's very distracting.
[SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, no, like this is this is the deepest project type demographic to me.
[SPEAKER_02]: I think I think Madame Chinsky, if you're taking him in your FYPD, it's because you're ready for the slow burn here and you're hoping that in years from now, this is a guy who's going to emerge, you know, and have all the tools kind of come together because there is admittedly a long way to go between what he was and how raw he is and what I think everybody is hoping he can be.
[SPEAKER_02]: If he gets there though, just between the athleticism and the ability to play short, the raw ability to hit the baseball, like I said, it didn't look pretty, but he did a lot of hitting throughout the year, and especially in the summer circuit.
[SPEAKER_02]: So he's intriguing.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's really hard to say with a guy like that.
[SPEAKER_02]: But I think once you get to this tier and range of your FYPD, you're kind of throwing darts anyway, and this is a good one to throw.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I actually wrote up Madaginski as another target in the article that's also up on B.A.
[SPEAKER_01]: right now.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I'd also throw out just before we move on Alex wine gardener, I'll feel it with a white socks like wine gardener and Madaginski, like they're both so raw and so tooled up that like they could easily spend all of next summer at the complex, but in the event that one of them does get bumped to single a
[SPEAKER_01]: and maybe looks like they're a better hitter than advertised, like their stock's just gonna skyrocket.
[SPEAKER_01]: So, love taking a shot on those prep tools you guys in this range.
[SPEAKER_01]: Before we move to Tier 4, does anyone have like a fade from any of the guys?
[SPEAKER_01]: We've been kind of skimming over.
[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, you know, not every single person that has been ranked ahead of these guys is someone that we're all super high on, but You know, I do like to kind of focus more on the the positives here, but if anyone has a fade from chiefs.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'll jump in.
[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know that like, it's hard for me to fade as a strong word.
[SPEAKER_02]: And I can see why somebody would like any of these players.
[SPEAKER_02]: I think that's important to say.
[SPEAKER_02]: Like these are all the way that I put into second ago is really how I feel about it.
[SPEAKER_02]: Like all of this is dart throw territory.
[SPEAKER_02]: And
[SPEAKER_02]: if any of these guys get like great good for you but there's an equal chance that they don't and so me not liking somebody is not necessarily reason for you to not like somebody but AJ Groscia has never been my cup of tea necessarily.
[SPEAKER_02]: I think that he's a corner outfielder who for as good a hitters he was in college.
[SPEAKER_02]: I think that he's kind of the type of
[SPEAKER_02]: back that always kind of leaves you wanting more.
[SPEAKER_02]: Like, he'll show you the power, but I don't know that he's going to get to that as often as you're going to want for a guy who's not going to play center field in the first place.
[SPEAKER_02]: I think he showed, you know, really good back to ball skills as an amateur, do those things translate with the way that he hits and kind of how it looks at the plate.
[SPEAKER_02]: As a pro, I have questions about that personally.
[SPEAKER_02]: So like to me, when you can start to conjure up enough of these negatives, just questions even.
[SPEAKER_02]: Like,
[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know that it's worth using your FYPD picks.
[SPEAKER_02]: So if I'm going to take a risk, if I'm going to take a risk in this range, agent Rossi is not the risk I want to take.
[SPEAKER_02]: That doesn't necessarily mean that he's a bad player and he didn't show some things in college because he did.
[SPEAKER_02]: He did get a great college career.
[SPEAKER_02]: But for me, that's not so much my flavor in an FYPD.
[SPEAKER_02]: Like I think there are better risks to take in this range than him.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I loved Grasher like the very beginning of the process and I was kind of surprised to see sort of how so so his his EVs were when I got to look at those, but yeah, I mean, definitely get that all right tier four.
[SPEAKER_01]: Jeff, I want you to lead us off with.
[SPEAKER_00]: I had one fade, too.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh yeah, go for a fade.
[SPEAKER_01]: Please, please.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I wanted to just throw a little bit more shade at Chuck and him.
[SPEAKER_00]: Look, Justin LeBron, this was the player that was so hyped up coming into the process.
[SPEAKER_00]: And I think the thing that people may be miss a little bit, too, is just, you know, what his performance was like, once SEC competition starts,
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, it's, it's just one of those things where like the numbers went down pretty significantly.
[SPEAKER_00]: So like in SEC, well, after there's some midweeks mixed in with this.
[SPEAKER_00]: So it's not all SEC, but that should only strengthen the case because they're not playing, you know, power for is often in midweeks, but two sixty three three fifty.
[SPEAKER_00]: and 462 over 43 games.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's what Justin LeBron hit from March 13th when they opened SEC play against Kentucky until the end of the college season.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's really bad.
[SPEAKER_00]: I know that sounds like serviceable from a professional standpoint.
[SPEAKER_00]: When you're talking about prospects in the SEC, as good as people say the SEC is, that's still really bad.
[SPEAKER_00]: Zone contact rates were
[SPEAKER_00]: 78.3, you know, that's a, that's a 21.7% misrate in the zone, in college baseball, that's really bad.
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, the swing decisions are fine.
[SPEAKER_00]: He's not like a huge chase guy, but it's also not great, like the gap there is only okay.
[SPEAKER_00]: And the EVs weren't like outstanding.
[SPEAKER_00]: His 90th percentile EV and remember this is with a metal bat and all the things that you can do to a metal bat to get higher EVs.
[SPEAKER_00]: was a 104.690th percentile.
[SPEAKER_00]: And I think as his first pro experience kind of came to pass, we saw a little bit more of that exposed, that the hit tool was pretty bad, that there are, there's a power and speed combination here, but the percentages of him getting to it are
[SPEAKER_00]: feeling similarly about that was an STC guy or crap now I'm drawing a blank who was um who was the vandy outfielder that the Dodgers took in the first round that never made it.
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, you know what I'm talking about?
[SPEAKER_02]: Yep.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, Jay, was it?
[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, it does.
[SPEAKER_01]: But we know what you're talking about.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, it was Jaren Kendall.
[SPEAKER_00]: Jaren Kendall.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
[SPEAKER_00]: Elite run.
[SPEAKER_00]: It feels very Jaren Kendall coded, where it's like, it's an SS got.
[SPEAKER_00]: We knew there were some questions.
[SPEAKER_00]: There's a ton of tools to buy into.
[SPEAKER_00]: That can get you a little excited.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, my God.
[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
[SPEAKER_00]: And then it's like, I don't know if this is actually going to work in Pro Bowl.
[SPEAKER_00]: He's not going to hit enough for any of those impact tools to speeden the power and fantasy to really play out.
[SPEAKER_00]: So that's one guy that I'm fading.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think he faded him enough, where he isn't in their rankings.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think makes a lot of sense.
[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe the risk is okay there.
[SPEAKER_00]: But he's still a guy that I think will probably hire for other people that I would throw up the caution, you know, yellow tape there to say, be careful.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I might not have even had to make him like a, he might not even have to be a fade if his surface stats at high A were decent, but he he had a 15 and a half percent swing strike right there and it's not it's kind of inconsistent like if you're down on a guy for how they performed in the SEC, then hitting well at high A late in the season doesn't really answer those questions.
[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, I think that all made sense and I just have to say.
[SPEAKER_02]: Let's say real quick that we're not talking about a lot of guys, but this is a great tier.
[SPEAKER_02]: Like I strongly suggest as you're listening to this podcast that you go and check out James rankings and you actually like comb through them and read them because there I mean we could go on forever here but like Carter Beck we didn't talk about and I think it's a really great play in an FYPD.
[SPEAKER_02]: Some of the pictures, Kate Towns and I like Taylor Ray by like 100 deeds I like like that all these dudes are stuffed in this tier.
[SPEAKER_02]: So before James continues
[SPEAKER_02]: you should read it because we're not talking about everybody and like this tier in particular I think is packed with exciting dudes.
[SPEAKER_02]: Continue.
[SPEAKER_01]: I just wanted to get you guys takes on Sawyer's straw snider before we moved on.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like is he?
[SPEAKER_01]: I've got him just behind Justin LeBron here.
[SPEAKER_01]: Would you either you guys take straw snider over LeBron?
[SPEAKER_02]: No, no, personally not a lot.
[SPEAKER_02]: If we're gonna, I think that there are some major hit-to-risk, both ways there.
[SPEAKER_02]: Stroh Snyder is also not the same athlete as LeBron.
[SPEAKER_02]: So for me, like I could see an outcome where Justin LeBron isn't a short stop as a pro and he ends up being a centerfielder.
[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think that Stroh Snyder's like non-peak outcomes are as shiny.
[SPEAKER_02]: And I think if you're going to take a risk on the guy with hit tool questions, you might as well go for like the superb athlete whose backup plan is probably a premium position.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think I'll probably take Strosinite or over LeBron, but they're similar to me.
[SPEAKER_00]: I just think there's more power potential with Strosinite or so I think that's why I would bind to that a little bit more.
[SPEAKER_00]: But I think from a real life perspective, I think, you know, Jacob's got the right pick.
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you could be a little disappointed.
[SPEAKER_00]: I've seen some people really have Strosinite or shoved in some of their early FYPD rankings.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I came down on him a little after just kind of seeing the all the hit tool issues and to Jacob's point, I do think like looking at team context and sort of what happens if the plan A doesn't work out like there's nowhere for Stroke Snyder to play if he's not like a high end like right field there he's not going to make it for the brewers whereas LeBron like even if he isn't what what people hope is like there might be still a role for him with the reds.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, all right.
[SPEAKER_01]: So Tier 4, Jeff, you're leading it off here.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, obviously I tried to pack as many of my favorite targets into Tier 3, but I still think there's a lot of talent here in Tier 4.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and the first I think this is where you got to dream a little bit right like you start to get into this tier and there's maybe less actualized upside there's maybe you know less projection because of some of the high school guys we talked about.
[SPEAKER_00]: Or there's like a fatal flaw.
[SPEAKER_00]: And I think the two players are going to talk about have a red flag that could be concerning.
[SPEAKER_00]: The first one is Ty head.
[SPEAKER_00]: He was center field there for NC State.
[SPEAKER_00]: The Orioles drafted him in the second round this year.
[SPEAKER_00]: 6 3 2 0 5.
[SPEAKER_00]: He's a good athlete.
[SPEAKER_00]: He's an excellent runner.
[SPEAKER_00]: Excellent contact skills.
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you ran better than a 90% zone contact rate in college last year, the EVs to go up a little bit, but it's still 30 power.
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, he had two home runs in his pro debut.
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't necessarily anticipate that's going to be the case with him going forward.
[SPEAKER_00]: But did handle pro pitching well hit 310 over, you know,
[SPEAKER_00]: 21 games, so about a month worth of play, the question with him is with the speed with the hit tool, is this a guy and we'll see how Baltimore's player development goes, it's going to be a different head this year, pun intended.
[SPEAKER_00]: But
[SPEAKER_00]: I wonder if there's enough contact here and enough of an athlete enough physicality that they could potentially, he's never going to be like a 55-power guy, but could they get him to like 40-game power and it just kind of plays up the profile enough where he's really real pissed off the gaps, letting the legs do the talking, can get to like 12 home runs in a season.
[SPEAKER_00]: He has the kind of plate skills where you could add a little loft this wing, sacrifice some of the contact and he still has in a above average hit tool, but now he's doing damage and hitting the ball up better angles and just getting better outcomes.
[SPEAKER_00]: Really strong defender is going to have some speed, he's going to have some hit tool.
[SPEAKER_00]: So I even think like floor wise as we're talking, you know, outside like the top 50 in the rankings.
[SPEAKER_00]: This is a spot where you're willing to maybe take some swings and see if, you know, somebody can turn into something else.
[SPEAKER_00]: The other guy I'll mention is signed by friend of the show, friend of both Jake up in myself, former coworker, Peter Flaherty was his first signed play.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's Luke Williams, Pennsylvania prep kid, six feet, 180 pounds, really projectable, Vanity commit,
[SPEAKER_00]: There's power here that I think is even better than what he was great at a 50 power grade some of the EVs and some of the stuff we've been getting kind of second hand off course I cover the national so I have conversations with some of their front office guys and get some decent dope a lot of the stuff and hear an EV why some of the performances.
[SPEAKER_00]: and bridge league have been really impressive.
[SPEAKER_00]: He's a 70 runner, really good defender as well.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's a matter of like, is it a 40 hit tool?
[SPEAKER_00]: Can that come along?
[SPEAKER_00]: Can they develop that?
[SPEAKER_00]: When we're talking about these cold weather prep guys, they're playing multiple sports.
[SPEAKER_00]: They're not getting the volume of reps that kids in Florida, Texas, or Jacob's backyard in California, or getting
[SPEAKER_00]: So there's often kind of this perception that there's maybe a little bit more projection there, a little bit more growth that could potentially happen.
[SPEAKER_00]: One of the things that's nice about this draft date, there's a lot of things that are bad, but one of the things that's nice is somebody like Luke Williams doesn't end up getting assigned to an affiliate and he has an opportunity to go out of their complex and Palm Beach really live there for several months.
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, work with guys every day in terms of strength and I'm swinging and all the little things that you need to do to kind of get to where he needs to be and then they do bridge league it's kind of shut down and then they're back for like offseason camps for a couple of months before they come back and typically late January early February so there's a ton of development time that's going to be really focused and I don't think that's something that Luke Williams and a lot of these cold weather players have ever had previously
[SPEAKER_00]: in terms of really, really dialed in focus in terms of what they're going to be able to do in an off-season, work on a swing, really struggle and kind of rebuild the swing.
[SPEAKER_00]: These guys throughout their lives have always had to compete, always had to be the best player, always been called upon to really perform.
[SPEAKER_00]: We're now, he kind of gets that knee time to kind of work on him, work on his game, and improve a lot of things.
[SPEAKER_00]: And we've seen some, with this period, we've seen some guys really come out super charged based on what they were when they were drafted.
[SPEAKER_00]: Connor Griffin is one of those and there's been others too.
[SPEAKER_00]: So I think you can kind of look at someone like him and say, all right, like there's, there's maybe some potential here, I'm not paying the premium price that I'm paying on other tools, he prep prospects, but this is a good lottery ticket to this point, maybe take a chance and if the hit tool comes around, how it gets a little better, this could be a guy that blows up next year.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think that's a great call.
[SPEAKER_01]: And if Luke Williams hits, I'm going to be way too low on it.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I'm ranking him as if he's probably not going to hit.
[SPEAKER_01]: But like, he has the tools to be much higher.
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, Jacob, how about a couple of your targets from this year?
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I know I snake this one from Jeff.
[SPEAKER_02]: Jack Ridell is somebody that he and I have both been very high on for some time out of Notre Dame.
[SPEAKER_02]: Just kind of everything you're looking at.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's not, I don't even want to make it sound like it's the same thing.
[SPEAKER_02]: But like the reasons that I really like Jackson Flora in the earlier part of our conversation, just like what he could be, what he looks like, are a lot of the same reasons why I like Jack Ridell is at the same tier.
[SPEAKER_02]: No, that's why we're talking about him now and not earlier,
[SPEAKER_02]: Six foot five workhorse frames starter looking bodies who throw strikes in this case with plus control are easy guys to bet on.
[SPEAKER_02]: I think that
[SPEAKER_02]: when you have that combination like there's a reason that those dudes go well in the real world draft, there's a reason why they should go well in your FYPD because they have long careers, they're durable, they are dependable and they go on to do what they're expected to do and he has an arsenal that is full of averages and fringe pluses.
[SPEAKER_02]: I think the fastball is already in that like
[SPEAKER_02]: conversation, the slider also in that near plus conversation, and then you can see it maybe getting there to at least average or above, with a cutter, with a curveball.
[SPEAKER_02]: There's just a number of things that he's capable of doing.
[SPEAKER_02]: The change up is solid.
[SPEAKER_02]: So,
[SPEAKER_02]: I like him.
[SPEAKER_02]: I think that's just the upside is pretty cure.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's he going to be a big ace, highly doubtful, but it's he going to be a major league starter.
[SPEAKER_02]: I think that's a very reasonable outcome to kind of dream on with him.
[SPEAKER_02]: And then my second is Owen Hall, who I could make an argument that you could shove him up a tear.
[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, if you wanted to multi-sport background outfielder, uh, six foot six, I mean, he's listed most places like six foot four, but if you get up on him, which I had the opportunity to do it, the college world series, the guys like towering over most people, I'm I'm six foot two and he's like clearly taller than me.
[SPEAKER_02]: Um, so he should be guy, uh, the angles are poor.
[SPEAKER_02]: Like Jeff was talking about that with some of his picks earlier.
[SPEAKER_02]: I think this is Zion Rose where it's like,
[SPEAKER_02]: The power is apparent, you can see it, you can dream on it a little bit, but if he doesn't start to get the ball in the air, it's going to be really hard for him to access that in a meaningful way.
[SPEAKER_02]: That is absolutely a problem that Owen Hall has had throughout his entire career.
[SPEAKER_02]: But again, if it happens, then it's kind of a great lottery ticket here.
[SPEAKER_02]: So in this range, if you was still on the board, I'd be super pumped to get him an FYPD and I would not laugh at you if you took
[SPEAKER_01]: before I give my picks.
[SPEAKER_01]: It sounds like you guys would both probably have Jack Radella up a tier two, right?
[SPEAKER_02]: Probably.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think I could buy into that.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'll say too, like we talked about.
[SPEAKER_00]: team context.
[SPEAKER_00]: And while a lot of things have kind of degenerated for the Astros player development over the last, you know, GM and the new administration that's going to take place is a little different than it had been before.
[SPEAKER_00]: But I think you, um,
[SPEAKER_00]: I think you look at what they've done with less town and pitchers and getting those guys kind of tuned up into the Big League rotation or into some sort of major league role.
[SPEAKER_00]: This is probably one of the most talented pitchers they've had in years, made a pick a few years ago where it turned out the arm that they bought was more or less broken.
[SPEAKER_00]: This guy isn't, and I think that there's more potential upside as well, working with pro development and kind of honing in his arsenal.
[SPEAKER_00]: And the other thing I'll give the Astros credit for, they were kind of one of the first teams that had everybody throwing,
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, four to six pitches, pretty consistently.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like any time I wrote up an Astro's player, they had a fast ball, they had a slider, they had a curve ball, they had a change up, a lot of them had cutters, a lot of them had, you know, you know, two seem fast balls as well.
[SPEAKER_00]: And they've been doing that since like 2022.
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think that's changed.
[SPEAKER_00]: So even from the key, the team context I buy into Ridell as well.
[SPEAKER_01]: All right, so my targets from this tier, I'm going to try to go quick here because there's some background noise in my house, but will brick catcher who got 2.5 million from the jays.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm typically fading prep catchers, but I just loved his his wood bat data, love his frame, I think it's it's quite possible that at the end of this year, it's going to be very clear that will bricks their catcher the future.
[SPEAKER_01]: So if you're in a league that, you know, two catcher league, that type of thing.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think brick should be a target in the middle of FYPDs.
[SPEAKER_01]: And then Traibus Sard, a center fielder from Houston, had a very loud three-game debut at single-A.
[SPEAKER_01]: And he's just a classic Guardian's center fielder plus plus speed.
[SPEAKER_01]: And he hits the ball harder than his college power data suggests.
[SPEAKER_01]: And so just interested if the Guardian's can
[SPEAKER_01]: coaxed it more, impact out there of Travery Sard.
[SPEAKER_01]: I do like taking a flyer on one of Broussard or Peyton Bonds, kind of late in the FIPD, just to kind of get that tool set in there.
[SPEAKER_01]: I love Peyton Bonds with the Giants.
[SPEAKER_01]: Bloodlines are about as elite as they could be, unless he was actually Barry's son, so I just think it's worth taking a shot on Peyton Bonds as well there.
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I could probably come up with a couple of Lucas War is a tough one because I think when you can run like that, there's always potential that like.
[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe he blows up his approach becomes a really valuable fantasy player, but at the same time I will wonder until he either does it or doesn't, if he's gonna be able to hit enough to be able to capitalize on that, we already know that it's like bottom of the scale power.
[SPEAKER_02]: So those are never guys that I'm like eager to jump on necessarily, but he is, again, it's like a top of the scale runner.
[SPEAKER_02]: So I can see why you want that.
[SPEAKER_01]: kind of think that's he's down and he was down into your six just for the record.
[SPEAKER_02]: I thought we were just going to the back of that.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's just we're just going to Oh, sure.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Or Leah, if you had any higher up.
[SPEAKER_02]: Tier four fades.
[SPEAKER_02]: I don't want to call him a fade because I know a lot of people who liked them and I even before the draft had said, you know, I could see it being really positive because of his field of hip,
[SPEAKER_02]: like Jeff and I have a lot of conversations before the draft.
[SPEAKER_02]: When you have kind of the same thing like premium field of hit, not necessarily the same run tool as my errands look as more shout out, but you know,
[SPEAKER_02]: still limited power.
[SPEAKER_02]: I think he's very passive as well.
[SPEAKER_02]: Like that's something that would really scare me with him, just the selectivity.
[SPEAKER_02]: And I don't know having watched a lot of him that I've seen a lot of him getting like the A swing off.
[SPEAKER_02]: I haven't seen Tyhead's A swing frequently.
[SPEAKER_02]: So he'll be somebody that I would be cautious of.
[SPEAKER_02]: But at the same time, like I could see why you would love him as well.
[SPEAKER_02]: He he does have some pretty exceptional feel for hitting.
[SPEAKER_01]: What do you think Jeff?
[SPEAKER_01]: Jeff muted.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh man, my bad.
[SPEAKER_00]: I wasn't gonna throw it land and tell me.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm just not into this profile.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think people hear the name, you know who his father is.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's not a big guy.
[SPEAKER_00]: He doesn't have that kind of power projection long term.
[SPEAKER_00]: not a great athlete.
[SPEAKER_00]: I just, I don't know where this goes.
[SPEAKER_00]: He for me is like a definite fade where like I'm in on cold pro sec, for example, you know, think he's, I think he's pretty legit.
[SPEAKER_00]: He's somebody I would go after, 100%.
[SPEAKER_00]: where, you know, I would probably fade him the other one that I'm fading that I might upset some people on staff with this one.
[SPEAKER_00]: I really don't buy into Miles Bailey hit tool.
[SPEAKER_00]: And like if you have to, if you're a first basement and, you know, you got the power, you got to be able to hit too.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like, you
[SPEAKER_00]: The standard for your hitting ability as a first base and with that profile just has to be exceptional and you know you can have all the power in the world if you're not making enough contact that's concerning and when I look at an ACC based profile where he had swing and miss concerns in the ACC
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if I'm really buying into that.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think that, you know, their approach is kind of a little bit too passive as well.
[SPEAKER_00]: He's an exciting player.
[SPEAKER_00]: He's a guy that you want to watch in a home run Derby.
[SPEAKER_00]: You could see a single swing and be like, I see the future of the earth here.
[SPEAKER_00]: But.
[SPEAKER_00]: At the same time, I think, you look at these profiles and they just don't typically project really well unless they're able to significantly improve their bats of ball skills and really tighten up their approach.
[SPEAKER_00]: So I just think there's a thin margin for error despite insane exit velocity data.
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, like, you know, so maybe I'm wrong.
[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe this turns into Andrew Fisher and I'm eating Crow a year from now, but even with Fisher, like those are profiles, I just don't buy into with sustained major league success.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'll throw out another guy with a small margin for air, at least for me, and that's Carson Wiggins.
[SPEAKER_01]: I just think the combination of the injury track record and the poor control, I just think you bet against it.
[SPEAKER_01]: I've got him ranked pretty low, so the upside is obvious, but I just wouldn't be treating Carson Wiggins as sort of like in that group of the top college arms we were talking about earlier.
[SPEAKER_01]: And he's never pitched.
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, he's got like no track record at all.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, but at this, I would, I'll stump for Williams.
[SPEAKER_02]: I actually think Wiggins would be a good picture because like the upside, we could talk about this whole time.
[SPEAKER_02]: If you're playing the, the crap shoot game here, I'll take the upside play on the guy who's got a devastating slider and is up to 102 when he's healthy.
[SPEAKER_02]: Like that's,
[SPEAKER_02]: I'll throw that into the arsenal on the bottom of my fantasy roster and if it works out great and if it doesn't and it's looking sketchy right out the gate, that's a really easy player for me to call up some guy on my league and be like, hey, do you want to take a shot at this and try and pawn him off as some sort of finishing piece in a trade?
[SPEAKER_02]: Like that, that I don't think is a crazy idea either.
[SPEAKER_02]: I love Carson Wiggins for those reasons.
[SPEAKER_02]: I do have a question for you though, James.
[SPEAKER_02]: How afraid would you be, how afraid should people be of a guy like Caden Ferraro with the Cardinals who is a data juggernaut, absolutely.
[SPEAKER_02]: Like at you, everything that you could possibly want, he's got it at the plate.
[SPEAKER_02]: At the same time though, he is a 20 defender and may not have a position like it really truly could be DH only.
[SPEAKER_02]: Does that scare you off or is the bad good enough where it's like worth it?
[SPEAKER_02]: Because if the match good enough, that's a guy who I could see bumping up a tear because it's a great quality bat.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I said if you really squint, you can see shades of the Andy Diaz with Ferraro and so like that, you know, you're definitely, you're in a corner, like there's no where for him to go other than like that type of outcome.
[SPEAKER_01]: But I would honestly rather bet on that than
[SPEAKER_01]: Someone that I, I'm really worried about the hit tool or I'm really worried about the health like I just I'd rather bet on a really strong offensive profile with terrible defense over some of the those other type of flawed archetypes, but you know, I definitely I hear what you're saying on Wiggins like as as long as he's taken sort of in like a flyer range like you're sort of like.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is a guy that's going to be a future part of my rotation.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I think he's definitely in that flyer room.
[SPEAKER_02]: I just wouldn't have got to say that category.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: Like, for me, it's not that I'm stumped in for him.
[SPEAKER_02]: Like, this is going to be a future member by fantasy rotation.
[SPEAKER_02]: But I also don't know that I would be deliberately looking to avoid it on a draft either because I think that there are like some rare qualities there that some of the other arms in this range won't have and their outcomes will ultimately be similar anyway.
[SPEAKER_02]: So like, go shoot for the stars here and take the guy who's got the crazy stuff.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'll say this, I think if Wiggins comes out and is pitching well early, he is such an easy trade piece for me.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's what I'm saying.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm trying to package him into trading, like, I don't know, I mean, like, because we've seen it with his brother who had more track record and it's just,
[SPEAKER_00]: That profile of college starter, like can they ever really get healthy?
[SPEAKER_00]: Like if you're dealing with those kind of arm injuries in college, is it really going to get better?
[SPEAKER_00]: Like I can see it with a position player.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like I think a lot of times with position players, it could just be broken bones where it's stuff like that.
[SPEAKER_00]: There's some soft tissue injury stuff that concerns me, but guys can get beyond that.
[SPEAKER_00]: With pictures, once you start getting hurt, there's not a lot of track record for guys who are hurt,
[SPEAKER_00]: early in their careers and then really found durability in the second half.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's just not a great track record without those type of players.
[SPEAKER_00]: So I think that's where my apprehension is from a talent perspective.
[SPEAKER_00]: He's as exciting as probably any arm we're going to talk about.
[SPEAKER_00]: The stuff is outrageous, right?
[SPEAKER_01]: And can like a one-in-ing stint can be like a branding carquer, you go out there, you see him on the right day, you're like, this guy is, it's exactly what I was thinking of when you were saying, like, just try to trade him right away early, 2027, because he could definitely have like a brand and carquer, like,
[SPEAKER_00]: first six weeks, you know, people were ranking like 30th in April of 2025.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like everybody shoving them way up boards, right?
[SPEAKER_00]: And if you had cashed in on that, you probably did pretty well.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, no doubt.
[SPEAKER_01]: Anyone got anything else they want to say before we sign off?
[SPEAKER_02]: I'll give an off off the board that we've talked about, shout out that's intriguing.
[SPEAKER_02]: I think that you could be a real winner in your FIPD if you at the right point.
[SPEAKER_02]: if you take Brody Bumilla, and I know that Jeff is going to, yeah, they see there you go.
[SPEAKER_02]: No, I think that he's intriguing.
[SPEAKER_02]: I just took him in a non-Razz III, FYPD.
[SPEAKER_02]: Very late.
[SPEAKER_02]: He was my seventh or eighth round pick.
[SPEAKER_02]: I think he's where he slid to and I snagged him and it's like,
[SPEAKER_02]: kind of great.
[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that the risk is enormous in the real world to take a picture who is double TJ before he throws a pro pitch and got run into the ground in his draft season.
[SPEAKER_02]: But the hundred mile per hour basketball body athlete lefty is not not the guy who I want on my roster.
[SPEAKER_02]: So if it works out,
[SPEAKER_02]: Sky is the limit, but it's a big gift.
[SPEAKER_02]: So at the right spot, he's super fun.
[SPEAKER_02]: And there you go, that's my farting wisdom.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's Brody Bumilla.
[SPEAKER_02]: Don't let him slip your mind.
[SPEAKER_01]: You definitely have a type.
[SPEAKER_01]: If you're stumping for wagons and Bumilla.
[SPEAKER_02]: At this point in FYPD, there's nothing wrong with velocity and upside.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I will say, like, I think from an upside perspective, vanilla could be an absolute monster in a year and a half.
[SPEAKER_00]: And I think, especially getting into like a pro-devin environment, like, you know, he's working with guys and like, around where I grew up.
[SPEAKER_00]: And we haven't produced a whole ton of pictures, frankly.
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, there's no Cressy sports kind of in the backyard, like there is for a lot of the central mask kids, like E&C Moore, Sean Burke, or central mask guys.
[SPEAKER_00]: So, I think, as some of that, he's just such a freaky app, like he does things physically that I've never seen a picture that big do.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like it was over seven feet of extension on average.
[SPEAKER_00]: And he's sitting, you know, with crazy spin capacity, he was sitting 98 to 102 is a high school guy from a low-left hand at slot.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's like he was like a monster version of like no shelves.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think there's really a lot of different directions that this could go.
[SPEAKER_00]: And the arsenal because of some of his traits could just really expand.
[SPEAKER_00]: So we'll see where it goes.
[SPEAKER_00]: And we'll see what the ranges are able to do, but I think for like a late flyer,
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I, there's upside with the bell.
[SPEAKER_00]: I was just, there's rest too.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think I'm always going to find someone I'd rather take the shot on than, than him.
[SPEAKER_01]: Just because I think when you throw that hard that young, I mean, you were saying like Jeff, when does that work out?
[SPEAKER_01]: And like in the car's weekend's case, but as they're an example of it working out in like a boomilla case, like I just on a green.
[SPEAKER_00]: on a grain, through hard, really young, is probably the best example.
[SPEAKER_01]: But I mean, did he, but he like didn't have the double surgeries or, no, has now, yeah, there's not a lot of track record for this at all.
[SPEAKER_02]: Like I would be more confident in Wiggins by a wide margin if that doesn't anything for our listeners to like put in a perspective how nervous I'd be about Bumila.
[SPEAKER_02]: I would be
[SPEAKER_02]: more markedly more confident that Wiggins turns into fantasy value, that I would be Bumila.
[SPEAKER_02]: That being said, I think Bumila's ceiling is about as high as any player in this FYPD class.
[SPEAKER_02]: Like, there's some really good stuff at the top, Jackson Flora excites me a lot.
[SPEAKER_02]: Vaan Lackey, I think is a, we didn't even talk about it on the show, but like Vaan Lackey is a,
[SPEAKER_02]: Awesome player.
[SPEAKER_02]: I think rock for the reasons Jeff talked about is somebody that you can get excited about great Emerson same thing, but like just pure upside talk.
[SPEAKER_02]: I think you Mila is up in the conversation with anybody in this group.
[SPEAKER_02]: And if you like at a certain point.
[SPEAKER_02]: Once you cross a certain upside threshold for me in an FYPD you kind of quickly become worth it and like maybe that roster spot gets turned two years from now because it's the bus that everybody thought it could be after a guy has two surgeries, but like all feel good about wasting that roster spot for two years Just in case because I do think that if he can stay healthy if it works out and he goes way against the grain on his demographic
[SPEAKER_02]: worth it to me.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, this has been a great check guys.
[SPEAKER_01]: Really appreciate you both hop and on.
[SPEAKER_01]: And again, the top 100 FYPD rankings are fully updated, live on baseball America along with my targets and fates.
[SPEAKER_01]: Next was name.
