Patriots beat the Raiders,
forty five to seventeen at Gillette for
their first winning streak of twenty
twenty six and move on to three and
two.
They did it without their star corners,
Christian Gonzalez and Carlton Davis and
pressured Kirk Cousins on fifty percent of
their dropbacks.
Fellas and Drake May went for twenty six
or thirty four,
thirty hundred seventy four yards,
four touchdowns and a rushing T.B.
The guy balled out.
I just have to start it off like
this, man.
Who's the one player that stood out for
you?
Let's start.
Oh, go ahead.
Go ahead.
I'm sorry.
It's hard to always do one.
I hate doing one because I like to
do both sides of the ball.
So I'm going to cheat.
I'm going to do offense defense.
I'm going to say Kyle Williams on offense
and.
Defensively, Gabe Ackes,
who just continues to impress week after
week.
Kyle Williams, more of the result of,
I thought he could just run one route,
which is just straight down the goalpost.
And he did run that route for a
touchdown.
But he also made a really nice,
he ran a really nice crossing route that
also resulted in a touchdown.
Or it was a deep throw or something
like that.
That was a really,
it was a deep throw.
And I was impressed to see him be
able to be a little bit more versatile
as a receiver.
So those two players stood out to me,
Atkins and Kyle Williams.
Kyle Williams.
I didn't think we was going to hear
his name today, boy.
I don't want to go for the obvious
ones.
I'll tell you a name that we will
mention.
Same guy I brought up last time,
Efton Chisholm Jr.
I mean, sorry, Efton Chisholm III, III,
III.
My apologies.
But I told you guys last time he
was going to be the one in the
wide receiver room to step up.
In this game,
he did finish in what I believe about
like five receptions for maybe a fifty
seven, sixty yards, something like that.
His name was called upon to step up.
You know, no Mack Hollins, A.J.
Brown,
slowly but surely trying to make his way
back.
But Efton Chisholm III,
I keep saying Junior,
stepped up in a role to really make
an impact for the Patriots offense in
Drake May.
Respect Junior, bro.
Y'all here throwing his name out there and
everything.
Doing him like Drew Bledsoe,
like Eric Bledsoe.
My guy and I brought him up last
week and he didn't disappoint quickly
becoming my favorite player on this team,
Elijah.
ponder fellas we're talking about what two
two sacks in in the game one one
strip sack the guy is everywhere he was
in five pressures he's a baller and we're
really gonna have to start thinking about
teams are gonna have to start game
planning around elijah ponder especially
ever since um barman went out he's been
a force to reckon with but we're gonna
talk about more after this intro
Beautiful.
Why call him Junior?
I don't know why I call him Junior.
It's close to being a Junior.
He's just one removed from being a Junior.
You're not that far off.
Just missed a generation.
Shout out to his pops.
How do you know it's his pops?
Thurs don't have to be directly right
underneath.
Oh, that's true.
People are switching it up all the time.
So maybe, who knows who it is?
Whoever the junior is,
if there's a junior,
shout out to them because I keep
mentioning them for whatever reason.
We're going to go into, quote unquote,
the main event.
We'll talk about...
You guys can elaborate more onto your
players,
and then we can also talk about what
changed this week with the defense.
Drake made what you guys saw and
everything like that.
I'll start it off with you, Mike.
All right, and we'll start.
Welcome back, everyone, to Straight Up.
Cash brought to you by Double M.
You already know who I'm with.
My name is Marvin Design, your host,
and I got Jet Stryer in the building.
What up, Jet?
How's it going?
I don't look cool when I do this.
I look... I don't know.
It doesn't look good.
You guys make it look much cooler than
me.
With cash in your hand, it don't matter,
Jet.
You know what I'm saying?
Everyone looks good with cash.
Maybe you just got the real cash.
Put real cash in your hands next week.
Yeah, for my teacher salary.
I'll get all that cash.
Who used to do that, Johnny?
Was it Johnny Manziel?
Johnny Manziel, that was a go-to move.
It was Johnny.
That really worked out well for him.
Damn, damn.
Johnny be streaming now.
And also got...
Mr. Mike Nice in the building.
What's up, Mike?
Hey, man.
I definitely want cash in my hand.
I know Johnny Manziel,
he's probably only doing it one hand right
now, the world he's living in.
But streaming-wise,
he could be making good money the way
the world's working right now.
So one hand, two hand,
I want money in both hands.
Listen,
watch that documentary on Johnny Manziel.
I think it's on Netflix.
Untold?
I think so.
He lived a lot.
Like, we knew it was wild.
But that boy was living different, bro.
He was living different.
I understand why he was flashing that
money.
But straight cash ain't got nothing to do
with Johnny.
Shout out to our boy Randy.
You know what I'm saying?
Straight cash.
Straight cash, homie.
Facts, indeed.
Fellas.
We spoke about this game last week going
into it.
We all had the Patriots winning,
but this was an old-fashioned blowout.
By the fourth quarter,
my eyes started getting a little heavy.
I was like, you know,
it might not be the right time to
start my early four p.m.
nap.
because the game had nothing going for
itself anymore once they became to ten
then it becomes a red zone game go
on then it becomes you flip it up
to red zone if something happens i'll i'll
catch it i'll catch it later you don't
say hopefully no injuries or anything like
that mike nice what did you see during
this game that really showed that the
patriots might have flipped the switch
So I know the last couple conversations
we've had,
especially revolving around Drake Mays,
you know,
when will this guy get it together?
He needs to play better.
He needs to do a better job at
the quarterback position.
And then you have this week coming up.
You already know they're down, you know,
a star player in A.J.
Brown.
And then you're heading into this week.
The next best receiver on the team looked
like it was Matt Collins.
He goes down.
So, you know, heading into this week,
Matt, you should be looking at,
well –
Are the Patriots maybe going to sign
somebody, make a trade?
What are they going to do?
Because the wide receiver room is looking
really, really, really slow right now,
especially the way Dobbs has kind of
played throughout the course of the first
couple of weeks.
And then everybody else on the team is
not really that established in the wide
receiver room.
I know –
Pop Douglas has been around for a couple
of seasons now, but, you know,
he hasn't really made a huge name for
himself.
Kyle Williams is still trying to figure it
out.
The third is trying to figure it out.
And then you got Hunter Henry and the
rookie reared in.
So you're looking at the room of receivers
and Titans like,
who the hell is Drake May really going
to get the ball to?
Listen, they figured it out.
And again,
I know I'm always the one to do
it.
A room full of no-name kind of receivers
and the quarterback making it happen.
It sounds very familiar here in New
England.
When you got a quarterback throwing to
some randos down the field and putting up
the kind of points and yardage that they
put up.
It sounds real familiar here in New
England.
And it was a flashback to years ago
when we watched the quarterback in New
England.
I won't say his name just yet.
But figure it out and put up big
numbers with the guys that he had
available.
I spoke about Chisholm III,
who had about five receptions for fifty
seven yards, I believe.
And, you know,
coming off the game prior to where he
had that amazing catch.
And again, Hollins going down and said,
maybe this guy will step up.
He surely did step up,
along with Dobbs making some plays.
Pop Douglas had some plays.
I believe Jet mentioned Kyle Williams as
well.
So the receivers did their thing.
Now, can we debate?
Is it because they were going against a
sorry ass team like the Raiders?
You know,
we can have that conversation as well.
But you still want your team to look
good when they step out there and get
on the field and play.
And that's exactly what the Patriots
offense did.
Shout out to Drake May for sure for
how he's played the last for how he's
played the last couple of weeks.
He really stepped up, kept the ball safe.
No turnovers in this game.
But the receivers as well,
especially my guy, Eftim Chisholm,
the third.
I didn't think we was going to get
a rookie Mac Jones reference from you
because that's who you were speaking of
earlier with the last time we've seen a
quarterback do that.
So wow, that's a great callback from you,
Mike.
I didn't see that coming, man.
Passing it off to you, Jet.
What did you see during this matchup that
might have showed that the Patriots might
have flipped the switch here?
A lot more confidence, I think,
in the play calling offensively.
It might be a product of saying, okay,
let's look at the first three weeks of
the season and just throw that playbook,
those plays out.
It's not working.
We can't play this style of football.
It's just not sustainable.
We're not going to end up having a
season that we're proud of or a successful
season.
So I think the confidence in the play
calling, offensively especially,
has been really important.
And I do wonder if losing...
AJ Brown, granted,
Drake May has no connection with AJ Brown
yet because he just got here and he
played only a handful of snaps,
and losing Matt Collins,
and then in the offseason losing Keyshawn
Booty and not really having those sort of
safety nets besides Hunter Henry,
if that's kind of forced Drake May to...
like open up his game and be like,
okay,
I can't just be locked in on one
guy.
I got to spread the ball around,
find the open receiver.
And sometimes that makes the game a lot
easier when you don't have the expectation
of like, all right, where's Matt?
Where's Holland's going to be on this
play?
You know, where's,
where's Keishon booty going to be on this
play.
And,
and when you don't have that sort of
pressure on you,
I think it sort of slows down a
little bit and you're just playing that
basic, you know,
find the open man, hit the open man,
start a game,
and you trust the play calls.
I have not been impressed with the
Raiders.
I thought it was sort of fool's gold.
Yes,
they played pretty well for the first
three, four weeks of the season.
But there's still a team that had the
worst record in the league last year.
We saw with the Patriots last year.
It's possible to rebound from being one of
the worst teams in the league to being
a really good team,
but it's not commonplace.
And so I think that it was a
lot – it was that –
good combination of the Patriots of
starting to have Drake Macy to feel a
little better,
the play calling being a little better and
the Raiders not being that competitive of
a team,
maybe a little bit of fool's gold and
having that confidence of coming off of
that Buffalo win.
And so I saw a lot of that
on the offensive side and defensively,
it's the same thing I talked about last
week.
I think they play with a chip on
their shoulder.
They saw people talking about, okay,
the Raiders are like,
We're hyping them up.
They almost beat Kansas city.
They've been playing really well.
This is a new team.
Kirk cousins is leading the league in
touchdown passes coming into this game.
He's looking like, you know,
Kirk cousins from, you know,
when he was in Minnesota and like,
he's really starting to find things.
And I think the defense said,
We're not going to let him do anything
against us, and he didn't.
I predicted three interceptions for Kirk
Cousins, one of them being a pick six.
I was wrong,
but he did not play a good game.
Kirk Cousins looked terrible in this game,
and the Patriots defense was a big reason
why.
It wasn't just Kirk Cousins doing like
Kirk Cousins and Atlanta things.
The defense played terrific.
The defense was awesome.
That's where I wanted to touch upon is
seeing how aggressive the defense played
this week compared to the other weeks.
Obviously,
we're seeing the rise of Drake May,
but I honestly believe that the reason why
this game was won was on the other
side of the field,
what the defense was doing to the Raiders.
Only one who really got off was Bowers,
right?
Bowers
that game plan of having marcus jones on
him we could we can talk we could
talk about that and say was that the
right choice to do because that was that
was barbecue chicken man easy money for
bowers and so um and patriots didn't
adjust that you know obviously the game
started to get out of hand so it
wasn't something that we had to worry
about but something to just you know mark
off when you lose all that depth and
you have to have marcus jones on brock
bowers
I don't know when you had that game
plan in the beginning of the week.
I don't know.
Everyone's like, oh, yeah,
that's going to be great.
Marcus Jones, you got that on Bowers.
That's the best tight end in the league.
But outside of that,
seeing how much they were able to do
four-man pressures on Kirk Cousins,
I believe so it's –
Patriots did four-man pressures,
twenty-five percent of the time in the
first four weeks,
and it bumped it up to forty-three percent
against Kirk Cousins.
Aggressiveness, starting off early,
trying to cause turnovers,
that's what I love to see.
And you're doing that when you know you
don't have
your safety blankets in Carlton Davis and
Christian Gonzalez in that back.
So even bringing in guys like Woods who
played their ass off the corners,
obviously they're not playing no one
elite.
It wasn't no Devontae Adams out there.
You got the Trey Tuckers in the world,
and you're able to bottle those up.
But they didn't make mistakes.
And that's all you need right now.
When you're facing teams like the Raiders,
you just don't want to make silly
mistakes.
And then on the other side of the
field, guys,
let's talk about the offensive lines.
The offensive line was amazing last week.
Yeah, we talked about Max Crosby a lot.
We were worried about him, but we were.
They handled him.
There was a clip that came out,
you know,
when they show you the mic'd up clips
and everything when Douglas got that
touchdown.
And Douglas went up to the offensive line
and, you know, thanked him.
Usually you only see that with running
backs.
Like the coach would be like, yo,
thank the offensive line because they held
you down.
But when a wide receiver has to come
up to go tell you, nah,
y'all held it down because Drake had all
day to throw.
gave Douglas all the chance in the world
to just be wide open into the end
zone.
That already goes to show you where the
Patriots were with that game.
Now we got to talk about it.
Will Campbell, there was some injuries.
There was some injuries that we had this
week.
Will Campbell goes down,
you bring in Lomu.
He's had an up and down training camp.
Now we're going to really see what he's
made of.
If Lomu's good.
What does that mean for Will Campbell,
who's now gone two years in a row
injuring the same knee?
What's you guys' thoughts on the offensive
line and then the injuries that were
displayed this past week?
Yeah, well, Will Campbell,
speaking of up and down,
I think he's been relatively up and down,
too.
A little bit more up than down,
in fairness.
Against Buffalo, he wasn't good.
But every other game,
he's held up pretty well.
We knew coming into the NFL,
he was undersized for his position in
terms of arm length.
A lot of people want him to kick
in the guard and maybe that's eventually
what he does.
Lomo certainly is more of like a
prototypical size and length for a left
tackle position.
If Lomo is, is good.
I think that it's,
it's really just needs to be a
meritocracy.
Like whoever plays the best gets the
position period.
Like you can't look at,
they're both first round picks.
Campbell's the higher of the two first
round picks.
But when you're talking about being the
blind side tackle for a franchise
quarterback, which is what,
Tariq May is and what we expect them
to pay him as going forward,
you have to give the starting nod to
whoever plays the best football.
And just kind of spitballing off of that
really quick,
talking about what you were saying about
the defense too, Marv, in that example,
I think the NFL,
more than any other league,
is a next man up
because when somebody else comes in and
somebody else is hurt,
that might be your only opportunity in a
year to play.
And there's so few games and so few
moments to play.
I think we see that with the defense
this past week, maybe the week before,
too,
with the injuries to Christian Gonzalez.
Like,
they're so highly motivated to play as
well as they can.
A lot of times the guys who are
the backups will be the ones who jettison
you to a win, to a victory,
because it's so important for them.
That's where they earn their money.
That's when other teams take a look at
them, see them on the film,
and they sign them.
It's a little bit different for Caleb Lomo
because he's a first-round pick.
but i still think the same thing applies
if he plays well like you've got to
give the job you've got to give the
job to whoever plays the position best
period it's not it's not doesn't go off
of where you were picked what your
contract status is when you're talking
about protecting the quarterback or any
position really in the nfl there's so few
games to get this thing right you've got
to go with the hot hand and whoever's
playing best
Mike Nice.
I agree a hundred percent.
Whoever is the best at protecting the
quarterback needs to have that role.
And I know, like you said,
Will Campbell being drafted the higher of
the two,
he's going to get a lot of criticism.
He got plenty last season,
especially in that Super Bowl game.
And then going into this season,
everyone wanted to know what they were
going to get out of Will Campbell going
into year two.
And
Coming into the league,
he's always said the right things.
He seemed like he's a kid with a
great motor and wants to be great,
wants to continue and improve.
But the NFL isn't college football,
it's a lot different.
And while he's making that transition,
the injuries don't help his situation with
the amount of times he's gone down on
the different things he's dealt with.
I do feel as if,
He has a spot on that offensive line.
Maybe he has to change and move to
guard, and if that's the case,
so be it.
But I believe in who Will Campbell is
as a player,
as just wanting to be better,
wanting to do a good job protecting the
quarterback.
I forgot some of the quotes that he
had when he was first getting drafted,
but he said some stuff that you wanna
hear from an offensive lineman.
And he lied.
You want to hear the offensive lineman
speak like that when it comes to
protecting the quarterback.
Man, I'll go to war for my quarterback.
I'll die for my quarterback.
Whatever I got to do to protect.
He was saying stuff like that,
if I remember correctly.
But aside from that, you know, again,
hoping that the injuries aren't as bad as
what it seemed.
I believe I read somewhere earlier today
that, you know,
he was –
in his cleats and his pads and went
to practice today.
You know why, Mike?
You know why?
You don't want to lose his spot.
His job's on the line, boy.
It's different when you have another
first-round pick behind you.
He's pushing to be out there.
And at the end of the day,
I can't be mad at the guy for
pushing to be out there wanting to secure
a spot.
Obviously,
you want him to be out there fully
healthy and ready to go.
But, you know, he wants a spot.
He doesn't want to lose it.
And like I said,
a guy that's hungry like that,
even if it's not his original spot,
even if he has to shift –
Somewhere else on the line,
I want to trust and believe that Will
Campbell is somebody that will do a good
job protecting on the offensive line,
blocking and doing what he needs to do.
It remains to be seen if he returns
for the following week.
But if not, Lumo, listen, man,
like you guys said,
there's not many opportunities that
someone gets to step up and maybe hold
down and take over a starting job.
This might be one of those situations.
We've seen plenty of those situations
happen in New England over the years.
This could be Lumo's chance to do that
as well.
Definitely going to be looking out for
that.
Also some news, A.J.
Brown, as we know, is now practicing.
Doesn't mean he'll play against the Jets,
but the signs are up there.
Travion Henderson,
he's going to hit the IR,
it looks like.
Oh, boy.
High ankle sprain.
Talk about it real quick, Mike.
What's your thoughts?
We can question his style of play.
And I know people want to probably
critique Henderson a lot in terms of his
running ability.
I personally believe he only can go north
and south.
when it comes to East and West,
nonexistent for him.
That breakaway speed,
he can make it downfield if he gets
open.
But aside from that, his shiftiness,
his elusiveness isn't really there.
If this was Madden,
I don't know what his elusive rating is,
but it's not too high.
But then aside from that,
The best ability is availability.
And right now,
Henderson is looking like a guy who is
not often available for the Patriots.
And, you know, obviously,
Ramondre is the bell cow,
what it seems like in New England.
But you want to believe as good as
Ramondre looks and has looked and know
he's had his fumble troubles.
If by chance Patriots strike gold with
another quarterback,
whether through the draft or or they sign
somebody, whatever the case may be.
I don't believe Ramondre Stephens' job is
safe at all.
I know we've seen in the past,
you know,
the Patriots kind of shuffled through
running backs,
shuffled through running backs.
Ramondre's held it down for the last
couple of years.
And I thought Henderson could be a guy
that maybe takes over the touches and
really takes over as a starting back in
New England.
But...
He's never really available.
You might have him for a game or
two, and then he's out.
Then he's back.
Then he's hurt.
Then he's back.
Then he's hurt.
That's been the story of Henderson so far
to start his career.
And it's really unfortunate.
But at the same time,
when he is out there,
there's still some question marks with his
game.
But another guy who you just hope can
get back on the field and give the
Patriots what he can when he's healthy.
We're going to move on to a new
segment here on Straight Cash.
I've been really excited to play this game
with y'all.
It's going to be called Cash or Trash.
I'm going to give you guys some examples.
You guys pretty much let me know.
Is this cash or is it trash?
And we'll start off with the obvious,
Drake May.
Like I said,
he threw for over three hundred and
seventy yards.
Four touchdowns, ran one in.
Does this game prove that Drake May is
back and all is well?
Start off with you, Jet.
No, I'm going to say that's trash.
Listen,
I've been very hard on Drake May at
the beginning for this year.
I fully readily admit that.
And I think he played outstanding on
Sunday.
And I think he played very well against
the Bills.
That being said,
he's not playing elite defenses right now.
And I'm not going to go into the
whole like, oh,
they had an easy schedule and stuff last
year.
You play who you play.
And he played at an MVP level last
year.
I thought he should have been the MVP
last year.
But I think we saw against really good
defenses in the playoffs and in the Super
Bowl, he struggled.
And then you saw him in week one
play a really good Seattle Seahawks
defense.
He struggled.
He played a pretty good Pittsburgh
Steelers defense.
He struggled.
He didn't play particularly well in that
game.
I wouldn't say he was awful,
but he certainly wasn't good.
And then he played in week three.
He played a pretty good,
what looks like actually a very good
Jacksonville Jaguars defense in the
Jacksonville Jaguars team, and he sucked.
Um, the Raiders defense,
we talked about Max Crosby.
It doesn't seem like they have much else
going on there right now.
Um, they're playing the jets this week,
which I know we're going to talk about.
The jets have, you know,
a defensive head coach and Aaron Glenn,
but they've traded away a lot of defensive
players.
Um, so that they're,
they're not an amazing defense by any
means either.
So I'm going to,
it's going to be a while until I
feel confident in Drake may two games in
a row is not going to do it
for me, especially when he had, uh,
One, two, three, four, five,
six terrible games in a row.
So I'm going to need to see this
for a sustained period of time to say,
yep, Cash, Drake Mays, fine.
I just am not buying it yet.
I'm happy with how he's playing.
He's playing really well.
I'm not critiquing the way he's played the
last two games.
I don't think he can play much better
than he played on Sunday,
but I'm still not fully sold based off
of what I saw early in the season
and in the playoffs and the Super Bowl
last year.
before I get to you, Mike, nice.
I'm just going to jump in and just
say, I agree with jet.
I'm on the trash side of things as
well.
What do you say, Mike?
I understand why it's looking like trash,
but you got to understand it's two good
games from Drake May,
especially this past week.
Uh,
That's a feel-good game.
If you're talking about a real confidence
booster to help propel you into the rest
of the season or as you're getting towards
the middle part of the season,
you want a game like they just had
against the Raiders.
I got to believe it's cash.
I think Drake May is headed in a
great direction where he can really –
take this offense to new heights.
And on top of that,
like we mentioned before,
he's getting A.J.
Brown back.
And if he's already working off the
mentality of, listen,
I can work the ball around.
I can make sure I'm not just zeroed
in on one person.
I can share the wealth a little bit.
When you're able to share the wealth and
get production out of anybody who touches
the ball,
now you're talking about an offense that
can really do some damage in this league.
And Drake Mays seems to be
On that trajectory of figuring that out
for sure.
So I'm calling it cash.
I think Drake May has the momentum.
He definitely has the confidence where
he's going to start playing like the guy
who looked like he was going to be
the MVP of the league last season.
All right, the next one.
This one's just for you, Mike.
I just want you to know that one.
So get ready.
I'll take off.
Because once I saw the hook and ladder,
you know,
we saw the hook and ladder by Ethnichism
III.
Not Jr.
He has potential to be Patriots wide
receiver two behind A.J.
Brown.
Long term.
Cash or trash?
Mike Nice.
Ooh, I'm going cash.
Come on, man.
You think I'm going to hype my guy
up all of a sudden to call him
trash?
Who would I be to do such a
thing?
Chisholm the third.
He has a chance to really carve out
a great spot in this offense.
I think he can be the next killer
wide receiver in that slot position.
His hands just look like he has...
He knows how to make amazing receptions,
as we've seen in his last couple of
games.
I know his number has not been called
upon a lot since he's been on the
team, but...
The Patriots, McDaniels, Vrabel,
and Drake May, they probably said, listen,
we've seen enough from this guy to make
sure he's on the field and getting some
reps out there.
He's getting some snaps.
And obviously,
if you're going off the depth chart,
he has names in front of him where
it's like, okay,
he's not going to get too many
opportunities when fully healthy.
Brown, Dobbs, Douglas,
then Matt Collins when he comes back.
And then you still got to factor in
the tight ends.
But they got to understand,
they might have struck gold here with
Chisholm.
And there's a reason why whoever had the
mindset to go get him,
there's a reason why they did.
Shout out to that person who had the
eye for Chisholm,
because it may not fully be this year.
But his time is coming,
whether it be later on this season,
whether it be he steps up and takes
somebody's spot next season.
Who knows how long Mac Hollins is a
Patriot?
Who knows how long Pop Douglas is a
Patriot?
But Chisholm might be here to stay.
I'm calling it straight cash, homie.
Real quick, Jet, what's your thoughts?
I don't know.
I mean, that's not a good answer,
but it's like I've barely seen the guy
play.
Yeah,
he's looked good when he's been out there
for sure.
He certainly looked better than who their
projected wide receiver to is in Romeo
Dobbs, who has...
just look wildly inconsistent sometimes
kind of question if he is an nfl
receiver with his hands sometimes um and
the guardian cap i'm glad that the
guardian cap works and helps people take
people from concussions but it's just to
watch a wide receiver play with it on
it's just it looks almost like a comedy
but keep wearing it i'd want your head
to be in your protection protection come
on
If I played football,
I would wear it too.
I don't care if people think I look
stupid.
It doesn't matter.
The point I'm making is I need to
see more snaps from Chisholm to start
saying, yep,
he's the wide receiver number two.
He does seem like he has a connection
with Drake May, which goes a long way.
If your quarterback trusts you and has a
connection with you,
that certainly goes a long way into you
breaking into not just the depth chart,
but being somebody that they look for on
plays, especially when plays break down,
as they often do in the NFL.
knowing like Tom Brady had that rapport
with Julianne and Wes Welker,
not saying that's what Chisholm is going
to be,
but he knew where they were going to
be when a play broke down.
He just,
it was like a sixth sense sort of
thing.
Come on, Jet.
So does he have – could he be
the number two?
Based on how Romeo Dobbs is playing,
anybody on this team could be the number
two because it's not going to be Romeo
Dobbs.
And it turns out Pop Douglas is really
good at football when he's twenty yards
wide open and nobody else is covering him.
Then he's good.
Don't do that, Jet.
Come on.
Don't do that.
Don't do that, Jet.
What that –
I think that's not an insult.
I'm just saying.
Nah, I'm not accepting that.
When he's wide open in the end zone,
when he's wide open in the end zone.
He's a great receiver.
And there's nobody within twenty seconds.
Nobody's around him.
He's awesome.
He's awesome.
He didn't drop either of those balls when
nobody was covering.
Better not.
Better not.
Romeo Dobbs might have.
I'm not sure.
You know what?
The last thing I want to say about
Chisholm is bringing it back to what we
said at the beginning about Ponder.
Two undrafted free agents last year,
Chisholm, Ponder,
both have made a big impact on this
season.
Hungry.
Elevated players.
Elevated players.
That's what we call them out here.
Patriots,
maybe they don't draft well in the regular
rounds, but in the undrafted stuff,
that's where they find the talent.
Yeah, I'm going to say trash.
If Chisholm is your wide receiver two,
listen, guys,
if he's your wide receiver two,
you're in trouble.
He's got to be your wide receiver three
and a solid one,
a guy that your quarterback trusts but
doesn't need.
You know, that's who Chisholm needs to be.
He trusts him,
but you don't really need him.
Right now their team is made of a
bunch of wide receiver threes and fours.
That's their receiving core right now.
That's been the Patriots.
Patriots Achilles heels until we've got
A.J.
Brown.
We only got to see him for twenty
seconds.
So once A.J.
Brown comes in, Mike,
you're going to see this.
There's levels to this.
Even even Dobbs is going to look better
as a wide receiver to instead of a
wide receiver.
One thing.
Everyone just moves down to where they're
supposed to be.
So Chisholm.
Let him get all the hype.
He looks like he's more than just that
one play, which is great.
I love that we get to sprinkle him
in there.
You're going to see some Kyle Williams.
You're going to see some Pop Douglas.
Jet, put some respect on his name now.
And the reason why I say that is
for the last cache of trash,
we'll make this real quick.
Jet and I had a conversation last week
where we talked about these fourth downs.
And, you know,
Jet wasn't really feeling the fourth downs
as much as I was.
And the Patriots did it again this past
week where they went for fourth down twice
and were able to score on a touchdown.
And who did they go to in those
fourth downs?
Pup.
Douglas.
Pop Douglas was actually someone that
Drake looked at in the fourth down plays.
But Cash or Trash,
Patriots being aggressive offensively
these past two weeks.
Might go for it.
I'm going to go...
That's tough.
That's tough.
I want to go trash.
The play calling to me,
I'm slowly on the side of thinking Josh
McDaniels might be a little outdated.
His play calling might just be,
I know we've talked about this before,
might slightly be behind the times.
And I get it.
You know,
there are times when going for fourth
down,
You know, seems the right thing to do.
There are other times.
Listen, take the points.
If you're in the position,
just take the points.
Don't even try to force the situation.
And I feel like every week,
kind of aside from last week,
we've been kind of questioning.
I know Drake made, you know,
on the field and his play for sure.
But the play calling is something that
we've also questioned as well.
I do want to think that eventually coming
soon,
I don't know if it's at the end
of this season,
we'll see how the rest of the season
plays out.
But Josh McDaniels' time and days might be
numbered.
I think the Patriots eventually need to
shift their direction in terms of the
philosophy on offense,
and that is McDaniels and the person they
have as the offensive coordinator.
So I want to say when it comes
to the fourth down plays and just play
calling in general, I'm going trash.
Mike,
they just had their two best offensive
games of the season.
You want to fire the offensive
coordinator?
I didn't say fire him.
I did not say fire him right now.
But I did say sometimes it can look
slightly outdated with what they're
calling on the field at times.
And that falls on McDaniels.
He is the offensive coordinator.
I will say cash with a caveat.
No running the ball on fourth down.
That I'm out on, period.
They don't have the ability to do it.
I don't want them to ever do it.
They never would.
They suck at it.
When they throw the ball on fourth down,
it works because you have a mobile
quarterback.
When they had Tom Brady,
I understand you want to run the ball
on fourth down because if a play breaks
down, he's going to get sacked.
Drake May can turn a broken play into
a first down by scrambling.
Fourth down play calls for the Patriots,
based off of their personnel,
should never be a run play.
It should never even be a quarterback
sneak.
They are not good at it.
Stick to what you're good at.
Bootleg out Drake May or let him improvise
a little bit and stick to the fourth
down passing plays.
I am fine with that.
And especially once you get ahead of the
schedule, once you're above five hundred,
it becomes a lot easier to say, OK,
go for a fourth down.
You know,
we have a little bit room to play
around with.
Last week against the Bills in such a
pivotal game,
I wasn't such a big fan of it,
even though it ended up working out,
because if you lose that game,
suddenly you're staring down the barrel of
one and three.
And that's a huge difference between that
and two and two.
And now you're ahead of the schedule
again.
So I'm okay with them to continue as
long as they don't fall back and start
playing from behind and behind being
meaning behind five hundred as a as a
team.
and they throw the ball.
No more running.
I don't care who's the running back unless
they go out and trade for Derrick Henry.
I'm good.
They think they have Derrick Henry on the
team already.
They think he's already there.
I would go with Cash, man.
Cash, I'm all for this type of offense.
I'm not saying we got to go to
the other legend, become Dan Campbell now,
when we're going for it every time in
the fourth quarter.
But to start off the games and to
try to set a tone you really want
to score, go for it.
I'm loving that.
And it's instilling confidence in Drake
May.
When you see he converts that fourth down,
now you know the offense is rolling.
The crowd is behind you.
I'm all for it.
Continue it.
Don't get too happy with it.
Don't get drunk like Dan Campbell does and
just forgets he has a kicker and just
continues to go for it and then it
bites you in the ass later into the
match.
So definitely straight cash.
Before we get out of here...
I want to talk about what we put
on record.
You know, just real quick,
Mike had the game being twenty seven to
seventeen.
He's out of me and Jet.
He's the one who had this being a
little more of an wide open game.
Jet had the game twenty four and twenty
with cousins throwing a pick six,
I believe.
And I had the game being thirty one
to twenty nine with having our guy
Baragalas hitting a game winner because,
you know,
The O-two, Vin and Terry.
None of that happened,
but Mike Nice was the closest,
so he gets the cash bucks for this
one.
We're going to try to keep score to
get the cash bucks.
So quickly, guys, twenty seconds.
What's a bold prediction?
Something out the norm that's going to
happen against the Jets this upcoming
week.
Tell you right now, I'm calling it.
A.J.
Brown is back.
A.J.
Brown will be in the lineup against the
Jets.
I know he's chomping at the bit,
ready to get back out there.
He says,
watch what the Patriots have done the last
couple of games,
and he wants to be a part of
that.
He's out on the field.
He's making plays.
He scores a touchdown.
A.J.
Brown returns and puts on a show against
the hated rival, New York Jets.
I like that.
What about you, Jett?
The game is closer than people think based
off of how the Patriots have been playing
and how the Jets look.
It's a division rivalry game.
They always play them tough.
You know,
Geno Smith is a competent enough
quarterback that I don't think he's going
to just straight up lose the game for
the Jets.
So I think people are riding high off
of beating Buffalo and Buffalo and then
just dismantling the Raiders.
I think it's going to come back down
to earth a little bit this week.
because the expectations are really high
that they'll just destroy the Jets like
they destroyed the Raiders last week.
So I think it's going to be a
little bit of a closer game.
And in terms of like an individual player,
I'm going to say Pop Douglas only has
two catches because he's not going to be
wide open in the end zone again.
So that's my prediction,
just two catches for Pop Douglas because
he's going to have coverage on him.
And I'm going to say if Christian Gonzalez
plays, he checks Garrett Wilson.
If Christian Gonzalez doesn't play,
Garrett Wilson is going to have a hundred
yards in the touchdown.
yeah my my angle is very similar to
yours with gonzo i believe gonzo plays and
he's going to be covering garrett wilson
so it's going to make things really hard
for gino gino hasn't thrown an
interception at all so far this season
which is really rare because what the hell
was you doing last year when i had
you on never mind gino smith throws two
interceptions
against the New England Patriots this
upcoming week.
One for a pick six, please.
One for a pick six will be real
nice.
Will be real nice.
But that's my prediction.
I think I agree with you, Jed.
This game will be a little closer to
start off.
All rivalry games are.
But we ended off with a pick six
like Mike asked for,
and we closed the match out.
This is straight cash.
Marvin is on your host.
We got jet stride.
We got Mike.
Nice fellas.
We'll do this again next week.
You guys could talk.
You don't have to, you know,
I don't have a good, like,
I don't have a good finger guns.
Oh man.
We'll keep working on it.
Y'all.
This is just week five by the,
by week, twelve, week, thirteen.
We'll have a better addict to have this
goals.
