'We need different political approach for new times'
Labour Party leader Ed Miliband has said that "One Nation Labour", the concept he outlined in his speech to the party conference yesterday, is neither Old Labour or New Labour and that "we do need a different political approach for new times".
He told Today presenter Evan Davis that the last Labour government "didn't do enough to demand responsibilities of those at the top... the banking system, the media, Rupert Murdoch, the energy companies".
He added that the government believes "there is a public economy and a private economy... They were wrong. That's why this is a country in recession" but refused to make any commitment on taxation or spending if he was to become prime minister.
And he described the government's decision to cancel the award of the West Coast Main Line franchise to FirstGroup as "hopeless, shambolic incompetence."
