Letby testified in May 2023, denied every charge, and told the jury she had never deliberately harmed a child. The handwritten notes found at her home were contested throughout: the prosecution highlighted I killed them on purpose, while the defense pointed to I haven't done anything wrong and repeated cries for help on the same pages.\n\nAfter the trial, it emerged that the notes had allegedly been written on a counselor's advice as a stress-management exercise. That context reportedly never reached the jury. The jury convicted on most counts but could not agree on six.
