The victim's own attorney didn't know the final plea until she walked into court. A tribal victim services advocate didn't know. The victim's mother — who had sobbed and begged the Assistant District Attorney months earlier not to take the deal — didn't know. The only people who knew were Butler's defense and the DA's office.\n\nNow a judge has to decide whether any of that violated Oklahoma's Marsy's Law — and whether the State of Oklahoma is compelled to change how it treats every future victim, or whether what happened in Payne County is simply what \"compliance\" looks like.\n\nButler's record clears in roughly one hundred and twenty days.
