Prosecutor Jennifer Sprague countered that Cavanaugh's notes never documented a single mention of any voice, and Cavanaugh conceded the point. The stakes of that exchange are structural: Clancy admits the acts, so the entire trial is her state of mind, and Massachusetts law requires the Commonwealth to prove her criminal responsibility beyond a reasonable doubt. The state's roughly seventy witnesses described a devoted nurse and mother. Its own phone evidence shows searches about hallucinations, psychosis, and postpartum psychosis symptoms before the killings — evidence Tony argues cuts directly against the theory that the voice was invented afterward.\n\nClosing arguments are expected the week of August 24, and deliberations will follow soon after.
