The prosecution spent seven days presenting forty witnesses and 107,000 text messages. The defense called no one.\n\nFlynn is charged with aggravated murder, two counts of felonious assault, and three counts of tampering with evidence in the shooting death of his wife Ashley Flynn on February 16, 2026, at their home in Miami County, Ohio. Flynn says a stranger broke in through the garage.\n\nThe prosecution built its case from text messages between Flynn and Alleigha Botner, who worked at the same church. The state’s digital analyst organized 107,000 messages into categories including “Kill Ashley, Ashley Dead/Gone, Rid of Ashley.” Ninety-five separate texts were cataloged under “About Hating Ashley.” On February 10, 2025, Flynn texted Botner: “I need her to die.”\n\nFlynn texted Botner what divorce would cost — his daughters, his salary, his home, and his position at the church. He told her repeatedly he was leaving Ashley. He never filed. By February 2026, Botner had planned a date with another man.\n\nIn September 2025, Botner researched permanent deletion of their message history across WhatsApp, Instagram, iCloud, and GroupMe. On February 14, 2026, Flynn texted: “I’m free. Shouldn’t text or leave any trails.” On February 15: “Actions will come tomorrow.” At 12:45 AM, February 16: “I choose you, Alleigha. Goodnight.” Ashley was found shot twice that morning.\n\nBotner’s first message after learning what happened: “Were you behind this?” Three GroupMe messages that followed were deleted.
