His role in Pike’s September 30 procedure is disputed in current reporting, so the confirmed issue is broader than one doctor: Tennessee entered Pike’s execution with a recent failed IV case already on the books.\n\nCarruthers’ sister later filed a complaint alleging that he suffered a stroke and partial paralysis after the May attempt. Pike’s attorneys say she was left unconscious and on a ventilator after the September attempt.
