Dr. Alex Santino, the medical director of Diabetes Control at Malakia Primary Health Care Centre, says the facility receives at least five new patients a week, making a total of not less than seventy patients every year. Diabetes is a disease in which the body’s ability to produce or respond to the hormone insulin is impaired, resulting in abnormal metabolism of carbohydrates and elevated levels of glucose in the blood.
