Why Nobody At D4vd's Label Ever Asked Her Age

A label. A management team. Two sheriff's departments. Every one of them had a piece of the picture, and prosecutors say the relationship at the center of it began when Celeste Rivas Hernandez was young enough that the number alone ends most conversations.

Long before the d4vd preliminary hearing, David Burke sat down for an interview and explained a character he had invented. He said he was writing a manga about a detective. The detective had an evil version of himself who showed up at random moments. That version committed murders. The detective then had to solve them.

He named the character Itami, which means pain in Japanese. He called him an agent of chaos and compared him to Tyler Durden in Fight Club.

Then he put him in the work. A bloody knife in one video. An animated sequence in another. A video before his debut album in which Burke drags a body and loads it into the trunk of a car.

Tony and Robin use that as the doorway into a bigger question: who was this young man before any of it? Homeschooled after seventh grade. Gospel music only until thirteen. A social life built entirely inside gaming lobbies. Signed to a major label at seventeen with a valuation in the millions and no anchor anywhere near him.

They also give the other argument its full weight. Violent art is not proof of violence, and treating lyrics as confessions is how innocent people get railroaded.

But prosecutors allege Burke did the specific thing his character was written to do, and a whole machine of executives and managers watched a nineteen-year-old sell his own darkness without anyone asking what was underneath it.

Burke has pleaded not guilty and denies all wrongdoing through his attorneys. Celeste Rivas Hernandez was fourteen years old.
